Sunnyside, California - a sea-side city with a thriving tourist industry and a vibrant history.

From the long, sunlit beaches to the outskirt forests, there have been stories. Of creatures beyond human understanding - flitting in and out of sight most of the time, but occasionally the subject of wild stories. Something in this place draws these sorts of beings in toward itself - a beacon that brings the unusual.

Perhaps you have been living your whole life aware there is...something unusual going on, or you've thought yourself just a regular human being like any other. Your parents have been guarded, and keep a close eye - for reasons you are about to understand.

At sixteen, multiple seemingly human individuals in this town come into their own as beings that have been deemed monsters, cryptids and the unexplained. As you will. Learning to balance the world of the humans and the mysterious "Mythian" world you're only now immersed in... it is a dangerous coming of age story that will test your vigilance and readiness to enter a new, perilous sort of adulthood.

There are those dwelling in the shadows of this sunny cityscape that do not have your best interests at heart, and your place among your peers will be challenged, driven to the brink. To those who set foot into the world of the Mythians, the word is simply...

"Survive."

Welcome to Mythic: The Modern Age. This RP will deal with young people who either end up Turned into various mythical creatures or cryptids through the known methods such as a werewolf or a vampire, or who were born into it. Characters will be teenagers, and the Dangerous 16th Birthday trope plays a large role in the events to come.

These "Mythian" Teens can, once they are sixteen, shift from their "human" form and into the form that reflects their species.

In terms of rules, I and my friends have a Discord we use instead of a Discussion Topic on here, which is very convenient. Please join in when you get an invite.

No Script Format.

And no godmoding or invincible characters.

  • Name: Makani Kali
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Male
  • Mythian Species: Merfolknote
    • Abilities: Can turn into a merfolk form, gaining a tail and the ability to breathe underwater. In this form, Makani is a much faster, more skilled swimmer, possesses clear senses even underwater, and can be in incredibly cold waters without getting hypothermia and dying (though it is very uncomfortable).
  • Appearance: Ocean vibes. Stands at 5'5. In merfolk form, has a long aqua tail and fins for ears (which serve as external gills).
  • Personality: Quiet and introverted, Makani can be quite aloof to strangers and those he doesn't like. However, under the surface, he's an incredibly compassionate individual who cares deeply about the world around him and making it better. He can be a bit unconventional at times, getting hung up on things most wouldn't give a second glance, but he's actually really smart; he just expresses it differently. Makani is genuinely altruistic and does his best to help people when possible, but he has a strong independent streak and does not appreciate being deprived of his freedom.
  • Backstory:
    • Ke'alohi Kali likes to talk about the day he wiped out while surfing and woke up to the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. Noelani Kali reminds him that that was while she was in the process of giving him CPR and breaking two of his ribs. Regardless, that summer, they fell in love, married, and had Makani.
    • Young Makani spent his childhood alternating between swimming in every body of water he could find, trying and failing to surf, and reading books about marine wildlife. In other words, a relatively normal life for a beach town teenager. Then he turned sixteen, and woke up missing his legs.
    • One full-scale whackadoo freakout later, and his mom burst into his room. After seeing what had him so panicked, she managed to calm him down enough to explain: she was actually a mermaid, and evidently, he'd inherited the merfolk gene. Since then, he's learned how to switch between the two, and has grown rather fond of swimming in merfolk form (away from prying eyes, of course). As for keeping it from his dad...well, it's not hard. Ke'alohi is not an observant man.
  • Etc.:
    • Native Hawaiian. Sort of. He's not sure if his mom counts.
    • He does volunteer work at a local marine wildlife rehabilitation center. He is one of two teenagers working there, the other being Kai Anderson. The two don't know each other well and don't care to know each other well.
    • His dad works as a cook in a seaside restaurant, and his mom is a lifeguard.

