It is an age of heroes. From the day the Saint was first seen in newsreels back in '39, the world has always had champions. For decades, they've protected it from superpowered criminals, mad scientists, nazi nitwits, alien invaders, and even the odd incursion from other dimensions. Regardless of their origins, they have long vowed to protect the world and make it a better place.

But the Saint and his legacy aren't universal. While some countries followed in his footsteps, others had their own sort of heroes. For decades, Japan has carved its mark with heroes all their own. Everything from Henshin Heroes to Magical Girls to battle hungry martial artists and more have graced Japan with their presence. Harnessing the power of hot-blooded passion, they've protected it from countless threats. Alien invaders, mad conquerors and domestic terrorists have all attempted to rule Japan or sink it into the ocean, but they've all risen to the occasion.

Things have changed. After years of failed invasions and incursions, a new threat emerged. Known as Kaiju, they first appeared at the start of the 21st century. At first they were manageable, but as the years went on, they steadily grew more frequent. Powerful and enormous, these creatures could appear anytime and anyplace. Between all the other threats the country was facing, Japan was devastated. Unable to hold the monsters at bay, they spread to the rest of the world, engulfing it in chaos. With their large population of heroes and superior resources, they held them back, but Japan was left to fend for itself.

In 2023, Japan is on the brink. The country is in shambles. Most of it has been ravaged or seized, split into territories or personal fiefdoms. The heroes and the military work together out of necessity, but they've barely made a dent. Their presence has kept the country afloat, but only just. Japan is a warzone and is one step away from falling to darkness.

There's a glimmer of hope. With Japan's collapse a distinct possibility, a new city was built to ensure it endured. Sitting just off the coast, Fuji City shines bright, a monument to heroes and Japan's enduring legacy. The current base of Japan's government, the city has attracted heroes from all over. It serves as both a stronghold and base of operations, a place where heroes can rest before returning to the battlefield. The citizens of Fuji city can live normal lives free from the consequences of war, knowing their heroes will protect them. But it can't last forever. If Japan can't turn things around, Fuji City will become the centre of attention.

But it's more than a stronghold. In the centre of Fuji City sits Silver Academy. Obtenstiably a University, it's both a school for heroes and a military academy but isn't strictly either. As expected, there's a certain level of discipline, but its purpose remains the same. Japan has plenty of soldiers, but what it needs are heroes. Backed by the Kosmos Conglmaerate and the state government, those who graduate get a degree and their official blessing. The more heroes that graduate, the greater chance Japan has of ensuring their future.

Hey, everyone! This is a Superhero/Anime Academy RP, co-run by me and Kingxana 0. It's ostensibly a Superhero RP, but with a strong Japanese flavour. You've got Henshin Heroes, Shonen Heroes, Magical Girls, Humongous Mecha and more all keeping Japan safe. Anything in the spirit of anime or tokuatsu is fair game. There are several Classes to give you inspiration, but there aren't any hard rules. This RP is OC only, but feel free to make expies.

Most of the RP will involve taking classes and engaging in activities such as superpowered sports or tournaments to test your skills against each other. The rest will involve mission or field studies near occupied territory. Japan is a warzone with battles erupting all over, but as a hero in training, you should know what you're walking into. No matter how bad things get, love and courage will always win the day, even if it's a long ways off. As students of Silver Academy, you're expected to stay on school grounds, similar to a military academy. But as responsible adults, you're free to explore the city at your leisure. Fuji City is a bustling metropolis with adventure around every corner, but the horrors of war are a stone's throw away.

CHARACTER CREATION SHEET
  • Real Name:
  • Superhero Name:
  • Age: 18-23
  • Appearance:
  • Costume: Self explanatory. Henshin Heroes, Magical Girls and Idols should have costumes, but for everyone else, it's optional. For Super and Real Robots, the mini-mechs serve as a costume.
  • Personality:
  • Hero Class: Compared to the West, Japan has many different sorts of heroes with as many classes to fit them. Each class has several distinct characteristics that make them stand out, but no hero is exactly the same. For some heroes, what class they belong to isn't clear-cut, but Japan loves its sense of order. For a full list of classes, see below.
  • Powers: Try and keep your character from being too overpowered. Anyone with Superman level abilities is flat-out. This includes time-travel abilities and long-range or instant teleports. Healing abilities are allowed, but can only be used after a fight for the sake of balance. Your powers should correspond to your class, but they're more of a guideline than hard rules.
  • Gear: Also self-explanatory. This can include equipment that gives you your powers or any weapons or gadgets you have to assist you, like a Batarang or grappling hook. For many classes, this is a must.
  • Background:
  • Etc: Anything you can think of that doesn't fit into the other categories.

    Hero Classes
  • Classic/Standard Heroes: Classic Heroes are what the rest of the world holds as the standard. No suits of armour or fancy techniques. They have powers of various origins, but there's nothing else that brings them together. Incredibly common in the West, not so much in the East.
  • Spirit Hunters/Samurai: Formerly Yokai Hunters, changed their name when yokai became part of society. Skilled in swordplay and spiritual techniques, their speciality is hunting demons or other supernatural beings. After the Lost Decade, they began battling Supervillains and similar threats to sustain their careers. Are often called Samurai on account of their katana and colourful kimonos, but it's not what they call themselves.
  • Ninja Hero: Ninja heroes, nuff said. Can use ninjutsu, shurikens, smoke bombs and other cool ninja things. Most of them are part of families or ninja villages with long histories as assassins and spies. Some of them have chosen different paths, but they keep their traditions alive.
  • Yokai Watchers: Since integrating into human culture, some Yokai have used their gifts to become heroes. Just as many are villains, but it's pushed others to give Yokai a good name. They have many abilities, but they depend on their specific race.
  • Science Hero: Back in the olden days when spirit bombs and technicoloured suits were but a twinkle in people's eyes, science reigned supreme. Clever inventors battled monsters and spacial anomalies with nothing but their wits, building freeze rays and quantum beams in the blink of an eye. Nowadays they act as support. All those fancy heroes need someone to build their gadgets. But every now and then, a brave soul comes along to follow in their footsteps and show the world the power of SCIENCE!
  • Henshin Hero: Fancy cyborgs with cool gadgets, can switch between their costume and civies in the blink of an eye. Prone to flashy techniques and calling their attacks.
  • Super Robots: Mini mechas or armours, about as large as a convenience store. Slow, bulky and flashy, but a lot of power.
  • Real Robots: Similar to Super Robots, but smaller and sleeker. Less powerful but with considerably more mobility, easier to produce.
  • Magical Girls: Girls who use the power of friendship against the forces of evil. Most of them have a heart theme, tend to be very friendly and cutesy. Love, optimism and general cuteness fuel their powers. The more cynical or edgy they are, the weaker they become. Their powers are magic based, often handed out by witches or mysterious alien beings, but love and compassion are paramount.
  • Shounen Heroes: Incredibly powerful martial artists. By harnessing their chi, they can perform superhuman feats. They have limitless potential, but have limited chi and can easily burn themselves out. Their powers are destructive and less effective against kaiju, preventing them from being too OP.
  • Summoners: Some people have great spiritual power dwelling within. Many channel that power in different ways. Some can harness it through their sword, but others are special. If they concentrate hard enough, they can summon a powerful being to fight in their stead. Some have a spirit dwelling in, others can use books or monster cards to summon specific beings. These are less powerful than natural summons, but they have more options. Natural Summon Spirits tend to be named after rock bands, but it's not universal.
  • Psychics: People born with psychic powers. They can be telepathic, telekinetic, pyrokinetic, etc, but most psychics are stuck with one or two powersets. You can't be telepathic and telekinetic and pyrokinetic because it's too OP. Only a few people are blessed with that sort of power, but having too many gifts can harm the psyche.
  • Isekaied: Isekaed is less of a specific class and more of a generalization. Most of them have moderate physical enhancements, but they can break the laws of reality in small ways. Most of them gained their powers after a near-death experience, but getting hit by a truck is shockingly common. There may be a connection to the Lost Decade, but this isn't unique to Isekaied.
  • Idols: Music has power. It can change the way we view the world, make us happy or sad, make us feel things we wouldn't have felt without it. Idol Heroes take this to the logical extreme. Gifted with spiritual power, they can manifest it in a special way, empowering their music with mystical properties. Their music is strong on its own, but they can make it stronger with a good performance. They can alter emotions en masse, grants buff or debuffs, or concentrate on explosive attacks. They're solid support, but the strongest aren't afraid to get creative.
  • Metal Heroes: Kid Kosmos was the hero of the 50's. After the first generation of heroes faded out, Kosmos started the next with a bang. The first android of his kind, he was strong and tough but adorably innocent. He was programmed with an unshakeable moral code, but he had a semblance of free will. He chose to battle evil and set a precedent that all heroes would follow, but he never found a proper successor. He was lightning in a bottle, his programming too advanced to replicate. Most androids made after were built as support, assisting other heroes and Sentai teams instead of battling villains themselves. It's only recently that other AI's have advanced enough to make their own decisions or that other robots have been able to contain it. Most Metal Heroes fall into two categories. Either they're a top-class Flying Brick or a ranged attacker, shooting enemies with energy blasts from a distance. Some can absorb their opponents' power, though it's harder with organics. This isn't universal, but they're the most common builds.
  • Magika: As the name implies, Magika is a catch-all term for witches and wizards with strong potential. They're more common in the West, but a pure Japanese magika is rare. They can cast powerful spells, but the stronger the spell, the more mana it consumes. An epic explosion looks flashy, but it'll burn them out pretty quickly.

