Both prompts and responses should follow relevant wiki rules — exactly one trope per prompt/no tropeslashing, Playing With only applies to tropes (not Trivia or YMMV), and responses need to make sense without having seen the work (because the work doesn't exist), and so forth.

Dig In Your Heels: In one chapter, hired gun Scott Steiner interrupts a meeting between his boss, Corrupt Corporate Executive Ted DiBiase, and local crime kingpins the Bella Twins, to report that Sheamus and Nikki Cross have stolen a Briefcase Full of Money from the DiBiase bank vaults.

Ted: Well, go git the money back, Scottie! Ah didn't hire you to stand around, gruntin' an' beatin' yer chest like some dumb gorilla!
Nikki Bella: (putting a warning hand on Mr. DiBiase's shoulder) You shouldn't use language like that, Mr DiBiase. It's extremely offensive and unbefitting people of our line of work.
Brie Bella: Yeah. Gorillas are surprisingly intelligent and friendly. Don't compare one of them to Big Poppa Pump here.

In Worldsmash!, the Zolgoron resemble anthropomorphocized komodo dragons, but are actually one of the friendlier alien species out there. They do tend to keep to themselves, as they realize that their diet can get "pretty whiffy," but is surprisingly palatable if one can develop a taste for fermented meats.

Deconstructed in Journey to Ardnor: If there isn't a healer in the party and they've ran out of dress kits, party members can attempt to tend to their wounds themselves. Readjusting broken bones, scraping bullets out of holes, and sucking poison out of wounds more often than not only worsens the issue and lowers the party members' affinity towards each other. There is a 25 percent chance that the impromptu healing will be a success (increased to 50% if the character administering the healing has the Field Medic perk).

  • At camps, Alchemists can use materials collected in the field to brew "Untested Substances" that can be given to their sick allies. These substances have the chance to worsen existing illnesses if ingested or, when applied topically, inflict Irritation, a status condition that may cause those affected to lose a turn in combat by spending it scratching themselves.
  • If a party member's Stress level reaches 100%, they'll become Disturbed, and are prone to having nervous breakdowns. If someone tries to touch a party member in the midst of a breakdown, the Disturbed might end up going Berserk and blindly attack the person who touched them.

Fake Nationality- In-universe

My Example: In Dig In Your Heels, one of the gang's exploits ends with their newest employers, the Bella Twins, thinking that Sheamus has a brother called Sean, and ordering him and Sean to escort them to an underground meeting. Sheamus decides to recruit Sami Zayn to pretend to be Sean, hoping that the fact Sami has light skin and red hair will prevent the Bellas from realizing that he's actually a Canadian of Syrian descent, instead of an Irishman. For what it's worth, Sami does do a really good Irish accent, but the Bellas eventually work out the ruse anyway.

You Cant See Me: One sub-plot of the series is the stalking of Governess Stephanie McMahon by bloodthirsty pirate leader Captain Paige Bevis, who repeatedly confronts her in shady places and makes threats towards her, her husband and her children. Paige later reveals that 20 years ago, her parents were sentenced to hang for crimes of piracy by Stephanie's father Governor Vince McMahon. After that, a grieving and embittered Paige began learning all the tools of the trade, becoming a hardened pirate herself and a witch, before finally going after Governor McMahon to take revenge. Sadly for her, by that point Vince had already died in a Bar Brawl, so she decided to go the Revenge by Proxy route and kill his daughter instead. Paige herself brings this up in the confrontation:

Paige: Appropriate, isn't it, Princess? Your father took my family from me... So now, I'm going to take his.

In Monsters and Fantastic Locales, Centaurs are a playable race favouring the Archer class. However, the book warns players that "humanoid villages will probably not have furniture and other amenities tailored to someone who's 10 feet tall, quadrupedal, and weighs a literal ton." They also can only wear half of a normal suit of armor, and any Barding they find will need to be tailored to them.

The 80s animated series Outlaws of the Outer Rim is set in the 23rd century, and yet the main characters are dressed in 80s New Romantic fashion, use 80s slang, and live in a ship that runs on an 8-bit computer with a tape deck. The fashion and slang are justified in-universe as part of an 80s culture fad, and their ship is an extremely outdated model purchased second-hand because that was all they could afford.

