"Walk This Way"
Original by Aerosmith
Cover by Rachel Ann
Walk This Way is a song I think has gotten the worst overexposure of all of Aerosmith’s hits, and I don’t like the original that much either (The Run–D.M.C. collab just has more kick to it compared to the 70s version). In spite of that, it’s still a funky and fun track, mostly thanks to Joe Perry’s guitar and one of the catchiest riffs ever.
Rachel Ann’s version is a breath of fresh air to hear. I like her more bluesy style, which draws out the lyrics. I never paid much attention to them before, but this cover puts them in a far seedier light. It may be too low-key, but it’s relaxing in a Tom Waits-sort of vibe. Personally, the original and cover seem evenly matched. But because I’ve heard Aerosmith too many times, I’ll go with Ann’s wailing rendition.
“Lola”:
I’m sorry, but you have Stage 9 Animes.I think Lola lost a lot of sense when it passes from the perspective of a man to a woman... while The Raincoats version have some of the urges of the punk period, still lacks of the feels that provides The Kinks version... winner... The Kinks..
Now this is one remembering the recently late Eric Carmen

I'm not the biggest fan of this song, but I prefer the late Eric Carmen's original version. His singing sounds more weary, and I enjoy the piano interlude. Celine Dion's cover feels too overwrought.
"I Drove All Night"
Roy Orbison's original version: https://youtu.be/m5N9IHqqGcA?si=YZeLuv44JfC8swYN
Cyndi Lauper's cover: https://youtu.be/2y1TZXc5DiY?si=o3quFVSQW29cCU7_
Just a simple man, making my way through the Tropes.I am much more familiar with Lauper's version, and am trying not to have any bias. Orbison's version is good, as I do like the simplier sound to it, but there were certain parts where I missed Lauper's more bombastic take on the lyrics. So I guess I'm leaning more towards Lauper.
"Son Of Man"
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI prefer the original, since it feels more suited to a Disney movie.
"Idol"

"Enshittification truly is how platforms die"-Cory DoctorowBoth sound very similar, but the cover sounds more evenly paced, and a more noticeable rhythm than the original.
"Right Time of the Night"
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationBoth songs are fluffy good-times fare (that are alright background music), but each they have their advantages. McCann’s original is a sensual wonder, with a melody that feels like a Bob Seger song, while Warnes has better singing, a country twang, and a good piano breakdown in the bridge. I don't have strong feelings for either, but I think I’ll give it to McCann for what he adds.
Both are still pretty solid songs, and add their own nice touches to an otherwise standard easy listening tune.
"You Sexy Thing":

I’m sorry, but you have Stage 9 Animes.Cud tries to hit with a metal sound that tries to follow very straight the idea of Hot Chocolate, but it never gets the fun of the soul beat and the sympathy that the vocalist has during the song. The original wins this time.
Before sending my next one... would a song sang by the same singer in another language count as a cover? (e.g. Robbie Williams singing Angels in Spanish or Yoasobi singing Idol in English?)
Next one...
Because the night

The cover is ok, but the singer doesn't follow the tune completely with a lot of the lyrics (although to be fair, Patti Smith doesn't 100% that either). And, because Smith sings with a bit more gusto, the cover ends up sounding like a lower effort. I have to go with Smith.
"The Woody Woodpecker Song"
Original by Gloria Wood and Kay Kyser
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationFrank Sinatra's laugh in the cover is too uncanny, so I prefer the original.
"Azalea"
"Enshittification truly is how platforms die"-Cory Doctorow
Vocal-wise, neither sound that good, but the cover has better music, so I'll give it to the cover.
"Wind's Nocturne" (from the RPG Lunar: Silver Star Story)
