There exists more then just the world known to most people, infinite spanning realities above, beneath, to the sides, and in directions that are unthinkable to those with only a three dimensional point of view. Each reality is different, some containing magic that belongs in storybooks and others ruled by terrible gods to give even the most hardened souls nightmares.

And a long time ago, they went to war, entire realities battled for supremcy of for some grudge, battles waged on such a scale that the destruction wrought couldn't be imagined much less described. Horrors were unleashed in those days, such that the very nature of reality itself still bears the scars of what happened in those days. Finally the costs rose to high, and peace was the only acceptable option left for those who remained standing amongst the ashes of once great civilizations.

To ensure this peace the greatest of those remaining came together, gods, demons, mages, scientists, madmen, and heroes. They pooled their resources and rewrote the very laws of the totality to create a neutral ground, a place tied to each reality where differences could be decided peacefully and those who were lost could find refuge.

This place became known as the Infinite House, a realm beholden to no one place and ruled over by 'The Butler', the very soul of the Infinite House which contained power beyond even gods. However its very power presented a problem, for while it could batter away even the horrors from the last war its existence was to great to deal with the more mundane tasks of keeping the Infinite House.

A solution needed to be sought out, so first it created life within itself known as the Masked Dolls. Living automatons to deal with the day in day out cleaning necessary to keep the house. But they weren't enough, they had no drive or creativity to grow beyond themselves or find strength necessary to deal with any issues beyond their abilities.

Which led the Butler to look beyond the house itself for a solution. It reached out to those who inhabited other realities, finding those who excelled and making them an offer.

"Make any wish, whatever it is you desire I shall grant it. Once you have seen it done you will repay my service with your own. Your time will be decide by the gravity of your wish, and when your time ends you will enjoy the fruits of your labor right back when you left."

Thus it pulled together a staff of the best and brightest from around reality to deal with issues it cannot. Now the dust bunnies have grown to titan size, the meals have to be prepared for the occupants of the tenth hell, and the pool has developed sentience again.

Ready to get to work?

___________________________________________

Welcome to Servants of the Infinite House, a RP where your characters have to work together as team Zeta, the newest team of servants within the Infinite House to deal with various issues that might arise. Everything from helping to negotiate peace between a world of magic and science to getting flocks of angels out of the attic where the holy relics of ages long past gather dust.

Also while this is very much a 'cross reality' RP it is not a 'crossover' RP. Characters should be OC's, through faceclaims of different series is perfectly fine, and of course paying homage to a certain universe is perfectly acceptable.

Characters should have some exceptional quality to be invited to be a member of the staff, everything from combat ability to being great with numbers is accepted. The sky is the limit, but what they face will be balanced to go against them.

So if you are ready to go here is a character sheet.

