Usually when you have a Sci-Fi or Fantasy disease that doesn't exist in real life, it's far more severe and there's often no real-world cure often leading to a race against time to find a cure or do something extreme like an amputation to a zombie bite. But is there already a trope that covers fictional diseases?

The reason why I'm wondering is that I'm currently reading RJ Barker's "Tide Child" trilogy and the protagonist, Joron Twiner is afflicted by a disease called Keyshan's Rot. For him, the disease is causing his skin to break out in sores and will eventually go to his brain. This means he has to cover up increasingly more of his body in thick clothing and while the equivalent of the ship's doctor is giving him poultices to slow the progression, there's no cure other than to hope for a divine intervention.

The other name for a Keyshan or Arkeesian is dragon (the beast is an island-sized sea serpent) and that reminded me of Dragon's Rot from Sekiro. Which in turn had me thinking of a listing of SF-nal diseases similar to the listing in the Fantasy Metal tropes.

This is a question for Trope Finder.

For every low there is a high.
