Revolver Revenant - Blue Building

Nazis.

At the sight of the Reich-themed robots, something bubbled up deep within the collective consciousness of Revolver Revenant. A fractured series of images, out of order, too primal and raw to form any kind of narrative - it was pure feeling.

Leather boots crunching in perfect unison against gravel, ten-hut, ten-hut, ten-hut. Friends vanishing overnight for speaking out against the Duce, for not being sufficiently adoring of the Duce, oftentimes just for being what they were... those who were killed quickly were the lucky ones. Endless fear, endless paranoia. Horror with a flimsy mask of jingoistic "glory". All tinted red with a century's worth of suppressed rage.

From an outsider's perspective, Giorgia would suddenly grunt, her head snapping back harshly, before standing back to attention, now with a tint of glowing blue to her blank eyes. In truth, what they had just witnessed was Giorgia Lanna being forced into the mental back seat. Paolo Terlizzi was in charge now, and his grudge against fascists - even an utterly ridiculous robotic parody thereof - was personal.

The first thing Paolo did once he was piloting the body was roll aside, taking cover behind a display of Ancient Greek pottery as laser fire scorched the floor. Weapons like these would melt through a simple museum plinth eventually, but a few seconds of cover was all he needed. Step two was, quickly assess how much death the relics in these halls had been exposed to in their time. Drawing power from objects that had been in the presence of death wasn't nearly as effective as drawing from the physical location of the death, but it often had to do, as it did now.

There was enough. Half-formed spirits, more vaguely human-shaped globs of light and smoke than true ghosts, came rushing from the relics and urns of the museum with an otherworldly wail. They came rushing into the faces of the Nazi-bots at blinding speed, letting out banshee-like screams, before vanishing as quickly as they came. Such weak spirits were insubstantial enough that they couldn't have truly harmed the bots if they tried - but they weren't trying. Paolo, now ducking out from behind cover, was using them as a distraction.

Paolo couldn't help but twirl the paired revolvers as he drew them from Giorgia's holster. His excuse, were he to be asked, was that he was getting used to Giorgia's hands. Paolo had not been a very delicate-fingered man in life, so it was true that the dainty hands of a scrawny young woman, trapped eternally just above high school age, had taken him a lot of getting used to. But really, he was just showing off a little bit. The other three always lambasted him as a showboat, even for tiny displays like this - they were trying to right now, though he couldn't hear over the overwhelming roar of his anti-fascist hatred and cared not to listen closer - and it never once stopped him.

The revolvers weren't spinning for long, and once they stopped, they stopped dead. With no working lungs, no blood pulsing through their veins, not a single sign of life they didn't force this functionally dead body to perform, Revolver Revenant's hand was unnaturally steady, which meant their aim was unnaturally precise. All Paolo had to do was point the barrels at whatever weakpoints he could see on the robots - ankles, eyes, gaps in their body armour, whatever a bullet could definitely harm - and...

Maxx - Yellow Building

Maxx had audibly scoffed upon hearing the shot-calling robot's poor imitation of an Italian accent. Was this seriously what he was going to have to be subjected to on his first real day on the job? Not only was this rude to his eardrums, but the smell of all that food being thrown around was rude to his growling stomach. Either way, though...

"I'll never back down from a challenge, even if it's just to stay sane while fighting you chromed caricatures!" Maxx quips defiantly, before taking a quick step back and shooting a jet of fire from his outstretched right hand to burn any pasta heading in his direction to a crisp.

Once that immediate threat is dealt with, Maxx rushes further into the building, creating flames to envelop any robots in his path and fry their internal components so they can't cause any more havoc. He's acutely aware that the two superheroes in here with him are wind- and ice-themed respectively, two elements that mix questionably with fire, and that he needs to be careful around the most likely very flammable museum exhibits stored here. The Phoenixcaller may not understand modern art, but he understands that it's worth a lot.

Red Building — From Russia With Love

Between sucker punches and fists of rocks, the robots were in a bad spot. Gilgamesh threw herself into the fray, keeping the nastier ones at bay. She could trust the others to take care of the rest. Gears and circuits littered the floor, quickly smashed to bits.

