If it's just inactive, don't do anything. Let it die. Not every thread needs to be locked. It can just slowly fall down the page and be forgotten.
If a thread is out of control, or there's something fundamentally wrong with it that prevents civil discussion, you can "holler" a post using the little "..." menu in the upper-right corner of every forum post. That will inform the mods of the post, and they can lock if they deem it necessary.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.
