- Consensus was to turn The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others into an index and rename the page to Odd Last Item Index. Move the page (after rewriting if necessary), and either move examples to a more fitting trope, or remove examples that don't fit anywhere else.
Third time's the charm, right?
So, last time, the trope was made In-Universe Examples Only and, to ensure there is a slot opened up for another TRS effort, a short-term project was made. Not only did the ST project not get that much steam (last post as of this OP being queued up was in March '22), such a practice is a bit lazy in hindsight. Did the IUEO violations stop? According to The Last Of These Wick Checks, nope! Out of 56 wicks checked (avoiding those checked previously to ensure the check is fresh):
- Correct non-redundant: 4/56 = 7.1%
- Correct in spirit: 1/56 = 1.8%
- Correct but redundant: 13/56 = 23.2%
- Likely not in-universe: 22/56 = 39.3%
- Other misuse: 14/56 = 25%
- ZCE: 2/56 = 3.6%
For my proposal, I suggest disambiguating while making a supertrope. One name idea is Spoken List Ending Oddity. If we prefer an index idea over a supertrope due to the amount of wicks that fit other tropes, maybe Odd Finisher Index will work instead.
Wick check:
A wick check for The Last Of These Is Not Like The OthersThe issue: The trope was made In-Universe Examples Only after being brought to TRS a second time. First thread. The cleanup thread in short term has been on-and-off, last post March 1, 2022.
As misuse has not stopped, this will see if more extensive measures are to be done.
Wicks not to check

Now for this check. Progress: 56/56
- Anime.Onipan: From the first episode's opening monologue:
Narrator: "To improve the image of the oni among humanity, these three girls left Onigashima in a tale of love, friendship, and underwear."
- HIMYM.Tropes Season Nine: Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: In "Rally", Ted tries to deny Marshall's claim that Ted's mom lied to him about being allergic to bacon.
I'm allergic to a lot of stuff. Bacon, donuts...Halloween candy...not saying, "Thank you"...Oh my God! That bitch lied to me!
- Manga.Asteroid In Love: During the tenth episode, Yuu suggests that meteorology is more useful than astronomy or geology. Chikage rebuts that geology helps predict earthquakes and aids in mining... and "some stones have the power to make people feel happier and more at peace."
- Recap.Animaniacs Episode 2 (The Stinger): (following the other two introducing themselves normally) Dot: And I'm cute!
- VideoGame.Kickle Cubicle: Toy Land, the final world, doesn't fit with the Edible Theme Naming of the preceding three worlds.
- Creator.Mediocre Films: In the Moviefone Prank Call video, Greg imitating an automated Moviefone voice says this: Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
Greg: For movies about baseball or dinosaurs, press one. For movies about children or aliens, press two. For movies about the declining civilization of native African tribes, press three.
- Franchise.Love Live: Kasumi loves bread; one of her ALL STARS cards depicts her holding bags full of bread, she bakes bread as a hobby and uses some of them to prank the other members. If in-universe, it overlaps with Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Funny.Arthur: Brain: That's the castle, and those are the serfs, and there's the village where false beliefs are taking hold! Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Funny.Sonic Forces: Sonic then proceeds to ask what Infinite's favorite color is, if he likes romantic strolls on the beach, and what the secret of his power is Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Funny.Team Four Star Nuzlocke Playthroughs: A preview for what's coming up opens where the Mewtwo video left off as a shirtless Kirran leaves the recording room only to be confronted by Lani. After ordering him to put on a shirt (which Kirran does between shots), Lani slaps Kirran silly for nearly killing Sandrew, putting him in the Trash, and doing a good job. Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving
- HonestTrailers.Tropes A To D (re:Aerith and Bob): The Lord of the Rings has "characters with names so complicated, only a linguist could remember them, like: [various characters address each other] Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo, Sauron, Saruman, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, Boromir, Faramir, Éowyn, Arwen, Gimli, son of Glóin, ISILDUR, Morgoth, Galadriel, Galas Galathan, Théodred, GrÃÂma Wormtongue, Legolas, son of Thranduil ... Sam." Odd Name Out
- Literature.Spy School: When The Hale's are describing how Leo Shang is trying to destroy something in the Rocky Mountains. Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking
Cyrus: The U.S. government has dozens of extremely critical facilities there: The headquarters for the North American Aerospace Defense, Strategic Missile Command, the Air Force Academy...Alexander: The Central Food and Seed Reserve.Cyrus frowned disdainfully at this, but he didn't discount it either.
