Transformers Image/Skybound Discussion

I'm not gonna lie. I was genuinely hoping it'd be someone else.

So....we're still sure that's Ratchet right? There's no one else with that head crest and body type (again, the closest match is Ironhide, who doesn't have the crest). Like, the'ye not gonna reveal it's Minerva with a slightly new design or something?

Also, what do we think their vehicle forms will be? Like, Optimus and Wheeljack can get somewhat modern versions of their classic looks, there are other options for Cliff besides his old Porsche alternate mode, and even Ratchet can get some abulance that still let his robot mode be G1-esque if they want, but Arcee looks to be hardcore rocking that G1 aesthetic, and there are no vehicles that resemble her robot mode at all, so she's either gonna go !@#$% it and just be a damned space car, or all of them will get some new kibble soon enough.

Yeah. Cliffjumper seems like the only prank. Honestly, they should have saved him for last, and gotten everyone overconfident.

Edit: Also, every character in that picture has been dead at some point in their history.

Knowing Bumblebee shares the same silhouette, you would have expected him with how prominent he is in other pieces of media. Glad it's Cliffjumper, we need a change of pace. Now we hope he doesn't get stuffed in a fridge.

Anyone else think there's too much red in the starting roster? Maybe it's to separate the Autobots from the Decepticons and/or other Hasbro properties.

You are right. Except for the Pink Arcee, every character has some red on them.

Now I wish they'd really screwed with us and used some wild cards.

Give me Sideburn, or Evac or use Prime Cliffjumper instead of his G1 self.

Which seeker do you think is in the silhouette? Do you think that's Rumble, Frenzy, or someone else in the small silhouette?

As for the lack of Megatron, we'll see what happens. Some incarnations have him not aligned with the Decepticons and they have been refreshing because of that. Other incarnations saved him for a big reveal to make his reveal more daunting.

Not sure of the likelihood, but I'm hoping the other Seeker might be Slipstream, if only because I really want to see a pair of Seeker spark-twins bickering with each other and vying for total control of the Decepticons now that Megatron is (seemingly) MIA.

But I guess we'll find out soon enough in a couple of hours.

Last I checked, only the EarthSpark series has done the "non-Decepticon affiliated Megatron" from the get-go. IDW1 might have started it with Megatron the Autobot, but that was after he was a real spawn of a glitch in the Furman, AHM, and Costa eras of IDW1. Did we have other incarnations where Megatron wasn't a Decepticon?

Looks like the Laserbeak silhouette belonged to Laserbeak after all.

Maybe they're learning from Cliffjumper and are saving the surprise cast member for last?

Still looks like a silhouette with all that black; it's hard to make him out.

Hasbro has been announcing/releasing G.I. Joe x Transformers toys. Think those will tie into the comics? Maybe it's just a coincidence.

No wonder Optimus reminded me of OP-Leader. I am now interested what other toys the artists are inspired by.

Original designs would be refreshing. It’s always been a draw for me and helps separate incarnations from one another (for better or for worse). I still wish everyone good luck.

Being really G1 influenced is pretty basic, hopefully the execution proves really interesting

Watched the video. He wasn’t impressed by IDW and has fond memories of the original Marvel comics. He wants a return to form. I have no clue if this will be beneficial or not.

I’m probably thinking this way because I’m a 90s kid; my favourite incarnations of Transformers are those that broke the mold. Granted, some incarnations of properties do a great job by embracing their roots.

Not being impressed by IDW does make a part of me concerned. But then, IDW2 doubled down on politics and standing around contemplating cyber-navels and not a lot of grand action, so with that in mind, a return to form to explosions and balls-to-the-wall action sounds like a much-needed punch to breathe life back into our favorite robots in disguise.

And I think after having a grey, but ultimately heroic-coded Optimus Prime in the IDW1, we're ready for a concentrated heroic Optimus this time around.

I do agree that the IDW-verse had a lot of issues though I'm not in with going back to G1 nostalgia, that swings too far in the other direction.