  • Name: Tara Kamran
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Mythian Species: Simurgha
  • Abilities:
    • Winged One: Tara can partially or fully transform into a giant, colorful bird. Even in human form, Tara can sprout wings allowing her to fly and possesses the superior visual acuity of an avian. Her bird form flies faster than her human form. Additional benefits include sharp talons and a powerful beak to peck her enemies with.
    • Firebird: Like the phoenix, the Simurgh is said to be reborn in fire. Tara is completely fireproof - in fact, fire will heal her instead of harming her.
    • Feather of Fertility: Tara can emit a soft light from her body that holds the power to heal and purify. Dirty water can be made clean, plants will grow healthy and vibrant, and people will recover noticeably faster from injury and disesase. It's not a miracle cure, however, so it can't do things like replace limbs or organs.
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Perpetually high on life, Tara is a free spirit who lives in the moment. She's easily amused, upbeat, yet also casual and low-energy. In general, she exudes a chill vibe, preferring to calmly coast along. She loves nature and wilderness, and can often be found napping in tree branches.
  • Backstory:
    • While the merfolk could hide beneath the sea, the akyfolk had to retreat to the mountaintops to keep themselves hidden from the eyes of humanity. But birds are free-flying by their nature. It was inevitable, then, that they'd find their way back to the human world. Ali and Janna met as travelers by coincedence, hit it off, and later met several times while she was biking across Europe. She figured out quickly that Ali was not normal, based on how easily he could follow her through wilderness. He revealed the truth to her almost immediately.
    • As a result, Tara knew from childhood that her father was not human. He would come and go, visiting two or three times a month, before flying away to explore the skies. She dreamed one day of joining him amongst the clouds. Her mother was supportive. Though Janna had been happy to settle down once she'd had a child, she fully expected Tara to grow to have her father's wanderlust.
    • On her 16th, Tara found her wings, and Ali gleefully taught her how to fly. She's been addicted to the sky ever since.
  • Etc: The Simurgha are, unsurpringly, descended from the mythical Simurgh, a legendary bird associated with purity and fertility. It is said to be the keeper of the Hom, the Tree of Life, and legend holds that the Simurgh and the Hom still live somewhere in what used to be Persia.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