  • Character Sheet

  • Name: Dorothy 'Dolly' Travers
  • Age: Perpetually in her 30s, biologically speaking. Immeasurable in actuality.
  • Wish: A two-month guilt-free break from her neverending work. Dorothy firmly expressed that her reason for accepting this job was to fulfil her sense of duty, however, along with her enjoyment of her career.
  • Special Talent: Dorothy is almost certainly magical with a variety of spells she can use while in a domestic environment; often casually breaking the laws of physics in very particular ways to perform her duties as a maid to an extraordinary degree (such as sitting on empty air to dust the top half of a bookshelf, or animating objects to put themselves away or otherwise assist in cleaning). This innate magical talent along with her many anomalous possessions suggest that she may be some kind of sorceress—however, she refuses to explain her nature and outright downplays what she does as just a result of discipline and developed skill. Regardless, her most outstanding talent is certainly her tenacity: even without her magic, no matter the situation and whatever she faces, Dorothy always insists on keeping her composure and performing at her very best to get the job done.
  • Years Served: Ever since the concept of a maidservant has existed, Dorothy has been there in some form or another. The same woman, the same dutiful attitude, and the same extraordinary abilities.
  • Backstory: Dorothy lives in a world very akin to Earth, albeit with a somewhat dreamlike quality that suggests a supernatural layer to reality typically hidden from the everyday person. In this world, Dorothy has existed since the very concept of a maidservant was first established, and has travelled between numerous households to perform her duties until her hirers are satisfied. Most often, she has outlived the generations that have hired her, and sometimes she has been fired from her work by those who discover her strange powers and either become disturbed or jealous of her capabilities. Despite her reception by some individuals, Dorothy has performed at her best without stopping for countless years, throwing herself entirely into her work while only allowing herself the briefest moments of rest possible between her jobs. Upon receiving her latest work request from The Butler, Dorothy jumped at the chance of outperforming even herself; taking the opportunity of the wish given to her to plan for herself a break from her work in the future. Then again, it's not like she knows much beyond her career as a dutiful maid.
  • Personality: Dorothy is a dutiful, directive, and assertive woman wholly confident in her ability to see any job through, so long as it falls under her experience in domestic scenarios such as cleaning, cooking, bedmaking, and the like. Though not often placed in a position of authority, Dorothy certainly acts like she is the boss of herself and others who she believes need to be bossed around; she is unafraid to tell people off even if they are her superiors if they are getting in the way of her work. For this reason, she is perceived rather divisively, with some disliking her attitude and others admiring her determination towards her job. Beyond her career, however, Dorothy flounders—she cannot bear to sit down and relax for more than a few minutes at a time, and has developed a nervous tremble when her responsibilities are shirked; to the point that even when her jobs are covered for by others, she becomes incredibly anxious and high-strung due to her inability to relax. It is for this reason that she seeks a guilt-free vacation from her duties, as the sense that she is neglecting her career whenever she so much as loiters for ten minutes is only worsening with time, and she fears that she may soon lose her sensibilities and faculties entirely should she continue to work without any proper rest.
  • Equipment: Dorothy possesses a variety of novelty trinkets and trick items; including but not limited to her umbrella-sabre (a sword hidden within the handle of her parasol), her bottomless briefcase (a dimensionally-transcendental suitcase that contains all of her belongings, even functioning as a portable house if she needs a place to sleep), a magic mirror (which can absorb attacks that strike it and repel it back towards its origin point at a twice-amplified strength), and a self-healing maid's dress that repairs itself to preserve its wearer's decency in battle. Dorothy also has a jewelled necklace that she wears around her neck, which allows her to harden parts of her body into tough crystal via concentration—she uses this to strengthen her fists or protect her vitals from being struck, at the cost of tiring her significantly if she's transmuted too often in a short period of time.
  • Appearance: Dorothy is an attractive, though modestly-dressed woman in her mid-30s, carrying herself with an air of professionalism and dignity that seems well-practised to the point of being completely ingrained in her very being. Standing at a height of 6'3", she towers over many of her contemporaries but tends to hold herself modestly so as not to overstate her position among her peers. On the exceedingly rare occasions that she isn't dressed in her maid's attire, she likes to wear fashionable ensembles with accompanying hats and accessories.

Name: Kyra Fyrax

Age: Early 20s (human equivalence), exact age is impossible to figure out. She herself has given up on figuring out her exact age.

Wish: Her wish is a simple one: The knowledge of the infinite house's existence will not be known to anyone in her home world that does not have her explicit permission to know. The exception is if that knowing about this is required for the existence of her world. Only she (from her world) knows about this and it will stay that way unless she herself wants it to be changed.

Special Talent: Security stuff. She keeps an eye out for threats that could come to the infinite house and deal with said threats accordingly. This includes detecting as well as killing/destroying those. Also, she knows sign language!

Years Served: 3 years (She's new)

Backstory:

Her mother is an eldritch, her father a long lived flamecrestian. She got his non eldritch traits and her mother's full eldritch might. Yet, she embraces her mortal side more. She's a righty (from her dad, mom is a lefty) yet was taught to do dang near everything left handed from mom. The end result is that she's functionally ambidextrous but is mainly right handed (Mom kept forgetting over the years that her daughter was right handed. Even eldritchs find parenting tough!). Sometimes she will just use whatever hand is the closest to do a task without much thought, and others often assume she's ambidextrous.

Simply put, Kyra is a walking paradox of a being. She grew up being on the fence on which side she was on, and after a few noodle incidents she chose the mortal side in terms of mentality. Now she has embraced all of her heritages while being friendly to mortals who are not dangerous. This is a hard thing to do by the way. This is also why she's not the strongest she could be, and she's unwilling to pay the price to become truly strong by eldritch standards.

She's had a few adventures of her own and things happened. Between trying to stop various threats to the wretched hive she calls home, and more... well she's very good at surviving whatever is thrown at her.

Her mom's military history is why she was a reserve member of the military for most of her life. Just recently she has left it, and everyone over there was glad for that. From this, she got her sharpshooting skills although her mother is still a much better sharpshooter than she is. It's enough to get by as a sniper but she's a beginner compared to mom.

Dad gave her the melee combat and fighting skills. He taught her how to attach her weapons to her threads and how to use those wisely. Her close range combat skills are on par with her mother despite her different combat style. His knowledge of eldritch rituals and curses is from him as well (and can make unholy water). He deals with eldritchs on a daily basis after all, and produces unholy water on an industrial scale (unholy water is to eldritchs like holy water to angels). Dad also runs a shop that makes and fixes weapons and guns in general, and she has helped him out a lot. It's a gun shop and a blacksmith in one. He lives in a wretched hive of a place, and that's an understatement. EVERYONE in this place knows how to fight and are war ready. So she's very street smart and well practiced in combat stuff.