- Recap.Film Reroll Iron Man 3: Goonies proceeds on apace! Scott pushes some buttons! Joz runs from a librarian! Andy goes to prison! Jon communes with technology! [Kara] shoots a president! Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Recap.Ted Lasso S 3 E 05 Signs: Shandy, still angry about Keeley reprimanding her for changing Bantr's tagline, begins causing problems for Keeley at work. After Shandy causes KJPR to lose a client, Keeley fires Shandy, who retaliates by announcing her plan to start her own rival PR firm, attempting to poach Keeley's employees, and letting a lamb crap all over the conference room. Jack and Keeley are forced to miss the Richmond match in order to take care of the lamb situation.Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Recap. The Nostalgia Critic S 2 E 45: At the start of the review, Critic asks what is the first thing that the audience thinks on the word "critic". First one is Nostalgia Critic himself, second is The Angry Video Game Nerd and last one is a half-naked violinist running down a street.Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Ride.Transformers The Ride: When Wheelie comes to Morshower with important information:
Wheelie: Okay, a couple of things: I'm running low on the WD-40, and the mattress in my barracks is a little squishy, also I was thinking about taking a couple of months sick leave, maybe starting today...oh, and I intercepted a transmission from Megatron. Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving
- Theatre. The Most Happy Fella: In the opening scene, Cleo describes what her customer left on her table: Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving
"Seven million crumbs and a gravy spot,
Teaspoon stuck in the mustard pot,
Napkin on the floor,
Ashes in the cup
And—one Canadian dime!" - WesternAnimation.Bobs Burgers (re: Does This Remind You of Anything?) In "Lobsterfest", the kids act like the titular celebration is a religious holiday, with Louise trying to skip class by claiming her family doesn't observe it. Later they describe what they want Their First Time eating lobster to be like, with Tina planning to save lobster for her wedding, Gene hoping to eat lobster in a hot tub, and Louise wanting to order lobster as her last meal on the electric chair, then use it to stab the executioner's eyes out and escape. When they wind up eating lobster later that episode, Louise tells Tina to pretend at her wedding that it's her first time. Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick
- Chainmail Bikini: The main site has an item called Very Protective Fantasy Armor. It's... not very protective. The item poses available are "Panties", "Bra", "Hand Plates", "Foot Plates" and "Headpiece".
- Occidental Otaku: Lindy Harlaown from Lyrical Nanoha, although she's more foreign than most examples. She drinks green tea (incorrectly), has a room on her ship set up to look like a Japanese garden (complete with shishi-odoshi), and is aware of Magical Girl Anime. The second movie ramps it up when she's shown to own a paper lantern, a tengu mask, a sai, a teapot, and a log with shuriken embedded in it. She even moves to Japan full-time after the events of the second season, although that was mainly so her newly adopted daughter could stay with her friends.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Played for Laughs in The Angry Video Game Nerd's review of Power Rangers video games. The episode has a parody of the show's opening theme, and introduces five nerds who combine to form the man himself: the Angry Nintendo Nerd, Atari Nerd, Sega Nerd, Playstation Nerd, and Tiger Electronic Wristwatch Game Nerd. The disgusted glare he gets from Nintendo Nerd and his own fading smile make it pretty clear the rest don't like him and he knows it.
- ComicBook.Magic Boom (re: Token Trio): The first main trio is composed of a black woman, a gay man and a gorgon.
- DarthWiki. The Apostles (description): They are given covers based on the names of different apostles, the young man dubbed "John," and soon begin their lives of fast cars, beautiful women, exotic locations and cold-blooded murder.
- Fanfic.Shin Persona Evangelion: Beach Episode: Occurs during the summer vacation arc, specifically at Japan's Cape Irago. There's scenic views, sand castles, beach volleyball, and baffled approbation of Mana's abdominal muscles.