  • Name: Bonny Brooke
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Mythian Species: Merfolk (Jellyfish)
  • Abilities: Bonny has obtained the ability to shift into a half-jellyfish form, and along with superhuman agility while swimming she also gains an array of stinging, venomous tendrils through which she can agonise or paralyse her enemies with a mere flick. Bonny is also highly perceptive thanks to her enhanced sense of touch, and is able to detect vibrations in the water from a far greater distance than her contemporaries as a result; and can even do so in land through her feet to the point where she can hear murmurs of conversation from another room over. Due to her physiology, Bonny lacks bones in her mermaid form, and this translates somewhat to her human form as well: she is able to collapse into a boneless puddle on a whim, and contort herself into shapes otherwise impossible for a person to achieve. Bonny's nervous system has also adapted to suit her jellyfish form, as her brain has spread itself entirely across her body instead of being localised in her skull—this has the side effect of making her immune to being knocked out from blunt force trauma, and overall makes her reflexes much more concentrated than they ever could have been with a more central brain in control.
  • Appearance: dum jelly. Stands at 5'4", with a thick fringe of hair permanently covering her eyes. It's not known if she can see or not past it, but nobody has ever seen anything above her nose. In her jellyfish form, she has a similar effect with her bell covering up part of her face. Generally either has a clueless expression or a big smile on her face, very rarely displaying negative emotion.
  • Personality: Bonny resides in her own little world, remaining relatively clueless in regards to what’s going on around her and not concerning herself with any kind of critical thinking. With an attention span comparable to a goldfish, she is perfectly happy to follow whatever whims motivate her in any given moment; spontaneously rushing to the beach to make sandcastles or relentlessly poking people in the arm out of boredom are both habits of hers that she simply refuses to break. Though she can speak perfectly well, she more often than not refuses to, relying on gestures and nonverbal humming to communicate what she wants—and when she does have to speak, she typically does so in very concise sentences as if it’s too much of a bother for her. It is not known why Bonny acts this way, as she has no underlying conditions and in fact shows occasional signs of self-awareness: it’s possible she chooses to ignore most things outside of what she wants and is far more intelligent than she lets on, but either way it’s evident that she’s perfectly happy being who she is, even if she can be somewhat bothersome to others due to her childish antics.
  • Backstory: Bonny was born to Edith and Jeremy Brooke, both married members of an ocean conservation charity and general seaside lovers overall. Growing up as an only child, Bonny had difficulty in school and so had to rely on tutoring at home from her parents, causing her to grow up relatively isolated from her peers and with little free time away from her parents until her teenage years. However, on her 16th birthday Bonny began to experience changes beyond what was normal; over the course of the day finding the water more and more tempting to dive into and feeling that her sense of touch had increased to the point of oversensitivity. Though her parents were concerned, only one of them knew in fact what was going on—her father Jeremy, who had kept his nonhuman nature as a merfolk disguised for years, encouraged his daughter to simply express herself freely despite her changes, and to explore what she could do while she could before she was forced to grow up. Taking this to heart, Bonny has become much more outgoing and has gained a profound adoration for exploring the beach and the sea itself with her new abilities. Though barely remembering to keep her merfolk side in check, Bonny’s lack of concern with secrecy regarding her nature may turn out to be an obstacle in the long run.
  • Etc:
    • Has learned to swim from her father, never picking up that his mermaid tail wasn't actually just a fancy kind of monoflipper. Bonny simply assumes that he likes to play dress up, and doesn't even notice that it moves impossibly well for such a simple costume.
    • Bonny's mother Edith is a skilled surfer, who has tried and failed to teach her daughter how to surf also due to the fact that Bonny keeps running around with her board to bonk strangers on the beach in the head with it, or simply using it to drag herself around on the shoreline using her arms while laying on top of it.
    • Bonny dislikes shoes, having used to wear sandals almost exclusively until her hypersensitivity to touch thanks to her transformation forced her to discard any prospect of footwear entirely. Her tendency to hang around on the beach means she unfortunately tracks sand everywhere after each time she visits it, and in her typical oblivious manner she always acts surprised that this seems to occur.
    • Ever since her Mythian side manifested, Bonny has literally lacked a brain. Her skull is vacant, her nervous system instead having spread her neurons all across her body in a far less concentrated form. This hasn't affected her intellect even slightly, but she now can't help but grin knowingly at the prospect of actually being brainless.

  • Name: Gemma Chambers
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Mythian Species: Gnome
  • Abilities:
    • Living Stone: Gemma's true Mythian form is composed entirely of stone and dirt, giving her exceptional durability that carries over into her human form. Breaking her skin requires the same amount of force it would take to break solid rock.
    • Crystal Growth: In her true form, gem-like crystals grow from Gemma's back. These can be broken off painlessly, and tend to be quite sharp.
    • Earthmover: When Gemma's feet are touching the ground, she can impose limited control over the ground around her in a two-meter radius. Mostly good for raising it into barricades or collapsing it into pits.
    • Molten Blood: The "blood" running through Gemma's veins is actually magma. While admittedly less of an ability and more a danger to herself and others, this can come in handy in a pinch.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Earth-bound: As a spirit of earth, Gemma must remain in contact with it most of the time. To this end, she cannot wear shoes or socks as they come between her body and the ground. After 6 hours without ground contact, she becomes lightheaded, and 12 hours of separation is enough to leave her comatose.
    • Dense: Due to her true form being composed of stone, Gemma is physically very dense and thus unable to float or swim.
    • Shedding: As she's still adapting to her Mythian form, Gemma hasn't yet learned to keep the dirt that makes up the outer layer of her skin attached to her. As a result, she tends to track dirt when she walks if she's not paying attention. The people who notice generally blame this on her going barefoot outdoors.
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Introverted but not shy, Gemma would just as soon sit at home with a good book as hang out with her friends at the mall or wherever they decide to drag her that day. While she has a hard time saying no to people she likes, she can be exceptionally stubborn to those she dislikes or doesn't know as well. Despite being an earth elemental, Gemma tends to have her head in the clouds, thinking about some fantasy novel or another.
  • Backstory: The Sunnyside Caverns are a system of caves on the outskirts of Sunnyside, opposite the ocean. They aren't very deep and they've long since been explored, so they're really nothing more than a minor tourist attraction. Still, caves attract gnomes. And those caves were where Archibald and Kristine Chambers met. The two elementals hit it off right away, and ended up settling down in Sunnyside, where they had Gemma. As her parents were both gnomes and had no need to keep up the masquerade in their own household, Gemma was made aware of her true nature as soon as she was old enough to keep a secret, and knowing that she was a fantastical creature spurred her love of fantasy novels. As such, it came as no surprise when she turned 16 and gained access to her true form. Though the shedding is annoying.
  • Etc.: Archibald works as a tour guide to the Sunnyside Caverns, while Kristine is a cook at a seaside restaurant. Gemma also has a 10-year old brother named Richard.

