It's been sheer chaos the past few weeks. At first, strange, gigantic machines, most shaped like humanoids, appeared out of nowhere all across the globe, stirring up a media frenzy and conspiracy theories and scientific intrigue in the alien devices soon became widespread. In the areas they appeared, cases of an unknown psychosis began to appear, with several people claiming that the machines were calling to them. The machines were cordoned off, and the next few days hung in the quiet tension of this otherworldly discovery. Some brave (or foolish) few souls managed to clamber into these machines, causing them to stir and move, active once more. It was soon discovered that not only did these machines possess technology far from terrestrial, but they seemed to defy the very laws of science, able to conjure up energies and weapons from seemingly nothing. They became known as "Elementals" in casual parlance, owing to their themed abilities and incredible power.

And then there was the invasion.

Scarcely a week after these Elementals appeared, alien ships began to appear over the skies of Earth, unleashing a swarm of their own humanoid fighting machines on the world below. Their focus: the Elementals, with no regard for the humans often surrounding them. Destruction. Confusion. Desperation. All these abounded as the world scrambled to try and defend themselves against these strange new machines, to very little effect. Earth's heaviest weapons could put a dent and take down a few of these mechanical monsters, but it's a losing battle, losing more ground that was gained. Earth would only stall the inevitable.

But within despair there is hope. The Elementals, binded with a pilot, proved to be highly effective at dealing with these "Mechanical Fighers", easily dispatching squads of them with their awesome power. People all across the world had climbed into these magical machines to protect those things they held dear, for fun or curiosity, or perhaps to use their power for their own selfish goals.

But now it is clear that if Earth is to stand a chance against these invaders, it will need the help of these god-like machines, and the souls piloting them, and the militaries of the world have made joint efforts to unite and bring these people to the effort to protect the planet and its inhabitants, unofficially dubbed the Joint Elemental Company.

You are one of these people.

You are hope, the light to tear through the encroaching darkness of defeat.

Hello everyone! Undying Phoenix here with a very heavily Super Robot themed RP. This RP takes heavy inspiration from an obscure old mecha tactics game by the name of The Battle of Youstrass, adapted for a more mundane setting on Earth, so familiarity with that is not required at all. In this RP, your characters are pilots of the Elementals, incredibly powerful, magical mecha that draw power from their pilot's emotions and spirit to power themselves and their "elemental" abilities, gathered from all across Earth to fight back against alien invaders and their Real Robot mechs. While this is very much a Super Robot thing, there are still some Real Robot influences in regards to the storyline, so do be prepared for things to take a less idealistic bend. With all that said, on to the primer and the sheet!

    Terminology Primer

  • Elemental: A giant machine, powered by an "Elemental Engine", which is a mysterious, as-yet-not-understood sphere of energy located in the mech's core. Shows signs of sentience and sapience, and draws upon a bonded pilot's willpower, emotional energy and motivation to fuel itself.

  • Elemental Barrier: Also simply known as "Barrier". An invisible wall of force that activates to defend an Elemental from physical and Elemental attacks. Only mechs possessing an Elemental Engine have a barrier.

  • Elemental Attack: An attack powered by an Elemental's element, drawing power from its energy reserves. Normally requires a certain threshold of willpower/motivation to activate, with more complex and powerful ones requiring higher thresholds to be reached. Examples include fireballs, elementally-charged weapons and so on.

  • Mechanical Fighter: The mass-produced mechs that the aliens use, powered by conventional means. Does not possess an Elemental Barrier and hence has no protection from Element-based attacks, but still has conventional armour against physical attacks.