     Anime Academy Timeline
  • 1930's: Era of kamishibai/paper theatre. In the really real world, Kamishibai was somewhere between comics and performance art. Artists would carry around paintings and use those to tell a story, adding sound effects and theatrics when necessary. There was enough variety, but they had costumed heroes with superpowers and SID's years before Superman's debut. In-universe it's full of yokai hunters and street level heroes, but most of them stay local. As yokai become more common and understood, yokai hunters get a bad rap and become less common. The first Japanese Superhero was the Silver Ghoul, a ghostly ronin who hated evil with a vengeance. Most of Japan's future heroes would not follow in his footsteps, but he deserves recognition.
  • 1940's: More of the same but with an imperialist bent. The rise of the Axis cements Japan's growing nationalism and their own fascist tendencies. This is reflected in the Superhero population. Many become callous brutes or agents of the state. Those who don't are crushed. Near the end of WWII, Japan gets desperate and tries to force Yokai to do their bidding, but this ends in disaster. Yokai become common knowledge and Japan is even more devastated than it would have been.
  • 1950s After WWII, Japan didn't have many heroes of its own. Most were KIA or POW's. Morale was low. Japan was an occupied state and would remain so for years to come. It took another ten years for a new generation of heroes to come aboard. Kid Kosmos was the first. The first android of its kind, it was a breakthrough in robotics and AI, but it was so advanced that it was impossible to replicate. It was meant to be a servant, but after seeing evil firsthand, they chose to become a hero. Their actions set a precedent, but it comes with consequences.
  • 1960's: Robotics take a backseat to more traditional heroics. Many attempts to make their own Kid Kosmos but the results are mixed. The most they can do are advanced armour or cybernetics, but it's a step forward. Criminal organizations begin copying such technology for themselves and use it to terrorize Japan. Aliens start invading Earth and Japan is powerless to defend itself. The result is a new sort of hero. Using this new technology for good, Henshin Heroes appear and battle the terrorists and invaders, forcing them back. This gets the attention of the Space Patrol, a galactic organization intent on keeping the peace. They come to Japan's ad, lending their technology and creating new Henshin Heroes of their own.
  • 1970's: The terrorist attacks and alien invasions continue, but Japan and the rest of the world holds them off. With the Space Patrol's help, robotics have evolved in a new direction. While they can't recreate Kosmos Kid's advanced AI, they've created stronger robots to protect the country. These robots are no bigger than a convivence store, but without an AI, they need humans to operate them. The country becomes filled with Super Robots, though most other heroes can keep up. As the robots grow more powerful, so too do their threats. Underground civilizations pop out of the woodwork, evil wizards start wreaking havoc and even the Yokai are getting out of hand. By the end of the 70's, robotics shift from raw power to ease of use. These slimmed-down models aren't as strong, but they're nimbler and easier to produce. With Earth becoming ever more perilous, Japan and other countries work with the space patrol to construct space colonies as a contingency method. All of these issues and more create internal struggles that will soon come to a head with R.R's ('Real Robots') at the forefront.
  • 1980's: The start of the 80's doesn't look so bad. With more magical threats appearing, magical heroes appear to confront them. For some inexplicable reason, all of these new heroes are girls. These Magical Girls bring a spark of hope to the nation, but it's too little too late. Japan is able to contain most of its threats, but this doesn't stop the country from tearing itself apart. New political factions appear, all with opposing thoughts on how this new technology should be used. A group of pro-colony extremists (A.X.I.S) forces the issue. They hijack most of the colonies and begin attacking government facilities with RR's, leading to a brief civil war. It ends with both groups reaching a compromise and technology continuing to advance, but Japan is devastated. The decade ends as it begins, magical girls leading the charge and bringing hope to the masses, but it's not enough.
  • 1990's: 'FALSEH 0 PE@LPH@0MEG@BEG!NN!ING@NDENDUCNNOTRED 00101010 EEEENENSDFFSDZZZZZZZZZ
  • 2000's: By the early 2000's, Japan has returned to some degree of normalcy, but no one is sure how. It's like someone flipped a switch, but something tells them not to question it. While alien invasions and other threats continue, Japan is more capable of dealing with them. Yokai have integrated themselves into human culture, but most people roll with it. With their robots and colonies in full swing and their heroes stronger than ever, Japan is ready for any challenges they may face. Somewhere around the start of this new era, new heroes emerge, honing the power of martial arts to superhuman levels. These Shonen Heroes are incredibly strong and only get stronger, but tend to be obsessed with battle and somewhat stupid. The other heroes balance them out. Giant monsters begin appearing and while these new heroes aren't helpless, the others are more effective against them. To make sure these battle-hungry idjits don't get themselves killed, an academy is built to train their abilities and prepare them for what's ahead.
  • 2010's: As the 2010's roll on, the incursions become more frequent. Japan's enemies grow stronger, spreading to the rest of the world. By 2020, Japan is close to collapse and begins taking emergency measures. Many are afraid the Lost Decade will happen again and a few wish it will. As things continue to worsen, a new Lost Decade seems all but inevitable.

    The Lost Decade
Most of Japan's history is common knowledge, but the last decade of the 20th century is a mystery.' No one's sure what happened, but it was so bad, the universe pulled a reset and blocked it out of everyone's consciousness. (There's an explanation, but no one could tell you what it is.) Most people don't remember it and don't want to, but they know things were bad. Even those who were born after it have a subconscious awareness, the cosmic reset shuffling people around as a defence mechanism. Most curiously, the Kaiju only appeared after the Lost Decade came to an end. There's no proof, but the government strongly suspects a connection. (Out of universe, it's what happens if you put Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain and every other piece of metaphysical fuckery from that space together and see what happens.)

     Japan's Most Wanted
  • The number one threat is the kaiju. No-one knows where they came from, but once the Lost Decade came to an end, they started crawling out of the woodwork. They're enormous monsters that can appear anytime anywhere and take up most of the heroes' time. Other monsters are mistaken for Kaiju, battle beasts from the underground kingdom of Mencia or terrorzons from the Galaxian Empire, but both of those have mechanical components. The Kaiju are purely organic and often more dangerous. Shonen Heroes and their fancy ki attacks aren't effective against them and keeps them making other heroes obsolete.
  • As mentioned, the Underground Kingdom of Mencia and the Galaxian Empire. They've been around since the 70's, constantly threatening Japan with repeated incursions. Only the Kaiju are more dangerous. Both of them have their own generals, each more dangerous and bizarre than the last. Against the Galaxians, the Space Patrol and the colonies are the first line of defence, but stray ships can still break through.
  • Okaji, King of Destruction. Once a young shonen hero full of spunk, he became obsessed with battle. The more he fought, the stronger he got. Now a grown man, he only cares about being the strongest. He'll battle anyone or anything he thinks is strong and will always use his full strength no matter how many people get caught in the crossfire. Only the strongest heroes can stop him and there may come a day when he's all but unbeatable.
  • Sword Villain, Terror of Griskul. Once an ordinary teenager, he got hit by a truck and was transported to the kingdom of Griskul, a world where slavery is an institution. Instead of railing against the system, he willingly participated in it, indulging in a third-rate power fantasy. After getting crushed in a freak stampede, he returned home but had all his power and more. He could brainwash young women and make them part of his harem, a reflection of his personality. He's attempted to make Japan his personal fiefdom and only the strongest heroes can stop him.

     The Kosmos Conglomerate
The Kosmos Conglomerate is Japan's answer to the Saint Foundation. Like their Western counterpart, they give heroes financial support and keep them organized, but they're a lot more strict. It's hard to be a hero without their express approval and it's harder to get it without a degree. During the Lost Decade, they were a lot closer to NERV, but they seem to be on the up-and-up.

Breath of the Sun
#2: Mar 19th 2023 at 8:28:51 PM

  • Real Name: Kimiko Ishikawa
  • Superhero Name: Night-Tail
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance: A rat-woman with whitish-gray fur and red eyes. Long-legged, and lithe. Her legs end in large, clawed, pink feet, and her hands, nose and tail are pink as well. Her tail is long and cordlike. Her hair is thick, curly, the same color as her fur, and she keeps it cut short.
  • Costume: Her hero outfit is dark blue ninja attire, albeit with something of a modern punk aesthetic. She wears long pants, and a sports bra under a mesh shirt. She wears light armor panels over her shins and arms, armored bands on her tail, and she wears a mask that covers her snout from the eyes down.
  • Personality: Kimiko takes pride in her physical prowess and enjoys acrobatics, yoga and fighting, though she's not prone to violence. Sharply focused and not easily deceived, she is a trained warrior at heart. Willing to oppose corrupt authority, and to kill if it proves absolutely necessary, though she tries to avoid doing so. Kimiko has a strong sense of justice, and cannot stand idly by while innocents are in danger.
  • Hero Class: Ninja
  • Powers:
    • Year of the Rat: Being a humanoid rat confers a number of advantages
      • Each of her hands and feet are tipped with sharp claws.
      • Her long, prehensile tail acts like a third arm.
      • She is an adept swimmer and climber.
      • Her sense of smell is greatly enhanced, and can see well in the dark.
      • Her bite is approximately ten times stronger than that of a human.
      • She's highly resistant to toxins and disease.
      • Being covered in fur gives some protection against the cold.
    • Combat Training: Kimiko is a skilled martial artist, incredibly flexible and nimble. She is practiced in the 'Art of Five Limbs', a martial art developed by her clan, utilizing hands, feet, and tail for sharp, precise strikes. She's skilled at physical combat in general, and also in the use of various melee weapons and throwing knives.
    • Stealth Training: Kimiko can move without making any sound, and blend in well in the dark. As a hero, though, she tends to focus more on flashy combat rather than sneaking.
    • Ninjutsu: Mystical ninja abilities, derived from the manipulation of ki, or life energy.
      • Taijutsu: Channeling energy into the body to enhance oneself to physically superhuman levels. Also enables her to walk on walls and water.
      • Bunshin: The creation of solid duplicates. The duplicates are weaker than Kimiko herself, and can be dispelled in one good hit.
      • Shurikenjutsu: Kimiko can conjure an endless number of throwing stars, knives, and other small bladed implements.
  • Gear: A number of light armor plates as part of her hero costume. She wears five rings that conceal hidden blades on her wrists, ankles, and the end of her tail.
  • Background:
    • The Nezumi clan of ninja traces its lineage back to feudal Japan, where they were supposedly allied to the Iga ninja clan serving the legendary Hattori Hanzo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. However, they turned against Tokugawa near the end of the Warring States period, siding instead with another Lord, Ishida Mitsunari. This proved disastrous, and Mitsunari's province was crushed by Tokugawa. The Nezumi clan dispersed, some hiding across Japan while others fled to different countries. In secret, they passed down their ninja arts from parent to child. Kimiko's parents were no different, and trained her to fight and use their secret arts from a young age.
    • Though some of their relatives tried stints as heroes, most wound up abandoning the path either to try and live normal lives, or becoming thieves to make ends meet. But Kimiko had a potent chi, stronger than any member of their clan in decades. With this power, she desired to one day be a hero. At the same time, her family spun tales of ancient ninja, including one Ishikawa Goemon. A gallant thief, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Or so the legend went - and among the Nezumi, it was further claimed that Goemon had been one of their own. Regardless of the truth of this statement, it inspired her.
    • She would become a hero, to fight against injustice as her ancestors did. A gallant ninja who aided those in need.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

  • Real Name: Matsuki Kyonori
  • Superhero Name: Freefall
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Almost a mirror image of his father, Matsuki is a tall, lean young man with wavy black hair, blue eyes, and a light tan. His powers affect his appearance - and all his clothes have two cuts in the back for where his wings can emerge. Matsuki even going by appearance lets his nervousness show. Whenever he's too close to home, he goes from a brave and good natured hero to distinctly afraid, even though he doesn't like showing such. Matsuki is a remarkably handsome young man, and its worth mentioning that his father initially had modeling in mind for his son's future as opposed to hero work.
  • Costume: Matsuki wears a bright white and blue spandex outfit that accommodates his wings, and which is usually held in a watch on his wrist. It also includes some mechanical armored pieces, and a pair of ear pieces.
  • Personality: Matsuki is a statement to contradictions - in school, he's bold, a would-be charmer and consummate flirt, bright and confident...but the very moment that "Father" threatens to get involved, or is invoked, Matsuki's confidence becomes a lot shakier. He has to really struggle to piece it back together, and if his father is outright present, he defaults to an almost servile, pitiful manner of acting. He has some rather messed up ideas about how family relationships, and relationships in general, are supposed to work - as a consequence of living in the Richler Family Household. He doesn't really have much of a relationship with his siblings.
  • Hero Class: Standard Hero, though oddly he could've gone Idol too.
  • Powers:
    • Matsuki's wings are bright gold and very fluffy looking...but this is at best a facade. They're actually fiendishly sharp, capable of shredding steel easily, and the quills include an agonizing poison that literally stimulates 85% of someone's pain receptors.
    • As an Aeolian, directly descended from Wolfang, he has Magic Music - humming a discordant tune lets him use more destructive magic, while humming something more bright lets him reinforce his body, as well as heal others, though not himself. He can also make use of a sword made of fire...which, despite appearances, freezes foes rather than burning them.
  • Gear: none as of now.
  • Background: Matsuki is the current "favorite" of the Richler / Kyonori Family, an infamous and powerful wealthy clan that has extensive influence - between their real estate including casinos and hotels, owned under the "Pale Radish" brand, as well as other...dealings, Wolfang has built himself up as a powerful figure. Matsuki is regarded by him as his crowning achievement in recent time - though this is not to say that he's had it at all easy. If anything, the opposite. Matsuki, despite the intentions his father had for him, decided to become a hero in the wake of an incident. Though displeased, Wolfang seemed to get an idea and agreed with the course. After all, you can't profit if everything collapses.
  • Etc:
    • Matsuki's brother Keaton Richler is currently trying out to be a doctor at the Academy.
    • Each of the family has a western name and a Japanese name.

