The latest episode was interesting. Poor Olga and Debbie. And poor Damien Darhkblood.
Let this be a lesson to all of you: when the demonic detective says Omni-man did it, don't banish him to hell.
One Strip! One Strip!Honestly probably not surprised that Cecil already knew though. Omni Man just happening to be there, all beaten up and with the world's most convenient case of amnesia? Not at all suspicious. Nope. Not at all. No.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Plus the number of villains who could kill the Guardians is probably very small. Though Cecil isn't assuming Omni-Man is mind controlled like the Guardians did
Was War Woman able to fly in the comics?
She can yes.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Okay having finally watched the first episode, there’s a lesson we can all learn here.
Contingency Plans are fucking useless.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."How'd you get that idea?
Because the massacre shows that the infamous contingency plans popularized by Batman really only work if you implement them first without the others awareness.
But if you happen to be randomly attacked by said person and said person is a guy like Superman with full intent to kill, your basically screwed. There's no planning for spontaneity.
Its just a thought that came to mind while watching it.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."You think this universe's Batman analog was even paranoid enough to have contingency plans against all his allies?
Speaking of which, do you remember the days when Batman actually trusted his allies despite him being a grumpy loner? That was nice.
in the new 52 he trusted superman and showed him the cases that held the plas, showed him wonder womans was empty because superman was his plan to take out diana, and gave him a box with his logo on it. honestly as much as superheroes get mind controlled they should just share the plan with everyone so the ones not under control are on the same page
If Darkwing did, he did not have enough time to use it.
Really the plans wouldn't be such a problem if Bats wasn't so secretive about it. The League would appreciate plans to incapacitate themselves if they ever get mind-controlled or something.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah, that's assuming quite a bit about the Guardians. It assumes that their Batman equivalent is as paranoid and prepared as normal Batman. It also assumes the Guardians themselves were equal to their DC counterparts. If Superman turned against the Justice League with all of the main members present, they'd be able him. Flat out. But, while Omniman seems comparable to Superman, the rest of the Guardians seem generally weaker than their counterparts.
Batman having contingency plans makes perfect sense in a universe with mind control, evil alternate universe dopplegangers, and supervillains that have the same powersets as heroes. What doesn't make sense is 1) making the plans rely on the hero being a good person/acting heroic and 2) writing those plans down
As for Omni-Man and the Guardians, we have zero clue if Darkwing is the type of hero to have contingency plans. Cecil might, but Cecil wasn't there.
I knew the comic was acclaimed, but it's nice to see a Western animated production that can be adult without the feeling it desperately wants to be Japanese.
And as the trope page itself mentioned, it is a rather interesting Spiritual Antithesis to The Boys (2019), since there's a lot of love here for superheroes and superheroics amidst the violence and usually pretty good comedy.
Spoilering just in case even though it's been some time.
Having read the comics, one thing that stands out in contrast for me is that this series actually lets the Guardians put up a brief (if still totally one-sided) fight against Omni-Man. In the comics they didn't even get that. The Immortal's reaction is also different. While in this series he's all "Why?", in the comics he says "I never liked you", with Omni-Man responding that he felt the same way about the Immortal.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThat's what I like about it. I kinda hate the trend of superhero deconstructions taking a swing at the idea that people can be good rather than, you know, the powers and the battles.
New clip for tomorrows episode.
I'm curious how long until Mark finds about his father because all this stuff in recent episodes is adapted from after Omni-Man got outed so its interesting to see how far they go with it.
Thats what makes the series great. Its incredibly violent and brutal, but at the same time the heroes within it are trying to do whats best out of a genuine desire to help people.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Really enjoying the changes this episode.
I think they've done a great job fleshing some stuff out. Especially the parts with Amber.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobHoly shit man that was brutal, issue 19 which this episode adapts wasn’t this intense.
Mark is actually seriously injured and in critical condition while Monster Girl takes Bulletproof’s place as the other Guardian horribly injured by BB.
Yeah the expansion this show is doing is fantastic. Debbie, Titan, and Black Samson all get a lot of great moments that they didn’t get in the comic here.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I am really liking Debbie. I feel she was initially set up to be a more background character to Mark and Nolan, but she's really stealing her scenes and I love how it shows her cleverness and the more we learn about her past relationship with Nolan.
Okay so far, I'm really digging this show. This last episode was brutal and I'm genuinely invested in how this will shift things for these characters. I already hate Titan with a passion, but I hope he'll make a good antagonist for Mark. Also yes, Debbie is pretty great.
Also, I was wrong about Amber! She is a pretty likable character who's not getting completely crapped on. I just hope she finds out Mark's secret identity soon.

Wow Eve’s parents are assholes, especially dad.
“Just forgive him. Guys make mistakes all the time.”
Really dude, guy cheats on your daughter and you defend him? Damn I feel bad for your wife.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh they were totally terrible.
I do like how Mark and Amber's relationship is handled. It would be all too easy for Mark or Amber to look like an unreasonable jerk (as other superhero media can attest), but I think this gives them both a fair shake
I mean, that actually does make sense In-Universe since it would be a bit suspicious if at every crime scene Hellstintine goes "yep, no one else there except him and you, Omni-Man. Weird how that keeps happening." Which also lends credence to him getting his ass kicked and found rather than fleeing.
