This is all OK with me if, at any point, they mention Ace filling in for Murdock as the bassist for Gorillaz.

That honestly wouldn't surprise me.

Also, while it's unclear if the show is actually set in Townsville, I wouldn't be surprised if the Mayor is still the Mayor. I imagine he'll just be (even more) comically old.

I just hope the show is kind to the Professor.

...Also, will he actually get a first name in this? From what I remember of the original show, you never heard what it was.

Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight.

Can it be Tom or Kane as a reference to His original actor.

[up][up][up] I think they should probably have Bellum as the Mayor. That feels like a natural step for her character.

I would super be down for Mayor Bellum, using clever camera angles and prop placement to conspicuously conceal her face every time she's onscreen.

Home Improvement managed to make a recurring character whose face, specifically, is never visible work in 1991. We can certainly pull it off in 2021.

Considering the criticism the original character got, I'd just have them show her face.

[up]Maybe keep her face covered for the whole first episode, then make it a reveal.

[up][up]Didn't all the blowback the reboot got prove the character was fine as is?

If they show Bellum's face, it'll be because the writers don't feel like committing to it, like what happened to Claw in the Inspector Gadget movies.

It's unclear if we'll even get Ms. Bellum or the Mayor, really. We don't really know yet if the series is set in Townsville.

But having a throaty-voiced, curvy woman appear onscreen but never show her face might be a touch more...problematic in live action.

I'd rather they either stick with the visual gag, or get rid of her entirely, but not make a big deal out of it or do a big reveal episodes later. Just, wham, here's her face.

I wonder if they'll tackle city sized threats or not, or if this'll be more like Riverdale and deal more with social problems and small town minutia. The girls spent a few episodes punching giant monsters around as I recall, but that won't translate to live action well.

And good god trying to reference the original dresses is going to be awkward.

Didn't all the blowback the reboot got prove the character was fine as is?

Many who were against the reboot discarding her said that they were fine with showing her face if it meant she could stay.

If they show Bellum's face, it'll be because the writers don't feel like committing to it, like what happened to Claw in the Inspector Gadget movies.

The second Inspector Gadget movie avoided showing Claw's face.

With all the rumours of Toei and Hasbro no longer working on Power Rangers together in the future, maybe they could licence out the Sentai monster creatures for this from time to time? Or is that a cheese soufflé waiting to happen?

Tbh most of them look fairly good and would be a nice shotout out to the old school kaijui films their fights were inspired by

It's a CW show so I wouldn't expect much in the way of big-effects city-wrecking battles with colossal monsters and deadly super-weapons. I doubt the budget will allow it. We'll probably get smaller scale stuff like Smallville villains and the like.

This is actually the most baffling thing about this show. Adapting the Powerpuff Girls to a live-action screen without the budget of a summer-release blockbuster film?

[up][up] It could be something like The Tick (2001), where the big superheroic stuff all happens off-screen, while mundane stuff takes center stage.

The main fun of the PPG was the outlandish villains and messing around with the girls' Superman-level powers, and the crazy battles. A CW-style show would just basically take out most of their appeal for what seems like... another CW trashy show.

Well for one thing, we know there will still be combat and super powered conflict of some kind. The general premise is the girls getting back together specifically because the world needs them.

Other than that, given who's writing and what else I've read so far, I imagine a lot of the focus will be on dialogue and humor.

Superman & Lois looks surprisingly good for a CW show, and as a network they've been doing superhero stuff for over a decade now. The quality varies wildly, but it's not an unfamiliar genre for them.

Their main hook is that they'll be a CW show. Like all the other CW shows. But a Powerpuff Girls CW show, specifically.

If that appeals to you, stick around. But I wouldn't advise going into this expecting anything more bombastic than "Smallville/Riverdale/Arrow/etc., but with Powerpuff characters".

For Mojo-Jojo (if they end up using him) I'd imagine him starting out as a human who's true identity is a mystery both in and out of universe before it's revealed to be Mojo in disguise in order to save of the effects budget. Once they do reveal him I could see him having the classic look of him being a green chimp with an exposed brain or they could make him a horrific looking sasquatch monster.

Its no surprise, but Craig Mc Cracken has absolutely no involvement in the live action Powerpuff Girls.
