Did the Remuria quests. Why is everything in Fontaine so weird.

[up] Eldritch AND European!

My pull luck was so-so. Had 45 pity and a guarantee so I nabbed Arlecchino in the first 10 which is nice. But despite 65 pity on the weapon banner, all I have to show for it is a Skyward Blade.

But the real story is the new artifact set, I found the PERFECT flower piece: both crit stats, ER, and atk % and all the level up bonuses went to the crits'. It was a thing of BEAUTY.

Except it was for the Burning set, not the Life Bond. I got them mixed up. sad

Arlecchino's character quest would be a lot more interesting if the animated short didn't spoil almost everything

The only actual twist related is that Crucabena was Clervie's biological mother, which I suppose is just meant to underline how vile she actually was

I haven't finished the questline so I won't be too harsh a judge, but it's kinda weird that an entire island gets basically brainwashed and only one guy and a cat seem to care. Feels like the plot was written for Tsurumi Island, where it's extremely remote and isolated, and not an island in the major shipping channel between Sumeru, Fontaine, and Liyue.

And as much as I like the Traveler and Paimon as a comedy duo, I hate when they ruin serious scenes with jokes. People lost their souls and you're acting like this is a cheesey theme park roleplay.

[up]To be fair to Tsurumi, the island was abandoned for millennia. Still, it's odd no one like the Shogun or the Narukami Shrine maidens tried to help the souls there pass on and break the curse on the island. And as far as I got in the Remuria quest so far the Traveler got serious once it became clear that the people had their souls stolen and this wasn't some kind of play like on the Golden Apple Archipelago.

Cassiodor is no Enjou or Jeht, though. These quests really need a good NPC to carry them and both him and Boethius are pretty yawn-worthy. Being able to pet Cassiodor and his exasperated responses are pretty funny though. And the lore is pretty neat.

I mean, I can buy the Shogun not caring about Tsurumi Island with what her not doing anything about Tatarasuna or Seirai already, just another thing to add to the list of Ei's negligence.

As for the Remuria quest, I'm only getting started but I did like the introduction of Remus' memories. It ties to the symphony lore we got from the Melusine's questline and confirms that Remus did try whatever he could to help his people escape the curse of Fontaine, though the mention of the usurper-lord means that a sovereign was likely involved in this attempt, maybe this is also how Focalors eventually got the idea to rely on a sovereign to finally save Fontaine.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.

I have to say, I'm kinda disappointed at how easy the Arlecchino boss fight is. I'd even go so far as to say she's less of a challenge than Signora. All you need is a decently specced healer. Or not even that, anyone who can heal themselves, you just need a way to dispel Bonds of Life.

Hell, you might not even need a healer, just rely on the power of the chicken.

Peruere's origins have some real deep lore behind them. She's a descendant of the Crimson Moon clan, who were, a very long time ago, the kings of Khaenri'ah. The book Perinheri talks about them a bit

"This is a story from very ancient times indeed. It is said that in those days, birds had not yet split into domestic and wild kindreds. In those days, a crimson moon shone down upon the subterranean realm, and not the dark sun of latter days.
Due to the Kingdom's unique position, things from outside this world were always leaking into it. The Kingdom's weapons would wipe out the calamities slipping in, but what of all the other objects? Such as, say, a child who may have come from some destroyed world?
One of the sages spoke thusly to the great ruler: "Oh high lord of the nobles, a child once told me a tale of another world: Once upon a time, there were sea people who believed that the gods came from the sea. Each time they discovered a shipwrecked person, they would treat them with the utmost honor, for they believed that the gods would take the form of the shipwrecked to investigate the mortal realm."
The ruler replied, "I do not perceive your meaning, so do as you please."
(Naturally, no oceans in the traditional sense lay within the Kingdom's borders. The earliest founders of the Kingdom had once seen the majestic silhouettes of the mountains blur under the sun's searing glare, and the rippling reflections of the moonlight falling upon the sea's surface like a scattering of pearls. But at the time the story took place, only outsiders and those few who had left the Kingdom on official duties and returned could describe such sights to the ruler. The ocean and the sea were often used as a metaphor for the space projected by the stars.)
In anticipation of the arrival at their Kingdom of gods from beyond the so-called ocean — or rather, the arrival of beings who could transcend the gods — they founded an organization, an orphanage to take care of such children. In latter days, the orphans of the Kingdom and those who wandered in from outside were accepted as well.

Like, the actual lore implications behind this are bonkers. Also raises big big questions about the actual purpose of the House of the Hearth.

The centaur statue is a cool design, but a total cake walk with Zhongli. Noelle, Navia, Itto, plunge teams, and overload teams will also likely grind it to rubble.

While I'm okay with not every new enemy raising the difficulty bar over the last, this patch does seem pretty humble in terms of combat challenge. But after the constipated beasts, I'm good with the extended breather.

Frankly I always learn new boss mechanics once they are in Floor 12 of the Abyss, everywhere else they just don't live long enough.

Won for the coinflip for Arlecchino, and with four good Gladiator pieces on her, she's already hitting very hard even without being maxed out. It's gonna be a while before I get something comparable for that new set. It did mean taking those pieces off the 2 Glad/2 TF set I had on Fischl, but she needed to move on to 4 Golden Troupe anyways.

[up]Makes you miss the old days of human sacrifice in all the major world quests in Inazuma.

But looking at the reaction to the patch, gotta love the second biggest source of fandom salt rearing its ugly head: someone beating someone else in a fight. But given that this time the aggrieved fandom is the Aether mains, who are the most annoying single-character fans, then the schadenfreude is pretty nice right now.

[up][up]Basically, and as vaguely as possible, the Traveler joins a fight of Arle's kids against Arle, and prompts Arle to use a time-stop instant death technique against them specifically, because they're not one of her kids and she could give zero fucks about being fair or nurturing to them. Fans of the Traveler (read: Aether; Lumine fans don't care) got angry about how their cosmic champion is not only beaten, but also lectured by an opponent.

Interesting way of gauging the Traveller's strength in comparison to the Harbinger's numbers. I'd put them at around 7, myself; given that they can beat Signora (rank 8), but not Scaramouche (rank 6). Is nominal though, given that Scara was juiced up on the Electro Gnosis at the time.

To be fair to the Traveler, they still aren't at full power and an instant death technique is something few people can really handle unprepared unless they're being protected by Deus ex Machina. Remember when the Traveler struggled against a few of Signora's Fatui bodyguards? They've come a long way.

I haven’t watched the actual fight but isn’t the Traveler still vulnerable to being blindsided? I remember that they were knocked out by Dottore without putting up a fight.

The Traveler is vulnerable to being blindsided, yes. Dottore took control of their Akasha Terminal to disable them and took them out instantly.

Can we talk about how the new Sumeru expansion is literally completely empty?

Anyone notice how the area west of Port Bayda is completely empty? There aren't even any enemies in the area, let alone resources or puzzles.
