No luck on Japan for obvious reasons, though.
Every time someone claims to be realistic is a dour cynic in disguise.I would've used Sarcasm Mode in response to that, but I want to be tactful though of course.
Still gotta see it. Hoping to do so pretty soon. Got three other Nolan movies—excluding the Knowing short, to catch up on first: Memento, Insomnia and Tenet.

...Oh my God.
That reminded me that I actually watched only four of his films total - The Dark Knight and TDKR, Inception, and Dunkirk.
I should really get around to fix that.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. You haven't seen Batman Begins!? You're missing out!
Interesting how Oppenheimer is something that probably wasn't meant to be a crowd-pleaser and yet drew in huge crowds anyway. Funny how life works sometimes, isn't it?
This is absolutely a mix of the Barbenheimer meme mixed with there being a scarce few legitimately good movies this summer.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy. It helps that well people did go to see if for the memes initially. They found they ended up liking it more than expected.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I would also say it's brand recognition- People generally feel Nolan is a really good director so, when he comes out with a new movie, people will go see it even if the topic is one they'd have never otherwise considered.
Uh I think it started off as memes. Because sure it sounded fun to do a double feature in this day and age. As well as Nolan's prestige.
Than people saw it..and liked it. That they spread the world.
It's really impressive its at 800 million when you remember that 400 million was considred the most generous it could earn.
I kinda hope this encourages people to watch more biopics. Napoleon and flower moon sound great.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yeah I've noticed there was a ceiling of sorts on how well biopics are received, and I'm certain Oppenheimer broke it.
Surprised there's no Oppenheimer Style meme.
I think the ceiling might be Bohemian Rhapsody at 900mil+, but that at least tried to pitch itself as a fun time at the movies. Oppie's definitely well above average though (and a better movie)
Joker made a billion—only R rated movie to do so—based on the name alone. Wonder if on a re-release at least if Oppenheimer would reach a billion if not in its original run. The association with Barbie—now highest grossing of the year—certainly still helps A LOT.
Watched this last night.
The commitment to the uncertainty of human extinction as the hanging legacy over everyone for the ending really made it work.
And Oppenheimer is passing 850 million by Sunday to become the third highest grossing film of the year. It best guardians of the galaxy 3.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I wonder if it will cross 1 billion?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNot sure. It'll at least come close. I at least think it's beating bohemian rhaposdy for title of Highest earning biopic.
For what it's worth. Reception has been really positive in China so may be that will make it go over the line.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It passed 900 million, so getting more and more realistic now.
Not enough gas left in the tank for the billion imho, but still incredible that it did so much. Good job losing Nolan, Warner Bros.

Maybe it'll do it in re-releases in the future but yeah I think it will just miss out for the original run.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It's playing through until November, so it's gonna be close. If so, would be a slow climb.
At this point, I would agree it's more likely in a re-release now though.
EDIT 10/16: Saw it finally and it was great. One of the definitive movies of the year for sure.

…They are making a Barbenheimer movie. Like a literal actual Barbenheimer movie.
A b-movie film maker is making a movie about a doll that creates an atomic bomb.
Hollywood Reporter broke the story here: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/barbenheimer-low-budget-comedy-film-charles-band-1235636257/
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Yep. That's Charles Band for ya. He never had an idea for a doll movie or a cash-in that he didn't like, so this was probably inevitable.
Well Full Moon has an audience for a reason: people know and get excited for what to expect. As someone who enjoyed a few of the Moonbeam films as a child, I get that.
It's not like many people didn't imagine what an ACTUAL Barbenheimer movie would look like, right? That's what I thought.
In this deadline interview, Christopher Nolan says that the sucess of Oppenheimer marks the dawn of a “post-franchise, post-IP era” of Hollywood… yeah, I’m skeptical.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.
Anyway Oppenheimer passed 600 Million. Not bad for a film everyone thought would do break even at the most optimistic.
Whether it gets 1 billion or 900 million to surpass bohemian rhapsody as the biggest box office bipoc is up in the air. Really depends on how to opens in the various asian markets it hasn't yet.
I've heard the pre sales in south Korea are good. And china is pending well too. So w/o knows ?