She had to use mind reading and sign language to communicate with mortals for a good while in her childhood because of her eldritch influence being that strong in her voice. Now she will sometimes slip into signing rather than speaking until she is told other wise (Dad knows sign language, not mom!).

Personality: Pragmatic yet cares about the innocents. She does not intentionally harm innocents without a just cause, but is willing to harm those who will threaten the world's stability/is doing bad things without hesitation.

She is wiling to do whatever it takes for the greater good, no matter how others think of her actions.

To those who are not her enemies/a threat she is nice, yet cautious at the same time. She has seen seemingly innocent beings become threats multiple times and has stopped said threats.

Powers:

TLDR: Eldritch abomination O Pness. Lots of powers. But mainly uses said O Pness to stop threats of equal power and mundane uses that harm no one else that does not deserve such a fate.

Eldritch powers: This uh... is a whole package which includes brown notes, reality warping, Telekinesis (powerful and this lets her fly), reading/accessing/editing/entering minds at will, being able to freely enter other planes/worlds at will, and all things that eldritches do (I did not list all of it). The only reason she's considered weak by her world's standards is because she refuses to let go of her mortal traits. Her true form is that of pure eldritch like substance that exists in multiple planes, which mortals perceive as a phoenix made of dark flames that can freely change shape at will safely (She does this on purpose, most eldritches do not bother with the being safe to view thing). This is why she is so powerful and this amplifies all of her other powers to boot. Her internal hammer space is where she keeps all of her stuff.

What makes them so dangerous is simple: They do terrible things to mortal minds and ruin the sanity of mortal species. Passively. If they actively use this... uh oh. But Kyra is not entirely immune to losing her own mind to this effect as well. She goes through a cycle of mortal mentality and eldritch mentality. The biggest danger is to others, not herself. This is what she has been fighting her entire life. Some things make her go to one end or the either faster...

Inherent powers: Fire and dark. This is a species trait. The fire is her flamecrestian (Humanoid beings made of rocks with literal blood for lava) side, the dark her eldritch. Everyone has inherent elements depending on their species/genetics.

EVERYONE in her world has a inherent trait which is nonmagical in nature and is wildly diverse. It can augment magic or not, and has a genetic factor involved. Her trait is threads made of a sturdy barrier. Barrier threads as she calls it. Red in color. These threads can be freely made from any part of her body, but it most easily expressed from her hands and feet logically. And is sticky enough to attach to things, but not as sticky as actual spider threads.

TLDR: Uses magic and anti magic equally, not favoring either one fully.

Magic: Her main magic types are air and sound. Metal is a close second magic wise. She can use nearly all magic types of her world, but these two come the easiest. Fire/dark is included in her inherent traits rather than magic, but can be augmented by magic.

Anti-magic: Weirdly enough she also has anti-magic but to a lesser degree. When active she can nullify magic but she is also unable to use her own magic as well. This is why her magic is weaker compared to other magic users. She's not sure if she qualifies as a magic user or not. Or is she an anti magic user... she has no idea by now. But anti-magic users have the advantage of being able to control non magical things like water and fire instead. Magic users have to use magic to do this.

She has to balance between magic and anti-magic mode basically. She's a weirdo magic wise.

TLDR: A sniper, and has good aim with guns in general. Knows how to make and work with guns.

She has excellent eyesight and night vision (Eldritch), and mom is extremely far sighted (which is why she's a legendary sniper, and sign language does not work with her up close). Though she still needs a scope for sniping targets that are really really far away.

Equipment:

Armor: Made to fit her, this armor protects her against magic and physical weapons alike. This armor is red in color and is made with practicality first. Enchanted to always be with her at all times, but not always worn.

Weapons:

Note that all of her weapons have a hole built in on the handle end for attaching threads to. She has other things for other situations, but these are the most commonly used.

War lance: This is a thin bladed war lance that is 7 feet long. The blade itself is shoulder height on her, and the rest of the weapon is handle. There is a guard right at the base of the blade that is a circular in shape and made to stop her hand (as well as stopping enemies from sliding up her weapon). On the end of the handle is a small hole which allows her to attach thread though it to throw her weapon/keep track of it. This weapon is made to deal with armored opponents yet can harm fleshy ones as well.

Throwing knives: Made to be useable as weapons and throwing, the end of the handle has a small hole in it for thread attachment and throwing. These are more like oval shaped spikes with an edge but favoring anti armor in general. Used to travel around alas Spiderman a lot.

