Engineer & mod discussion thread

I'm going to need a second opinion on a rejected video, "Poo Poo Song". I rejected it for being a 1 second clip that ends abruptly, which I found very jarring and annoying to watch and hear. The uploader is disputing this on the grounds that "being jarring" is subjective, so to settle it I need more opinions.

I suppose it might work if the elephant bit were cut off.

Me asking for that was what led to the whole back and forth.

to the singing poo, that's more of a GIF than a video example.

The poo will stay rejected, then.

Notes for today:

• When Worlds Collide: Seems to be an example, but does it go on for too long with the song? The song seems to distract from the actual trope. I already rejected one example from this episode for going on too long with irrelevant footage.
• Bowser Becomes Castle Bowser: Can Fusion Dance apply to a character and an object?
• Instigating Laser Musket: Can this YMMV trope have videos? And is the video illustrative enough?
• Mirai Star: The 7:32 in the corner is distracting and is it clear enough that it's an alternate theme?
• The Lost One and A New World: Is that a watermark? It may be a bug; it's just hard to tell for sure.

• When Worlds Collide — , I'm struggling to see how it fits with either trope it's listed for.
• Bowser Becomes Castle Bowser — , that's not Fusion Dance...there should be another trope that fits it, but that's not it.
• Instigating Laser Musket — , not illustrative enough to me
• Mirai Star — I think it's clear enough that it's an alternative theme, but the timestamp is a little distracting...could go either way on this one.
• The Lost One and A New World — It's for this YouTube channel. I'm not sure how YT creator names/logos put onto videos works in terms of whether it's a bug or watermark.

EDIT: We discussed in mod chat and agreed that in this case, that's a bug and is acceptable.

Alright, cool

OK, got it. CV threads pending an unlock for almost two weeks and having fairly straightworawd OP made me question if they should just get a start, but I'm not going to unlock them then. TRS is often opened right away, but I guess we could go ahead if one's waiting and there are no issues.

Fair point. I'll flag it and see if we can get some those pending CV ones opened, or declined with reasons if not.

I'd imagine that the auto-hollers were overlooked because other things were going on at the time.

Video stuff:

• Epsilon Fights Against Nature: Is this too NSFW, what with the boobs and the butt?
• Shinochi Can't Help It: This one seems a little tamer, but still feels a bit... much?
• Larcade's Pleasure: This one too feels rather iffy. Same troper as the last two, btw.
• Catch Your Virginity: Another one with very similar issues.

Rejected those, as well as others that seemed too over the line. What about Natsuki's Ordeal? It's mostly tame, but those few seconds toward the end...

I think that one can be approved; if you're referring to that character laughing at the end, I don't think that hurts anything.

Oh, I didn't catch that...hmmmm. It's toeing the line, but I think it's brief enough that it can pass muster.

Anyway, this brings up a question I wanted to ask. What is the actual etiquette for mods and engineers to upload videos? If I uploaded some, would I have to have one of you guys approve them to make it fair?

Thanks I suspected that would be done, but I figured I'd cover my bases...and I just saw that I could do it myself so that's done.

I tend to be of the mindset that if one of us submits something that needs approval, someone else should approve it. That maintains neutrality and gives a degree of peer review...for instance, if I'd gone ahead and just approved my video I submitted without looking at it to see how it turned out, I'd've likely missed the error I made.

Yeah, that's what I figured because it seemed too cheap to just approve my own videos. I was just concerned about adding to the backlog but I rarely upload anyway

Since I can now create crowners, how do approach making a crowner for Short Term projects. Because a couple months back, I have been wondering about how mark attack names for the Trails Series since three tropers have different ways on how to mark them (in quote marked, not marked at all, and italicized), with me deciding to leave them unmarked after exchanging dms with one of them, asking on two ATTs and playing Reverie and seeing them unmarked in dialogue. So I want to find some way to make it consistent on that page and try and avoid edit wars.

I'd want some feedback on this, but off the top of my head, I'd say create the crowner with the link to the work, put something like "How should attack names be formatted?" in the information field, hook it, and then put each of the formats as options.

A question about editing locked pages: what's the policy for mods/engineers when it comes to making our own edits to those pages (e.g. fixing grammar and formatting, adding examples, alphabetizing)? Do you post it on the edit request thread and wait for another mod/engineer to make the edit for you, or are you allowed to do it yourself? I don't want to accidentally abuse the privileges.

Also, I'm not sure where the tools for making crowners, moving pages, etc. are? Someone requested for a page move for earlier, and I ended up moving them manually, so I'm not sure if that was done correctly.