  • Outburst: The result of a bonded pilot's emotions overflowing, driving both Elemental and pilot into a powerful berzerk frenzy, lashing out at friend and foe alike.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Holly Huxley
  • Age: 20
  • Nationality: British
  • Appearance: [1] A young woman with dark skin, brown hair, a slightly stocky build and an overall jovial demeanour. Stands at a height of about 5'6". Prefers to wear simple clothing such as t-shirts and jeans, and likes sandals over shoes. Usually seen with a whistle hung from a string around her neck; which is useful in emergencies. Often wears headphones for her constant music-listening, and she almost never opens her eyes unless she needs to make a point about her blindness.
  • Personality: Holly is upbeat, kindhearted and affectionate with almost everyone she meets. She is enthusiastic when it comes to meeting new people, and is no stranger to physical displays of affection if she decides that they're worthy of being a new friend. Though she can get serious when necessary, she despises conflict and is typically deeply hurt by it even on a secondhand basis—she has a sensitive and highly emotional spirit even though she does her best to keep happy and calm. Holly isn't too offended by those ignorant to her disabilities, but doesn't shy away from snarky remarks at their expense behind their back, and she ultimately appreciates it the most when people have the kindness to slow themselves down for the sake of her limitations. Holly has an intense love of music and rhythm, and is able to focus better whenever she's listening to something.
  • Skills/Abilities/Gear:
    • Superhuman Hearing: Thanks to her connection with her mech, Holly has developed a supernatural sensitivity to sound that allows her to perceive even a pin dropping in the next room over. Through this, she is able to navigate her surroundings using auditory information alone, allowing her to act with relative autonomy apart from when she's in particularly noisy environments. To help mitigate sensory overload, she often listens to music so that she can focus on a constant sound at any given time.
  • Backstory:
    • Born in Britain to a low-income family, Holly grew up used to being happy with whatever she had, finding simple pleasures as luxuries and outright considering her music player a gift from God when she was first given it. Having been born with thick cataracts and a severe speech impediment, Holly eventually learned to rely on sign language and her sensitive hearing to get around; able to act with relative autonomy to the surprise of her peers and parents. Though she never learned how to speak audibly, Holly has become very chatty in the nonverbal sense, and her passion and adoration of unique sounds and beats almost define her entire life. It wasn't until the event that conjured Elementals unto the world that she felt another calling—a mech crying out to her in loneliness and pain, also blind and voiceless but with no one to help it find its footing.
    • Eventually, the telepathic pain grew too much for Holly to bear, and she soon convinced her parents through frantic writings to take her to where she was sure the Elemental was located. After a gruelling, several-week roadtrip spent living nomadically, she and her family soon found the lonely Elemental out in the wilderness, and to the chagrin of her parents she wasted no time in clambering into the thing. Quickly melding with the mech, Holly's life was changed forever when she found her sense of hearing drastically bolstered while inside to a superhuman degree—an effect with remained even when they finally separated.
    • Though Holly's conviction that she needed to keep the Elemental deeply concerned her parents, she was eventually proven right when the extraterrestrial attacks began all throughout the world. Once again fighting for her right to take action, Holly proved to her parents that she was capable of handling herself when she took down an alien scout in order to protect her neighbourhood, and after a tearful farewell she began a journey to meet up with other like-minded pilots. Until the alien threat has been handled, Holly has dedicated herself to defending her loved ones with her Elemental by her side; a connection that only deepens the longer she fights within it.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Synesthesia
  • Element: Sound
  • Appearance: Stands at a height of around 12 metres tall, or 40 feet.
  • Abilities and Gear: Synesthesia fits into the role of scout and close-range ground combatant, capable of limited exploratory or travel flight but with a high energy expenditure and low power capacity. It is agile, swift, and keenly aware of its surroundings, but lacks in strength and dedicated defensive techniques and overall structure. Its fairly small size and light frame allows it to zip about and attack rapidly from multiple angles, but without the help of other mechs it struggles severely when fighting against more than one opponent. Synesthesia prefers to act as a support unit rather than a frontline fighter against hordes of tough enemies, but it is happy to adapt and assist its companions in whatever battle it finds itself in. Synesthesia is able to communicate with fellow pirates by transmitting messages directly through radio frequencies, but its fingers are also dexterous enough to use ASL just like its pilot—which is its preferred method of communication whenever Holly's piloting it.
    • Sonokinesis: Synesthesia's elemental ability is to shape and alter soundwaves and acoustic vibrations, albeit only from existing sources. This allows Synesthesia to amplify or nulliy vibrations or sounds, enabling it to weaponize the very stomps of its feet or claps of its hands against its opponents; or alternatively telekinetically weaponize the sounds of its opponent(s) against them. Synesthesia has a limited range of about 30 metres for this kind of sound weaponization, but it can project more harmless disembodied noises in a radius up to 100 metres in order to confuse its opponents while in battle. This means it is extremely dangerous to fight Synesthesia up close, as its sound-based attacks only intensify the closer one is to the source. Synesthesia's sonokinetic elemental barrier is very light due to its reliance on its shield, and can be bypassed easily if one manages to get close enough.