Author Appeal — in-universe

    My Idea
Gynoid Project: The reason why protagonist Takeshi Sanno designed his robots to be gynoids was so that he could live out his dream of having a harem of cute robot girls at his beck and call.

Richard The Cartoonist: The titular cartoonist, Richard, features a lot of Burton-esque Noodle People in his social science fiction-comedy comic book The Man from Dump 16 and monochromatic shades to go along with his art style, which also takes cues from anime. In the next seasons, which focus on the development of Richard's other comic books, his Author Appeal is kept in his next works, which makes his style easily recognizable.

  • Pokemon War And Peace: The Planhigion City gym runs on this. They have a train network consisting entirely of mobile hedges, construction machinery made from bamboo and solid wood which runs on compost, and television screens made from gigantic petals. Seeing as the Tadgulad Region (a Fantasy Counterpart Culture of Wales) has more explicitly magical content than past Pokemon games, this is somewhat justified.

[up][up] In Pokemon Biology and Chemistry, the player intercepts the Cumulus Foundation/Cirrus Corporation on Route 17 trying to (re)introduce Trypopotamus into the native ecosystem. Clem makes an offhand comment about the situation that's a subtle reference to the book River of Teeth:

Clem: Y'know, this kinda reminds me of a book I read once... Except replace the Trypopotamus with Hippowdon, and they were being farmed for their meat...
  • You can find the book in question lying on a shelf in Clem's house in Sieve Town, described as a, quote, "western thriller about Hippowdon raised as cattle, and the cowboys who wrangle them."

Rules Lawyer

    My Idea
"Stickler" is a character trait in Journey to Ardnor. Characters with the trait gain a +2 to all history and memory checks and have a predisposition to follow rules given to them down to the letter. This is both a blessing and a curse; on one hand, Sticklers can be trusted not to wander off when assigned to stand watch at camps, and on the other, they'll take orders from others to "leave me alone" a little too literally...
  • This can be further exaggerated if the character with the "Stickler" trait is an Order Mage, in which case they will carry a copy of the Mage Order handbook with them at all times! Again, this is a double-edged sword; while having someone with an encyclopedic knowledge of Mage Order customs can be extremely helpful for detecting scammers and impostors, their insistence on following even the most arbitrary Mage Order rules instills within them a rigid moral code that will inevitably lead to conflicts with other party members.

  • Two cases of this occur in Dig In Your Heels, on account of both the parties using Exact Words to follow the law to the letter, if not the spirit:
    • Police Commissioner Daniel Bryan of All Elite City is legally bound to arrest people committing crimes such as robbery, drug dealing, and public violence- in his city, that is. Because the criminal empire lead by his wife and her sister lies across the river in NXT City, he doesn't have any jurisdiction to go over there and try shutting them down, which allows him to maintain Plausible Deniability and keep being a Cowboy Cop.
    • The gang's lawyer, Bronson Reed, is just as much a Rules Lawyer, except he's on their side. In one court case, he manages to take apart an attempt to get their newest associate Jinder Mahal sent to jail by pointing out several ways in which Jinder was not technically breaking the law, despite being caught driving a van full of drowsy lions. 1) Jinder has an official driving license, and the van in question was legally his. 2) The laws of NXT City officially forbid animal trafficking, but those lions were just being taken to a veterinary hospital for a check-up. And 3) he was convicted of smuggling drugs in the past, but that conviction was applied to Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, not to Jinder Mahal. This moment of Rules Lawyer-ing not only gets Jinder off free, it gets him to start lowering his stand-offish attitude towards the gang, and it definitely endears Bronson to their resident Smart Gal, Dakota Kai.
Bronson: Okay, guys, this is the first time I've really put my knowledge of legal loopholes to good use in court. Tell me honestly, how good was I?
Dakota: How good? "How GOOD?!" (grabs him by the collar, and inhales in a deep, aroused way) Let's go home first, an' then I'm gonna pick at that big, sneaky gorgeous brain of yours an' fuck it right out of ya!

