"Works About X" indexes

Original post below.

This was prompted by the Trope Launch Pad discussion of Ursine Fiction.

Recently we've had a proliferation of indexes like Ghost Fiction and Demon Works, and folks are questioning whether they're actually needed. The draft at issue for whatever reason attracted a Troper Critical Mass saying it wasn't needed, and the discussion turned to "well, what about these other indexes"?

Personally, I recall a rule against Search Generated Indexes, and I don't think "work is about bears" or "work is about ghosts" properly counts as a genre.

Case-by-cases sounds like the better approach. Also, can I get pinged too, please?

I was informed that Works About X are on a moratorium in the TLP while working on one for doll media. However, TLP Guidelines lists this as something that can be launched on TLP. Is this something that needs to be corrected there for the present?

Your draft doesn't look like a Works About X index to me. It looks like a media page or a useful notes page.

[up] I changed the title from Doll Index because I was told that it was a "Works About X." The original title was The Doll Index. Is it not, then?

It's got a long, fleshed-out description about dolls as creative works, which is characteristic of trope / media / genre / useful notes pages. It may also do indexing, like some of those page types do. For example, Manga is a page about the medium and an index for work pages.

Thank you. I'll turn it back to the name it was and leave it as the Doll Index.

Crown Description:

There have been concerns that certain Works By Subject indexes like Dinosaur Media and Bovine Fiction are suffering from loose criteria, redundancy issues with related tropes, contribute to index bloat, and may not be needed in the first place.