Dragon(s) time grin

  • Name: Cory (Takcorian) and Lu (Luperian) Tusia
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: smile
  • Mythian Species: Dragon
    • Abilities: Alas, the twins are still young and as such their respective true forms are small (and adorable) whelps that lack much of the raw power you would expect of a dragon. Still though, they are capable of flight for short periods (usually to get between perches) and also they possess the ever popular fire breath even if it's no stronger than a lighter right now.
  • Appearance: Lu on the left, Cori on the right.
  • Personality:
    • Both of the twins have fully embraced the traits of archetypal dragons and with that has come what might be seen as a completely unearned level of ego. They stride through the world like they are untouchable; an utter confidence that together there is nothing they cannot overcome. Oh sure, they both try and be outgoing social butterflies who claim to be human as can be but there is always that undercurrent that each sees only each other and their mother as their equals.
    • Cory focuses on how the 'old dragons' of their mother's stories could be magnificent and a bastion of histories. They try and push forth into the world a sense of unbreakable grace and even a hard to place sense of beauty. To Cory, the stories of old dragons (and even other fantastical things like mortal wizards or other monsters) is a gold mine of aesthetics and aspirations to replicate as much as the modern world will allow. They dream of arcane power and harmonious blessings of nature, though under it all a chilling void haunts them.
    • Lu sees dragons as a force of strength and change, beings that can alter the world for the better. They embrace a modern, almost scrappy fashion sense and revel in music with an energy to match their own. They are willing to get involved with the problems of others or merely intervene just to help shake up their stagnant lives. They envison themselves as a chaotic and enlightening flame, but can't seem to shake a sense of futility that clings to their efforts.
  • Backstory:
    • Right from the start the twins knew they were dragons: Their mother would tell them of the glory in their blood and raised them on their 'native' culture and when their true forms began to came in early one summer she took them both on a vacation to the foothills of Mount Ritter where for the first time the twins could see the true form of their mother that was too large to ever manifest at home. And yet through it all their mother stressed secrecy, that the glory of their truth was to kept hidden from all but the most trusted confidants. She was open with her fear that her most precious treasures would be taken from her.
    • It was only once they were old enough to understand that their mother shared her own tale and the reason for her fear: her father was a powerful but malevolent dragon slain by humans and in her escape from both her father's evil and the genocidal wrath of humanity she was captured and kept and harvested for what felt like so long before some other force disrupted the facility enough to let her escape, covered in scars and prosthesis. And yet, she left out anything about the father of the twins, only that he was another black-scaled dragon like the twins and their mother.
  • Etc:
    • Home is kind of a mess because the twins' mother has most of the house devoted to an eclectic hoard of whatever she could find and safely store. The twins have their own smaller hoards, mostly comprising of a quantity of coin they carry as part of their everyday carry.
    • They have been known to completely swap aesthetics with each other just to see if others could tell the difference. Most of the time, the deception couldn't be figured out.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Name:Ghada "Gadget" Jette

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Mythian Species:Gremlin

Abilities:

  • Mechanical Affinity: Ghada has a 'knack' for machinery, especially vehicles. She can figure out ways for machinery to fit together, even if it wasn't the way originally created to. She also can feel when a piece of machinery isn't working right on a mechanical level.