The gungslinger wasn't so successful. The leader's little LED's in their sockets glowed red, seeing through the cloud of smoke. They reared their sickle again, blade of energy shooting out, aiming clear for the gunslinger's neck.

"LET SEE HEAD ROLL, DA! ROLL ROLL! ROLL FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!"

Blue Building — Nazi Schmazi

There was smashing and blasting. Scores of robots opened fire only to be blown apart, dozens of parts and stray shots blasting through the walls. Thanks to Crimson's barriers the civilians were protected, but there was no telling how long that would last. A stray robot leaped towards Seymour over the deadly exchange, itching to stomp his head into paste.

But the leader was still at large. They raced towards the exit, the other robots drawing the hero's attention. They swiveled their torso, facing the heroes as they ran away, steadily chipping away at Giorgia's cover with bullet after bullet until it resembled swizz cheese. They were inches away from the exit, artifact in tow. If the heroes wanted to stop him, they needed to do it now.

Yellow Building — That's Amore

Everything happened at once. Windwing's shield of wind kept the civilians at harm, but he wasn't so lucky. A small pizza landed at his feet, exploding in a flash of cheese and pepperoni, wrapping around him with gooey goodness. Maxx's blasts of flame kept the other robots busy, burning them and their ridiculous ammunition to cinders, but it didn't help the other hero's situation.

A deathly chill slowed the pasta down, but wasn't enough to freeze it. Whatever this stuff was made of, it was resistant to cold. Their axed hacked the gooey tendrils away, but they were resilient, new tendrils and strands sprouting from the base. The leader pulled their other tendril away, curling around to form a shield, catching the axe as the pasta hardened.

"MUMBIA MIA! LUCKY THAT'A WORKED'A!"

They lashed out again, grabbing Tasha's axe with their other tendril, ready to cut her down to size.

The art thieves were caught red-handed. They looked back and forth, standing like a pair of deer in headlights. Their internal processes began to whir, wracking their circuits as they searched for a way out.

"AN EXCELLENT QUESTION THAT IS. WHERE IS IT WE ARE GOING? WHERE IS IT ANY OF US ARE GOING? DO ANY OF US KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING? THIS IS A PHILOSOPHICAL INQUIRY. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS SERIOUS AND SINCERE STATEMENT LITERALLY."

Overtaker - Red Building

Overtaker could see the rest of her group fighting, and based on what they were doing, she figured they didn't have powers suited to getting the injured out of the museum either. So when the robots she punched didn't get back up, she'd kick them so they'd be in front of the injured, so they would at least be shielded from the battle and would be able to get out to safety without any of the robots going after them.

However, Overtaker could see that Gunslinger was having a harder time taking down the robot leader, and that they seemed to be focused on him. She knew that she needed to do something, and when she looked the artifact clutched in the leader's tentacle, she had an idea.

"I'm gonna help Gunslinger!" Overtaker shouted to Cobblestone and Gilgamesh as she crouched down and leaned towards the leader. "Think just the two of you can handle the rest of these things?"

Seymour Greene, Blue Building

"Oh no ya don't!"

Seymour picked up the robot he managed to get his hands on, then hurled the very unfortunate mook directly towards the leader robot.

He didn't quite notice the robot going straight for him, however, and initially got suprised by the attack, but kept standing.

"Heh, it'll take a lot more than just one of you buckets o' bolts to take down the Verdant Whip!"

Tasha, Yellow Building

Fucking pasta. Of all the things to stop her axe, hardened wheat was perhaps the most absurd she could think of.

Growling, Tasha dropped her other axe, letting the pasta claim it, before raising both her hands, palms forward. In one hand a wall of ice bloomed, forming a spiked tower shield with which to block the incoming tendrils. The other hand she pointed at the axe she had thrown. The axe made of ice, which she could freely manipulate.