  • Real Name: Mason Kiatori
  • Superhero Name: Masked Hero Revolution
  • Age: 18-23: 20
  • Appearance: "Ready to see my Henshin?"
  • Costume: As Mason has multiple "forms", it depends on which one he's using to fight with. As such, his base mode is a very simple attire of a black undersuit and colorless, grey armor that connects over his chest, upper arms, groin area, and thighs. He has simple metal bracers that go over his forearms into his hands, simple boots, and a helmet with two large bug-eye visors. Whenever he changes into one of his other forms, it changes to a more animalistic appearance.
  • Personality: I want you to imagine the atypical shonen protagonist. The one with the bright colors and the big smiles. The ones who don't give up, no matter how bad the situation might be. That is Mason. Inspired by the heroes of the world, including his own "Masked Fighter" mother, Mason chose to follow the path of his mother against his father's wishes, in order to keep the world safe and sound for him, and the people he cares about most. He's also OBNOXIOUSLY loud and peppy and tends to get on people's nerves.
  • Hero Class: Henshin Hero.
  • Powers: As a Henshin Hero, Mason's powers come more from the gear and the abilities of said gear than any inline powers. As such, it depends on whichever form he's currently using.
    • "Shishi" mode: The form using his Lion Companion, Shi-kun, grants him equal attack and speed boosts while giving him access to claw weapons for close melee combat.
    • "Saru" mode: The from using his Gorilla companion, Gori-Gori. The mode trades a lot of speed for exceptional tankiness and full strength.
    • "Washi" mode: The form using his Eagle companion, Eaglen. This mode lacks the strength and tankiness of Saru but makes up for it with blinding speed.
  • Gear: Mason has several pieces of gear, ones that he's created through his years of tinkering and creation. He has his Transformation Trinket, the "Revolve Driver", a belt that accepts the animal companions that Mason has, while also being able to use the Gear components with them.
    • Shi-Kun: The Lion robotic companion that Mason made first. A small, red, and white lion creature about the size of his palm.
    • Gori-Gori: The gorilla robotic companion that Mason created second. A small, blue and green gorilla robot that fits in his palm.
    • Eaglen: The Eagle robotic companion Mason created last. A small, gold and silver eagle fits in the palm of his hand.
    • Heat Gear: A gear that allows Mason to give his current form Fire-type abilities and attacks.
    • Ice Gear: A gear that allows Mason to give his current form Ice-type abilities and attacks.
    • Lightning Gear: A gear that allows Mason to give his current form Lightning-type abilities and attacks.
  • Background: When most people grow up with a parent who proves to be bigger than the world, some people tend to grow up in their shadow and become bitter about it. Thankfully, that was not the case with Mason Kiatori, whose mother was a well-known Super Hero by the name of "Masked Hero Genesis". Wanting nothing more than to follow in her footsteps, Mason dedicated his time to forging his own path of being a "Master Hero" that could save people just like his mother could. While his father didn't approve, mostly due to the fact he couldn't stand BOTH members of his family being out on the streets, possibly ready to die at a moment's notice, Mason couldn't be discouraged. So, with his genius-level intellect, he set upon himself to create his Revolve Driver and the Robotic companions who would not only become his power source but his dear friends as well. So, with nothing to stop him and an absolutely burning desire to help change the world for the better, Mason set off, to make the world a better place, and to make "Masked Hero Revolution" a household name.
  • Etc:
    • Shi-kun is naturally curious and tends to get into a lot of trouble if not tended to constantly.
    • Gori-Gori is a massive klutz and tends to break things by accident.
    • Eaglen is a coward and usually hides in Mason's lab coats/anywhere convenient, as long as Mason is around and he's away from the danger.

Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?

  • Real Name: Dinah Walsh
  • Superhero Name: Dyna-Mite
  • Age: 19
  • Appearance: In costume. A slim yet athletically-built young woman with long chestnut hair, bright green eyes, and olive skin, with an everyday fashion sense drifting somewhere between street casual and biker chic. Tends to wear a poker face most of the time, but has a penchant for breaking out into large expressions when aptly prompted. Wears her costume beneath her street clothes whenever possible, as it is the only outfit she owns which is protected by her invulnerability in the same way as her. Stands at a height of 5'5".
  • Costume: Dinah's costume is reflective of her preferred street attire, and is a two-piece skintight affair made of a black Spandex material with light blue trimmings. Connected to this suit are a pair of tough boots and a pair of fingerless gloves, along with an integrated utility belt for smaller belongings and a stylised D/M logo on her lapel. Proudly wears her midriff bared, for no other reason than style points (and the added extra emphasis of her invulnerability).
  • Personality: Dinah is something of a darkhorse in almost every facet of her being, acting unassuming and sometimes not even contributing to a social gathering unless she's actively being engaged with by someone else. However, Dinah likes to catch others off-guard with her explosive energy and sudden bursts of excitement and enthusiasm; breaking out into dance or boisterously teasing her allies for no other reason than her own amusement. Dinah likes to perform in front of people—whether they are her friends or enemies—and can come across especially cocky in battle against goons and thugs due to her nigh-invulnerable nature to most conventional weaponry. When the chips are down, however, Dinah snaps into focus and does her best to excel, knowing when to differentiate her work from play and revealing a deeply caring and self-sacrificing heart behind all of her flirtatious bravado. Dinah's fractured relationship with her family has also made her rather hesitant to reciprocate close friendships with others as quickly as they might want her to, and she chooses to keep a reputation of being flaky and unusual in order to distance herself from people's expectations and thus prevent them from putting her in a box to be judged. By remaining esoteric and ostentatious in her mannerisms and personality, Dinah intends to make a mark on other people's lives without necessarily doing the hard part in opening up and getting to know them beyond the superficial pleasantries.
  • Hero Class: Psychic, though Dinah has likely registered herself as a Classic type due to her false perception of her powers.
  • Powers:
    • Tactile-Telekinesis: The ability to manipulate things mentally through physical contact. Dinah's perception of her powers as being that of a common superhuman means that almost every part of this ability is unconscious, and as such it currently only gives her abilities one would expect from a typical Flying Brick. Thanks to a near-skintight psychokinetic field around her body (one which her costume thankfully accommodates for), Dinah's TTK can mimic superhuman strength up to 10 tons in weight, superhuman speed up to 120 mph on the ground, subsonic flight up to 500 mph, and almost complete invulnerability to conventional bullets, blades, and most forms of concussive trauma—though anything in the ballpark of a direct hit by a train or a tank shell will most certainly knock her unconscious, and repeated impacts from a single strong force can eventually rupture through her barrier. Due to her powers being psychic, Dinah does not get physically tired when using them, but in contrast gets mentally drained—fatigue, ingested drugs, sickness, or excess stress can all weaken her powers and drain her stamina, and she is also vulnerable to energy-based attacks and extreme temperatures focused against her body (e.g. freeze rays and plasma beams); both of which can tear through her barrier like it's nothing. Dinah's TTK has the added bonus of subconsciously holding together large objects that she lifts so they do not crumble under their own weight, as well as enabling her to tear chunks out of the ground or hold people and objects safely with only one hand, along with giving her the ability to filter out toxic fumes subconsciously from around her face so that she does not inhale poisonous gases. All of these telekinetic oddities completely slip through Dinah's notice, and she simply believes that this kind of super-toughness is normal for superheroes instead of considering the fact that she may be psychic.
  • Gear: On her person and in her utility belt, Dinah carries a durable phone, a portable flashlight for late-night patrols (which can hook onto her hip while she's in her suit in order to leave her hands free) and a so-far completely unused domino mask that she originally intended to wear with her costume. Outside of this, Dinah always keeps a backup suit someplace safe in case her current one is destroyed, and she has so far made six spares for emergency purposes.
  • Background:
    • Born to unknown biological parents and raised by an adoptive family in Chicago, Dinah Walsh had a relatively understated childhood up until an incident in her mid-teens, wherein an unexpected comet burned up in the atmosphere one night and bathed an entire region in an unrecorded type of radiation. Whether this comet was a spacecraft, a remnant of a distant world, or simply an unexplainable space anomaly was never fully understood, but reports of superhuman activity spiked in the city the day following this incident. Among these reports were of a 15-year-old girl diving in front of a bus on her walk to school to protect her schoolmate who had been caught in its headlights, and even as other superhuman reports continued to flood in, no one could have anticipated what the end result would be.
    • Over the course of the next few weeks, more and more reports regarding the same girl and her superhuman abilities poured in. Culminating in a bombastic surprise entrance through a wall during a bank robbery, Chicago soon had a new public media darling in the form of the sensational Dyna-Mite, with journalists quick to label her "The Super-Girl of Chicago." Despite shying away from the public eye for the next three years, and managing to perform superheroics without getting caught in any interviews or sponsorships, Dyna-Mite made an explosive comeback after announcing in an unexpected TV interview that she was moving out of the country along with her family, citing troubles at home and psychosomatic effects on her powers as the reason for her refusing media attention and her hasty retreats from the scene after every day saved.
    • Though Dinah chose not to mention where she and her family were moving to, there have been recent sightings in Fuji City of a familiar-looking superheroine dressed in black and blue spandex fighting crime in a very similar fashion to Chicago's Dyna-Mite, and rumours are abounding that due to the close proximity of these sightings to Silver Academy, she may in fact end up Japan's Dyna-Mite very soon. In whatever case, Dinah has not lost her sense of spectacle and performance, and intends to inject her own unique spin on heroism into the existing Japanese superhero culture.
  • Etc:
    • Dinah's at-home troubles are more severe than she expressed in her single interview before leaving Chicago, as her status as the only one positively affected by the radiation from the comet in her family acted as a rift between her and her adopted parents and siblings. With her older sister developing a debilitating illness as a result of the radiation, and her father developing a power set consisting of poison thorns that react to touch, Dinah has become the unfortunate focal point of the family's frustrations, as her more expressly useful powers and overconfident attitude are taken as insensitive by her parents and siblings.
    • Dinah originally intended to wear a domino mask with her suit, but after putting it on without said mask and showing her family how it looked, her parents and siblings couldn't recognise her face and were stunned by how different she seemed. Though Dinah decided that this was due to a multitude of reasons—wearing her hair down, adopting a different stance, and wearing a style that she usually didn't—this was actually because of a low-level usage of telekinesis that Dinah was unconsciously using on herself thanks to her latent psychic powers; subtly shifting her facial features so as to look like a different person. Thanks to this application of her powers, Dinah has no need to obscure her identity with a mask.
    • Theme Song.

