I've always thought it was about works that conflate being gay with being trans (eg: A work saying that gay men like men because "they wish they were ladies", things like that)
Yeah. Basically that. I guess it's drawing from the idea that trans people are just gay people who took it a step further, so to speak. Waiting to be the "opposite gender" instead of just simply "being gay". It's a disgusting and nonsensical stereotype, but it's a stereotype all the same.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah, what said. It's essentially when a story misinterprets being Transgender as being the ultimate goal or final evolution of a gay person, when it's in actuality a separate concept. Most of the examples I've seen are legit, where it's something like a gay drag queen incorrectly assumed to be a trans woman.
It's not about the gold; it's about the glory.See, the name would make me think it's about trans people being assumed to be gay. All this stuff about "leveling up" and "taking it a step further" and the "ultimate goal" isn't implied by the name. But I'm not sure there's a clearer name that wouldn't be overly long and complicated.
Well, assuming what previous people said is accurate, probably what needs to happen is the description needs a rewrite to say what it means more clearly without the weird gaming language. And I'm going to go ahead and do a wick check later today.
Trans Equals Gay Wick Check results show about 63% correct use, including a couple of cases where it seems the example writer themselves didn't understand the difference. I've added it to the TRS Queue, suggesting a description rewrite and wick cleaning.

According to GastonRabbit neither of those things require TRS, only a trip to the Trope Description Improvement Drive and, if the misuse is significant enough, a Short-Term Projects thread. (In retrospect I probably could have brought that up as soon as the post above was made.)
The description and Laconic of Trans Equals Gay are both extremely vague: they both say it's where a trans person is perceived to be a homosexual person who "leveled up", but I don't understand what that actually means.
I've been considering doing a wick check on it to send it to TRS.