That axe suddenly flew backwards, into her waiting paw. She caught it with ease, before swinging it down to strike the floor. Frost exploded out from the strike, stretching across the ground towards the feet of the pasta-man.

If it touched him, it would spread up his legs and freeze his lower body to the ground.

Windwing (Yellow Building)

"Aaaaaaaah!" Windwing's arms only stopped pinwheeling because he was suddenly wrapped in cheese. Suddenly unable to balance, he ended up pitching forward and landing flat on his face.

"Uh—guys? Little help here?!"

This was going to take forever to wash out...

Cobblestone-(Red Building)

She grinned hugely, holding her arms wide to grasp and crush any robots that got close. "Oh, I think we'll be fine." Cobblestone's voice echoed weirdly, with a slightly rough edge that sounded inhuman, but still full of the joy of fighting. The huge stone figure leaped forward, aiming a kick at one of her opponents, and hurling a piece of floor at another. Her goal was to keep as much attention focused on herself as possible in order to let Overtaker do..whatever they were planning. Hopefully, it would be successful. if not...well, they'd come up with a new plan. That's how this job worked, right?

Overtaker - Red Building

"Alright, better make this count," Overtaker said to herself, as she took a deep breath. Then, she made a kinetic energy-boosted leap towards the Soviet robot commander's tentacle holding the stolen artifact. If there was one thing that was sure to draw this thing's attention away from Gunslinger, it was having their prize getting snatched away. As she got closer and closer to the commander, Overtaker reached out, hoping to grab the artifact as she passed by.

Night Chaser gave them a deadpan look, the chain in his arm starting to shake, a second away from shooting forward.

"Leaving the wannabe Plato stuff aside" He said "Just surrender now and avoid things getting ugly"

Taking a step forward, he looked at the painting. Odd that they focus on a single painting while wrecking the whole place.

"What do you even have there?" He asked, approaching step by step "If this is your idea of criticizing art, you are crazier than Chef Stupido already made you look"'

Maxx - Yellow Building

Maxx was pretty in the zone right then, having found a good rhythm to roasting robots. This meant that Windwing's anguished cries fell on deaf ears at first, but the Phoenixcaller quickly realised his teammate could be in serious trouble.

Maxx turned around and rushed back to where Windwing and Tasha were, which was when he noticed the cheesy mess binding the former's legs. "How did you let this happen to you?" Maxx asked in a surprised tone as he knelt down and got to work; trying to pull the cheese from Windwing's legs whilst heating it up with his fire, all whilst his internal dialogue debated the pros and cons of eating food off of another man's legs.

Gunslinger dropped to the ground, sliding as he did so. "Okay, that could have worked better!"

He drew his revolver and aimed for the legs... but another idea hit him, they could see through the smoke. He pumped his left arm, ejecting the smoke shell, he felt the grind of the gears as they loaded a stun grenade.

He aimed right at the center of the smoke cloud, and fired, a timed flashbang ready to go off and deafen the room with light and sound.

Gunslinger couldn't resist. "Hey, dasvidaniya, comrade."

Revolver Revenant - Blue Building

Of course the leader flees the moment someone in the museum puts up a fight. A coward, just like any real fascist. Paolo has to give whoever built these foul machines points for their trueness to life, if not for anything else.

Revolver Revenant's tactics were never complex. If distracting the target with spooky ghosts and shooting in their direction doesn't work, just keep firing until they're finally downed. And if even that doesn't work? Pursue them, even more bullets on hand, ready to use. This time is no different. The leader, the priority target, is still active, so Paolo makes a quick dash for cover behind one of the less mutilated museum plinths before aiming two quick, unnaturally steady-handed shots at whatever exposed movement joints or other vitals he can see.

Ryan entered the building roughly in good enough time to see a young woman, having fallen down right in front of a robot - standing poised to crush her beneath its mighty fist. Ryan went right ahead and decided to see whether its fist or his was heavier - and when he sent the robot careening into a nearby wall amid a thundering blast of energy from his clenched fist, it was pretty clear what the result was.