  • Techno-kintetic: Ghada can 'project' energy into a mechanical system. She can either project a quick burst, leaving her tired, that will cause a mechanism to likely break down, or give a gradual 'aura' effect for machinery she is in close proximity to, causing the machinery to run at theoretical 'optimal' levels. Her ability to generate and store this energy is still growing; her current limits are about an hour sustained 'boost' or about a 50/50 shot at being able to stop a regularly maintained machine. (The better maintained a machine is, the less likely she is able to stop it. ))

  • Shape Shifting(One alternate form): Ghada can shape shift into a mouse-like form, with round ears and a tail, and her human form. In mouse form she can still understand human speech but can not be understood, as her voice is now too high pitched. Her mouse form somehow retains Ghada's normal strength but has to deal with problems of leverage and mass.

  • Clothing shifting: Anything Ghada is wearing or holding will shrink when Ghada shrinks. Even if she takes it off the item will return to normal size the next time Ghada reverts, however it will not then reshrink unless Ghada is again holding it when she shrinks. Holes will magicly form for her tail and ears if needed. If she is holding something when she is in mouse form, it will still be the same size when she goes human=form. A shrunken item will reduce in mass to the expected mass of its new size, but will be much more durable, leading Ghada to suspect some form of space-compression. The object has to be in contact with Ghada's skin, and her current mass limit of shrinking seems to be about five pounds.

Appearance: In human form, Ghada is just under 5' tall, with reddish-brown hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. She usually wears cover-alls and welding goggles. In mouse forms, Ghada is about 2' tall, with white fur, reddish brown hair, large round ears, and a tail. She looks like a mouse-human hybrid, except mouse sized. Human Form

Personality: Ghada is easily excitable and distracted. She LOVES working on cars, and doesn't understand why people don't always like the modifications she makes on them. Many of her pet projects are odd, such as turning a mini-van into a massive speed machine or turning a sports-car into an off-road torque monster.

Backstory: Ghada's family are second generation German emigrants who run a car shop. Ghada is the youngest of four children and the only girl; her father, mother, and three older brothers are all mechanics at the shop and have taught Ghada her skills. Ghada, however, has an... eccentric view of the world, more interested in what something could be then what something was meant to be. Ghada's family tend to give Ghada the problems that noone else can fix, because Ghada's modifications always work.... just not always (or even usually) the way you would expect them to. While Ghada is the only living member of her family to have the full gremlin / shapeshifting packing, all of her family have some form of mechanical affinity and both her father and mother have family legends of their line being part gremlin.

Et cetera: Ghada usually carries around a bunch of tools in her pockets along with pieces of whatever project she is currently working on. She is somewhat on the autism spectrum, being better able to understand machines then people.

Private vehicle: A heavily modified 1975 AMC Gremlin. First bought by Ghada's grandfather, then given to Ghada's father for his first car, the car has now been passed to Ghada. Like the Ship of Theseus, practically every part of this vehicle has been replaced at least once. Car has a 6 Speed Manual Racing Transmission and various other modifications to make it (despite its outward appearance) into a street racing machine.

