Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. Why did Dewey say that love interests always turn out to be Ghostface? Yes, he turned out to be right in Richie's case, but the only other time this applied was Billy.
Looks like Kirby will be returning in Scream 6.

My online brain: Kirby will eat Ghostface?
Based on Scream 5, I kinda think they probably wanted to give her even less screen-time, if not kill the character off. Gale and Dewey had more in Scream 5 than Sydney.
I feel
A) Scream 6 sounds like Toy Story 4. Could be good but unnecessary.
B) Doing the films without Neve Campbell will be Scary Movie 5 all over again.
C) After the recent celebrity drama if this is less about equal pay and more about greed, Neve's not getting what she wants. I'm a bit baffled that five films later sexism has suddenly decreased her pay. I guess it happens but I wonder how much she was making per film previously and why anyone thought it was a good idea. I'm skeptical that's what happened, but I'm not the one behind her contract.
D) I don't expect anyone to undervalue themselves but when we get to the realm of million dollar acting roles my sympathy begins to dry up regardless.
Too bad so sad, I guess Sydney survived Scream 5 huh.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Most horror sequels are pointless and they only happen to make more money.
Apparently it will be set in NYC...for some reason.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyWhat do horror franchises feel like they have to go to new york at some point?
"Why do so many American movies take place in the largest, most iconic city in the USA?" seems like an answer searching for a question.
Plus, this will be an even split between Scream films set in Woodsboro (1, 4 & 5) and films not (2, 3, and 6).
Well to be honest only with Jason in the Friday #13 franchise, that I'm aware of.

I think the Leprechaun went to Brooklyn in the third movie.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).I think being in Manhattan and an absent Sydney will be a breath of fresh air for the franchise and make things a little more unpredictable this time.
Already a juicy cast even without Neve Campbell so I’m not too worried.
Where's my yummy yummy Porgs. No, if I remember right, he was in Las Vegas in the third one.
It's been 3000 years…Scream 1 is classic
Scream 2 is a decent follow up though I'm kinda glad they didn't got with the original script idea.. cause it breaks the cardinal rule of Movie series... NEVER DO THE SAME TWIST TWICE unless you can spice it up.
Scream 3... I don't think is as bad people make it out to be, but I'd say its the weakest film.
Scream 4., I love it and I hate it There are things I like what it does but then I can weigh those cons against it.
also when you play the game of Change the Killers/ Alternate the Killers in each movie... You are apparently banned for daring to suggest Jill/Kirby due to inflicting severe Emotional Trauma on everyone involved 'All I did was ask why it was the only option missing in the poll... I got meet with reply after reply of "DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH THAT WOULD HAVE FUCKING DESTROYED ME!'
Still need to see five I've heard mixed things about it
I've only ever seen scream 1
New theme music also a boxI liked Scream 3's villain and Scream 2 caught me off guard with killing the guy who came up with horror movie rules.
I don't think a fresh cast is what Scream 6 or any franchise so defined by its protagknist's plight any favoes, but then I don't know how Scream 5 was rexeived.
The Scream TV series was enjoyable and then they rebooted it off a cliffhanger with a new cast, leaving the old cast behind on a cliffhanger, and it was awful. The only "saving grace" was that they were able to use the original Ghostface mask again after not being able to for the first 2 seasons; for some reason.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).oddly enough
Scream 4 would have been the best chance for a Baton pass... but That would have actively been against what Scream 4 was a commentary on.
then again Long running franchises and Baton passes seems to be a HARD thing to do
Part of the problem is that, unlike a lot of other horror franchises, Scream has always been about Sydney's story rather than about the killer's story. Sure, it's always Ghostface but the Ghostface's identity is always different. Contrast against Friday The 13th being about Jason every time. Or Nightmare on Elm Street always being Freddy's villainy.
There's the meta-textual stuff too, but that's always been in support of Sydney's narrative.
Scream 5 is the odd-one out with Sydney barely having a role and... gonna be honest, the new girl and her "Ghost of daddy is in my head" thing was one of the weakest parts of the movie and out of place.
It's hard to Baton pass on a franchise who is centered on it's protagonist above a core theme or other element as a through-line.
I agree, Like Scream has always been about Sydney hell the biggest problem with Scream 3
is Ghostface is supposed to have this deep connection but They never really interact till the end of the movie cause Sydney's pretty much separated from the cast 'just due to the sheer amount that Scream 2 fucked her up...
Generally speaking the thing that caused the Slasher Burn out was the lack of understanding that People react better to characters THEY like in danger then cardboard cutouts you're standing around waiting for the creative ways to see how the killer kills them.
I mean WE BASICALLY HAVE THE MATH FOR IT as it was an observed phenomenon.
The Harder the franchises tried to be about the Killer 'Freddy's ridiculously convoluted Back story and the DREAM MASTERS, Micheal's cult shenanigans and they just fucking gave up on explaining Jason'
Ghostface is little more then an excuse to see the characters react
Hell Scream 3 deconstructed the whole Killer with an Excuse idea ultimately coming to the conclusion is Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse,

Its a reference to the recent trend with doing that for horror films, like Halloween
The First man