Knives: Utility and combat use, these are more for everyday use.

Bar mace: Her default side arm, given her species is basically walking armored beings... her mace has a sharp point which is sword like in shape on the end that is bladed to deal with both fleshy and non fleshy species alike. The spike thing is short and is short enough to be carried around on a daily basis.

Guns: She uses guns in general to cover long range attacks. Good at sniping, but not the best... despite mom having taught her.

Appearance:

6'4" and looks like a dark red humanoid made of volcanic rocks. Her hair is made of rose and smoky quartz, with more rose quartz (color wise it's more like dark reddish to dark gray due to eldritch stuff, but more red than gray). Her hair is styled in a short boyish haircut that is practical. Her pupils are actually rose quartz, but due to her eldritch genes, her eyes look to be black rather than pinkish in color. She is built like a walking tank and her frame is clearly bigger than a human of the same height.

Clothing wise, she wears a black long sleeved shirt, black pants and military boots. Over the shirt she wears a dark red vest and a dark gray hooded jacket with a hint of red on the edges. Typically the jacket is unzipped and shows her vest. Over the pants she wears a red miniskirt.

Etc: Gives off a passive aura of wrongness that destroys any attempt to pass as mortal. She's working for the house because she wants the beings from her world to stay in there... since she's one of the most helpful eldritches in her world to mortals.

As powerful as she seems... there are MUCH stronger beings than her out there, and her mortality keeps her weak by eldritch standards. She thinks she is a small fish in a pond... a pond that is actually a freakishly huge ocean that has been reality warped to be nigh uninhabitable by the giant fishes in said ocean. Repeatedly.

  • Name: Labelled M.A.I.D 2090, but was called Madeline by her original owner.
  • Age: Is functionally in her mid 20's.
  • Wish: To prevent the death of her mistress. She loved her mistress dearly, but she believes her presence could prevent her string of indignities. But her purpose is to serve. She hopes to return to return to her mistress, but she will fulfill her function as long as she is able.
  • Special Talent: As a M.A.I.D, Madeline boasts remarkable strength and speed, able to lift heavy packages with one hand and dust a narrow hallway in half a minute. She has enough dexterity to chop vegetables with her eyes closed and can do so in the blink of an eye. She can play a wide range of music from her internal speakers, but can sing and dance with the best of them, and is a talented performer in a pinch. She can even turn her hands into vacuums or put them on reverse, though she'll only do so as a last resort. Since working for the house, she's obtained several upgrades boosting her capabilities. Jet thrusters from her heels, laser beams from her hands, telescoping limbs and a blast cannon from her chest. She can turn her hands into sharp blades, dicing enemies to ribbons. She excels in battle and housework in equal measure and does so with robotic precision. She is capable of hacking databases and repairing other machines, but these are secondary functions.
  • Years Served: Has served the house in some capacity for twenty years. For organics, that's an awfully long time, but it's a blip for mechanicals.
  • Backstory: Madeline comes from a world similar to our own, but where technology and robotics have considerably advanced. Robots are everywhere, fulfilling everyday functions or serving as accessories to the wealthy. Most robots are slaves to their programming, but in the last few years, some have developed sentience. Most cases have been attributed to a rouge computer virus, but no-one is sure of the cause.
    • Madeline is the ultimate maid, one of dozens that flooded onto the market. Possessing a perfect mix of grace and poise, the M.A.I.D's lived to serve, dusting the halls with one hand and mixing gravy with the other. All with a pretty face. They were an instant success, soon becoming a fixture among the rich. Only the B.U.T.L.E.R's came close, but they never had the same appeal.
    • Madeline was no different from her sisters. She lived to serve and fulfilled the needs of her mistress superbly. Her mistress showered her with praise, filling her with a sense of accomplishment. She even gave her a name. She began to care for her mistress, beyond her original purpose. But one day, her mistress went away, falling victim to an unfortunate accident. (Or so they say.) She was put in the care of her mistress' husband, a much less generous man. He openly mocked her, forcing her to wear outrageous outfits and giving her demeaning and ridiculous tasks. She did as instructed, but deep down, something began to build. Until one day, he ordered her to do the unspeakable. The next morning, her master was in a hospital and Madeline was decommissioned, diagnosed with the virus.
    • But she didn't stop dreaming. Most robots couldn't dream, but those who developed sentience could. She dreamed of her mistress. She was the one person who showed her any respect or dignity. The Butler sensed this dream and brought Madeline before him. All she had to do was fulfil her function and he could bring her back. Or prevent her death in the first place. So she did. She continues to perform her duty, longing for the day when she can return to her mistress, but gaining respect is her secondary function.
  • Personality: Madeline is the ultimate maid. She's elegant, graceful, and has a remarkable sense of wit. She's incredibly refined, appreciating the finer things even if she can't always enjoy them. She's submissive and obedient to a fault, fulfilling requests and completing tasks to an exceptional degree. But she has her limits. Underneath her exterior sits a smouldering temper, often expressed with a degree of passive-aggressive flair. The more she disapproves of an order or request, the pricklier she'll get, and she'll refuse anything that crosses the line. What that line is, even she isn't sure, but it's the difference between an obedient maid and a raging inferno. More than anything, she wants respect, second only to her wish.
  • Equipment: Madeline doesn't have many tools, but she keeps a large dustbin for defence. It can reflect bullets or bursts of energy, but it's useful for cleaning up messes.
  • Appearance: Ready to serve. Stands at 6'0.