Everyone's accepted.

  • Real Name: Yui Bushida
  • Superhero Name: Pink Pretty Cutie (Prefers Toxic Death Metal, but saying it makes her powers go wonky.)
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: Rocking that sukeban. Stands at 6'3.
  • Costume: "PEACE AND LOVE! CHANGE PINK! PRETTY CUTIE ON!"''
    • Her costume is more than cosmetic. Not only does her hair grow to her ankles and turn pink, but she loses several inches. In Purupuru's words, "short is cute."
  • Personality: In contrast to her outfit, Yui is grim and determined. She's cocky, reckless and more than a little intimidating, always solving problems with her fists. A born cynic, her stubborn nature creates more problems than it solves, but she has a shred of compassion. If someone gets close enough, she'll lower her barriers, revealing a gentle soul under her tough exterior. Being around children makes her soften up too. Since receiving her powers, she's attempted to change her outlook, but it's harder than it looks.
  • Hero Class: Magical Girl.
  • Powers: Yui has the standard magic girl powerset. She has moderate strength and agility, even some small regeneration, but her staff holds her true power. She can swap her clothes at will, but she can't use her staff without her costume.
  • Gear: Yui wields the Love Staff, a mysterious rod that gives her magical abilities. It can shoot pink beams of energy or explosive heart blasts, create heart-shaped shields and lets her float through the air with ease. She can heal wounds and quell negative emotions or share positive emotions with others. (This can go the other way around.) She can speak telepathically and teleport long distances, though this requires concentration. The catch is it runs on love and friendship. Optimism and cuteness help too. Yui has struggled to embody these qualities. Because of this, her powers tend to fluctuate. The more she fits the typical magical girl mould, the stronger her staff becomes, but it's been a rough adjustment.
  • Background: Before receiving her powers, Yui was your typical Japanese delinquent. She Used to Be a Sweet Kid, but her parents were crushed by kaiju. She was plopped in the orphanage with few hopes of getting adopted, her heart slowly hardening over the years. She fell in with local street gangs, barely graduating as her grades plummeted. She gained a reputation as a hellraiser, stomping anyone who so much as looked at her funny. But deep down, she had a heart of gold. She wasn't a saint, but she always let innocents off easy. Perhaps that was what the Gods saw in her. She nearly skipped college when a blobby little thing fell on her doorstep. Calling itself Purupuru, it told her she was meant for greater things. The Gods chose her to be their messenger, battling evil and spreading the word of love and peace! It didn't say which Gods, but the message was clear. Yui thought it was a joke, but after saving a kid from certain death, she knew it wasn't. She's sceptical of the whole love and peace thing, but she has a chance to make a difference.
  • Etc: Purupuru is more than a mascot. Using its special abilities, it can sense evil and point Yui in the right direction. It's encouraged Yui to be more optimistic and cheerful, but their heart's in the right place. They've steadily grown closer, but there are things it's not telling.
    • Do not compliment her costume. Or her hair. It's a necessary evil, but she hasn't gotten used to it.
    • Whenever she uses her staff, she tends to sparkle. It's not harmful, but it's no less embarrassing.

  • Real Name: Tsurugi Kurenai
  • Superhero Name: Armed Fighter Kiba
  • Age: 19
  • Appearance: A gutless punk like you will never beat me.
  • Personality: Tsurugi is, in his own words, a no good punk. He is abrasive, hotheaded, stubborn and doesn't seem to have much respect for rules. Even so, he cares in his own way, and puts a lot of effort into becoming a hero worthy of the mantle of Kiba, as he still feels like he doesn't deserve it. He is big on family, and if pressed, he proves to admire his mother a lot. But still can be too much of a meddler for his own good. And always make sure to treat the deceased properly in front of him.
  • Hero Class: Henshin Hero mainly, although he has some Spirit Hunter on him.
  • Powers: By himself, he can see and interact with ghosts and similar entities. Has some knowledge of the matter and is a tough brawler and biker.
    • Once transformed into Kiba, his strength and speed are increased, his body is covered in armor and each form makes one particular sense stronger, with Okami giving him a more powerful sense of smell, Iruka increasing his hearing and Karasu allowing for better sight. The armors also have the power to purify the beings they fight, particularly corrupted ghosts.
      • Okami Form: The wolf, and his overall go-to form. It's the physically stronger form, and is able to make three copies of itself.
      • Iruka Form: The dolphin: While on land, it doesn't seem too impressive, it's made to go underwater and can swim at high speeds. It also possesses a powerful sonic attack.
      • Karasu Form: The crow: Not very durable, but it's capable of deploying wings to fly and can deploy feathers that reflect energy.
  • Gear: Tsurugi derives his power from a special, magical belt known as the KibaRiser. It looks old-fashioned, and the buckle resembles a golden gate with a keyhole in the side. Inserting the Key is necessary to transform and activate finishing moves.
    • He also possesses three golden keys known as Soul Keys, each containing the power of a different animal soul. Gin the silver wolf, Umi the dolphin and Kuro the crow. The three accompany Tsurugi and help him out. Gin is aloof with most people, but he and Tsurugi understand each other really well, Umi is playful, but he and Kuro just don't get along, and has to stop him from starting shit.
    • Spirit Arms: Three special weapons he can summon when transformed, are the GaruruBreaker, a claw, the KairyuPierce, a harpoon, and SoraShooter, an energy crossbow. While these weapons synergize better with a particular form, he could get any combination, and the Keys can be used on them for bigger attacks.
    • Soul Runner: An old but still reliable and heavily modified motorcycle. Fast and moving like a thing possessed, even running up walls, and armed with a cannon in front. The Keys can modify it to even fly or for it to run over water.
  • Background: Tsurugi is the eldest son of a family that used to be ghost hunters. During the seventies, his grandfather, Yaiba Yagami, alongside some of his allies designed the KibaRiser and made a pact with a few ghosts to handle a threat that was corrupting souls, alive and departed creating monsters known as Kusatta. Over the years, Yaiba fought to protect the people of Japan and even beyond. But time claims everyone, so he was forced to give up the title and passed the torch to his daughter, Yumi. Yumi had been a good heroine for years, and even managed to marry and have children, starting with Tsurugi. Tsurugi was, while good hearted, temperamental, and got into many fights over the years, including punching a few ghosts causing trouble. Eventually, he started keeping his distance at home, and keeping the punks in line, even if he was saddled with a reputation. But it all changed one day when he was caught up in a Kusatta attack, and his mother, who had too many battles back to back, and barely managed to use the Soul Runner to save her once the armor disappeared on her. Taking the KibaRiser himself, he accepted the fate of becoming the third Armed Fighter and defeated the monster. Since then, he has been working as hard as he can to be a proper successor, even if he is still rough.
Etc: Still has a fondness for graffiti art, and racing on his bike. He might get a bit snarky about the names of his gear and the like, but for the most part just shrugs it off.

CHARACTER SHEET

  • Real Name: Emanuel Cross
  • Superhero Name:' Relic
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Emanuel
  • Costume: Self explanatory. Henshin Heroes, Magical Girls and Idols should have costumes, but for everyone else, it's optional. For Super and Real Robots, the mini-mechs serve as a costume.
  • Personality: Emanuel is a man who cares deeply for only two things, advancement and the betterment of mankind. However despite these surface level noble goals he can be ruthless with what he does to achieve both of these things, through he reserves the majority of that for himself.
  • Hero Class: Science Hero
  • Powers: "Experiment log...thirty three. After last sessions abysmal failure I'm currently lacking a left arm and a good portion of other redundant organs, meaning that its time to take that coveted next step and finally attempt to attach the scaled down Kaiju limb. If this is my last message then make sure that my research notes are published in a reputable journal."

"Experiment log thirty four, I'm back in business."

  • Biological Genius- Even at a young age Emanuel was obsessed with living creatures, admiring the form and function of life above all else. This eventually blossomed into an obsession with creating an 'ideal next stage' for humanity that would allow them to overcome any future trials. As such he has experimented on his body to a mind numbing extent, 'improving' each part of it until his very body was a living biological weapon, with parts taken from defeat Kaiju, alien, and mechanical creatures he was either able to steal or buy off black market auctions. However all of his tools are experimental and may not work as needed at any given time. But with failure comes advancement.
  • Gear:

-Biological Activators: Various chemical concotions meant to activate dormant abilities throughout his body, current carries three specific types for combat, defense, and deactivation.

-Bioaugmented weapons: Tools and weapons either grown from or repurposed from his experiments with exotic lifeforms.

  • Background: The first time Emanual noticed that there where things he couldn't do was when he saw a frog make a vertical leap that even with a running start he couldn't match. The second was when a Kaiju tore its way through his normal life and pinned him under most of a building. By the time he was rescued he learned not only was he an orphan, but the faces of neighbors and friends had been replaced by memorial photos. Human life was fragile, and the destruction that reigned over most of Japan proved that more and more each day. So he dedicated himself to turning the tables on the harsh world he had been cast into. He would remain human, unlike those who used magic, technology, or other esoteric means to gain their own unique powers. As such he began his first experiments, using notes of long past villains and heroes to tinker with his own body.

Harder skin, extra and improved organs, biological weapons installed into the body, anything and everything was on the table for him, no matter the pain that it might cause. And it did, because each day is a constant struggled against mind numbing agony with what he has done to himself. And yet the results are clear to see, he went from an unimpressive young man to a living weapon. And he is still far from 'perfect'.

Real Name: Hyotoshi (or "Hyo," to keep it simple.)

Superhero Name: "Rebel Buster." The name is meant to invoke the team he and his kin formerly fought against.

Age: Hyotoshi has been around for about 30 years, though he looks about 20 appearance-wise. Expressionals do not age the way humans do.

Appearance: A Japanese man with a poofy afro. He has a lithe build, but toned arms. A noticeably-ornate earring pierces his left ear. He tends to grip the ring when troubled. He's typically draped in a black-colored uniform with green stripes across its arms and legs. On the upper-right of his ensemble is a decorative emblem that vaguely resembles an elephant's head – the emblem of the Expressionals. The Emblem is detachable; he simply chooses to keep it there.

