Video uploading

It just occurred to me that on the About page, only one of the new team's names rings any kind of bell.

Looks and sounds neat. Just gotta make sure no-one slips past the radar and the punishment for if they do.

edit: Well, that, and asking mods for new video examples on more, uh, lewd pages, maybe?

So... exactly how long has the video moderation queue grown by now? Judging by the last posted video, it is now at more than 13 hours.

I do hope this system remains tenable.

Chances are most people won't care about this a month on.

Personally, I would much rather see tropers' efforts refocused on humbler things like indexation, trope example alphabetisation (at least the new tropes that are still added daily have their ~20 examples alphabetised) or even just adding page images. This year, it often feels like I am single-handedly responsible for half the work image additions that go on. There's still a ton of work that needs to be done there, especially with alphabetisation.

Granted, that has nothing to do with enabling video sections, which is a coder thing, and the above is more of a mod thing. Though, if we are making new tabs, I would like to see an "Engine" one for video game engines. It makes no sense that RPG Maker is a Video Game, for instance. I suppose Useful Notes may fit instead, though it can still be blurry. (i.e. why is Steam Useful Notes, and GOG.com a Website, when they do the exact same thing?)

If you have problems with uploading a video and it says "The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.", please wait some time before closing a window which says a video is being uploaded until it says your video is ready, it needs to get recoded.

Maybe a warning, then a blockage from uploading videos (for a significant period/forever, on a case-by-case basis). Can't really pick between the two.

Okay, here's something of a plan:

1. Violating a rule (unmarked adult content [however we'll mark/warn of adult content], overly shocking material, etc.) will get a warning on the first time. Repeat offenders will get a ban from uploading videos for 24/48/72 hours and a stronger warning. After the 5th, they'll get a full ban from uploading video.

1b. If the uploader simply uploaded something that didn't illustrate the trope, just send them a message.

And before "How will we be able to tell if a video illustrates a trope?" Well, I'd like to suggest a crowner system for new video examples, because videos are harder to judge illustration than simple text.

But it's not enough for said videos to exhibit the trope in isolation. There has to be enough context to illustrate how the video applies to the trope and the impact the trope has on the work. The mods will be looking at that, too, right? Otherwise, we might as well be looking at Vines on our social media timelines all day.

If this is going to be part of a protocol, it's a good idea to get a plan in place.

I was actually more concerned with the prospect of their being trope and work pages which featured cavalcades of videos and no text.

After a day or two of using this feature extensively, I like it a lot, but I'd also like to know some things.

1. The first post in this thread should be a header.
2. I don't know if moderators know who uploads each video, in case they wanted to send that person a PM about the vid's contents.
3. I would like to get clarification on what "Adult content" in the first post actually means. I know I should definitely refrain from adding naked people or excessive gore, but are swear words disqualifiers? My video I tried to add to Go Mad from the Revelation got declined since I suppose it did contain the F-bomb several times, but if there's even one swear, would the video be declined instantly? I know a vid that may or may not be good, but it contains one instance of "Bullshit" in it. I'd like to know what limits for swearing are.
4. Can the moderators actually alter video details or delete videos? For example, one video on Kung-Fu Sonic Boom mistakenly refers to Naruto as Nartuo, a video on Oh, Crap! with Justice League appears three times, and the Scooby-Doo video on Mirror Routine has a watermark. I assume the first case should be corrected, the second should have duplicates removed and the third should be deleted (we don't allow for images with watermarks, I don't think we should allow videos with them either), but if the moderators can't do anything with it, then it's too bad, I suppose.

Overall, I think this feature has potential and I hope we can reach 10 pages of vids. I apologise this is a long post, but I wanted to give my feedback, and I'd be thankful for answers for (hopefully all of) these requests.

I noticed that some tropes use videos from Echo Chamber, so if a video is replaced with something else, would it be put on the video list?

Where do I find out if a video has been declined by the moderator or it's just waiting in the queue to be evaluated?

Also, are there moderators specifically for all videos or is the work distributed to individual trope moderators? Or genre moderators?

We don't really have moderation duties split like that. Anyone who wants to can take a crack at the queue. My problem is that I can't do it at work, since I am not able to listen to the audio.

2. Yes, the approval tool gives the name of the uploader. For now I'd suggest you send any query to Fighteer as he's been the most active on the matter.
3. I would not classify a swear word as "adult content" necessarily although gratuitous profanity should probably be avoided. We have asked for a function to allow us to set a decline reason, as an aside.
4. Not as far as I can see.