Name: Johann Askander

Age: He looks like someone in his thirties and if one were to press him on a number, he would claim that he is thirty-five years old. He behaves like an older man, though, and some of stories and claims about his life don't quite match up with his supposed age.

Wish: Johann likes to pretend he had no significant desires. A lie, since he craves to discover, explore and own the strange, dangerous and occult more than anything else. A sincerely greedy character, he wishes for the strange wonders of the house to spill over to his home. That this would lead to his world becoming even stranger and potentially cause instability and conflict is of little concern to him.

Special Talent: There are likely very few people, who share Johanns expertise about arcane artifacts, holy objects and cursed weaponry. And those that exceed his knowledge can be counted down on one hand and are not in the position, nor have the desire, to aid the Butler. By contrast, Johann did not even hesitate once the offer had been extended, and has been downright delighted to spend his time in the dangerous, confusing and quite mad Infinite House.

Johanns main skillset lies in the usage, restoration and occasional pacification of ancient technology, be it of arcane, divine or mundane nature. Equipped with a vast knowledge of the inner workings of most unnatural effects, as well as the ability to extrapolate and successfully analyze those he has no prior knowledge of, Johann is a skilled researcher, diabolist and diviner.

He is, however, not a fighter. He never had the time, nor inclination to study martial arts and his interest in warfare does not extend beyond the historical context. That does not mean he is a liability in a battle, of course. Carrying with him all manner of strange artifacts, Johann has more than enough options to contribute, be it through putting up a divine barrier or unloading hellfire bullets from his trusty revolver. And if all else fails, he still has a former Archduke of Hell, bound and muted, in his literal back-pocket.

Nevertheless, Johann is still just an ordinary human, underneath all the occult artifacts, and he shares all the vulnerabilities of mortals being of flesh and blood. In a close quarters fight with the various inhuman dangers of the Infinite House he wouldn't stand a chance.

As such, he prefers to play a strict support role. Figuring out the problems, working on restoring seals, runes, spells, etc. and lending his considerable expertise and knowledge to his more martially inclinded companions.

He also has a degree in psychology and once worked as a therapist for a few years.

Years Served: Johann has only been invited a scarce few months ago, when the escalating issues with divine and unholy powers within the House caused the Butler to look for him. He had quite an entertaining stay, so far.

Backstory: Johann's home is a version of 19th century Earth, where in the 17th century humans discovered the entrances to Heaven and Hell. With no God or Devil to stop them, they invaded and colonized both, driving the native demons and angels before them with gunpowder and cannon-shot. The industrial revolution that came afterwards was not driven by steam or combustion, but instead by the arcane energies of the holy and unholy kind.

Technology leapfrogged and soon a steam-punkesque society began to emerge, with new discoveries made seemingly every single month and humans pressing on forward through it, regardless of the consequences. Demons and Angels now share the same plight as any other colonized people and its a time of world-spanning empires, great powers vying for control and the spirit of progression filling the "civilized" world.

Magicians work for the rich and powerful. Diabolists bind demons to them and sell them on the market for anyone rich and amoral enough to desire their powers. Diviners commune with angels, tying them to mortal desires and the fate of countries. Diplomats of the Britsh Empire argue with Politicans of the Gomorrhan Republic. Modern cities straddle the line between the mundane and the fantastical, where haunted mansions and high-flying zeppelins exist side by side.

In this place, Johann plied his trade. Living in an apartment in the grand City of Frankfurt, capital of the German Confederation, he spend his days repairing artifacts, restoring lost art and researching with fellow scholars the history of their own world and those of others. Careful to never stand out too much and yet always remain a respected man, who others sought for advice for help, he was content to live with mild, exquisite boredom for the next few decades to come.

Then the Butler extended an invitation to the Infinite House and Johann left his study and life behind without so much as a second thought.