Costume: In his Transformed State, Hyotoshi is a green-bodied, twin-horned, armored warrior that wields a spear. The form has various mechanical stripes and lines across its undersuit, most of which align with the ones on his civilian uniform. The Emblem used to transform enlarges in size and becomes the form's chest-piece.

Personality:

When he was first transformed into a general, Hyotoshi and his allies were practically-mindless soldiers that served with undying loyalty and fervent patriotism for the Expressional cause. They looked down on Humans by proxy of being lesser and cared not for the value of life or what it meant to be unique.

However, his rival Yanma sparked...something...in Hyotoshi that caused him to develop brief and intense displays of overpowering emotion. He found these new "feelings" to be wonderful and wanted to learn more despite the discouragement from his superiors. His hatred of humans also lessened during this time as he and his colleagues acclimated to the bizarreness of human life.

Of course, this acclimation is very, very imperfect. What you have in the current age is a very bizarre, spontaneous individual whose moods are wild and weird. He puts on the act of a "party dude" and generally tries to be upbeat, though it's not very hard to detect as a farce.

Hero Class: For all intents and purposes, Hyo classifies as a Henshin Hero.

Powers:

  • Heightened Abilities: All Expressionals are created as warriors able to go toe-to-toe with Henshin Heroes, being anti-heroic monster-generals. Their abilities magnify when then enter their Transformed State – each of which is tailored to their personal fighting style. Expressionals can, in theory, wield the Braces of other Expressionals (gaining their armor and battle-forms), though this is a heavily frowned-upon practice seen as a disgrace by those of the Merge.

  • Spearmanship: Hyo is an expert when it comes to spear-fighting, given it’s what he's designed to do.

  • Emotional Resonance: Expressionals rely on the power of human emotions to survive. This has the side-effect of giving them the ability to detect the moods of other beings like living mood rings.

Gear:

  • Hyoto Emblem: The Emblem on Hyo's uniform is also his transformation device. When the emblem is hit or brushed against, this causes it to fly forward and overtake him, allowing him to enter his psuedo-heroic monster form; of which the emblem serves as the chest-plate.

  • Grabitone Spear: Hyo's lance. The Lance itself is made of Merginium, a material unique to the Merge realm that allows it to fight on-par with other heroic weapons. The spear has no hidden abilities of its own, though it can split apart into two smaller ones for variety.

Background:

The Expressionals (Or "Hyoto"/"Expression People") are a species of non-humans that live in a sub-dimension known as "The Merge." The Expressionals rely on human emotions to survive, putting them and their actions in tandem with humanity – Particularly Japan, the chaos within serving as an ample food-source to stabilize their realm. However, their opinion of humanity is more on-par with cattle than living beings, which makes them antagonistic to most they encounter.

The Expressionals as a faction have fluttered about between being heroes and villains – notably, they worked with the Underground Kingdom of Mencia on diplomatic campaigns during the reign of their 30th king while having also fought various other heroic and villainous factions over time. During the era of their 70th Queen, the Expressionals' primary enemies were the Dragon Busters, a group of masked heroes that fought monsters created as side-effects of Merge-anomalies.

It was during this point that Hyotoshi first sortied alongside his unit and met his rival Yanma, whose overwhelming shows of emotion captivated something like him, who at one point was little more than a static, almost robotic battle-tool. Hyotoshi and his fellow generals were slowly enthralled by their enemies as they fought against them, developing their own quirks over time. Hyotoshi learned to follow his heart and embrace the extremities of emotions...regardless of what they entailed or caused. He and his group wanted to obey their orders and do their species proud, but humanity was just...so fascinating. Why treat it so badly?

The rest of his unit succumbed to peer pressure and stuck with the Expressional hierarchy. But Hyotoshi wasn't having it. When the Expressional Queen sought to control the entire world's emotions with a dark device, Hyotoshi worked alongside the Dragon Busters and put an end to her plan; defecting to their cause at the cost of his former colleagues turning on him.

In the current era, Hyotoshi found himself at a loss. He was no longer an Expressional as he knew it, and yet the Dragon Busters had gone missing. All alone and desperate for answers, his only recourse was to embrace his rebellion in-full and apply for the Silver Academy.

Why were humans worth the trouble of protecting? Why were Yanma and the Busters so passionate about fighting? And why have they stopped? To be a hero...to be a villain...How did these things matter? These were questions he could not find the answers to. And if he could find those answers...maybe he could teach his friends, too? The Queen was doubtlessly still out there.

He didn't know if it was principal or emotion guiding him, but he knew he had to do something. No sitting around!

Etc:

  • Hyotoshi is a major Expy of Sonoza and the Noto from Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. Hyotoshi's backstory also has various similarities.

  • Hyotoshi's relationship with his former colleagues is weird in the current day. He still recognizes them as his friends and they in turn, though their differing sides only really allows them to interface in the heat of combat, making their encounters awkward and tense.

  • The "Shi" at the end of Hyo’s name is the Japanese romanization of “four,” marking him as the fourth member of his old unit. All Expressionals follow this Numeric name-theming.

  • His armored battle form is based on the titular mecha from Daitetsujin 17; keeping in-line with the Noto generals he's an expy of having forms based on old Toei properties. The form itself does not follow 17's color-scheme (nor is it bulky like a mech; being a straightforward suit), though the shape of his horns and the aesthetic of its Grabitone Spear are in-line with the "look" of the robot.

And for a long time, it was simply enough to encompass the Gates and feast upon the glowing eternity of stars that will never be known. But then it got bored, and decided to see what it would be like to devour a planet. That planet ended up being Earth and its arrival happened in those now-lost 90s. To the heroes of that era, Feol'ctaean was yet another horrific existential threat that they could thankfully defeat but for Feol themself the experience was outright confounding. They had been wounded, by mortals. This wasn't something that was supposed to happen!
    • Mortals would say Feol pondered the matter for a long time, because decades are a long time to them. But those who exist on the same perception of time as Feol itself would say that the thinking was rash and impulsive. Feol just had to figure out how mortal beings could accomplish this and thus turned its inwards gaze once more upon the Earth to seek a host of flesh to walk amid humanity.
    • It found a corpse, though one only just expired, in a singular bedroom in the apartments of Tokyo. The entire place was dark and the only room in the place that was not covered in the detritus of cheap food and hastily spent money was the bedroom without the corpse in it. Feol didn't really know what transpired, but a shell of flesh was a shell of flesh.
    • It settled within, hollowing enough space to puppet this shell and began taking stock of the items left around. Mostly detritus, but scattered around were well-loved literatures and it took the time to regard them in search of information... And it found so much it was looking for, for these books were stories of dashing heroes rendered in word and image and Feol devoured the light that reflected off their print and learned the stories. It knew how it could have been defeated, this concept of heroism that could surpass all odds... Feol needed to know it in action and maybe attain it for itself and with this new flesh it would be so easy to emulate the girls within the pages of these books... So she did.
    • Now cloaked in flesh and wielding her own strength under the auspices of a Magical Girl, Feol went to the Academy to seek training and to learn the essence of the possibility-breaking power of heroism.
  • Etc:

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Real Name: Ba Ke Nook

Hero Name: Master of Fortune

Age: Around 18.

Appearance: Resembles the classic tanuki spirit look, an anthropomorphic tanuki around 4 feet tall, and rather chubby. Wears a straw hat and a golden rosary bead necklace.

Costume: Keeps the straw hat and rosary beads. Gains a face mask that covers his mouth and a dark bodysuit akin to a classical ninja. On his chest, there is a small, yellow moon symbol.

Personality: Laid Back and somewhat of a jokester. Likes to play tricks on people he finds to be full of themselves. He's also a bit of a pack rat and specifically really enjoys collecting magical items. Is slightly out of touch when it comes to technology and modern slang.

Hero Class: Yokai Watcher

Powers:

True Disguise: Ba Ke can shapeshift to disguise himself. While he can’t change into specific people, he can take on an appearance as though he belongs somewhere, like a security guard at a high security area.

Object Shapechange: Ba Ke can change most objects into other ones, with the main limitation that it mainly works on things that can be feasibly carried. How long it lasts is dependent on Ba Ke’s proximity to the object: It will wear off eventually if he’s not nearby, but it can last infinitely if he has the object on him. Ba Ke often does this to turn most of his equipment into leaves for ease of storage.

Flutter: Ba Ke can, through some kind of magic, float slowly downwards in the air. He can fly, but needs a running start to do so, and can only do so for a short time.

Statue Form: Moreso another application of Ba Ke's shapeshifting. Ba Ke turns into a statue of himself, gaining immense resistance to incoming attacks.

Gear:

Jizo Straw Hat: Ba Ke's straw hat. Despite appearances, it is very durable, and mends incoming damage it takes, making it a useful shield.

Gourd of Orochi: Ba Ke's large gourd (imagine something like the size and shape of Suika’s gourd from Touhou). Can produce sake seemingly from nowhere. This sake tastes terrible, but is very strong and also very flammable.

Miracle Mallet: Probably not the real thing, but a possible imitation of the mallet. Can be used to change the size of things, including Ba Ke, although this has a bit of time limit.

108 Golden Balls: Ba Ke's necklace. Despite seeming like a normal necklace, the beads can be semi-freely manipulated by Ba Ke, such as turning it into a makeshift whip, or even a projectile weapon.

Background: Was originally one member of a decently large clan of tanuki spirits, until a group of malevolent kitsunes attacked, using magic to turn them into stone. After a long time passed, a passerby whose origins were unknown, but knew of the curse, took pity on Ba Ke's statue, the last remaining one, and brought him back to life.

  • Real Name: Takuro Nakajima

  • Superhero Name: Monster Masher

  • Age: 23

  • Appearance: Has black hair and is in good shape due to all his physical combat. Tends to wear collared shirts and long paints. Has a silver disk embedded at on his spine at the base of his neck, which upon pressing changes him into his costume.

  • Costume: Black bodysuit with gold detailing and silver straps to hold sample containers. Hands are uncovered to utilize powers. Wears face concealing helmet with a monster mouth painted on it.

  • Personality: Cheerful and outgoing, Takuro tends to get along with others easy enough. He's also very creative, particularly with finding new ways to use his powers. While protective, Takuro isn't extremely aggressive, though when he uses his power more, this changes for the worse.