  • Name: Lupa Garouch
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Mythian Species: Werewolf
  • Abilities:
    • Big Bad Wolf: As a werewolf, Lupa can switch between a human or a wolf and anything in between. In her half-wolf state, her strength and speed are increased and her senses are further enhanced. The closer she is to a wolf, the more powerful she becomes. Her instincts become stronger, alerting her to danger and serving as a sixth sense. As a full wolf, her abilities reach their peak, and she can crunch the strongest metal between her jaws.
    • In The Name of The Moon: As a werewolf, Lupa has a natural connection to the moon and can draw upon it to increase her strength or heal her wounds. The less full the moon is, the less power she can draw from, but it's useful in a pinch.
    • Werwolf Incontinence: As strong as Lupa is, she's only become a werewolf recently and doesn't know how to be one. Without anyone to teach her, she's had to figure it out herself, but there's only so much she can do. Her state of transformation depends on her mood and the lunar cycle. The angrier she gets, the harder it is to control it, and the moon only makes it worse. Because of this, she's often in a partially transformed state and not by choice. Under a full moon, it becomes impossible to control and she turns into a full wolf. Her lack of control has left her frustrated, but until she gets a proper teacher, there's not much she can do.
    • Nightmare in Silver: As a werewolf, Lupa is incredibly durable, but has a few chinks in her armor. Silver bullets easily pierce her skin, but anything silver has a chance of causing her harm. Wolfsbane is less detrimental, but it can sap her strength and leave her weak if she's not careful.
  • Appearance: Teen Wolf. She has human and wolf forms, but has difficulty switching between them at will. Because of this, she tends to be stuck in the middle. Human form is 5'7, half-wolf is 6'7.
  • Personality: Lupa is gruff, terse and straightforward. She's a woman of few words, preferring action over diplomacy. She always sees the simple solution and won't let anything get in the way of achieving it. She does have a softer side, even a sense of humor, but her pessimism and dour nature tend to obscure it. Since becoming a wolf, she's grown an appreciation for nature, her gentler side tending to show whenever she basks in the wilderness. But with her current situation, she's more frustrated than anything.
    • Apart from that, she's a major nerd. She loves science fiction and fantasy, comics and action flicks, anything that gives her an escape. Ask her the most obscure bit of trivia and she'll give you an answer, and she'll usually be right. She doesn't always say much, but appealing to her interests is a good way to get her talking.
  • Backstory: Lupa wasn't born a mythian. She was a normal girl in a normal town, living a normal life. About the only abnormal thing she did was hotwire cars for funsies and even that was out of boredom. Her parents were perfectly average, if a bit distant, pushing for a boring but steady job when that was the last thing she wanted. She didn't have an outstanding heritage or many special talents, didn't excel in school or anything else. She was an ordinary human being with nothing else to her name.
    • But it wasn't enough. She wanted something more. She wasn't sure what, but she wouldn't rest until she found it. She started looking around, searching for anything that could fill the void. For the first few months, she came up empty, but she soon found it. She didn't have evidence, but there were rumors of monsters in the woods. Ferocious beasts beyond comprehension. She wasn't sure they were real, but maybe it was what she was looking for.
    • And then they came. A small group of teenagers she had never meet, but they wanted to meet her. They had heard about her little monster hunt and said they could help. Lupa was wary, but it was the best shot she had.
    • The next night, they entered the forest. They crept along the forest trail, walking straight ahead until they reached a large den. The teens told her to step inside. All she had to do was go in and take a look, and all her dreams would come true. But she wasn't sure she wanted to. She couldn't put her finger on it, but something about this felt wrong. Before she could turn around, the teens shoved a gun and silver bullet in her hand and threw her in. She should have run, clawed her way out if she had to, but she wouldn't get the chance.
    • The rest was a blur. The next morning, she woke up in the middle of the woods, sprawled on the ground and her clothes in tatters. Her head was aching and her shoulder hurt something fierce. Something had bit her, but she wasn't sure what. She was halfway through the woods when she felt it. It was like tugging on a string, only she was on the other end. Something was calling her, planting a seed that would soon bear fruit. She could feel the earth under her feet, smell the blood on the wind, sense the world around her in ways she never thought possible. She felt the urge to hunt, to race into the wilderness and run free, and she was sorely tempted.
    • But it was too much too fast. It happened so quickly, she barely had a chance to think. She didn't know what was happening or why, only that it was. But it wasn't the end of it. Slowly but surely, her body began to change, the moon and her mood causing her to transform without a moment's notice. In the three weeks since the incident, she's no closer to controlling it. In the end, she got what she wanted, but lost what she had. Even if she never wanted it in the first place.
  • Etc: Since her transformation, Lupa hasn't returned home, afraid of what her parents might do if they found out. But they soon noticed she was missing. They called her friends, her teachers, everyone. But no-one knew where she had gone. And the police weren't much better. They performed a quick search, but they came up empty. Since then, they've pulled out all the stops. They've put up posters, sent out amber alerts, filed missing person reports and everything under the sun. It's possible she ran away from home, and they wouldn't blame her if she did. But they've stopped searching for her.