"Get yourself to safety! I'll handle things here!" Ryan urged her on to go run to safety. The young woman - a blonde young college coed from nearby - found herself looking at Ryan for a moment as she saw just how many robots there were here. And just how many of them were going to turn their attention to Ryan.

The young woman ran from the location, hearing the sounds of Ryan blasting something with a sphere of force from his hand as he defended her retreat. Gracie Flynn was not going to forget Ryan Brady any time soon.

Ryan meanwhile turned his attention to the rest of the robots.

Poised between them and advancement elsewhere, toward the civilians currently making their exit from the area.

Red Building

As the battle raged on, the heroes got busy. As soon as they saw their moment the gunslinger went all in. The leader screamed, optics going haywire. They loosened their grip, flinging the artefact into the air it hollered and yelped. Overtaker saw their chance. As soon as the moment came, they snatched the artefact, holding it in their hands. If the husky ruskie wasn't so infuriated, perhaps they would have cared. The others chipped away at the robot hordes, wearing and tearing, crushing them with their fists. Just a little longer and they'd have this in the bag.

Blue Building

The chaos in the blue building was of a similar nature. The robots fought on, guns blazing, but it was all they could do to hold their own. If the leader wasn't so focused on escaping perhaps they could have done a better job, but it wasn't to be. They turned around, stamping their foot, aiming their pistol at the relevant with their laserscope... but it was too late. Two bullets, one for each ankle; both struck true. The robot fell to its knees, cursing the gunslinger even as they unloaded.

Yellow Building

Everything happened at once. With one fuzzy paw Tasha blocked the tendrils with ease, freezing their feet to the ground. Their words became garbled, a muffled mass of obscure obscenities. They made one last attack, lashing out with their tendrils, but it was clearly out of desperation.

The other robots fared little better. They kept up the assault, bruising and scorching whoever they could, but it wasn't enough. Ryan led the charge, keeping the bots at bay, but they weren't about to give up. The robots holding the artefact stopped cold, wracking their brains they as looked towards the exit.

"QUERY. IS CRAZINESS NOT IN THE EYE OF BEHOLDER? IS THE BEHOLDER NOT IN THE EYE OF CRAZINESS? IS ONE FLESHBAG's CRAZINESS NOT ANOTHER FLESHBAG'S TREASURE?"

Windwing (Yellow Building)

"Uh—wasn't expecting it, sorry about that!" Windwing said sheepishly as Phoenixcaller pulled away the cheese from his legs. Once he was free, he clambered to his feet, stumbling a little before regaining his footing, and smiled at his teammate. "Thanks for that!"

Now for the robots! Windwing held out a hand and swept it upwards, sending a gust of wind straight up where the robots were standing. The goal was either to knock them off their feet or knock the artifact out of their hands...with any luck.

Overtaker - Red Building

"Got it!" Overtaker cried out to the others as she managed to grab the artifact, then completed her leap, skidding across the floor to minimize the impact on her prize, whatever it might be. And with its safety all but ensured, she wouldn't have to hold back against the robot commander.

Overtaker ran over to the closest downed robot that was still largely intact. While it wasn't going to be moving, it still had plenty of electrical energy to tap from its power source. With her free hand, Overtaker placed her palm onto it, and began to drain electricity out of it and into her body.

"Hey, Iron Curtain Man!" Overtaker yelled at the commander in a mocking tone. "Your programmer not get around to fixing the Y2K bug in you or something?" She held up her free fist, now glowing and crackling with electricity. "Anyways, your comrade didn't seem to be using this, so I figured you'd want it!"

On those last three words, Overtaker held out her arm and unleashed all the electricity she had absorbed, sending a massive blast towards the red robot commander.

Tasha, Yellow Building

"Got you." She grinned, a savage thing that bared her teeth.

Tasha rose and gestured, and her second axe was yanked back from where it fought the tendrils, falling into her free hand. Then she swung it, sending her ice shield rushing forward to push back against the tendrils, serving as a bulwark to protect the others while they thinned the horde.