    • Sonokinetic Movement: Synesthesia is able to produce bursts of sonic energy from designated thrusters on its body, allowing it to dodge short distances to the side while on the ground as well as sustain flight for travelling purposes. Though it can fight to a limited extent while in the air, it expends a lot of energy whenever it's trying to fly in combat, so it tends to restrict its flight for the sake of covering distance rather than dedicated aerial combat. While on the ground, Synesthesia can also skate along at high speeds by sonikinetically separating the soles of its feet from the ground, enabling it to accelerate using its sonic thrusters without nearly as much surface friction holding it back. Synesthesia prioritizes agility and speed over strength and defense, and as such its sonikinetic movement is crucial to its survival and success in battle.
    • Vibrosword: A curved blade with a trembling aura, caused by Synesthesia vibrating the air around it. This unstable vibrational force allows it to cut through surfaces by destabilising them, often causing structural breakages simply by drawing near or lightly touching them. The Vibrosword can be adjusted to match the resonant frequency of particular object or creature, allowing it to cut through certain things especially well while leaving others relatively unaffected. The sword is a physical thing that deploys from Synesthesia's left arm, and counts as an Elemental Attack only while vibrating.
    • Vibroshield: Same principle as the above; a physically decently tough shield bolstered by a vibrational property. Once again, the shield can match the resonant frequency of whatever strikes it in order to better defend or counterattack against it, though it fares better against melee strikes than projectiles. The shield is a physical thing attached to Synesthesia's right forearm, and can contract or expand itself for either parrying or full defense. Once again, it counts as an Elemental Attack only while vibrating.
    • Sonic Perception: Synesthesia is highly tuned to the sounds around it, and much like its pilot it is completely blind and as such interprets the world almost entirely through its auditory sensors. It is capable of sensing footsteps, breathing, and even the shifting of small debris upon the floor, which means it's able to paint itself a highly accurate perception of its environment. It suffers somewhat in detecting things in the air due to vibrations travelling differently through it, but it is still able to manoeuvre itself fairly well even despite this. Synesthesia can be fooled by disembodied noises, as it tends to elaborate on sounds it heard for the sake of efficiency, but its attunement to noise means one needs to be smart about tricking its senses.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Rafflesia Ryan
  • Age: 23
  • Nationality: Irish-American
  • Appearance: 6'2" and muscular. Not pictured are her many tattoos. She has a sleeve down each arm of various thorny flowers, interspersed with tribal lines. Her right bicep has crossed swords, and there’s a large rose on her back.
  • Personality: Confident, bullheaded, with a desire to prove herself. Rafflesia is strong both physically and mentally, and enjoys the thrill of fighting. She’ll readily accept if someone challenges her to a wrestling match. She’s not bloodthirsty, but it’s quite difficult to get her to back down once she’s set her mind on something. Fiercely protective of those she considers friends.
  • Skills/Abilities/Gear:
    • Mundane Skills: Rafflesia has some basic firearms training, though she prefers knives, and is quite skilled at both knife fighting and wrestling. She’s also something of a casual survivalist, knowing how to hunt and start fires.
    • Blade Attunement: Gáe Bulg’s weapon summoning transferred over to her in limited form. While smaller, her blades are still quite variable - she can summon basically anything you’d see in a swiss army knife.
  • Backstory: Daughter of an American and a first-generation Irish immigrant, Rafflesia grew up rather uneventfully in rural Colorado. Well-known in her small town as a star of the wrestling team, and as something of a punk. Not particularly interested in higher education, Rafflesia started working out of high school, getting a job as private security. On the side, she pursued her real passion: metalworking. Starting as a hobby, Rafflesia eventually began selling custom-made knives online.
    • It was by chance, when she was hiking through the woods, that she felt something calling to her. Rafflesia doesn’t believe in destiny, but it felt right, climbing into the jagged monstrosity she’d found. Not that she knew what to do with it… at least until a week later, when the first ships started descending from the sky. Her joining the JEC was more or less inevitable.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Gáe Bulg
  • Element: Blade
  • Appearance: Stands about 12m tall.
  • Abilities and Gear: Focused primarily on speed and cutting power, though with a slightly weaker Barrier in exchange. Because of its high speed and focus on melee weapons, it is highly adept at close-range combat.
    • Living Armory: In addition to being covered in blades already, Gáe Bulg’s Element enhances its weapon summoning. Not limited to basic swords, it can conjure many different kinds of bladed weapons - axes, knives, spears, bladed whips, and razor wire are all possible. The blades it summons visibly seem to emerge from the thorns on its body, though it can detach them at will.
    • Thousand Thorns that Pierce with Death: By focusing on a melee weapon, it can force said weapon to explode into barbed thorns in all directions. The primary use of this power is after an enemy has already been pierced - the resulting thorns will tear them apart from the inside. Since it can do this with any of the blades covering its sharp body, merely touching Gáe Bulg is dangerous for enemies.
    • Sword Storm: Gáe Bulg can launch it’s blades at high speed. This is its only actual projectile attack, and is fairly short-ranged in keeping with its melee focus, useful primarily for surprising enemies who try to stay out of melee range.