      • Wispy Existence: As a Djinn, Jhin's body is technically made of magical smoke and wisps of energy. So long as he's aware of the immediate situation, he can "evaporate" as needed, but if something takes him by surprise he can get hurt just as easily as anyone else.
      • Slave of the Lamp: Jhin carries his "bottle" around him at all times for safe keeping, but should someone get their hands on it, Jhin will be enslaved to them for a full day, or until 3 "Wishes" are granted for them. His magic is enhanced while enslaved, but as he has no control over it, it's more of a detriment if someone uncouth ends up with it in his possession.
      • Magical Might: Being a Djinni, Jhin has minor magical control but no where near the reality warping ability of that of a full grown Djinn. He can fly, make illusions, and transform in certain events. However, these powers are severely limited, and unless he is granting wishes for a "Master", they're hardly worthwhile.
  • Appearance: You ain't never had a friend like him.
  • Personality: Media has made Djinn/Genies the life of the party, high energy tricksters and pranksters, and backstabbing monsters in others. Truth be told, Jhin's just...lazy. Honestly, at most he's got the makings of a stoner. He likes to sit around, letting his magic do all the work for him and when he's in his non-human form, hates not flying as he thinks "sitting and using my human body is the most limiting thing ever". He's got an intense fear of having a "Master", as it takes control away from him and will go to extreme lengths to get it back.
  • Backstory: Honestly it was a tale as old as time. A Sultan having been given a lamp by a neighboring kingdom as a sign of peace, and after dismissing it as nothing more than rusted junk, found it harbored a Djinn, capable of granting him incredible wishes the likes of which one could only dream of. The Sultan, Aluad, was a man of simple want and need, did not require riches, power, or the like. So he took his sweet time coming up with what wishes he could want, and in that time, got to know the Djinn, Sayri. In the time it took to truly get to know her, Alaud fell in love with her and made only two wishes: His immortality, her immortality, and her freedom from the lamp. With their lives secured, they would spend countless years traveling the world under different names, identities, having grand adventures few could only dream of. However, when it was time to settle down, they settled down right in Sunnyside California. Of course, how could they ever have expected their son, Jhin, at the ripe age of 16, would be experiencing very familiar feelings of having Djinn blood. Upon discovering his new powers, Jhin felt a combination of fear and mild excitement. After all, having magical powers sounded like fun...right? Oh, if only he knew.

  • Name: Frances Kim
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Mythian Species: Gumiho (Nine-tailed fox)
    • Abilities: Can shapeshift into other people/animals temporarily, if she has tissue samples, such as hair, fingernails, or bones. However, hounds can tell that she is not who she pretends to be by her smell. She can also cause hallucinations in other people by giving fake sensory inputs.
  • Appearance: In nominal form, she is about 165 cm tall, with long, silver hair. In fox form, she is a female fox with silver fur and nine tails.
  • Personality: Frances is a people pleaser on the outside, and cunning and manipulative on the inside. She prefers to keep people believing what they want to believe rather than upset them. She is used to lying from a young age and is excited to have acquired supernatural skills for deception. Frances does not have any moral qualms about lying, as she saw her parents lie a lot when she is young, and she keeps having to lie about her identity. She only fears the consequences of being found out. Unfortunately, she is starting to forget how to be honest, and who she really is.
  • Backstory: Frances' father was also a gumiho, who used his abilities to commit fraud. After being wanted by the police, he changed their names and appearances and fled with his family several times. Now, they are in Sunnyside, pretending to be an investment guru while scamming his clients. As a consequence, Frances does not know what her name at birth was, or what her parents' real names are.
Frances was instructed from a young age to lie about what her parents do for a living, and not to tell other grown-ups about the specific whereabouts of her parents. As a result, she became very good at lying.
Now that Frances is a gumiho too, her dad is trying to make her the heir to his criminal dynasty.

