I'm not the only one who sees a problem with racelifting one character and making them the agressive one, right? That feels just off.
Chloe Bennett is half-Chinese so that's two characters racelifted.
When I heard this was a thing: I haven't watched the Powerpuff Girls, and this whole concept seems... bad. Probably won't watch it.
Hears Chloe Bennet: ...Fuck. Well, nevermind.
Casting actors of different races for the girls was always going to raise eyebrows, but I think I like it as an idea, overall.
It'll be fun seeing Cameron and Bennet opposite each other again.
Interestingly enough, Dove Cameron mentioned how she wanted to be in a live action Powerpuff Girls project, and now she gets her wish (though it's as a series and not a movie).

Not a big fan of the "edging up childhood franchises" trend in general but I enjoyed The Umbrella Academy (2019), so okay.
The optics are less than perfect. Reminds me of that recent Titans casting news where they racelifted Tim Drake (who is rich and white) into a black kid from the streets (??????)
Still, the cast is talented and I generally like Diablo Cody's work so I'll keep an eye on this one.
Please people keep the vitriol low after what happened last time. Please.
Tbf the umbrella academy comic is quite dark at times as well. It has stuff like cannibals.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I was talking about the child-superheroes-turned-dysfunctional-adults-reunite premise, my bad.
It'll be fun seeing Cameron and Bennet opposite each other again.
I like it too. I mean. They were made from a Magic-Science concoction of alliterative feminine components that erupted into vaguely human-shaped entities.
Really, an individual Powerpuff Girl can be a vaguely whatever-race-you-want shaped entity.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I wonder who they'll get for the Professor, though I wouldn't be surprised if he's a flashbacks only type of character.
It's a little disturbing that it's canon that the Powerpuff Girls really do have massive oversized eyes and no fingers unlike all the other humans in-universe. D:
Something tells me they'll retcon that particular plot element.
Or maybe they lost this features as they grew up and "stabilized" or by conscious choice.
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Do we know whose playing the bad guys ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Not yet. So far, only the girls casting has been announced, and that was just a few hours ago.
It's still early days yet.
Danny De Vito as Mojo Jojo or we riot!
I think I'd prefer someone like Patton Oswalt as Mojo.
RuPaul as Him, though.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Given how cartoony many villains were, you'd need to start raising the budget so it doesn't look incredibly cheap.
Wake me up at your own risk.I don't want to picture what a realistic ape with exposed brain will look like in live-action. Or the Gangrene Gang. D:
Well probably end up the supernatural route where every one looks human for some reason.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Hrh-hrm.
I will cast judgment once I see the costume design for Mojo Jojo. My interest in this is going to live or die on that hill.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).I wonder if Ms.Bellum will be in it.
On the CW?
They might. They might not. It'd be harder to hide her face all the time... or easier, I guess she could be constantly out of frame or like the Mando.
I feel like they'll composite her into like Sedusa or that Susan B Anthony villain.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).If a long period of time has passed, we'd probably have a new mayor and a new mayor assistant. I don't expect Mayor and Bellum to have major roles in this show.
So, the CW is making a live action version of the Powerpuff Girls, to be co-written by Heather Regnier (iZombie, Falling Skies) and Diablo Cody (Young Adult, Juno), featuring the three girls as grown adults who have drifted apart, only to come back together as a dysfunctional family unit to save the world again.
A pilot has been green-lit, and we have casting news. Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles (which I somewhat predicted last year), and Yana Perrault as Buttercup.
I will say, I'm quite excited about this now that we have a cast, as it's a fairly impressive one for a CW show, with some fairly big name behind the scenes talent as well.
((Also-this is the second thread that has been made for this show. The first one had to be locked due to non-stop complaining. Let's try to avoid that this time.))
