The way he ties it into to Aum Shiryoku is genius.
Watch SymphogearOnce again, context should be more than the vid title.
I'll assist then. This is a retrospective on the entirety of Death Note, with most of the focus being on how none of the adaptations have attempted anything close to the manga. The manga is a critique of Japanese society as a whole. Everything else glorifies Kira to be some sort of demon or god.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Would how Light meets his end be one example?
Pretty much the ending and the constant judeo-christain imagry makes the viewers want to pity Lighr, when he was never supposed to be pitied. He became a Draco in Leather Pants in works afterwards, each one more sympathetic than the last.
What I found the most interesting was the inspiration, Aum Shinrykyo. I have never heard of that group before and after doing a little more digging, man what a horrifying group. I can defenitely see where the god complex comes in in both Akira and the cult leader.

Yeah.
I watched that via the Death Note thread in the anime section.
It does seem like the anime writers, along with a lot of other dudes missed the point.
Which is a shame, because, knowing where they got their inspiration for Light, we really shouldn't be glorifying that kind of thing in any way.
One Strip! One Strip! There infamous in japense media. Neon Genesis Evangelion's SEELE takes some inspiration from them. In fact if you find a cult leader in japense media you'd find at least some inspiration from Asakura and Aum, same with how a western works cult leader would draw from Charles Manson or Jim Jones
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It sure does reframe the themes of the story quite a bit if you know about that piece of background. Wich a the vast majority of western anime fans of course would not when they watched it.
Similar how the anime made a lot of people see Light more as an anti hero, not by making him in any way a petter person but just by changing the way many of his scenes, especially his death are framed.
Light's death in the manga is so god damn good.
Kaze ni Nare!So basically, both Death Note and Dragon Ball have anime adaptations that gave people an inaccurate view of the main protagonists?
Who knew that two manga properties so different from each other could have that much in common?
Well the DB movie does turn Goku into a bullied teenager motivated to get the girl........ Which isn't Goku on any level
In Death Note's case Light goes from an honor student and closeted sociopath to a total loser constantly losing his shit at everything. Even L is portrayed as far more emotional and violent than he was in the original story.
Its pretty incredible how different the movies portray their famous protagonists.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The movie version of Death Note doesn't include the character's inner monologues, right?
Becuase without those, i imagine the temptation would be there to make Light and L more outwardly emotional. Since the audience isn't privvy to their thoughts and motivations the same way we are in the manga and anime.
Light has what feels like a 15 minute breakdown when L shows up and sits next to him. Without the internal monologue Light's just politely sitting there for a few seconds.

Kaze ni Nare!Okay, someone needs to make one of those handshake unity meme images for Goku and Light.
Here's a tier list for the Dragon Ball arcs. I'm going to name them based on the TV Tropes recap names.

- D: Other World Tournament, Shadow Dragon, God of Destruction Beerus, Golden Frieza
- F: Black Star Dragon Ball, Super 17, Copy Vegeta
The last of the Big Three, Bleach, is Mark's next big review project. Seems to be pretty positive but note that the fanbase in his experience has been less than pleasant in the past.
I wonder how he's going to feel about the Hueco Mundo arc. I doubt he's going to be pleased because they go from one comrade rescue arc almost directly into another.
Ah... it appears this hasnt been updated with the bleach reviews. Ill update that on a later date but for now, here is his latest movie with the DBS super hero movie.

I think he's the first person I've seen who said anything good about Piccolo's orange form.
TNM Is back and is reviewing a series very near and dear to my heart, one that I'd arguably say is Peak Fiction as far as anime is concerned. A completely blind review of the beginning chapters of Fullmetal Alchemist.
For the record, he also did a review of the HBO Last of Us tv show previously. That one is film length however. so while I will drop a courtesy link for those whoo visit this thread, the nest I can do as a summary is saying that Mark also takes the time to discuss why video game adaptations tend to b bad, and examines how the Last of Us show avoids that problem from episode to episode.
The FMA review continues, and Mark finally gets to the parts that blew me away when I was a child reading for the first time. Volume 9 up to volume volume 14 (or 15), and you can see mark is totally hooked by the first few seconds of the video.
Double update because I forgot to post last week, here is part 3 where Mark goes through volumes 15-20, Pride is revealed, The elric brothers arrive in Briggs, and the players all start making their moves toward the final battle.
Speaking of, below is the final 7 volumes, wrapping up this wonderful story and leaving a mark on...well Mark.
The form seemed rather popular with fans from what i saw. Cell Max was what seemed divisive.
x2
That seems like an exaggeration.