  • Name: Nick Flamel
  • Age: 18
  • Gender: Male
  • Mythian Species: Pheonix
  • Abilities:
    • Power over fire and wind: Nick can not produce fire and wind, but he can control that which already exists to a near surgical degree. He's practically required to carry around a lighter and a fan if he wants to make use of this power, but when he does use it he can control it into various shapes and exert force through them, though he can only so much unless he has a better source than what he's using. More natural winds can even allow him to fly...though, he still hasn't gotten the hang of it, causing him to crash more often than not.
    • Crazy regeneration: Nick can heal himself of most damage to his being, including organs and limbs (though it will take time depending on the severity). This is his main and most powerful ability, but it does not make him immortal. A good decapitation or mortal blow to a vital area (heart, brain, etc.) will firmly kill him and shunt him off to his next reincarnation.
    • Medical knowledge: Something that wasn't granted by the knowledge of his many lives, Nick knows how to treat other with first aid and small-time surgery. He doesn't know how to extend his power of regeneration unto others, and likely won't figure it out for another twenty years.
    • Chi: a source of life energy that flows in all things. Nick can harness this energy to boost himself or others, or shoot projectiles from it, and since it is non-magical in nature it can bypass those types of defenses. However, his severe lack of knowledge in how to use it and the inability to learn more about it due to him being in America means it is fairly weak, like a first tier spell in a video game. Still better than nothing.
  • Appearance: Short blond hair, a labcoat, and sunglasses? This 5'4 madman is never seen without a skateboard somewhere nearby. A bit average in looks, but he makes up for it with being a bit crafty, having hidden knee and elbow guards in his pants and shirt. Always, ALWAYS wears a helmet when skating.
  • Personality: Nick is...he's a bizarre guy, somehow blending in nerdiness with cool into some strange slurry of personality. Laidback, well-meaning, and a small spattering of cockiness makes this cool dude one odd man. Occasionally he'll spout off some philosophical nonsense and seem to fix his posture into something resembling the sage he's known to really be deep down.
  • Backstory: Nick, the newest reincarnation of the immortal Phoenix, is certainly an odd case among the many generations (maybe the whole reincarnation thing is finally catching up to his soul and he's having a mid-reincarnate crisis?) Where one would expect a wise sage, Nick decided to become a rad doctor instead. Sadly, although Nick may seem cheerful he does a bad case of horrible luck due to a powerful witch's curse that's followed him into this life. Potted plants falling on him, being hit by cars, it's all nearly harmless (and somewhat comedic) thanks to his regeneration, but it's only a matter of time before something truly kills him. In the meantime, he'll ignore the voices in his head telling him to become more sagely and skate away the day. Better to just go with the flow. So he's a phoenix, so what? Kung fu is cool, but have you seen his wicked kickflip!?
  • Etc:
    • I didn't notice someone else did a firebird until I was 3/4th's done, and it was either this or the bizarre half vampire, half fairy I was originally going to do.
    • His mom is a doctor and what inspired him to become a doctor himself, and his father is a retired stuntman, now a salesman. They're both surprised that their son is a Phoenix, but at the end of the day they both agreed that it didn't really matter. He's still their son, past lives and crazy powers or no.
    • Up until he was sixteen, the only power he had was his regeneration. This has saved him many, many times, and despite being a phoenix fire still hurts him. He'll regenerate from the damage, but he'll still panic over the pain.

I cannot in good faith accept him as he is now.

He comes across as way too powerful, and some of the powers are described in a vague and self-impressed sort of way that sets off my "trying to be the main character of the RP" senses. Having him in the RP would it seems warp the entire RP around his presence, and I'm not fond of having that happen.

Fair enough, and I apologize for having it seem that way. I was trying to go for a sort of "cool sensei." A team player, butt of many jokes, and NOT the main character. Do you mind if I try the half vampire, half fairy idea then? Or should I edit his powers to show off limitations and whatnot?

The powers would definitely need to be significantly edited down.