  • Hero Class: Henshin

  • Powers: By grabbing a sample of Kaiju genetic material (skin, blood, muscle, etc), Takuro can morph into a human/Kaiju “Monster Form”. While his forms are always smaller and weaker in every aspect than the creature he got the sample from, Takuro becomes much larger and stronger, and can use all the abilities the creature has, while retaining his human mind. This ability also works with Mencian battle beasts and Galaxian Terrorzons, though their mechanical components aren’t copied. Additionally, Takuro can grab multiple samples at once or grab more while in a Monster Form to create “Hybrid Forms”, with the strength and abilities stacking with each additional monster, with no evident upper limit. ‘’However’’, while assuming a Monster Form has no ill effects, Takuro becomes more aggressive when in a Hybrid Form, and it gets worse the more creatures are mixed together. To ensure he doesn’t go out of control, Takuro only uses two Kaiju Hybrid Forms on a regular basis, with anything higher only getting used if the situation gets desperate. The forms Takuro can assume with his current samples include:

    • Fire Lizard: Has a tail, sharp claws, and rocky, spiny scales. Can breath fire.

    • Psych Moth: Fuzzy body with sand coloration, and has large wings for flight. Can release a gas that cause hallucinations that can't be controlled, but intensity of the vision gets worse the more gas the affected breath in.

    • Bone Crawler: Incredibly thin and long limbs, with extra legs growing out of the shoulders and sides of torso. Covered in a bone-white exoskeleton. It's light weight lets this form climb up walls, and is surprisingly dexterous.

    • Crystal Turtle: Body gets covered in purple crystals, with the highest concentration being on the back. Highly resistant to damage, but also heavy and slow.

    • Gigawatt Kraken: Has four tentacles for arms, which can deliver electric shocks on contact. Can breath underwater and is a great swimmer. Can't survive on land indefinitely, and is only used when water is nearby.

    • Muck Gibbon: Has incredibly long arms, and can deform into pile of muck. Can have muck cut off without pain, but can't regenerate. Also smells horrible.

    • Poison Centaur: Has sharp claws and four legs. Can spit a toxin that weakens anyone it touches. Smallest and weakest of all forms.

  • Gear: Takuro carries pieces of Kaiju genetic material in special containers, which keep them preserved and give him immediate access to abilities he needs, with his costume having extra containers if he gets another sample to store.

  • Background: Born just before the Lost Decade ended, Takuro was found with no sign of his parents, and the only item left with him being the silver disk now on his neck. Given the nature of his powers and the timing of his birth, there is likely a connection between the disk and the Kaiju, but what is unknown. Adopted, Takuro had a happy childhood, with his missing past not affecting him... until his town became the site of a Kaiju attack. His home was destroyed in the rampage, but the disk made it out unharmed, and Takuro was compelled to activate it, which led to him discovering his power and driving away the Kaiju. He then went on to try and help deal with the Kaiju threat, as well as collect more samples. However, this ended up leading to him running afoul with the Kosmos Conglomerate when he tried to take a skin sample from a Kaiju corpse the group had blocked off, but when the group discovered why he wanted the sample, it was decided that Takuro would be sent to Silver Academy.

Real Name: Lanius "Lane" Lakers

Superhero Name: Wyrmcaller

Age: 18

Appearance: It's not dyed.

Costume: Lane's costume consists of a blue blazer with a raised collar and that flares outward at the waist, under which he wears a tight white shirt and black trousers. Three black leather belts are worn around his neck, abdomen and waist respectively, whilst white belts adorn his right arm, left arm and right forearm. The left forearm is covered by a plating of metallic scales, in order to block some attacks. He also wears blue sneakers with white soles.

Personality: Lane is laid-back but passionate, with a strong sense of humour that's ironic but not sarcastic, with a favourite flavour of his being exaggerated boasting of his and others' qualities. He has a tendency to zone out at times, has a forgetful streak, is ooccasionally lazy and irresponsible, and is in general a poor listener. Despite this, he is a straight-A student and above average in terms of logical and academic skills. Lane is averse to physical effort and fears many things, like pain, authority, shouting, and difficult conversations. However, with support, he can rise to the occasion. Lane prefers to ask questions first and shoot later, but that doesn't mean he won't shoot. He is surprisingly knowledgable with computers and uses the internet often, and as a result of having already seen the worst it has to offer, he is not easily grossed out.

Hero Class: Summoner

Powers:

Dragoncalling: Lane possesses a deck of "Dragoncallers" trading cards, and his spiritual bond with some of these cards is so great that he can manifest the monsters to real life to fight for him. With enough focus, Lane's spiritual energy can manifest as any monster in his deck, but the monsters he can summon most easily are:

  • Dogwyrm, the Wyrmdog - 50% dog, 50% wyrm, 100% Lane's best friend. This beast's long, multi-legged body is covered in brown, shaggy hair, while its facial features include yellow eyes, sharp teeth, and a long, slobbery tongue. Dogwyrm is fiercely protective of its owner and possesses powerful jaws and a nose that can track scents across incredible distances.

  • Armourscale Warrior - A 7-foot-tall wingless wyrm warrior whose scales are tough enough to function as armour. Its weapon of choice is a whip sword. Occasionally, it sheds its scales, and it may give them to a trusted companion to make into their own armour.

  • Benevolent Bonething - A large floating serpentine wyrm skeleton that, despite being animated by dark magic, hates evil as much as anyone. It can fire off shards of bone at enemies, piercing their skin or pinning them to the wall by clothes.

Gear:

Trading Cards: Lane's physical deck of Dragoncallers trading cards. He's never without it.

Backstory: Since birth, Lanius has had powerful spiritual energies residing deep within him. These remained untapped until his 13th birthday, when his family was forced for economic reasons to move from England to Japan. All Lane had to call his very own was the deck of Dragoncaller trading cards he'd traded for and bought with his own money.

Lane felt much like an outsider in this new and unfamiliar place, and often found himself longing for companionship, with nothing but his cards to keep him company. It was on one of these days when the spiritual power within him awakened for the first time, allowing his cards to take the form of true friends.

One day, after having to stay late at school due to forgotten homework, Lane was walking home in the dark. He was paying no attention to his surroundings, leaving him perfectly vulnerable to being shoved into an alley by a criminal. Terrified, with no money on him, and with a knife to his neck, Lane shut his eyes and thought of whom he loved most; his wyrms.

When he opened his eyes, what he saw was not the Pearly Gates (or the fires of hell), but instead the friendly face of Dogwyrm looking up at him, as well as 4 criminals splayed on the ground, beating and bleeding from various places. At this moment, Lane instantly understood the importance of his abilities. Wyrms were not just his friends, but powerful beasts, and Lane knew that whether they were used to stop or further evil was up to him.

Whilst keeping his powers secret and doing nothing was a tempting option for a lover of relaxation like Lane, he knew that working against evil so those who would be terrorised by it could have their peace was one of the noblest things he could do.

By Lane's 18th birthday, he had gotten pretty experienced at the whole hero thing. Modifying his old school uniform to use as a costume (it wasn't so much about hiding his identity as looking cool), he mostly used the power of wyrms to stop small crimes, bank robberies and the like. He learned about Silver Academy and resolved to go there to kick his heroism into a higher gear, and fight the hard fight today for an easier tomorrow.

Misc:

Lane's strategy when playing Dragoncallers is to boost the defense of his cards, then use cards that swap attack and defense to transform high protections into powerful hits.

Dragoncallers is a semi-popular card game, equivalent to IRL Magic: the Gathering where it doesn't have any other media backing it up (barring crossovers) so its fanbase is entirely people who like card games because they're card games.

Lane totally has a British accent.

Ay, you! It's Gold, and I'm noble!

  • Real Name: Felicity Shepherd
  • Superhero Name: Fluffy, just Fluffy, please and thank you!
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance: Felicity is a young woman standing at 5'6", wearing short and curly snowy blonde hair cut just above her shoulders and looking out on the world with light grey eyes that still nonetheless spark with energy and optimism. Has some toned muscle, though it's subtle and easy to miss if you're not looking for it.
  • Costume: Fluffy's main costume is mainly a sports tank top with shorts, both lined with soft and fuzzy hemming in keeping with her sheep theme. She wears equally fuzzy sneakers and fingerless gloves (actually stopping just before the first joint), along with elbow and knee guards. Of course, she wears a headband with sheep ears and her shorts have a little sheep tail protruding from it.
  • Personality: Bubbly and fun loving, effervescent to the point of seeming ditzy, Felicity is a social butterfly who loves interacting with and being around people, wearing her Fluffy persona as a child friendly hero and store mascot that brings in fans. (In private, Felicity likes to be a little flirty and teasing as well, but she tries to reign it in in public.) This has a way of disarming people where they may not take her as seriously, and every bit of that joyous personality is genuine - but it'd be a mistake to underestimate her just because she's chipper. Felicity is cleverer than she lets on, taking in every detail even when it seems like she might not be paying attention, and despite being a goofball she's studious - you can't make the world a better place on good feels alone, after all. (But it helps.)
  • Hero Class: Classic
  • Powers: Fluffy is a cloud themed superheroine, manipulating wind, water, ice, and lightning to her advantage. She can't freely control the weather, but what she can do is channel these elemental energies through her body, freezing or zapping things with a touch or controlling gusts of wind and small bodies of water with a flick of her hand. Since her powers are most effective at close range, she's trained a lot in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Gear: Fluffy is not heavily armed from all appearances but her costume engineer (and mother) added some features to her outfit to complement her powers. When an electrical current runs through her gloves, the knuckles harden and fuse into a steel plate to add extra oomph to Fluffy's punches, and it also serves as a conductor for her lightning. Since Fluffy can freeze the ground not just with her hands but with her feet, her shoes can deploy skates to slide across the ice or raise their surface traction so she can ground herself. The final feature, and a mainstay Fluffy's costumes have had since the beginning, is "Super Fluffy." When Felicity shouts "Super Fluffy!" a mass of protective, fire resistant and impact absorbent synthetic foam/poof deploys and envelops her body. Recent mods have allowed her to deploy this fluff around specific portions of her body before retracting back into the dispensers hidden within her costume, and she carries a few capsules of the stuff "just in case," along with a small water bottle for her hydromancy (and general hydration).
  • Background: A mysterious* transfer student from a mysterious land* (not actually that mysterious), Felicity is a superheroine coming in from overseas. She had actually spent the last several years out of school, roaming the world and dispensing order and justice as a nomad after some issues at her old school convinced her she wouldn't be able to solve any problems while tied down to a system. However, seeing the chaos that spread throughout Japan has made her reconsider this rogue mentality and so she applied for Silver Academy, knowing she couldn't solve things on her own either. "A single drop may raise the sea, but to raise all boats we need a tide." Or something?
  • Etc.: Felicity's mother, Nightingale Shepherd, is her sponsor, her costume designer, and the owner of the stuffed animal chain "Fluff N Stuff Plushie Emporium." No locations have opened in Japan due to the ongoing chaos. And no, she will not be explaining where she learned her super costume engineering. "It's just a gift," she says with a shrug.

