I'm generally optimistic, as I think the MCU has done pretty well with spy thrillers, but then a little voice whispers in my ear 'Remember Captain America and the Winter Soldier' and consider that this is probably going to involve some discussion of refugee politics, terrorism, and the MCU's insane supra/inter-national structure, all of which that show massively fumbled...
I'm very excited for this show, and while I agree the last show with a similar tone kind of stumbled I still have some faith this will be good, closer to Cap 2 in quality.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyWhile I agree that FATWS didn't do an amazing job with tackling its very real and heavy themes, I did enjoy the show's action sequences and globetrotting. Something I think we'll see more of in this show.
I think Secret Invasion has the benefit of having a more fantastical plot via the Skrulls, while also not being so one-note like the original comic. Instead of painting them as "they're all bad just because", the show seems to be going out of its way to depict both good and evil Skrulls, and really make the paranoia of who can be trusted prevalent.
They could fumble the ball (especially if they don't use the runtime for six episodes well as has been the case previously), but I think the general idea looks really cool so far, and looks more like Cap 2 as said.
Trust no one.Haha, I liked Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so I don't have to be nervous!
But yeah, I thought the new trailer looked awesome. I'm totally hyped for Nick Fury center stage, and I hope Maria Hill gets a lot to do as well because Cobie Smulders is fantastic too, and I'm really hoping for the tension and paranoia to be so strong. I think this'll be a lot of fun.
As far as I can see there are no shared creators between this and F&TWS so no particular concerns from me that it will go over the same issues in the same way.
That said, I am one of the apparent few who did actually like F&TWS despite its flaws.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Y'know, if you think about it, the whole premise of "aliens come to Earth and infiltrate society by posing as humans" was previously done in live action last year by Peacemaker. The main difference from how things usually go in the Marvel vs. DC competition is that here, the DC entry (Peacemaker) is the more comedic one whereas the Marvel entry (Secret Invasion) seems to be the more serious one.
The cold never bothered me anywayEven funnier in that James Gunn had the guy who played one of the aliens in Peacemaker play another alien in Guardians 3.
Although yes, it is funny that Marvel is the serious one here while DC did a comedic take. Though with people complaining about jokes and humor taking over too many projects recently, a return to Winter Soldier grittiness is appreciated.
Trust no one.It might be a trailer misdirection shot, but that shot of Talos reverting to Skrull form after getting shot looks like he might die in this. Alternatively, it's his wife who dies.
Also, there's something that makes me feel like their daughter will have a Heel–Face Turn near the end. I don't know why I think that.
The cold never bothered me anywayI hope Soren doesn't die. She seems like such an interesting character that I want to see developed further, especially as her family is set to be focused on more in this show. Same with Talos, as I really like how the character as developed, and want to see more.
Not sure what implies that G'iah is a bad guy here. She seems to be on Fury's side from what we see in the trailer.
Trust no one.The Vanity Fair article kinda insinuated that she fell in with the extremist Skrulls.

The cold never bothered me anywayIt mentions that she's fed up with Fury and humans for not doing much for them, but it doesn't necessarily say that she fell in with Gravik...
But who knows? I could see why she'd go that direction, especially after being cramped on a satellite for so many years, and I'd like to see a punk alien woman. At the same time though, that does kinda sour the chance of her and Monica having a happy reunion, which kinda makes me sad.
Trust no one.Watching the trailer again I noticed there is a Dept of Damage Control box labeled as 'Specimen Sample: Cull. I wonder if it's Cull Obsidian's arm that got cut off in Infinity War.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyWhat would they want with that?
Trust no one.and That seems to be the suggestion from the spoilers, but I admit to some confusion as basically no humans know they exist and no humans are keeping them out—given the power differential, they historically couldn't. Their beef, to the extent they have one ought to be with Fury and Captain Marvel. I'll also just say, I do think they're going for a refugee story/analogy, when to be frank, more technologically advanced, but numerically fewer group shows up and attempts to coopt local power structures is a story of colonialism/imperialism.
DNA for Super-Skrulls?

You and I remember Budapest very differentlyThat was my guess at well. There was a bit in the first teaser about what they wanted, and Fury had a sort of knowing answer.
I wouldn't be surprised if Fury had a hidden stash of various Avengers' DNA somewhere and the Skrulls wanted to exploit that. Along with all the other secret stuff Fury no doubt knows about that no one else does.
I fully expect Dermot Mulraney's POTUS to get both replaced and killed off by the end of this, though they could go with a "chooses to resign since no one can fully trust if he's human or not" route, instead.
Fury with Avengers DNA... Oh no, is that how Clone Thor happens?
If Clone Thor happens, they better keep Bill Foster way the fuck away from him.
Trust no one.So does anybody think the Skrulls will actually be the bad guys? Because judging by how non-Wakandan politicians are so horrifically corrupt you could have them set crippled orphans on fire and it wouldn't be out of character, I'm betting on Ritson being the real bad guy.
There's probably going to be good and evil in many sides. Gravik is set up as being the Big Bad, but Ritson might also have some villainous qualities. And then of course there's the possibility of the Kree getting involved...
Trust no one.Yeah, from that trailer I think we’d going to get both human and Skrull big bads, possibly working together.
Inb4 this show introduces yet another Illuminati-sequel organization pulling the strings from the shadows.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I don't remember any parts that hinted at human antagonists.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyFalsworth has basically been described as someone who can be an antagonist or a help to Fury. Which is pretty much the vibe I got from the trailer.
It'll be interesting to see how Falsworth connects to Fury and what she does in the UK that makes her so morally gray.
I'm really curious to see how much the UK is used as a setting here, given how it's primarily been a hotspot for supernatural and/or cosmic events in mosts installments.
Trust no one.
With the second trailer for Secret Invasion having just been released, I thought I'd start a forum for it since no one else has done it yet.
I know I've said it already, but I don't think I've been this hyped for a Marvel D+ show since WandaVision. It looks really good and distinct from what we've seen before.
Trust no one.