  • Name: Maxwell Hartman

  • Age: 24

  • Nationality: American

  • Appearance: A man with an average build, with a slight belly on him. Salt-and-Pepper hair that has more salt than pepper, pale skinned, with green eyes. Tends to wear darker clothes, most often wearing a hooded vest and slacks.

  • Personality: Usually amicable, if a bit reserved. Due to recent events, he’s more often than not fuming, prone to fits of anger, hidden beneath a neutral façade.

  • Skills/Abilities/Gear:
    • Static Field: From the bond with his Elemental, there’s a constant slight wind that comes off him and a persistent static field coming off his skin. It can’t damage anything, but is good for charging a phone and grants slight resistance to electricity, as well as improved conductivity.

  • Backstory:
    • Born as the only child of Lauren and Jack Hartman, Maxwell is the heir apparent for a company called Hartman Robotics. Hartman Robotics was a new and surprisingly effective company known for their highly efficient production robot and was rumored to be developing a fully autonomous household robot that was affordable for the general public. With such high praise from this new titan of industry, it was of little surprise when a small company based out of Okinawa reached out to form a business deal, asking for Maxwell's parents by name. And so, the Hartman's packed up and departed, with their son in tow, scarcely a few week after the appearance of the mysterious Elementals. He couldn't tell you why he was so insistent to join his parents, but it was like...he had to be there.
    • While work seemed to be going well for a week, Maxwell couldn't shake the feeling that something was going wrong. He had gone into the facility to ask for leave to head to the mainland to visit Tokyo or Kyoto...when the invasion struck. Mechanical Fighters dropped from the sky, led by a commanding unit, nearly razing the upper floors in an instant.
    • Frightened and off-guard, Maxwell began to flee deeper into the facility with the remaining staff. One by one, he watched the group thin out, picked off by stray rounds or cut off by falling rubble, he last saw his parents behind a pile of concrete, but he could not stop now. Deeper and deeper into the bowels of the factory they ran...no, it was less a factory now, it looks like an archive. Workers began to be replaced by people in white coats, and then the rows of servers and logbooks gave way...to a hanger.
    • It was there, they first met, a young man, and the strange massive machine he would come to call his partner. It took mere moments for Maxwell to know that this was why he was here. The rumbling was getting louder, the colossal machines that had upturned and threatened his life in an instant would soon be tearing through the walls as they had above. Maxwell, guided by a voice only he could discern, clambered the scaffolding, found his opening, climbed into the Elemental...and blacked out.
    • Memories didn't return easily. Flashes of pain, guttural screaming, scattered machine parts...no, one of them had escaped, a deep gash across it's cockpit. The air smelled of ozone, of ash...of blood. No matter how much he searched the ruins, Maxwell never found even a trace of his parent's bodies. With a heavy heart, he left the smoldering ruins behind. The JEC found him soon after, and took him in.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Sylpheed

  • Element: Storm

  • Appearance: Standing at a solid 12 meters tall, the Sylpheed cuts a similar silhouette to this beauty, though the machine carries a mainly green color scheme, with bright yellow highlights on the edges of the shoulders and around its wrists and down its legs. While it doesn't have a full on face for a body, the main vision sensors are housed there and while it does have a more standard looking "Mecha" head, it is actually a false head that only serves as a cover for the cockpit hatch. Sylpheed also features small stylistic fins running down the back of the legs. The profile is also streamlined for speed

  • Abilities and Gear:
    • Extreme Movement: True to it's Element's tendency to appear without warning, the Sylpheed is sooner seen than heard, capable of speeds able to momentarily break the sound barrier in short bursts. It also has incredible jumping ability and can achieve short term flight.
    • Livewire: A retractable, whip-like attachment fitted beneath Sylpheed's right wrist. Can be charged with electricity and used to grapple opponents and pull them in.
    • Shock Dusters: Pop-up barrels located above each wrist, these ports burst with crackling plasma with each punch, making the Sylpheed dangerous in close combat.
    • Sky-Splitter: A needle-like detachable blade located beneath the left wrist. Can function as a hook to drive a left jab in deeper, or be removed and used as a proper sword charged with electricity.
    • Blitz Gun: A standard manifested firearm, specifically a one-handed shotgun...that shoots lightning. Useful when melee really isn't viable.

Pilot

  • Name: Fleur Leblanc
  • Age: 22
  • Nationality: French
  • Appearance:
    • Fleur has strawberry blond hair worn in a braid and light green eyes.
    • She wears an elegant but simple pink top and skirt, a white scarf, opal leggings, and simple gray heeled sandals.
    • She's around 5'4" feet tall and is somewhat thin.
  • Personality:
    • On the outside, Fleur acts like your typical spoiled and haughty rich girl. She can be seen looking down on others who aren't wealthy and tends to boast about her status. This is best shown by her expensive and questionable spending habits (mainly clothes and food).
    • However, on the inside, she has severe insecurities about herself and fears she isn't good enough for anyone, thus she keeps up the haughty rich girl facade, which gives her somewhat high confidence and motivation, which is the main source that powers her Elemental as she needs to live up to the image she has created. Because of that, sometimes she might get extremely anxious about her image which will demotivate her and weaken her Elemental.
    • If one manages to get to know her beyond the facade, Fleur becomes gentle and extremely loyal to them. If Fleur manages to break free from her facade and becomes a much better person overall, she would be able to use the bonds of her close friends to power up her Elemental.
  • Abilities:
    • Eye for Value: Through her bond with her Elemental, Fleur can detect the most valuable items within 50 feet of her. They can be really expensive dresses, a historic relic, bars of gold, or anything with high value in general.
    • Sweet Tooth: Also a side-effect from the bond of her Elemental, eating desserts can hasten the recovery of any wounds Fleur receives and give her a temporary speed boost.
  • Backstory:
    • Fleur Leblanc is the sole child of a wealthy French millionaire, Estelle Leblanc. Ever since childhood, Fleur was consistently belittled by her mother for the smallest of things and was forced to follow her very strict rules and orders as Estelle wanted Fleur to have a 100% reputable image amongst the rich and to be able to carry on her legacy.
    • Then, on a particular night, Fleur and Estelle got into a big argument over the latter wanting to marry off the former, which didn't want that. Fleur ended up running away to the nearest forest in tears and discovered something special — an Elemental. She approaches the Elemental, touched it and ended up climbing in it.
    • Fleur returned home with the Elemental, which shocked and confused Estelle at first but she knew the Elemental had potential. Then, once the alien invasion began, Estelle sent Fleur to the JEC, hoping that both of their names will be boosted.