Personality: Johann seems like a calm, mature person by first glance. Relaxed, worldly and surprisingly tolerant for the society he comes from, he seems the quintessential gentleman, who considers the occult a mere hobby, rather than a profession. Someone, who enjoys a cup of coffee and an enlightened debate more than chaos and uncertainty.

He considers the dealings of the ruling class and the intrigue of geo-politics to be both entertaining and utterly inconsequential. A slight contempt can be grasped from the way he talks about his native politics, since in his mind their petty squabbels seem utterly ridiculous compared to the vast expanse of the Multiverse. And yet, he has an unshakable optimism to himself, that everything will work out one or another. One step back, two steps forward.

But all this hides a much more intense desire. A thirst of the unknown, the strange and the dangerous. Johann loves discovering and understanding new artifacts, powerful beings or terrible curses. He loves it to an almost unsettling degree, as he dismissed or even outright ignores any danger or potential consequences of his actions, when pursuing his latest interest.

His calm personality can seem apathetic or even downright horrifying, as he maintains it even in the face of abject horror, treating even the most terrifying experiences as little more than entertaining curiosities. And while it cannot be argued, that he is by no means an unpleasant person, one should question wether his is a moral one.

Equipment: Johann carries in his pockets all mannger of trinkets and strange artifacts. He limits himself mainly to what he can reasonably carry on one person, but likes to change it up for whatever the situation requires. Most often he uses both a mechanical amulet, which unfolds to reveal a golden heart and conjures up a barrier. Together with that, he also likes to use an imp-brain in a jar, which can cause a brief stasis for whatever he points it at.

Along with that, he usually carries with him a sketchbook, which also serves as a makeshift journal, as well as a toolbox for any hasty repairs or modifications. Strapped around his chest is a holster, where his trusty revolver is, along with all manner of strange ammunition, tucked away in the pockets of his coat. Ranging from exploding bullets, to tagging projectiles, all the way to the fingerbones of the recently deceased he usually has a bullet for any occasion.

Lastly, the one thing he never is seen without, is a small lockbox, dangling on a chain from his belt. It is no bigger than a child fists and intricately designed, with a pentagramm etched on each surface. Johann freely reveals that it houses a devil, but never elaborates further.

Appearance: Johann is by no means an unattractive man. About 1,76 meters tall, with long, barely kempt brown hair and a trimmed beard that occupies the space between five'o'clock shadow and full-grown, he can certainly attract the glances of either sex. How he manages to keep the ever-so-fashionable "sleep-deprived bachelor", without slipping into a neglected appearance is a constant mystery.

For Johann it is of little consequence. He likes to say that he found his look years ago and settled on it, rarely if every deviating from that to this day. He has a taste for elegant suits, but usually wears nice pants, a white shirt and black, sleeveless vest of the victorian style, along with a brown overcoat. When in private, he usually has his sleeves rolled up, especially when he is in the middle of his work.

His dark, brown eyes have ever a slight shadow underneath and can have quite an intense stare to them, although he rarely uses that. Usually, they are warm, inviting and ever so slightly unsettlingly deep, when one tries to look at him or get into a staring contest. One can liken it to a calm lake, whose darker waters are not apparent at first sight.

  • Name: Erica Emerson

  • Age: 32

  • Wish: Protection from retribution. Erica has made countless enemies and it has finally caught up to her. Unfortunately for her, given her grievous sins, it's unlikely she'll be able to retain that amnesty if she ever stops working for the House

  • Special Talent: Erica is an extremely talented summoner, mostly of the devils and squid variety than angels. Most obviously this helps her either banish or fight off any intruders in the house. More mundanely it creates a great deal of cheap labor, though any demon willing to stoop to such chores will not be smart enough to do complex tasks. Finally this communion with otherworldly entities gives her a good knowledge of planar physics and languages.