While Windwing and the others focused on the machines and the artifact, Tasha continued battling the tendrils. All the while, her ice crept further up the leader's body. Perhaps if his hands were frozen, he'd be unable to launch his tendrils out.

"Surrender," She called out, "Or you'll go to prison an ice pop instead of a man."

Seymour made a toothy grin on seeing both the gunslinger's bullets hitting their mark, as well as his own thrown mook hitting the leader. Now to do a bit of cleanup, and to keep up the offensive. Seymour crouched down, getting suprisingly low for his size, then quickly grabbed hold of a nearby robot's legs. Afterwards, Seymour stood back up and spun around with the robot, before throwing said robot at the leader a second time.

"So long, eh, robot!"

The giant stone hero was having the time of her life. Smashing robots? letting out the itch to fight that had been building all day? Paradise. She picked up another 'bot and flung it at the wall. Ha! This was amazing! Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the other hero...whatisname, Overtaker?,....making a move on the object that the robots had tried to steal. Nice idea! Maybe I should do more too. As the electrical blast whizzed toward the commander, she picked up the nearest disabled robot and chucked it at him as well. Hopefully, it would provide a distraction at least.

Maxx - Yellow Building

Maxx looks on with a mildly uncomfortable expression on his face as Windwing gets to his feet and thanks him. "Don't... mention it?":

Maxx's expression changes to one of consideration when he turns to face the group of robots holding the artifact. It'll be pretty demanding, but... if anyone can pull it off, the Phoenixcaller can. Right?

Without further hesitation, Maxx releases a pair of rolling waves of flame from both of his hands, aiming to overheat the robots to either side of the one bearing the artifact. Windwing's updraft, however, causes the fire to get quite unpredictable, quickly growing tall and licking the air whilst threatening to incinerate the artifact along with each and every robot in the group. Seeing this, Maxx's response is to gesture as if pushing something down whilst a strained expression crosses his face; the fire calms down, even in Windwing's wind, but it's clear that it's taking all of Maxx's focus to keep it burning thieving robots and not priceless artifacts.

Revolver Revenant - Blue Building

And that was that. The target was down, their prize ripe for the taking. There was only one thing left to do.

Once he was sure Seymour had the remaining mooks distracted, Paolo ducked out of cover and made his way quickly over to the prone Nazi-bot leader. There was no subsequent grand speech rubbing in his victory, no fancy twirl of his guns before he dealt the finishing blow. One bullet, then another, BANG BANG, straight into the Cranial Processing Unit. An execution as quick and ruthless as a Nazi deserved.

His mission complete, Paolo reneged control of the body to Giorgia. Once again, she briefly grunted and violently twitched her head, only this time the blue light in her eyes went out to leave them blank once more.

...never do that again.

I do try not to. But sometimes my emotions get the better of me, I'm afraid.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty cool! Who doesn't love beating the shit outta Nazis?

With a grim sigh that was barely audible through her mask, Giorgia turned her attention from the voices in her head to the object right in front of her. Whatever this package was, there must have been some reason the fash-bots were so determined to escape with it in tow. Grabbing it and trying to lift it, Giorgia would, if it was light enough for an undead human to lift, hoist the package up to chest-height and hold it up to her body as she tentatively crossed the room towards the exit. The intent was simple - if any remaining mooks wanted to take a shot at her, they'd have to go through whatever they came here for.

Ryan

"I did not come here to fucking argue semantic shit with a bunch of bots!"

He promptly tried to blast through the robots blocking the way to their leader, deciding that if they were willing to put themselves between him and that one - then whatever it was they were trying to acquire must be something totally important. And in a snap decision he fired a sphere of radioactive explosive force at the lead robot.

Ryan was glad that the girl had gotten outta there. She was pretty cute not gonna lie. He kinda hoped that he might get to see her again. Was there procedure against heroes gettin' with the babes they rescue?

As Ryan punched through another of the robots trying to carve a path to their leader, he admitted that this was...curiously off for their first outing. The machines seemed more like just bodies in the path rather than outright threats.