Mecha

  • Name: Madame DĂ©ficit
  • Element: Extravgance
  • Appearance:
    • Madame DĂ©ficit is around 40 feet tall, decked in silver and gold, has glowing pupilless blue eyes, and a feminine figure.
    • DĂ©ficit has something that resembles a short metal Pouf and a wide pannier with a slit in the middle.
    • Its feet resemble that of detailed heels wrapped by golden roses and vines.
  • Abilities and Gear:
    • Elegant Fans: DĂ©ficit is capable of conjuring up large, metallic 18th-century fans that serve as its main weapon. It can be used to block attacks, be thrown at enemies, or directly strike foes like a blade.
    • Graceful Like the Wind: DĂ©ficit is highly agile, being able to dodge attacks with ease, but if it takes a couple of serious hits, it can go down quite easily.
    • The Queen's Joy: DĂ©ficit covers its entire body in shining gold and it can be used to either blind enemies with its light or take several pieces of the gold and use them as throwable bombs.
    • Let Them Eat Cake: DĂ©ficit takes ahold of an enemy and a strange substance that resembles mashed-up cakes is emitted by its hands and enters the enemy's body. The substance is capable of messing up the enemy's body by overwhelming its systems and making it malfunction.

Don't know how well this'll go or if it needs adjusting or needs more/less so just let me know, I guess.

  • Name: Josh Annetts.
  • Age: 21.
  • Nationality: Australian.
  • Appearance: Something like this, I suppose. 5'7, kind of on the scrawny side and with hazel-green eyes. Usually.
  • Personality: Josh is usually rather quiet and introspective, having a tendency to keep his distance from other people and a either completely expressionless or fake smile on his face he's around other people.

    • He's capable of be civil and TRIES to be polite, if rather awkward and occasionally unsure on what to say... although anyone being flat out rude will have him either go completely silent or sneak away and silly jokes at how he's getting used to everything not being 'upside down' or poking fun at stereotypes about his country tends to bring out quite a large amount of subdued sarcasm and with a sigh, just goes along with going it, acting like a 'stereotypical' Australian with the exaggerated accent, slang and going on about dropbears.

    • That isn't to say he's cynical or apathetic though, there's a surprising amount of grit, determination and competitive drive at not to be outdone or stuck in someone's shadow and a strong moral compass that will have him do the right thing, even if it's at his expense.

  • Skills/Abilities/Gear: Scan: Something of a shared ability that both he and his Elemental can use (with the latter having more range and utility). It's rather limited and only works on contact, so for example, placing a hand on the wall of a building will typically give him an image of the layout and any potential structural weaknesses...but not much more than that, so no being able to tell who or what is in the building itself.

    • RGB Readjustment: More of an aesthetic power and typically limited to just himself or non-organic things, Josh can alter his hair and eye color by changing his/it's 'code' in very slight ways. Sometimes it can be done subconsciously depending on his mood, such as his eyes turning a blood red if he somehow managed to get REALLY ticked off, for example.

    • HUD Helper: Again, mostly an aesthetic power, Josh can create holographic displays of the information he's gathered from a scan, his own vital signs, ideas/thoughts and...phone/internet signal.

  • Backstory: The eldest child out of four siblings and born in a middle-class family that seemed to move from place to place nearly every other year because of his parents skills being in constant demand or the fact they simply liked to travel, Josh never really had much of a chance...and eventually, motivation, to try and make friends at the schools he ended up with beyond the few behind a computer monitor.

    • At best, he at least got on well with most of his teachers and was something of a quiet achiever, if constantly overshadowed. Although as time went on, he became more and more of a lonely shut-in, only made worse by bullying and after a rock to the head during his second year of high school...he never set foot in a school again with most lessons being done online or over conference calls.

    • After finishing high-school and picking up several certificates in IT, his parents flat out refused to move to the big city with the compromise of him being stuck in what was practically a ghost town near where his father managed a farm, where there was little need for his skills or qualifications and stuck wasting time doing accounting or office work.

    • At that point, despite being content to just let himself fade away, a trip to the rarely visited local junkyard to drop off broken printers led to him stumbling across Undefined Variable, perplexed at how something that size and appearance could just be left there to gather rust and sympathizing with being thrown away, unaware that it...wasn't quite the case and stumbling into the cockpit made the Elemental activate. Ghost town or not, hiding something that big from that point wasn't exactly an option at that point.

    • Not longer after the invasion and news online, Josh decided it'd be better to join JEC now and try and make a difference and something out of the opportunity he stumbled across rather than get forced to and dragged into what was going on later.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Undefined Variable.
  • Element: Data.
  • Appearance: I guess it's something like this. Standing at about 11 meters tall with a viridian and emerald color scheme (although that can be modified).
  • Abilities and Gear: Scan: As mentioned above, but with far more range and able to gather more information about a target and detect where a target is behind obstacles/cover.