- HilariousInHindsight. The DCU: In The Multiversity, one of the Earths described in The Multiversity Guidebook was Earth-44, which is home to composites of the Metal Men and the Justice League. Created by Doc Tornado (Doc Magnus plus Red Tornado), the team consists of Gold Superman, Iron Batman, Platinum Wonder Woman, Lead Green Arrow, Mercury Flash, Tin Elongated Man, and Nth Metal Hawkman. In 2019, a twelve-issue Metal Man maxi-series was announced, featuring a new Metal Man made of Nth metal.
- Music.Johann Sebastian Bach (re: Author Appeal): Bach's devout Lutheran faith clearly inspires his cantatas, chorales, and service music. He was also a master of counterpoint, which can be found in virtually all of his compositions even though it was falling out of fashion in his day for the more spare Early Classical style. And his fondness for drinking coffee inspired the humorous "Coffee Cantata," Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht.
- Music. Two PM (re: Animal Motifs): Chansung – Banana (Channana)
- Radio.Hello Cheeky (re:Accidental Misnaming): In a stranger example, the gang would sometimes refer to each other casually, using names or nicknames that weren't theirs — for example "Vera", "Babs", "darling" and "George".
- Recap.Miraculous Ladybug S 02 E 19 Sandboy (re: "What Do They Fear?" Episode): And... Marinette's father's fear is that his bread will come to life to eat him.
- Series.Dirty Money (in description): And a Canadian maple syrup heist (yes, seriously).
- Series.White Rabbit Project (re: Shout-Out): The Six Million Dollar Man sketch in "Where's My Hoverboard?" contains several besides itself, via the numbers ticking by in corner of the screen: 3.14 is pi, followed by 1701, 1138, 0042, and eight-zero-zero-eight-English five.
- TabletopGame.Hollow Earth Expedition:
- Bad Powers, Good People: Necromancy itself is very ambigious: it starts out relatively harmless, but then goes through things like curses, causing harm or even summoning an Eldritch Abomination.
- The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others: Necromancy includes things like Talking to the Dead, casting curses, draining life force, Animate Dead... and summoning Eldritch Abominations of all shapes and sizes.
- TrademarkFavoriteFood.Video Games: Slime Rancher bunch of slime species named "[Adjective] Slime" then the last subbullet is The Tarr: Ranchers
- VideoGame.Pokemon Scarlet And Violet: It's Up to You: Ultimately, most changes that occur during the story are the responsibility of the new kid in school (your character). You beat the gym leaders and become Nemona's Worthy Opponent, you help take down the titans [and help Arven heal his Mabosstiff], you defeat the likes of Team Star [and help Clavell reveal the truth behind their "evil"], and, most importantly, [you defeat an entire security system protecting an extremely dangerous time machine and the beasts spawned from it.]
- VideoGame.Splatoon 3 (description): Oh, and Team Chaos won the final Splatfest.
- VideoGame.Tribes: You start with the multi-purpose light class, the Pathfinder, the Multipurpose medium class, the Soldier, and the.........offensively-focused heavy class, the Juggernaut instead of the multipurpose CQC expert, the Brute.
- WebAnimation.Meta Runner (re: Freeze-Frame Bonus): In Episode 6 of the Final Season, Sheridan briefly displays several achievements that have call-backs, a fourth-wall break, and disturbing implications as to what happens to players when they die in the server.
- WebVideo.Internet Historian: Stop Being Stereotypical: The belief in the Rapture espoused by Harold Camping in "Going Camping at the End of the World" is not an universal one in Christianity with mainstream denominations like Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, several Protestants and Quakers pointing out that trying to decipher when it happens goes against the scriptures. In fact, some Catholics and Protestant groups mobilized to protest against this campaign. Unfortunately, it had little effect as Camping had denounced mainstream churches as corrupt anyways and he persisted on his folly.
- WebVideo.Map Men: The "Maps with Gaps" episode showcases three examples where map makers didn't bother to fill in the details of areas of a map. The first three, West Berlin as shown on East German maps, a road atlas "showcasing" Paris, and North Korea as seen on Google Maps (until data was added starting in 2013) are all legitimate examples. A map of Greenland is also ridiculed, until Jay realises it's not an example; Greenland's low population density and concentration of population near the coasts necessitates a mostly-blank map.
- WesternAnimation.Night Hood: Corrupt Corporate Executive: H.R. Karst. Arms dealing, industrial espionage (and sabotage), kidnappings, false-flag operations to incriminate others, tax evasion... you name it.