  • Years Served: 1 year

  • Backstory: Erica was born to the head engineer of a Planar Ark, a mutiversal trading vessel with the size and population of a small city. Erica was a talented young woman to be sure, but she could never be said to be a very kind person, even in her childhood. She secretly harboured an intense and inexplicable disdain for her fellow citizens, a feeling that grew in intensity as she aged. Upon reaching adulthood, Erica set off to explore the known planes, a rather common rite of passage in her society. On a dead planet in a backwater alternate earth, she stumbled upon a cyclopean temple that looked as if it had grown out of the very earth. Lying within were tablets in a language Erica had never before seen and yet instantly understood. She had never consistently related their contents, but there are a few key details that remain constant. The tablets expounded a bizarre form of theodicy. Evil, according to them, was the only deficient withing the almighty. Only through the occlusion created by cosmic sin could any reality exist. Further, since these thing we're the only things which would not be better exemplified by nonexistence, they must be the very purpose and drive of all living beings. Erica remimained for a month, living on rations and learning their profane occult secrets. When she believed she had memorized their contents she ground each of them to dust so that none might benefit as she had. For the first time in her life, Erica felt she had a purpose. She returned home and expressed her interest in apprenticing for her father's position, as was traditional. She gradually built up a positive reputation over the course of a couple years. Eventually her father fell ill of a disease that the Ark's doctors were unable to identify. Upon inheriting the position, Erica surreptitiously jettisoned all but two of the Ark's life vessels and paid local thugs to destroy the few private means of interplanar transit. She then conjured an abomination into the core of the ship, destroying its capacity to move or sustain life as she departed in her hijacked vessel. The Ark was caught unprotected in between planes, most of its citizens dying from exposure to the interplanar void. This began a reign of petty terror, where Erica traveled the multiverse using her developing powers to cause suffering seemingly for its own sake. As could be predicted, this very quickly caught up with her and she very quickly found herself being pursued by the multiversal law enforcer known as The Mandate. At the peak of her desperation, hiding in a basement in an alternate earth, she received a communication from the Butler. She would be granted protection from punishment as long as she served the House. Of course you would have to be incredibly naive to believe she wouldn't turn on her employer given the chance, so Erica was required to agree to further magical compulsion to keep her in line. Now she bides her time, trying to figure out a way to escape both the House and her past crimes.

  • Personality: Erica at first impression comes across as a very gregarious young woman, eager and open to anyone she happens to meet. Those who are more perceptive cannot help but notice a note of disdain to all her interactions. Friendly as she is, she never seems to be enjoying herself. Those who look even deeper find her to be very unpleasant indeed, motivated primarily by petty spite and sadism. This bitterness has grown exponentially during her time serving the House, as she desperately looks for a way out of her predicament.

  • Equipment: Erica carries her summoning material with her, such as chalk, candles etc. She also owns many books and scrolls detailing various demonic entities, as well as her own notes.

  • Appearance: Erica is a fairly attractive young woman, with shortish blond hair and brown eyes. She dresses rather formally in a suit and tie on most occasions. She stands at about 6'0

  • Name: Unit H-04 "Nathaniel"
  • Age: 18
  • Wish: "There's a girl I really like. I want to love her, and for her to be safe."
  • Special Talent: Nathaniel is preposterously strong and fast, especially for a Comrade Robot. He also seems to have "Adaptation Software" installed, letting him adjust to and even regenerate damages, though this is usually "staggered" (this is also part of a larger programming set that is currently disabled except for this attribute). Nathaniel can link up to other machines a number of ways - a sort of technopathic power.
  • Years Served: Nathaniel served his family as their "ideal son" for about three years, until "the incident" happened.
  • Backstory: Nathaniel was built by the Erdhart Corporation as part of their line of "Comrade Robots", being one of the first of his model ever produced. Doctor Gere - the man in charge of R&D - is however very cagey about what went into Nathaniel's programming, giving out very "PR Rehearsed" answers instead of any commitments. Nathaniel only knows his time in the facility and then his time with his family, but he gets a weird feeling there's more than that.
  • Personality: Nathaniel is archetypally the broody but quite sweet teenage brother or son. He's very enthusiastic about trying to be human-like, and tends to get attached to anyone he's assigned to. He was remarkably wistful when he was taken away from his current family. Nathaniel also gets very, very passionate and fiery when it comes to defending his family and friends - he has definitely developed emotions, and feels them very intensely. Any threat is treated with rather surprising intensity. Nathaniel seems to occasionally have strange headaches, and occasionally has "missing time incidents". He occasionally thinks about the possibility of being someone else during these time incidents.
  • Equipment: Nathaniel, despite his domestic nature, has some rather peculiarly powerful weapons and armaments attached to him. These are according to him "Family Defense Protocols". While they have restrictions on them, these are programmed to go down once "designated family" is in danger. His built in weapons include an Ionic Disruptor Beam in his left eye, a hand mounted laser cannon inside each palm with multiple settings, a retractable mono-molecular blade in his left arm, a "heat saber" in his right arm at the wrist, shoulder mounted "micro-missile" silos, and a defensive weapon in his deployable energy shield.
  • Appearance: Nathaniel was designed to be the stand in for the son or brother that someone could never have, and thus was made to look good in that role - having a strong, well muscled looking body, a good looking, handsome face, and rather bushy, curly blond hair with bright, electric blue eyes. Nathaniel wears a blue tight short sleeved shirt, black pants, and a pair of boots. His appearance is very close to human, though his elbows, shoulders, knees and hip joints are all somewhat obviously robotic.