  • Real Name: Homura Tanaka (going by Western naming order)
  • Superhero Name: Demon King of the Sixth Heaven (Demon King or DK for short)
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance:
  • Costume: A sleek black bodysuit with sharp, armored heels that add a couple feet, golden accents accompanying the same-colored Oda clan emblem that rests on the chest, a very long pointed gaudy golden collar that rests on the right and a giant, flowing crimson cape. Homura also has a scarlet Oni mask with black highlights that she wears with this costume.
  • Personality:
    • Homura is very aggressive and loud. She's bold, short-tempered and is easily provoked. However, she doesn't go around picking up fights intentionally, only fighting if someone else throws the first punch at her. She's also stubbornly determined, wanting to achieve her goals in any way possible and will only rest once she does so; the only people with more motivation than her are Shounen Heroes. Despite her brutish behavior, she is quite a capable tactician, being able to come up with decent strategies in battle and analyzing enemies.
    • Homura is a self-admitted Westaboo (yes, she uses that term unironically). She enjoys Western, especially American, culture. She spends her free time binging Western media, particularly enjoying Western comics, video games and rock music. This is why she regularly wears Western clothing and only wears traditional Japanese clothing when ordered to.
    • As Demon King, Homura wants to gain the reputation of a "Terror Hero", a Hero who strikes fear into the hearts of her enemies. Her costume is designed to be intimidating and Homura often makes dramatic, sudden appearances into battles to catch foes off guard. During battle, she'll often fight with brute force and showing little to no mercy. However if a plan of hers calls for more subtlety, she'll be more covert. For the reason why she wants to be a Terror Hero, it's to cash in on the reputation of her past life, Oda Nobunaga, who'd been portrayed as a terrifying and (sometimes literally) demonic warlord. She would've been fine being a villain if it wasn't for the intervention of the Kosmos Conglomerate. Despite this, Homura knows on the inside that Nobunaga was more complex and morally gray than a villain of a black-and-white story he's been painted as. That's to be expected since she was, y'know, actually him at one point.
    • She does not take betrayal well. If she suspects someone is intending to do so, she'll interrogate them harshly until they are able to convince her that they weren't planning to betray her. If someone actually betrays her, Homura will go absolutely berserk and go out of her way to track down the traitor to give them the beating of a lifetime.
  • Hero Class: Summoner with some traits of Isekaied.
  • Powers:
    • Reincarnation of the Fool of Owari or alternatively, I, a Great Daimyo, has Reincarnated as a Street Girl in the Modern Day: Homura Tanaka is the reincarnation of the infamous daimyo from the Sengoku Period, Oda Nobunaga. She possesses his memories and gets flashes of them, willingly or not. Because of her status, she possesses certain abilities and skills. If it wasn't for her Natural Summon, she simply would've been classified as an Isekaied. In fact, said Natural Summon actually boosted these abilities to where they are now.
      • Gunmanship and Swordsmanship: Exactly what they say. Homura is quite skilled with weapons, mainly guns and swords. She is also able to summon them out of thin air and attack enemies right away.
      • Flame Manifestation: Homura can summon flames, whether by herself or with her weapons. She attacks with fire by igniting flames on her blades and the gunpowder blasts from her guns can become explosive. She can also switch into her Hero costume by snapping her fingers and gulfing herself in flames.
      • Fire Resistance: She simply can't get burnt from her own flames and has a rather high heat tolerance. However, it is still possible for her to get burned by fires that she didn't create.
    • Highway to Hell: Homura's Natural Summon spirit. It takes on the form of a giant, obsidian skeleton that emits a crimson light with golden arches on its back. It can reach up to 15 feet tall and it sprouts additional arms the more power it uses (the max is 6), it can summon several guns to fire and light up flames around it. Its presence (even when it's not active) within Homura has boosted her abilities, making her classified as a Summoner. However, the longer this spirit is active, the more of a strain it has on Homura. Thus, Homura will wear herself out during long battles if she insists on using it for extended periods of time.
  • Gear:

    • Tanegashima firearm
    • Replica of the Heshikiri-Hasebe blade
    • Replica of the Dōjigiri Yasutsuna sword
    • Replica of the Kotegiri Masamune sword
  • Background:
    • Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582) was a Daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) who was one of the leading figures of the Sengoku Period. He was the head of the powerful Oda family and declared war on other Daimyo clans in order to unify Japan in the 1560s, making him considered the first "Great Unifier". He came out victorious and became the dominating Daimyo of Japan, overthrowing the Shogun (the de facto ruler of Japan at the time) and dissolving the Ashikaga Shogunate. His rule was renowned for military progress, reforms of Japan's civil government, and improving free trade and fostering the Momoyama art period. However, Nobunaga was ruthless as he mercilessly suppressed those who refused to obey him, including Buddhism who he considered a threat. In 1571, he razed the Enryaku-ji, a long-standing temple of the Tendai Buddhists, to the ground. According to an account from Jesuit Father Luís Fróis, Nobunaga allegedly (and possibly sarcastically) referred to himself as "The Demon King of the Sixth Heaven", a title belonging to Māra, a malignant deity from Buddhism.
    • By 1582, Nobunaga was at his most powerful. He was the strongest warlord and became the de facto leader of Japan. A retainer of Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide, led an army toward Kyoto. While he was supposedly following Nobunaga's orders, Mitsuhide was intending to betray and assassinate him. Knowing that Nobunaga was nearby and at a tea ceremony, thus vulnerable, Mitsuhide ordered his troops to attack at the Honnō-ji temple. On June 21, 1582, Mitsuhide's army attacked the temple where Nobunaga was present before dawn. The attack came to be known as the "Honnō-ji Incident" and Nobunaga and his servants tried resisting the surprise attack but they were overwhelmed. As the troops got closer, Nobunaga decided to commit Seppuku. He reportedly requested his young page, Mori Ranmaru, to burn the temple down so no one can get his decapitated head. Ranmaru obliged and Nobunaga's remains became lost to time, with no one claiming them.
    • Several centuries later, after the Lost Decade concluded, a powerful deity offered Nobunaga, who had been chilling in the afterlife, an offer to be reincarnated. Nobunaga accepted on the sole condition that he'll be reincarnated as a girl. Why? He found the idea amusing. Thus, he was reincarnated into the early 2000's as Tanaka Homura. Homura was reborn into your average middle class family that lived in Kyoto. From a young age, she recalled her memories as Nobunaga but decided to keep it a secret as she wanted to make a name for herself in her current life rather than cash in her past life right away. Starting from middle school, Homura was a delinquent, going against the rules and doing her own thing. It got so bad that she got suspended from a few schools and got in juvenile detention at least once. Along the way, Homura discovered her abilities. While the weapon mastery was already there from her past life, she could also summon weapons and set things on fire, which were obviously powers that Nobunaga didn't have. She was curious why she had those abilities but assumed that it may have something to do with her status as someone who got reincarnated.
    • During her mid teens, Homura felt the need to conquer, rule over something and spread terror (that last one was a side effect of how Nobunaga has been portrayed in the media). However she wasn't remotely close to getting into a political position of power, so after running into a gang member on the streets she made a decision; start up her own gang. She ran away from home, found some fellow delinquents willing to join her and began doing crime. She used her powers to take over other gangs, "unifying" them like she did back then with Japan. She became a feared and respected villain that dominated the gang life in the streets of Kyoto, going until the mantle of Demon King of the Sixth Heaven. Homura enjoyed the power she gained and the terror that she struck into her enemies. Then, when Homura was 20, the second-in-command of her gang, Akagi Shig, attempted to betray her and take her spot. He got his hands on a magical arrow that he shot at Homura. However, besides an "Ayo, WTF?", Homura was completely unphased by the arrow that was now in her chest. With determination to keep her power and anger at the betrayal led to her removing the arrow from her chest and awakening her Natural Summon, who she'll name Highway to Hell. Her original abilities were strengthened and Homura unleashed all hell on Shig.
    • After her Summon's awakening, Homura resumed her crime spree. Eventually, the Kosmos Conglomerate caught wind of her and sent a squad of heroes to deal with her. She tried standing her ground against them but as she was outnumbered by four far more experienced and powerful heroes, she ended up losing and was arrested. One of the heroes, who had a reputation of giving literally everyone a second chance, talked to Homura about using her abilities for good. It took some convincing but eventually Homura decided to become a hero with a compromise that allows her to be a Terror Hero. The Kosmos Conglomerate offered to lift her sentence if she attended Silver Academy, which she did. After some hiccups, Homura is now a student at Silver Academy a year later.
  • Etc:
    • Speaks in red
    • Like Nobunaga, she's bisexual.
    • Whenever someone brings up Buddhism, Homura will silently leave the room in awkwardness.

Name: Midori Kawamura

Superhero Name: Electro-Cute. She's been trying to get it changed to Live Wire, but the paperwork is more fearsome than any monster...

Age: 18

Appearance: Midori is your typical Japanese girl. Black hair, brown eyes, a little on the short side. She has a scar on her cheek from a fall when learning to ride her bike.

Costume: Midori's costume consists of a pink skirt with mountains of overdone frills and pleats, a white top with pink piping and lightning bolts in a red heart, a white cape that almost looks like a cloak, white boots and gloves, and an elegant silver tiara to top the whole thing off.

Hero Class: Magical Girl

Personality: Kimiko puts the 'wise' in 'wiseass'. Being a heroine has forced her to grow up pretty damn quick, but her snarkiness never changed. She's ridiculously brave and never backs down from a challenge, yet she's been known to get in over her head and have some of the bigger-named heroes pull her backside out of the fire.

Powers: Midori's abilities are all themed around lightning and electricity.

Lightning Quick: When transformed, Midori is noticeably faster than most, in terms of both running speed and reflexes. Think Captain America for a good baseline.

Charged Strikes: Midori can channel lightning to enhance her punches and kicks. Notably, this is her only hand-to-hand move; if the fight gets into melee, she's in deep trouble.

Thunderball: Just like you'd expect, Midori throws a ball of lightning at a bad guy.

Thunderstrike: Midori conjures a bolt of electricity from the heavens to strike a foe.

Wrath of the Storm: A heavy-duty, AOE version of Thunderstrike. Her finisher, but it leaves her exhausted and sometimes even returned to her normal form.

Backstory: Until the start of the past summer, Midori could best be described as 'blah'. Nothing to stand out at all. And then, she ran across Spark.

The little lightning yokai was being hounded by some kind of demon- to this day, Midori still doesn't know the details, and all Spark will say is, "We have a history." In any case, she yelled to get the demon's attention, and soon found that her plan had not been properly thought out. To save her, Spark gave her some of his powers, and she was at least able to drive the demon off. A few minor acts of heroism later, and Midori found herself in possession of an invite to Silver Academy.

Other: Spark is best described as a little rainbow-colored butterfly constantly giving off sparks of electricity. He's often crude, but has a good heart. He can communicate telepathically with Midori, but only with her. Otherwise, he has to use his words... which tend to be the kind that get your mouth washed out with soap by your mom.

  • Real Name: Ryusei Oshiro

  • Superhero Name: Officially "Blue Dragon". In practice, though, he doesn't use it. "I'm Ryusei Goddamn Oshiro. I don't need a tacky pseudonym."

  • Age: 21

  • Appearance: Ryusei is a tall and slender young man of eternally composed posture. His black hair is the typical shounen spiky mess, jutting out in ways that defy gravity; one small set of spikes at the front is swept over to form asymmetrical bangs. His eyes are grey-blue, icy in both colour and expression; he rarely smiles, or shows much facial emotion in general.