- Awesome.Adventure Time: Gumbald assembling several antagonists from the past to fight for him in what he dubs The Gum War. Also Ice King's there.
- Characters.Fire Emblem Heroes Muspell: The other Ninja units focus on Speed and Attack but have terrible Defense, making them all Glass Cannons that can One-Hit KO almost any enemy, but are sitting ducks if they are out in the open on the enemy phase. Ninja Laevatein is a Brave weapon unit and trades Speed for Defense; while not as good at one-shotting opponents, she isn't going down in one hit.
- Characters.Kirby Beast Pack: The only Beast Pack mini-boss who isn't a feral version of Kirby's enemies from Popstar, rather being a follower of the Beast Pack right from the start.
- Characters.Pizza Tower: Unlike the rest of the monsters, the Pineapple Monster has nothing in his design that makes him look like a pineapple, and simply looks like a guy with orange skin and green hair dressed up like Elvis, but wearing the same cool sunglasses that the Pineapple Toppin wears as well. He also can't jumpscare Peppino since he teleports around and fires pineapples at him instead of chasing him. His unused jumpscare sprite also doesn't have him menacing or trying to scare Peppino, and instead gives him a friendly smile and a pair of Finger Guns as if he were just saying hello to him. Finally, before he is encountered, the level hides his presence and only shows the other four (though judging by the fact that they're based off the Toppins, you can infer he'll show up at some point).
- Characters.Smite Roman Pantheon: Nox and most of her children have a lot of clear visual similarities in their design - Thanatos makes heavy use of black and purple, and appears to be wearing a mask. Nox herself uses similar colors and swaps out the mask for just having her eyes covered. Nemesis also has covered eyes and makes use of purple, but trades black for white. Discordia...is just purple. As the odd one out, she has no mask or covered eyes anything. Well, what better way for her to be discordant than to look very different from her own family?
- Characters.Survivor Thailand: Shii Ann is currently the first and the only player from Thailand to return for a second season. Realistically, Shii Ann will also likely be the only person to have ever returned from this season. Also violates Examples Are Not Recent
- Characters.Vs Mouse: Ignoring the fact that he's a Guest Fighter, Juko is a human rather than a variation of Mickey Mouse.
- Cyberpunk2077.Tropes A To B: There's no single place in Night City where V can go to obtain illegal merchandise, but a lot of items (top-tier combat cyberware in particular, but also pineapple pizza) have Flavor Text that all but confirms their illegality. In short, almost any ripperdoc in the city is a black market dealer. Some quests also tangle with a specialized black market selling truly depraved braindances.
- Fanfic. The Broken House: An example that's not the last thing introduced. Taking into account her siblings, Luan cutting her arms feels pretty out of place. At least the other siblings have some sort of explanation related to their problems: Lori is a bounty hunter to support herself and her child, Lana acts like a dog because she was abandoned and raised by dogs before she was found, etc, but Luan? She cuts her arms because she needs to make everybody laugh. What? Very upfront about the shoehorn there
- Film.Us: And Red is the color of blood. [The fact that Adelaide has a less esoterically named Tethered than the rest of her family — or the rest of the Tethered altogether — may be a hint at The Reveal.]
- MiracleRally.Real Life: The NC State basketball team that won the 1983 NCAA men's championship was nicknamed "The Cardiac Pack" because they staged a miracle rally with a last-second score almost every single game. They won their nine tournament games by the following margins: 1, 7note , 3, 2note , 1, 19, 1, 7, and 2. That's an average margin of victory of fewer than five points. Not the last item
- TabletopGame. The Yellow King: The name of the Turkish vampire model is Laiot&# 259;, which departs from the convention and is not that of a legendary vampire (like those of other countries), but instead the leader whose forces slew Vlad the Impaler.
- VideoGame.Baba Is You: The overworld has ten worlds and ten large flowers to obtain. However, there are actually twelve flowers total. Where are the last flowers? [One is in the ABC world, accessed from the ??? world as opposed to the main overworld. The other is in the Center world, accessed by beating Meta-15, The Box.]
- WesternAnimation.Underdog: Before testing the Tickle Feather machine on Cad, Simon tests four other inventions on him to see what condition could prevent people from voting. The fourth invention tested, a large machine with robotic arms, is the only one that's not a gun.