    • Mode Change!: At default, Undefined is relatively well-rounded in terms of performance, if average in most aspects. By rather swiftly altering Undefined's power output to prioritize a certain aspect over the others to try and adapt to what the situation might call for:

    • Alpha Assault doing what it might suggest, amplifying Undefined's energy output with it's abilites, weaponry and their rate of fire but diverts power away the Barrier. Beta Barrier does the inverse, amplifying the mech's defensive properties and elemental barrier while Delta Driver focuses on mobility and speed. There's likely other modes depending on Josh's emotional state but at the moment, those are the main three.

    • Signal Scramble/Firewall.: Whether it's for attempts at stealth or disrupting the enemy in a battle, Undefined can hack and broadcast jamming signals to throw off or potentially completely stop enemy sensors, alarms and communication, at least temporarily. By extension, it's far harder to have the same tactics work on Variable and any other Elemental nearby.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Kara Steele
  • Age: 22
  • Nationality: American
  • Appearance: [1] [2] Kara is a robust and somewhat heavy set woman with dark hair and eyes, and light blue crystal horns due to her bond with the Gem Elemental; her feet have been lost below the knee and replaced with simple prosthetics made to fit into shoes and provide relatively normal mobility, they come with attachments for additional cosmetic pieces to make the prosthetic less off-putting. She tends to wear a white blouse with a blue tie and skirt and various cardigans as her professional 'uniform' while working with the JEC, she is also a fan of sweaters when she can wear more casual clothes.
  • Personality:
    • Kara is an honest if reserved girl who tries to be friendly to as many people as possible, though she typically takes her time to establish a relationship she can be very loyal to her friends. She can be very stubborn in her ideals and opinions and holds a disdain for those who belittle others for fun or attempt to establish their superiority through force and can be quite sympathetic to victims of these scenarios.
    • Kara views militaries as little more than a necessary evil to keep other threats of violence at bay and is still unsure of working with the JEC. Fighting just for the sake of enforcing order bothers her and military action that doesn't center on protecting human life or otherwise preventing harm may frustrate her, being deceived by her allies/superiors or otherwise being treated as a weapon due to her bond is likely to depress her; but she recognizes that her bond to an Elemental means she is one of the few people who has a chance to stop the aliens and that gives her a sense of duty which combined with her own desire to survive gives her a drive to keep fighting, especially when she is able to protect her more fragile allies or is left as the last line of defense.
  • Skills/Abilities/Gear:
    • Subterranean sense: Due to her bond with Lapis Kara is able to sense her depth underground and the mineral makeup of the earth and objects around her. All together this makes it much easier for her to find her way underground and to notice buried objects or structural weaknesses of caves, tunnels and underground facilities.
    • Blood crystallization: Kara's blood clots much faster than usual by crystalizing around her wounds, this makes it much harder for her to bleed out but doesn't make her any more resistant to damage otherwise.
  • Backstory:
    • The first few days after the news first got out about the mystery machines landing all over the globe made for some interesting buzz and speculation, it seemed like nearly everyone had some theory about them to share, but it didn't quite feel real until the one crashed just a mile away from Kara's college while she was in class. Within hours official looking people arrived to investigate like something out of a UFO movie and the area was secured and everyone was encouraged to go back to acting like everything was normal and any damages to the area were framed as simple construction work. It seemed to work aside from some die hard conspiracy nuts who insisted on trying to sneak over to do their own investigating, but now that it had happened Kara couldn't shake the feeling that she had to see it for herself. She had thought it was simple curiosity at first but no amount of internet research did anything to shake the impression, but what little information she could find suggested she wasn't the only one to feel a 'connection', and that some shady, possibly government, group out there was searching for anyone like that for what sounded like nefarious purposes. Unable to get to the machine herself and unwilling to trust her safety to a possible conspiracy Kara just tried to keep her head down until she could figure out what to do next.
    • Then the invasion came even more suddenly than the falling machines, the military mobilized but were too scattered to do anything but stall the surprise attack while the city evacuated, but Kara's need to see the machine had grown too urgent to ignore and she found herself rushing toward the crash site despite it's proximity to the front line. Sitting amid the chaos and hastily erected scaffolding was the Elemental, a massive armored bipedal machine that seemed to be looking right at her despite it's dull eyes. As she climbed the scaffolding the alien forces finally breached the military defenses, Kara was blown from the structure by their attack and crawled into the machine, spurred on by it's urging and the desperate hope of survival. The last thing Kara remembered before blacking out was the Elemental standing up, seeing the demolished college and damage done to the city before staring down the alien forces.