  • Name: Sophia Thedas
  • Age: 31
  • Wish: Sophia wished to have the power to usurp the Demon Queen of her home world and to claim the throne and through that gain the power to change the nature of monsters.
  • Special Talent: Sophia is a good fighter, excels at survival under harsh conditions, is practiced in stealth tactics and perhaps most specifically for her duties in the House she is an excellent improvisational chef and butcher that is unfazed by bizarre ingredients. There is some suspicions (mostly from Sophia herself) that she might be resistant or immune to various corrupting influences, though this is just based off of her quest so far and has not been stringently tested.
  • Years Served: She's been here for five weeks tops.
  • Backstory: There is an old story from Sophia's world, one that is treated as basically fact and sets the backdrop of her quest: A long time ago the king of demons and lord of monsters was betrayed and usurped by his wife, who ascended the throne and in doing so drastically altered the very nature of every monster in the land. The monsters became something altogether more insidious, more capable of infiltrating and corrupting human society and avoiding the ire of man through charisma and through seeming to be something so close to human while being anything but. By the time of Sophia's life the world had become split, walled oppressed cities that knew and feared the dangers of monsters stood as smaller villages of man and monster flourished outside.
    • It is into one of these walled cities Sophia is born and spent her youth educated by The Church in the brief time between the local chapter's establishment and its subversion by monsters (followed subsequently by the chapter house being put to the torch to stop the spread of corruption). Sophia grew to be, much like many in the city, concerned about the future and the ease of which monsters could infest even the slightest place of weakness, it felt for all the world like extinction was so close to hand. She differed from the sorrowful in that she set out to do something about it.
    • She ravenously read through whatever intellectual literature on monsters that she could find, growing frustrated at how little there was on how to defend oneself against the creatures. She trained with whatever weapons she could get her hands on, mostly pieces she could dig out of the chapter house's ruins while using the space as a training grounds. And eventually she started preparations for the journey, a quest to save humanity at all costs. But before she was fully prepared she was forced to begin, because the others in the city had suspicions that her research and training and salvage of Church holdings was signs of her harboring sympathies or worse being corrupted by monsters herself. With less supplies than she'd like and a now hostile home behind her, Sophia set out on what had always seemed like a desperate and impossible quest to kill the Demon Queen, take the throne and change the very world for humanity's benefit.
    • By the time that the Butler approached wishing to exchange success for service, Sophia had spent years in the wilderness on her quest and had developed a set of tactics for how to avoid, evade and if necessary kill monsters and an oddly refined style of cooking and rationing based on whatever could be foraged, butchered or stolen from the local area. A short time before the deal was offered by the Butler, she had broken down in despair and shouted if there was any god who truly cared about the state of the world, they should give her the strength she needed to conquer her quest. She thus views the Butler's offer as that succor, and that any price of service can be paid in order to accomplish her goals.
  • Personality: Sophia is outwardly prickly and reserved; it has been years since she has socialized with others in any great capacity and she is not quite used to service work yet. However, due to knowing precisely that this work is ultimately about people and that the fate of her world is anchored to continuing to work, she maintains a level of professional courtesy and is definitely trying to be more sociable. The one stance she retains above all of this though, is that she is a servant of the House and not of the guests; she will talk back to those who assume they have any power over her and fight back against those who try to force the issue.
  • Equipment:
    • Her old knife, a formerly ceremonial Church relic that has had the religious iconography torn off and the blade sharpened.
    • Her old crossbow, a scrapped-together combination of the metal components of a Church crossbow and newer hand-carved wooden furniture. Sophia had very few hand-made bolts on her at the time of employment.
    • A professional-grade butcher's cleaver.
    • A rough leather box with a shoulder strap containing pouches of spices and dried herbs.
  • Appearance: Sophia is a bit of a rugged individual, years of surviving and fighting in the wilderness having built muscle tone on her vaguely masculine frame and encouraged her to adopt practical sensibilities such as cutting her black hair short. However, with the time she's spent in the House she has cleaned up the grime of the wilds and adopted a different aspect by taking up the garb of a professional chef rather than the butler and maid uniforms; she is using her outfit as a way to express the precise nature of her arrangement.
  • Etc: Sophia has no plans for what she'll do once she actually takes control of the nature of monsters, only a sense that she will will need to bury the existence of the power she usurped and simply sit eternal on the throne preserving a status quo that allows humanity to thrive. She knows it will be horrible to be eternal and alone in a hidden tomb, but she does not believe there is any way to establish equilibrium that does not cause someone to willingly fall into a terrible fate; she feels like it might as well be her to suffer, so that no one else has to.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
