I definitely agree that tropes got problems, I've removed some egregious examples from their in the past
If we're gonna vote, I'd vote to end this trope, and just move the valid examples to Expy, or complementing Batman Parody entries.

My gut feeling tells me that [specific character] Expy tropes was created as a badge of honor back in the wild west, pegging the works they like as 'influential'

Actually it seems like most of these were likely created circa 2016-19, well after the "Wild West" period.

Still, people could have had the same mentality even then.
Just saw this being listed for Jack Horner because he wears purple and has a disregard for his henchmen (which he still doesn't intentionally kill for no reason).

Man, thank goodness Char Clone was removed. A relic of the bygone days of your anime-obsessed tropers. Char is influential yes but unless the designers outright make a mention deliberately out of it, it should not count at all.
I think it’s worth remembering that Expy still exists. If the trope ends up getting cut, we can move the legitimate examples there. Not having their own trope doesn’t make them any less valid.