    • After the battle Kara awoke confused in a hospital, the doctors there weren't able to explain much beyond that they were able to save her life because her blood had apparently crystalized around her wounds before she could lose too much. All her medical expenses had been mysteriously covered including costs for prosthetic replacements for her feet, provided she agreed to meet with the group responsible concerning her connection to the Elemental; seeing as her hospital stay and the crystalline horns now attached to her head made continued hiding from her new benefactors much more difficult, Kara had little choice but to agree.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Lapis
  • Element: Gem
  • Appearance: [3] [4] at 16 meter tall Elemental in heavy steel armor with blue highlights and charcoal material for it's more flexible sections, features a set of bull-like horns made of blue crystal on the sides of it's head and surprisingly alive blue eyes.
  • Abilities and Gear:
    • Tremor sense: While piloting Lapis, Kara's subterranean senses are enhanced in range and capability allowing her and Lapis to feel things nearby on and in the earth and thus "see" regardless of visibility in a certain range. Naturally requires Lapis to maintain contact with the ground to be of use.
    • Steadfast: Lapis is a large Elemental with armor and a barrier built to take a beating and keep on fighting at the expense of some mobility and agility.
    • Multi armed: Lapis has an extra set of arms, they are less dexterous than it's primary set of arms which leads to some difficulty attempting to quadruple-wield weapons but they are no less strong.
    • Burrowing: Thanks to it's connection to the earth Lapis is able to dig through the earth using it's diamond drills nearly as fast as a fish or aquatic mech would swim. This is faster for Lapis than running but also uses more energy.
    • Labrys Lazuli: A heavy axe with double-blades made of blue gemstone which glow when filled with elemental energy. Lapis' primary offensive melee weapon.
    • Sapphire Shield: A tall tower shield usually affixed to one of Lapis' secondary arms for added defense, utilizes an additional Barrier concentrated around it to prevent blocking/deflecting attacks with the shield from causing additional drain to Lapis' primary energy.
    • Garnet Gladius: A shortsword with an orangish-red gem blade that glows when infused with elemental energy, primarily used in Lapis' main hand(s) in combination with it's shield.
    • Diamond Drill: A drill made of diamond that replaces the hand of one or more of Lapis' arms when burrowing, also usable in melee and inflicts elemental damage while spinning.
    • Prismatic Beam: A rifle that fires lasers refracted and focused by elemental gems.
    • Kaleido Cannon: A large cannon fired from Lapis' chest using similar principles to the prismatic Beam but upscaled to devastating levels, requires a high level of willpower and costs a large amount of energy to fire.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Arthur Patrick Cameron
  • Age: 25
  • Nationality: British
  • Appearance: A 6' redheaded man with an average build, with dull blue eyes and a slightly unkempt hairstyle. He tends to wear a button-up shirt, belted trousers, simple black shoes, and an unassuming collared crimson jacket, with a bump cap, styled with a crest-like insignia, sitting atop his head.
  • Personality: A driven soldier much like his predecessors in his family, Arthur is someone who will do anything to complete a mission, even if his service in the Royal Army has been rather short. Despite that, however, his upbringing as a member of a military noble family has taught him a decent amount of discipline, and in most situations, he can be friendly to talk to, if perhaps a little colder than his other contemporaries in the JEC. Deep down, however, he hides a hatred that doesn't seem so easy to erase, especially against the alien invaders.
  • Skills/Abilities/Gear:
    • Increased Hand-Eye Coordination: Bonding with Centurion has given Arthur an increased honing of his hand-eye coordination and bolstered reflexes, giving him the extra benefit of enhancing his hand-to-hand combat training and marksmanship.
    • Stun Baton: Arthur is able to channel electricity into a baton he carries on his person, making a useful self-defense weapon.
  • Backstory:
    • Born to the noble house of Cameron, Arthur was the eldest child of Thomas Cameron, a career officer in the Royal Army. Growing up alongside his younger brother, Henry, Arthur would aspire to be much like his father in pursuing a military career, pushing himself to be the best in whatever obstacle laid before him and ensuring that he would contribute to the family legacy.
    • Not long after his graduation from University Officers Training Corps, he would serve in a small number of operations before being recalled back home by his father, to discuss marriage options. While Arthur wasn't keen on the idea, he rolled with it before he befriended Daisy Fielding, and between the two of them were able to convince their respective families to just drop the idea.
    • With the arrival of the Elementals a few years later, Arthur would naturally feel a connection of some sort with the one that somehow ended up right next to the base he was stationed at, especially as the government made sure to seal off the area from most personnel stationed at the base. A week later, the Mechanical Fighters invaded, Arthur managing to bond with the Elemental in the confusion, and during his desperate counterattack would witness Daisy, Henry and Thomas being killed by the monstrous aliens. The result was that it forged a deep-seething hatred for the aliens as he secured the base from further attack. With the attack halted, the army would eventually have Arthur reassigned to the Joint Elemental Company in hopes of combating the alien invaders and stopping the invasion for good.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Centurion
  • Element: Lightning
  • Appearance: A dark green machine with yellow and red details standing at 15 meters tall with antennae on the head and a heavily-armoured appearance. The head resembles that of a sci-fi soldier's helmet with a faceplate and two sharp optics with a yellow glow. There are hardpoints for presumably where several weapons are supposed to be attached.
