Wait, so what is the policy for Recap/? I'm a bit concerned now because I set up Recap.SMP Live a bit ago in order to properly organize a very disorganized work that hasn't been anywhere else. Based on other Recap pages I saw I assumed this was fine, and I couldn't find any kind of official policy on the namespace.
I do plan on adding summaries to the days, but I don't plan on adding tropes nor do I plan on making Recap/ subpages for each day or video.
It would be unfortunate if all that work had to be scrapped, especially since the chronology information isn't really available anywhere else at the moment. I guess I should start working on adding summaries ASAP.
(Edit: I've started working on summaries now :"D)

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLive...without looking it sounds like you wanted to use a work's Recap page for a purpose that would normally go on a work-specific wiki in a place like Fandom? Not saying anything you're doing is necessarily off-mission, but to my knowledge we don't necessarily like to host stuff just because "it's the only place to find this stuff" or "it would be a shame to have all the work go to waste".
While sometimes Recap/ pages are used sort of like tables of contents to help with episode navigation, if discussed further it'd lean to "no tropes? no page.".
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThe OP implied that Recap/ pages having summaries is fine too, so I'm confused.
I wasn't using those as my argument, moreso just saying my personal feelings. Apologies if that wasn't clear. If it doesn't belong on the wiki at the end of the day that's fine and I can't do anything about it, but I will be sad.

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveIf there are summaries, to me it would be fine, but it's a controversial take.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupZekkyou Gakkyuu Period 3 Marys Dining Table and others for this work to me look disproportionally large. 10 paragraphs for 20-30-page chapters, they use more text than even the manga it's recapping.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupDoctor Who 60th AS "The Giggle"
A recap page for an episode that's not yet released. I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I assume that's the source for the examples.
My understanding was that the work/episode/instalment needs to be released before any non-sandbox recap can exist.
Cut?
"the work/episode/installment needs to be released before any non-sandbox recap can exist"
The first of these contradict Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work, works should be fine, but many extend this to episodes.
I have no stakes in this, some episodes are announced with enough fanfare to have sufficient troping material, while often I question why bother building up mysteries on-page that will be answered next week.
We kind of haven't worked on Recap Guidelines to decide these questions.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI think a work page itself would be fine, but as recap subpages are spoilers off because they're specifically for post-viewing/reading/etc consumption, I'm not personally convinced.
One more thing to clarify policy on.
I don't think pre-release recaps should be allowed.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. After some discussion within the mod team, we've created a Crowner for this question. We'll also post to ATT to promote it.
If we get a consensus, Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work will be updated accordingly and it will be documented on any future Administrivia policy page for Recaps.
(Edited to link Crowner, so it's still accessible after it's unhooked from the thread)

mm, i feel like we should create the page but lock it to prevent endless premature additions that have to get sent to the cutlist
would also help with normalising the episode title formatting
dont have strong feelings on this one way or another tho
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadI feel if we make pages just to temporarily lock them right away, there's no point making them in the first place.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI don't understand what the point of making recap pages for unreleased works would even be. There's nothing to recap??

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveFor same argument as making pages for upcoming works. Sometimes "in the next episode" trailers and summaries have a lot.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThat does raise a question for me, though. If we agree that prerelease materials and trailers can contain enough information to make a regular work page with before release, how is that recap pages should work differently?
Presumably because recap pages are for post-work viewing, which means the work must exist first. And also technically when we trope pre-release content we're troping that content itself, not the work proper, and IDK if it'd make any sense to discuss trailer info on recap pages.
Take it with a grain of salt though, as I've never understood the urge to trope unreleased works, because to me it seems easier to just wait.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Purenessyep. i remember back in '14 tons of trope pages came out for whatever blockbuster Hollywood movie or superwholock episode was up next
hmm, then how would we handle people jumping the gun and making recap pages before its time without endless cutlisting?

hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadActually,
this change in policy may end up ugly because we can't realistically stop people from making pages for episodes the moment they're announced, we'll just have to monitor ongoing series and send notofiers.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupBetter than letting ppl who do that go unpunished tbh
I'm lovin' it. (My Troper Wall)Personally, I don't think it's any worse than policing the other unreleased work guidelines. We already have namespace-specific rules about when a work page can be created for an unreleased work (e.g. do we need gameplay footage, trailers or a release date).
to not allowing pre-release recaps
Do we forbid recap indexes that have nothing but redlinks? Last time I've asked, I was told it's okay if at least one episode recap is made.
Also that crowner looks callable.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI'm not really a fan of those pages, but I'm not sure if we have any specific policy against it.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.
I think I've mentioned this before somewhere else, but I believe short descriptions are sufficient if the work is similarly short (i.e. a literally 5 minute video). If you're doing a play-by-play recap at that point you're skewing into "trying to replace actually interacting with the work" territory because you can conceivably cover every detail and not skip over stuff.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
