I liked "The End Of The Game", but "Hero" is less memorable to me. Based on those two songs I expect Van Weezer to be like Green Album songs arranged like Maladroit. So power pop / pop punk melodies plus hard rock riffs and "shredding". Could be a good mix if it's done well.

What exactly is Wezer's reputation in the music communiy as a whole? From my observation, they're an obscenely popular band in alternative music circles (almost memetic in fact), and yet their appeal to the mainstream is limited.
Scaled seekerWell, they're no Top 40.
Rock'n'roll never dies!I feel like in the mainstream people would know their name but wouldn't be able to name any songs - this is totally based on anecdotal evidence, such as this one time I told someone I was going to sing Weezer at a karaoke night and they responded by asking if I was doing "She Hates Me". I guess their best-known mainstream songs are "Beverly Hills", their Cover Version of "Africa", and maybe "Island In The Sun".
What about Buddy Holly and Say It Aint So?
Beverly Hills is pretty much the song Weezer song I know.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. This is true but I feel like it's more of a generational thing - I'm in a Weezer fan group and it sorta seems like there's older fans who came in with the "Blue Album" singles and slightly younger ones who came in with "Beverly Hills".
Someone brought it up semi-jokingly in said Weezer group, but isn't the title of the still-delayed Van Weezer going to ring a little weird now that its semi-namesake is dead? They could probably keep the title since it's meant as a sincere Shout-Out, but add a dedication to EVH somewhere in the liner notes I guess.

If someone asked me to name a Weezer song, I can almost guarantee it'd be Buddy Holly.
Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight."Hash Pipe" also got a lot of play back in the day; it was the first Weezer song I heard.
"I just wanted to know the truth!"Ok Human is coming out the 29th of this month. Lead single "All My Favorite Songs" is out now. Van Weezer is still coming out in May, I guess because they're hoping they can tour by then. "All My Favorite Songs" is kinda growing on me - kinda like Pacific Daydream goes Baroque Pop (although PDD already did kinda go baroque pop with "Weekend Woman", which homages The Zombies, but doesn't really sound like this). Someone on this Weezer shitposting Facebook group I'm on also joked it's gonna be like "pretty. odd for 30 somethings"

Van Weezer is out. Any thoughts? For me it's not all it could have been, but it's a decently fun little record. All the touted Hard Rock/metal elements are pretty much window-dressing for the usual Weezer pop-rock though, which is never more obvious as when "Blue Dream" heavily samples (or "interpolates") "Crazy Train" throughout. I'm getting more into "1 More Hit", one of the tracks I hated at first listen - it's a bit weird and off-kilter for them but now that's why I kinda like it: Puts me into the mind of "Hash Pipe" note , as well as (relatively) heavy Maladroit tracks like "Fall Together" and "American Gigolo".

"I Need Some Of That" has one of the more earwormy choruses ever.
So, Metallica have gradually been teasing out Black Album covers that are going to be on an eventual box set, and Weezer contributed a version of "Enter Sandman". I have the same complaint about this as I do with most of Teal, that they stick so close to the original that it almost sounds like Rivers doing karaoke... But they at least do something different with the guitar solo, and the sudden appearance of the "Buddy Holly" lick cracked me up.

So, we don't have a thread on Weezer, do we? Well, let me start it. So their album Van Weezer is on The Shelf of Movie Languishment and Hella Mega Tour is cancelled, all due to COVID-19. I can’t wait for the album to drop, as I'm sure it will be a great improvement over the Black Album.