Characterization Marches On

    My Idea

Nintendo And Friends, a comic about personifications of various videogame companies, has some of these:

  • Main protagonist Nintendo starts out as an all-around gentle Nice Guy with barely any mean bone in his body. In later issues, while he remains affable, it is suggested further and further that he's less kindhearted than he lets on. He also becomes a slight Control Freak, and would be more commonly portrayed as a Supporting Protagonist.
  • Steam starts out as a minor Shrinking Violet character who occasionally pops up every now and then. Later, she would grow into The Heart of the cast, and would become one of the main characters, usurping the role of the Nice Girl Nintendo had.
  • Sony was initially written as a Jerkass who bullies Nintendo and Microsoft for no apparent reason. Later strips portray him as a Tsundere Jerk with a Heart of Gold that occasionally cares abouth the two.
  • Microsoft, in the earlier strips, is a lot more actively antagonistic towards Sony, compared to the laid-back Occidental Otaku he later becomes.
  • The Big Three in general are more antagonistic towards each other in early strips. Later ones portray them as Vitriolic Best Buds who do do tolerate each other at least.
  • Earlier strips has Sega as a major character, a cheerful girl who hangs out with Nintendo. As later strips bring Steam to the foreground, Sega's role diminishes greatly.
  • Hal Laboratory starts out as an absent-minded young boy who eats a lot. Later, he becomes an All-Loving Hero who, like Steam, usurps Nintendo's Nice Guy role.

Awesome Aussie:

My Example: Vanessa Hillary, the main protagonist of Tricksters, is an expatriate girl from Darwin in Australia's Northern Territories. She's bold, outspoken, athletic, a Bully Hunter, and a hardcore mythology enthusiast who becomes an Ascended Fangirl upon meeting a bunch of different exiled "trickster" gods and teaming up with them against the forces of evil. And that's not even getting into her family's Heroic Lineage on both her mother and father's sides that gives her Voluntary Shapeshifting abilities...

Vance Geronimo, a playable character in the fighting game The Umpteenth Battle, is an Aussie biologist traveling the world in search of adventure. With his toned muscles and unmatched agility, Geronimo has suplexed a bear, retrieved priceless gemstones from the inside of a crocodile's mouth, and survived having an entire colony of fire ants shoved down the front of his pants — and that's just offscreen! In his Arcade Mode campaign, Vance goes toe to toe with a moose man, a vampiress, a kitsune and even the Hawaiian goddess of fire herself, among others and — given that the player knows how to utilize his moveset — triumphs over each and every one of them.

Affectionate Parody: Harem Genre

    My Idea
Shouganai! is an tongue-in-cheek love letter to the over the top harem series of the early 2000s. Following martial arts geek Ijirou Tanaka as he inherits his grandma's inn-turned-dojo — and the group of pretty girls who live there — the series takes slapstick comedy to its logical extreme, riffing on every harem comedy trope in the process. The girls' near superhuman strength is actually discussed and deconstructed somewhat in-universe: under Ijirou's grandma, the residents of the Tanaka Inn were being trained in the ancient art of Komitsu, and the burden of having to teach a harem of chicks a martial art that he knows next to nothing about has some surprisingly realistic effects on Ijirou's wellbeing.

Down Since Day One Ish plays the tropes of the harem genre for laughs as much as Horsing Around does with Polyamory. The Usos find out the hard way that dating a lot of women- among them, Naomi, Bianca Belair, Asuka, A.J. Lee, Liv Morgan, Paige, and the Bella Twins, just to name a few- comes with numerous realistic problems. You have to take it in turns to use the Shower of Love, you have to line up numerous beds side by side to all sleep together, and there's always the need to do constant check-ups just to make sure you haven't caught any STDs. But at the same time, all parties are consenting to the relationship, they all love and respect one another, and none of them are made to feel ashamed of their dynamic, showing how much the author respects the writing tradition.

On a similar note, Naked People Are Funny

My Example: In Dig In Your Heels, the gang is arranging a meeting with Don Rikishi to discuss An Offer You Can't Refuse. Unluckily for them, the Don decides to hold their meeting in his private hot spring. This means they all have to stand around nude waiting for him, and most of them feel pretty self-conscious and awkward about it, except Nikki Cross, of course. Then Don Rikishi arrives, and takes off his dressing gown to join them in the spring. And the sight of a nude Don Rikishi is something they could all have done without seeing.