- Film.Bad Black: During Kenny's shootout, VJ Emmie compares him to Rambo, Arnold Schwarzenegger... and Bill Murray. No explanation given re: Murray
- Podcast. The Old Oilhouse: Adam frequently starts the show like this.
Tally:
- Correct non-redundant: 4/56 = 7.1%
- Correct in spirit: 1/56 = 1.8%
- Correct but redundant: 13/56 = 23.2%
- Likely not in-universe: 22/56 = 39.3%
- Other misuse: 14/56 = 25%
- ZCE: 2/56 = 3.6%

Posting this comment to make public that I voted in favor of Odd Last Item Index. I didn't upvote or downvote any of the other options.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Cleanup thread from the last time the trope was TRS'd has been morgued as it will soon lose its purpose.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportCalling in favor of Odd Last Item Index, with Index Of Last Item Oddities being a redirect. I'll turn them into redirects in case any rewrites are needed.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. We can also keep the image; it still fits.
Edit: Epitaph done.
Edit 2: Move done; if any tropes are missing, feel free to add some. Videos are also handled, and only the quote page remains as I'm sure we can salvage at least a few. 3222 wicks
Edited by Berrenta on Aug 6th 2023 at 10:36:35 AM
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportAre there any ideas that can be yarded? It seems there's still a sizable number (considering the number of wicks) of entries that potentially fall into the "Non-redundant with any other trope" category (~ 3000 wicks * ~ 7% ~= 210 wicks).
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaYarding is a free action, so if you find anything that can be Yarded, go ahead with it.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I was thinking of going back to this after helping finish up some other threads.
Since we got 3k+ wicks, though, it'll take a while. Should a bulletin be made? It's been a while since we last made one.
Alright then.
Edited by Berrenta on Aug 17th 2023 at 9:33:23 AM
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportMight be a little too involved for a bulletin since "move to other tropes" will comprise a chunk of cleanup (probably near 750 of the wicks).
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailThe description of Arson, Murder, and Lifesaving is way too specific to cover anything tagged with it in the wick check. Even aside from the description of that trope being an excessively genre-specific Example as a Thesis ("any Cop Show where the protagonist is a Cowboy Cop"), most of the discussed examples weren't listing crimes.
Edited by Prfnoff on Aug 16th 2023 at 9:28:47 AM
That would probably need a look...another time.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportWhat do we want to do with Quotes. The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others?
I cut it.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Giving the thread a nudge as I will try to reduce the amount of wicks. We're at 3159 right now.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportWill start on wicks here. We're down to 3053.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportAdded "Five Things" Fic to the index, as it does fit the scope of the index.
Wick-wise, we are now below 3000.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportA disclaimer: Remember that the new name is an index; any uses as a trope should be moved to the appropriate trope and not Odd Last Item Index.
Three "not a trope" notifiers have been sent.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportSent yet another not a trope notifier. Perhaps it's time to consider greenlinking index redirects...
Edit: Proposed the idea with the rest of the staff. This will apply to other index redirects as well (like the long-defunct Incredibly Lame Pun).
Edited by Berrenta on Jan 20th 2024 at 10:05:04 AM
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFinally made the adjustment so we can discourage new wicks. I have a streak of off days coming up, so I may get back to cleaning.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportAll A and B namespace items cleaned, except for the project-related Administrivia.Wick Cleaning Projects and Archive.GIFT Wicks. There are 361 Characters/ pages to check. I also cleaned out several namespaces with only one entry, and a few others.
Please note that the following tropes on the Odd Last Item Index are No Real Life Examples, Please!:
I'm back!We're now below 2500.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportSo wait, we aren't allowed to link the "Odd Last Name" trope itself, even if its still being used at times?
We don't have an Odd Last Name trope. If you meant The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others, then the fact that it's now an index means it's not a trope and thus can't be listed as one. However, it's possible that one of the tropes listed on what is now the Odd Last Item Index will apply instead.

On WebAnimation.ASDF Movie, does this qualify as The Triple?
- The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others:
Girl: I like singing!
Boy: I like dancing!
"I Like Trains" kid: I like trains.
Crown Description:
Consensus was to turn The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others into an index and rename the page. What should its new name be?
Hooked a crowner.