    • Regardless of the weather, Ryusei invariably wears a thick black jacket with an oversized flared collar, lined with studs and complemented by a pair of black gloves, with a black dress suit underneath. Pale blue highlights with a metallic sheen, almost resembling Tron Lines, criss-cross his entire ensemble.

    • Here is a rough, AI-generated visual ref. I did ask for blue highlights, but the bot apparently ignored me.

  • Costume: None to speak of. He dresses ostentatiously enough to catch eyes when he's not on duty.

  • Personality: Ryusei is, first and foremost, arrogant. He's well aware of his preternatural intelligence and skills, and isn't afraid to let everyone else know about them - or to put down anyone he sees as failing to live up to their own potential. Even if you manage to win him over somewhat, Ryusei remains cold and aloof, intent on pushing you to maintain the impressive skill necessary to earn his favour in the first place. He's well aware this attitude makes him unpopular with a lot of people, but isn't too fussed; if mewling cowards want to dismiss his belief that all can and should pursue greatness as egotism, so be it.

Despite this attitude, Ryusei has a surprisingly strong selfless heroic spirit. Sure, he'll take every opportunity to bask in the glory earned from good deeds, but fundamentally, Ryusei can be relied on to do the right thing when it matters. He's committed to proving he has what it takes to succeed as a hero, and to prove he did it using his own skills and not through family connections at that. Expect any attempt to convince him to compromise his integrity to be repudiated, violently.

He's also kind of a geek. You don't become a superhero with a card game-themed gimmick without being at least a little nerdy, after all. Trying to shove him in a locker is ill-advised.

  • Hero Class: Summoner officially, with elements of Science Hero.

  • Powers:

    • Duel Spirit: Ryusei is a renowned Dragoncallers TCG player, and has developed a Summoner's bond with the spirit of his signature card, Draco-Master Mage. "Dorako", as Ryusei affectionatelynote  calls him, can be called to our world by Ryusei placing the card in the appropriate slot on his Dragoncallers Duel Terminal and reciting a chant (not a specific chant, it just needs to be one that tickles Dorako's fancy). Dorako possesses the same arsenal of spells he has within the lore of Dragoncallers, most of which either summon dragons (summoning within summoning!) or grant him other traits associated with dragons such as wings or pyrokinesis. He's also an aversion of Squishy Wizard - Dorako is strong, tough and more than capable of bashing your head in with his kobold skull-topped staff.

    • Dorako is a very powerful summon, but his power comes with a notable drawback. Whereas Summoners traditionally have total or almost total command of their summons, Dorako is an independent entity whose bond with Ryusei does not compel him to do exactly as he says, meaning he will only follow Ryusei's commands insofar as he feels like it. Couple this with Dorako's free-spirited nature and fondness for annoying the conceited (e.g. Ryusei), and Ryusei's role is less that of Dorako's master and more that of a frazzled handler desperately trying to keep the powerful mage from a fantasy universe from wandering off to cause chaos in Fuji City for his own amusement.

  • Technological Genius: With Dorako not being 100% reliable, Ryusei has a number of gadget-based failsafes of his own design. Since he has to lug a heavy Duel Terminal around on his arm to be able to call Dorako up, Ryusei has a significant limit to the weight of the other gadgets he can bring with him; most of them are thus small, niche trinkets along the lines of something James Bond would use. The vast majority are themed around Dragoncallers cards; after all, Ryusei openly reasons, what is a superhero without a well-defined gimmick?

  • Gear: The aforementioned Yu-gi-oh Duel Disk arm-mounted Dragoncallers Duel Terminal, a device used to hold and process cards and project holograms during on-the-spot games. The equally aforementioned rotating collection of small gadgets. For absolutely desperate circumstances, Ryusei keeps a penknife hidden in the inside pocket of his jacket.

  • Background: Ryusei Oshiro is the son of Aoi Oshiro, an executive with the Kosmos Corporation, albeit one who primarily deals with its military contracts rather than its experiments in superhero training. His father Anko also has a job with the company, but the nature of it is highly classified and takes up so much of his time that Ryusei has barely ever seen him. Because of his mother's job, he was raised in Fuji City - one of the few legal adults in Japan to have no memories of life outside Fuji's boundaries - in extremely comfortable circumstances. Well, comfortable financially. In emotional terms, between his effectively absent father and his distant mother, Ryusei's upbringing was characterised by a lack of parental warmth. His younger sister Haru was the only person consistently there for him as a child, and as a result, Ryusei is much kinder and more open to her than he is to anyone else.

    • From a young age, Ryusei displayed incredible intelligence, which was quickly picked up on by his mother and those she worked with. Aoi quickly made attempts to groom Ryusei to be her successor, and he just as quickly grew to hate them; his ego was another thing that developed early, and he could tell at a glance that his mother's line of work was one that would bore an ambitious youngster like him to tears. What did catch his eye was a certain other trade Kosmos plied. Superheroism... now there was a job you could truly distinguish yourself in. And naturally, he didn't doubt for a second he was cut out for it.

    • Amidst his ravenous consumption of all the knowledge necessary to build gadgets a superhero could use, Ryusei discovered the Dragoncallers TCG in articles praising its innovative use of mass-produced holographic technology - and observing the unusually high incidence of people becoming bonded as Summoners to the spirits of their Dragoncallers cards. Before long, Dragoncallers was both Ryusei's primary hobby, at which he became good enough to have won pro tournaments before he was 18 years old, and his more serious obsession. If bonding with your monster cards was so easy a random schmuck could stumble into it, surely Ryusei Oshiro, a being of incredible willpower if he did say so himself, could mentally brute force his way into such a link?

    • The good news: Ryusei was right. The bad news: his partner was Dorako.

    • Ryusei is now 21 years old. He's one of the most renowned Dragoncallers players in the entire world, and his grasp of both gadgetry and summoning grows better by the day. Now he heads to Silver Academy with the goal of becoming an officially sanctioned hero - and the less he adheres to the path Mommy would have wanted as he does it, the better.

  • Etc:

    • This guy is a very blatant Seto Kaiba Expy, but there's a bit of Jace Beleren in there too - mostly in the increased emphasis on his smarts, and in his being a little more conventionally heroic than Kaiba, even at his nicest, ever was.

    • If Gold Leaf wants to hash out the basics of how dragoncallers plays with me i'd be so down for that

be nice to benjamin it's not his fault he got beat up by a microbe

  • Real Name: Tress Kuedin (actually Rachel Zablane)

  • Superhero Name: Escarlata (a custom version of the colonies' mass produced Khazum V3 mechs)

  • Age: 19

  • Appearance: Not really one for laughing.

  • Costume: Optimized for mobility thrice over.

  • Personality: Tress is rather cool-headed and stoic, giving off the impression of someone who is unfazed by the happenings of things around her. This is not quite the case, however, as she's simply a person who hyperfocuses on what she sets her mind to, often letting what happens around her unrelated to that pass her notice, or brushing them off as irrelevant and unimportant. She's filled with conviction, stands firm by those it lies with, and maintains a clear, if cold, outlook on the worst of situations, not affording herself the luxury of panic. Somebody has to keep a calm head, and it will be her if need be. Even in the depths of anger, it's more like an intense heat than a raging fire.

  • Hero Class: Real Robot/Psychic

  • Powers:

    • Rachel herself:

      • Taekwondo: Rachel knows taekwondo. Not a master or anything, but she's decent in a fistfight.

      • Psychic Resonance: Rachel has latent minor psychic powers, able to sense and read the minds and emotions of others.

    • The Escarlata

      • High Mobility: Thanks to the tuned up thrusters, the Escarlata is much faster than the basic Khazum. Rough tests show tripled speed over the Khazum V3. Nevertheless, the Escarlata is capable of incredible jumps and slight flight due to these thrusters, and can fire on the move.

      • Computing Power: The Escarlata has a powerful targeting computer and sensors, allowing its pilot an incredible degree of assistance in aiming at and detecting threats.

      • Disengage Safety Limiters: Put the reactor into overdrive to risk overheating and damage, but vastly improve speed and performance.

      • Honestly, it's a giant machine, it's got superhuman strength and speed, etc, all the trappings of being a giant machine.

  • Gear:

    • Rachel herself:

      • Pilot Suit: A standard issue mech pilot suit in pink. Airtight and with an oxygen supply in case of cockpit breach, this allows Tress to function in places with no air. Also comes with a kit of patches for fixing holes or cracks in the suit.

      • Vernier Jets: An attachment for the pilot suit mainly, giving full motion capability in zero gravity environments.

      • Handgun: For engagements when she's forced to dismount her mech. It's nothing special, just a backup weapon.

    • The Escarlata

      • Particle Assault Rifle: A standard particle assault rifle that fires at a high speed. Not really high power, but the sheer firepower going downrange makes up for it. Can fire many shots before needing to reload.

      • 2x Beam Saber: Again, standard issue particle sword. Nothing special going on here.

      • Hi-Particle Launcher: A powerful, slow-firing cannon that shoots highly condensed particles in a coherent beam at whatever it's aimed at. Has a magazine of 4 shots before needing to reload. The choice for if heavier ordnance is needed.

      • Shield: Simple hand-mounted shield, effective against most conventional attacks.

      • Arm Missiles: The Escarlata can fire two missiles at a time from its left wrist for an explosive surprise.

  • Background:

    • Born Rachel Zablane, of the Zablane noble family that held authority over the Orphelin station, most of Rachel's life had been relatively easy. An only child, she was groomed to be the next heiress of the Zablane family, the fate of Orphelin to be laid in her hands once her parents passed. She took to this with gusto, filled with a sense of pride and duty towards her people. All was right in her own little corner of the world, relatively speaking.

    • But then, Orphelin was attacked by the Galaxians. The Orphelin military scrambled, putting up a brief but fierce fight. Yet, at every turn the Galaxians seemed to outmanuever them. Secret plans foiled, weaknesses exploited, the Galaxians were always several steps ahead. In a scarce few months, the skirmish was over, and Orphelin conquered.

    • Unbeknownst to the Zablanes, they had been betrayed. Another noble family from a nearby colony, the Bellac house, were eager to expand their domain and had made a deal with the Galaxians in exchange for control over Orphelin. They and the Galaxian forces broke into Zablane Manor in the midst of the family's escape, and had those they found executed and the house destroyed. Rachel, who had escaped before their home was breached, never got to see who had betrayed their family. When she came out the other end of the escape tunnel, she was alone, waiting for parents who would never join her.

    • Determined to one day overthrow the Galaxians who had taken her birthright from her, but unable to muster what was needed, she turned to a childhood friend for help getting her away from Orphelin, and giving her a mech she could use to both defend herself and one day take her revenge.

    • That friend was one Tomas Bellec, of House Bellec. And that is how Rachel came to be on Earth, going under the secret identity of Tress Kuedin, lest the spies of her enemies learn of her survival.
