I didn't realize Stewart was 18 when twilight started. that's really messed up for someone so young to go through all that hate for such frivolous reasons.

The amount of hate people get for playing fictional characters people don't like is insane.

Very glad that she fully unpacked the racist aspects of Twilight because a lot of the resurgence of Twilight fandom on social media that I've seen felt very uncritical of certain biases present in the text.

She noted most of these more well thought-out criticisms were around back in Twilight's heyday as well. Kind of a shame they got massively dwarfed by the superficial bad faith criticism and ugly biases.

I have to say though, I think she picked a poor example to address that the "twilight is promoting unhealthy relationships is being unfairly applied" thing? She brings up The Graduate, but I don't think that makes any sense because the text of that film very clearly says the relationships between all the characters are toxic and unhealthy, with the implication that the main character and his love interest will not have a good future and will end up corrupt, uncaring and exploitative just like their parents. The whole argument about Twilight is that it's presenting an unhealthy view of relationships as healthy, which IMO does hold at least some water as Sarah herself addressed via talking about how Meyer's conservative Mormon views likely influenced the series.

New video about fake posts that turn out to be double fake and the unsettling common themes of marginalized group bashing in fake fake post culture.

I know this was an incredibly minor part of the video, but when Sarah was showing that picture of various skeptic youtubers who eventually pivoted to shitting on SJ Ws, she included a picture of Logicked among them.

Now, a few years ago Logicked did make a few videos like that, and I still kinda get the sense that he's not big on online leftist discourse in general, but for the most part, he really has stuck to making videos about conspiracy theorists and religious types. He even did a two part video calling Armoured Skeptic out for how he misinterpreted Canada's anti-discrimiation laws. I don't wanna say Logicked is one of the good ones necessarily, but I wouldn't lump him in with the rest who changed their channels radically over time. If Logicked hates SJW stuff, then he hasn't made it a massive part of his online brand the way others have.

New video, not going to lie, I got distracted and started watching the webseries that actual got made in the middle when it was mentioned (I'm to episode 4). Also I remember when this was actually getting made (also the bear and police officer one). And by being made I mean like the posts and add ons.

What Pumpkin put out an update to the Hiveswap kickstarter responding to one of the sources Sarah cites in her video. It's only officially visible to backers, but here's a version on Tumblr.

I love Sarah Z. I love how she's openly bisexual and actually addresses the issues surrounding that. I love how she deconstructs Tumblr "cringe culture" and describes popular topics like Dashcon and "All or Nothing" in a respectful manner. The only people she ever seems to get really angry towards are the people who stir shit up just to make people angry, and even then she often understands why they became that way.

I watched her video on "All or Nothing" and it was eye opening. I never considered that so many of those posts I see circulated were probably made up. And I saw so many people fall for it, myself included, because "fake stories Tumblr" was so prevalent. People tend to cite cynicism as more nuanced than optimism but it comes with its own biases and lack of insight, where you're inclined to believe anything that validates your negative worldview and lets you mock people.

Also she managed to talk about Troper Tales without being a dick about the site. That's always great!

What, are you saying all youtubers don't hate tv tropes?

To be fair, a lot of critical Youtubers use tropes as a reference. They just aren't always citing us well.

But yeah, she basically brought up Troper Tales as one of the sources of "obviously fake stories." But she also acknowledged that it's Old Shame for the site. It was relatively brief and nowhere near as chaotic as the Tumblr culture of fake stories.
