So thanks to the MCU movies, I've become a lot more interested in wanting to know the stories more but as I've come to find out, getting into comics is kind of difficult. I look on wikipedia and even looking for the right collected editions or which iteration of series (like Amazing Spider-Man vs. Spectacular Spider-Man) is a bit of a mess.

So my question is, if I wanted to get into Spider-Man, Deadpool and X-Men, what would be the best starting point. I'm interested in getting the collected editions mostly to save on space and is there any other series you would recommend to complement what I'm already asking for?

As much as I absolutely loath the run, I would probably recommend reading Spider-Man from late 2008 ("Brand New Day") or late 2011 (Big Time by Dan Slott), it sets up the entire landscape of modern Spidey as we've known it for the last decade or so.

There's also the short-lived 26 issue Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows series which was a love letter to the way things used to be in the series prior to 2007/2008 while also advancing Peter to another level

For X-Men, probably start with Grant Morrison's "New X-Men" from 2001-2004

Firstly, this question should probably go to this thread.

Secondly, you can start pretty much anywhere you like. While this video is about getting into comics in general, it has a lot of good points, and even has some recommendations at the end.

Thirdly, I DO have some recommendations for the characters you mentioned. Keep in mind that I'm most knowledgeable about Spider-Man, so you may need other posters to help you with the other characters you mentioned.

Spider-Man: If you want a high school Peter, you should probably either start with the Lee-Ditko run or Ultimate Spider-Man, both of which have been collected numerous times in both print and digital formats. If you're into animation, I would also seriously suggest watching Spectacular Spider-Man (which should be available on Google Play and iTunes). If you want to keep up with something on-going, Nick Spencer's run has been well-received, though it does require some knowledge about previous stories and runs, most notably (as of this writing) Kraven's Last Hunt, a celebrated 1987 story arc.

Deadpool: Joe Kelly's 90's run is generally considered where the character become more than your standard 90's antihero, so you could start there. My personal favorite is Gerry Duggan's run, which gives Deadpool some interesting new supporting cast members. Cable & Deadpool is also where Deadpool forms his relationship with Cable.

X-Men: The one I know the least about. As luck would have it though, July is set to have the beginning of a major new run on the title, which will probably be new reader friendly. If you don't mind cheese, Chris Claremont's run essentially birthed the X-Men as we know them, especially with regards to Magneto's characterization. Grant Morrisson's run on New X-Men is also well-regarded for pushing their mythos forward. If you're fond of the school aspect, The New Mutants, Generation X and Wolverine and the X-Men are all good starting points.

I want to update this post and say thanks for the suggestions and that I also found a site that works perfectly for what I'm looking for.

For anyone interested, the site is https://crushingkrisis.com/

It pretty much goes through each Marvel series (some are currently locked behind Patreon but will be free eventually) and systematically goes through each way you can collect each series, which issues are in which collection and stuff like that.