  • Abilities and Gear:
    • Legate Rifle: A composite battle rifle with a large bayonet attached underneath, this weapon fires high-grade rounds that work similarly to FMJ rounds, intended as a suppression weapon. The rifle's bullets can also be enhanced with the Centurion's Thunder element, creating a makeshift rail-rifle of sorts.
    • Phalanx Composite Shield: A shield situated on the mech's left arm, this shield is not only capable of deflecting most attacks, it is also equipped with a built-in cannon that can only be used in certain scenarios.
    • Gladius Missile Launcher: A boxy weapon manifested on the left shoulder, this can fire up to four guided missiles at a time, which are designed for creating localised EMP fields, disabling enemy combatants for a short time.
    • Excalibur Combat Sword: The final weapon belonging to Centurion, this broadsword is Centurion's main CQB weapon. While it is useful with the standard piercing capabilities of such a sword, the blade itself can be enhanced with electrical energy, almost akin to Thor with the enchanted hammer Mjolnir.
    • Gungnir Strike: An Elemental Attack belonging to Centurion, this ability involves using the energy cannon built into the Phalanx Composite Shield to fire a powerful energy beam capable of destroying several M Fs in a single strike. This attack can only be engaged if the pilot is determined enough to do it.
    • Hover Boots: Centurion can hover-skate over terrain, allowing to maneuver fairly easily during combat.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Daytona Brisban
  • Age: 23
  • Nationality: American
  • Appearance: What the hell are YOU lookin' at?!
  • Personality: Daytona is a rough and tumble, aggressive, hot-headed young man with a chip on his shoulder for...everyone. He likes a good fight with anyone willing to throw down with him and hates when people are hypocrites, having a deep sense of his own honor and pride and isn't afraid to look like an idiot if it means he sticks to his code of conduct. That being said, he has a soft spot for his little siblings, Riley and Samantha, and likes being their "hero".
Skills/Abilities/Gear:
  • Firestarter: In times of intense anger and passion, Daytona's body is capable of literally lighting small fires, and sometimes Fire comes out of his mouth like some kind of hell demon. He uses it, mostly, to light his cigarettes.
  • Backstory: Growing up in New York, Daytona was destined for the rough and tumble lifestyles of the streets. His father was a known Con Artist, his mother a drunk, it was up to him, for the longest time, to provide for him, and his family, when the literal adults failed at their most basic jobs. He bounced from job to job, never staying long enough to make enough of a dent, but always enough to make sure they had food for a considerable amount of time. He never kept a job for too long for...incredibly loud, angry reasons.
    • When the Elemental dropped down into Central Park, the general populace was split in two parties: Wild excitement, and terrified panic. His brother and sister were part of the former. His father made his own: Excited grifting. He was quick to make the place a tourist trap for the people who were already there, offering tickets like HE Was the one who owned it. Daytona was disgusted but kept coming back so Riley and Samantha could come and see the "Cool anime robot" that came from nowhere. HE kept showing up because something about it...called him. Demanded him.
    • Well after a week of it showing up did things get even crazier, even more chaotic. The invasion kicked in around that time, and what was originally excitement turned to terror and panic as these things came down and posed an immediate threat to everyone, his siblings included. Daytona never felt his anger hit such a level before, seeing his family in danger like that. So might was his fury, so mighty was his rage, that he felt a voice in the back of his head. Wondering, perchance, if he wanted to use that same rage...and fight? The rest of that afternoon was a blur of red and rage, and when Daytona came too, he found himself in the giant mecha, panting, surrounded by destruction, but mostly of the aliens...and boy did it feel good.
    • He became a hero, despite hating that word. And deciding it would be better to use that anger to beat up things that really did want to hurt his family and his world. So, when the invitation from JEC came, it took some...convincing from his siblings to go and be that cool anime hero they always knew he could be!
    • Or whatever.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Coruscare
  • Element: Fire
  • Appearance: Time to light 'em up.
  • Abilities and Gear:
    • Blaze Blade: A massive broadsword nearly as long as Coruscare, with a massive core of of pure flaming energy in the middle that causes the blade to reach extremely high temperatures. The more it's swung, the hotter is grows.
    • Spirit Eruption: Being in Coruscare causes his passionate spirit to become a bit more literal. At his angriest in a fight, the entirety of Coruscape can catch entirely on fire. While this causes no damage to Daytona himself, it does cause him to burn out a lot faster in a fight. However, that being said it causes his speed to increase substantially, his strikes hit harder, and causes some ranged weapons to fizzle out when getting near him.
    • Meteoric Impact: Tied in with spirit eruption, he can channel the fires of his body into the rocket thrusters on his back which allow him to barrel forward with the strength of a meteor. He tends to use this as a SUPER last ditch effort, and only when there would be...minimal property damage.
    • Flame Chains: Daytona despises anyone trying to run from a fight, and this prevents cowards from doing just that. Flaming chains erupt from him and wrap around anything he can reach, and keeps them pinned down for the beat down they deserve.

Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?
