Every single time I make a new page and try to index it, it simply does not work! I have followed ALL of the tips listed:

''How do I turn a page into an index page?: This is done with the page-type tool, which you can see on the sidebar under "Page Info". Just check the "does indexing" checkbox, hit the save button, and you're done. I added something to an index/turned a page into an index, but it's not working: First, always make a blank edit on the problematic index page. If that doesn't work, check that the link(s) you added are working links and that you've set the page type of the index correctly. This new page I made is on an index, but the index isn't showing up: An index is updated when it is edited — not automatically. Try editing and saving the index where the new page is or toggling the page type.''

I tried toggling the page type. Nothing. I tried doing a blank edit on the page itself. Still nothing! Why isn't there a comprehensive step-by-step guide with diagrams showing exactly how to index a page?? I run into this problem constantly, and it is extremely frustrating!! If indexing is required, why is it the single most infuriating thing to do on this site??

To index a page you have to edit the page you want it to be indexed on. For example, to index a page called Literature. Some Book on Literature of the 2010s, you would go to Literature of the 2010s and add

in the appropriate spot alphabetically.

How do I add something to an index?: Just find the index page and add the page you want to index as a bullet in the bulleted list on the index page. The page you want to index has to exist already, by the way - otherwise, you'll have to re-edit the index page for the page to display on the index. Please do not add subtropes as subbullets. Indexes should be sorted alphabetically.
Second bullet point on How Indexing Works, before the stuff you quoted.

Changing the page type is for the indices themselves, for the record. It won't necessarily help to change the type of the page you want to add to an index, and it might cause problems if you change the type of a page to something it's not.
