"Hey got room around the barrel? Trade a hot story for it, not some bullshit corporate feel good nonsense, real shit. Nah don't need the sauce but I could go for some shock water. Thanks.

Anyway, my story. So last week I was out on the streets with a shitty sign, trying to scrap together enough dosh to get fucked off some ganger shit. Hey I said I was going clean now not that I wasn't a zero cause back before. So I dipped into the backstreets to count whatever the suits tossed my way except only halfway through counting, some real primal shit pulled me out of my head. I look and this big bastard blows through a building; And when I say big I mean it, a huge gorilla looking bot-body that could crush a car into scrap. And not only was it big, it was tanking Bot Cop shots like I used to down drinks. I tried to make myself scarce, because big and mean looked like the type to take shields and Bot Cops don't give a shit unless you're wearing a suit and riding the Corporate train.

So there I was, praying to someone or something that I got to leave this place and live another day. And then they appeared, ain't got a clue who they were, cept that I haven't seen the kind of chrome they were wearing anywhere. They started fighting the bot-body and taking it to town but it wasn't some easy fight, things were exploding all around me. Couldn't run anywhere without getting mulched, but standing still just about got me the same way, some big chunk of something flying at me ready to crush me.

'Cept nothing did, because one of them jumped in front of it and tanked that shit. And then they turn around, and they say 'It's gonna be okay, I'll cover you'.

I ain't believed shit since my dad went corporate and tossed me out on the streets, but the way they said it, that I'd be okay? There was something there. Something to believe. They ain't corporate, I know that. But whoever they are, I'm gonna keep spreading their tale. Because if I can believe in something...maybe others could too."

Welcome to the world of Spark of Rebellion, an RP that takes inspiration from both the Cyberpunk and Magical Girl genres to create a unique world where players fight for a world that is thoroughly broken beneath the boot of their corporate overlords, so used to each day bringing disappointment that life itself has become an exercise in futility.

But even amongst this bleak world there are a few sparks that exist outside of the corporate plans, and these people find one day that their inbox contains a message, with both the above note and a schematic to create something known as the Idea Engine, a theoretic energy source that is fueled by the human spirit to actualize a number of cybernetic upgrades that burst through the bleeding edge of science and break into the fantastical.

However even with this advanced technology the schematics were incomplete, meaning even the great power these Embers have gained is only a taste of what they can truly accomplish. In order to gain access to the full strength of the Idea Engine they will be forced to face the various threats Silicon City will throw at them, from the Nailed who need to be saved all the way to the Corporate Overlords ruling over it all.

So the question stands, are you hype enough to stand up for what you believe in?

Primary Threats

  • Gangers: Various criminal factions that run through the seedy underbelly of Silicon City, dangerous in numbers and usually running illegal tech, but nowhere near the strength of the Corporations.

  • Nailed: The victims of the emergent Cyber Coffin virus and the current threat to the city's stability. Nailed are overtaken by their infected cyberware, becoming heavy mechanical horrors bent on destruction.

  • Eye-Drones: The Big Four's eyes in the sky, filling the airspace above the city in a constant stream of traffic acting as couriers, weapons, and delivery for other threats.

  • Bot Cops: Slang name for the fully autonomous police force that stalks the city streets, carrying electro weapons meant to stun anyone that resists them and being durable to a fault. However their seemingly 'nonlethal' weapons are just as capable of murder as anything else. The iron fist of corporate oppression.

  • Armor Kings: The boogeymen of the city that are only deployed against large scale riots or in truly dangerous situations. Mobile tanks with VI controlling them, armed to the teeth with top of the line military tech and adaptable defense systems. It's said that a single Armor King is comparable in strength to an army, their only failing being that while they adapt well to combat situations they are still run with computer minds and their creativity is capped.

The Big Four

The four corporations that stand above all else within Silicon City, controlling every aspect of life. While the public mostly associates the megacorporations of C.D.S (Caliber Dynamic Systems), Baby Brother, The Reclaimed Soils Group and Successor Corp with guns, cameras, meds and 'ware respectively, the influence of these four umbrellas weave into the entire city through subsidiaries and shells down to the brands that the average person interacts with daily.

Terms

Ember/Punk: A term used by those who wish to make a distinction between Gangers and those that direct their fight towards the corporations. Embers tend to be resourceful and brave, using whatever they can to survive and fight corporate oppression near the bottom of the pecking order.

Nailed: Mysterious beasts made of iron and steel, they’re monstrously tough, strong and are armed to the teeth…though they seem to be more than just metal.:

Corp Tech: Slang used for any kind of equipment or architecture tied to the higher echelons of the corporations. Corp Tech is usually sleek, stark black or white and utterly hostile to actual human usage.

Coffin Virus: A recently emergent computer virus that affects those with a combination of cybernetic enhancement and common signs of depression. Those afflicted quickly become overtaken by their augmentations, becoming a Nailed that almost inevitably goes on a rampage.

Idea Engine: A piece of technology rumored to be related to the Coffin Virus' emergence. This technology's schematics have been distributed as fragmentary and corrupted pieces by a strange signal that can be picked up throughout the city.

Debt Control: A shorthand for the Orochi Group, the primary provider of loans for above board cybernetic replacements. They are tied closely to the Big Four to garnish the wages of those working for them to pay for the parts. Should someone default on their loan the Corporations will act for their benefit.

  • Character Sheet
  • Name: You got a handle?
  • Screen name: Got contact deets for the net?
  • Cyberware: What's your steel? Where is your incomplete Idea Engine installed?
  • Ember abilities: And how does the broken Engine let you break what should be possible?
  • Backstory: What's your story? How'd you get your hands on an Engine?
  • Equipment: What other junk or weapons do you carry with you? How much of it is illegally obtained or straight illegal?
  • Punk motive: Why do you choose to fight the way of things?
  • Look: What is your style?
  • Etc: What did we miss?
