I'm seeing more a Warhammer and G.I. Joe fusion for the commandos myself.
Let's not get our hopes up. Someone dug up the dirt on who's responsible and it appears to be a Cryptobro with little understanding of IP rights. A damn shame because the artists involved did phenomenal work and I can only hope they got paid in more than pretend internet money.
I figured they were floating on shaky copyright water when DreamWorks or Universal themselves didn't mention any kind of partnership or official statement with this unknown company.
Honestly, I doubt this is even going to get off the ground if it's just a concept video for an NFT-influenced project.

I mean the little understanding of IP rights was obvious when they called their work Small Soldiers.
the more concerning part is him not paying his employees which hopefully he didnt do this time as their work is stellar.

Ironically dream works aren't even super strict with their licences. So they might have let this fly if they you know asked permission.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Well, if the NFT idiot failed to do any copyright stuff, can't the workers just pick up and restart the project themselves, this time with either different names or asking for permission first? We already know the engine they're using isn't proprietary.
x5: Oh that. I found that out from Chris McFeely.
Couldn't "NOPE" and yeet myself out any faster.
The back of the Necronites box, tells a interesting story.
Seems that the toyline's conflict is far more thought out then the simplistic "Soldiers fight the monsters" that the Commando Elite got saddled with, which I'm pretty certain is why they were so insane in the orginal film and why the Gorgons weren't.
The Gorgons orginally made to be educational toys, before being recycled as villains because of their monstrous apppearance, where as the Commando's barely had any characterization beyond, destroy the Gorgons. In other words: Put some thought into your narratives.
This is what is says, though I couldn't make out a couple of words.
- "Formally known as Caden Cannon, a proud member of the Empire he fought against the Necronites alongside his sister Ray. After receiving a fatal wound in battle his sister saved his life in the Necron pits, even though this meant he would be reborn as a Necronite and become her sworn enemy.
Brainwashed by the ingraspable knowledge of the Necron mind, and with a- experience in battle, Kadenn was chosen as leader of the army- determined to end this war against the Empire and his sister.
The only way to stop the war is... TO WIN!"

I really wish this was official and approved by Joe Dante… and also not a crypto scam.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. So far there's been nothing except the video, and the reputation of two of the people involved, to go off on.
So let's wait and see if this turns out to be anything of substance first before we make assumptions. I'd rather wait for confirmation than writing it off right away.

It's now titled War for the Nekron. That's probably a good call.
If that's still not distinct enough, they could always call them NecroKnights?

There's an official Instagram page with individual bio's for the characters. https://www.instagram.com/small_soldiers_official/
Bwahaha! One of them's literally named "Prick." I'm not usually that much of a dirty-jokist but that HAD to be intentional, right?
Crog is adorable and I want to poke him.
...and still no word on whether this is official or not?
> .and still no word on whether this is official or not?
its fairly obvious its not
New theme music also a box
The Nekronite second-in-command is definitely an allusion to the Gorganites.

These are a pretty good fancasts.
Also this toy channel covers some of the new lore.
Wait, so is this official and happening or not? Because I thought we established it was some NFT nonsense of questionable legality.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. Not sure. But there does seem to be something bubbling.
NFT stuff is what paid for the trailer from what I understand. It's entirely possible Small Soldiers' original makers have quietly given their blessing and someone fronted them some reliable cash now.
It's probably still going to be quite awhile before we see a finished game or movie. Whichever it's for. From what I've personally found online, opinion's split on which is the case.
But I think we can all agree that if the project does manage to take off, it'll be a hell of a thing to see. And a great homage to its predecessor, whether it gets to claim that legally, or just spiritually.
Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido.
The Necronites look like they're from Warcraft and the Commandos look like Overwatch.
