Not to mention Beast Boywho was traumatized upon actually mauling a guy in self defense. Though considering he was a part of the Doom Manor...
Anyway. Should we add Animal Vegetable Mineral Man to the Unexpected Characters list in YMMV? Cause I was pleasantly surprised that THAT character makes an appearance in the show.
I knew he was a real thing! I just didn't know the character. Wow. Doom Patrol was weird. I love it.
I'm enjoying this way more than Titans.
It is too bad it isn't connected to anything other than Titans. I feel like getting other characters involved in the Doom Patrol's weirdness would make for fun times.

Jeremy Carver (the EP) explained that while Doom Patrol and Titans take place in the same universe, they are separate continuities, mainly because they can't really cross over due to being filmed in different cities (Titans is filmed in Toronto, while Doom Patrol is filmed in Atlanta). So it's more of a case of "all of happened, but we're never going to mention it."
Is that why everybody but Elasti Woman got recasted?
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianNot really. The "Doom Patrol" episode of Titans was pretty much a Backdoor Pilot, made before the actual series was greenlit. Once the series was greenlit, they were able to find better actors — and since Brendan Fraser and Matt Bomer provide the voices only for Robotman and Negative Man, they were able to dub in their voices for that "Doom Patrol" episode.
So, really, the only noticeable recast was the Chief, who was played by Bruno Bichir in Titans and Timothy Dalton in Doom Patrol. Which is fine by me, because Bichir was way too villainous in the role; Dalton (while being an overall better actor) exudes more warmth and personability, but also has the tinge of "Is he really telling the truth?" which is what the Chief should be like.
So I forgot to mention this, but back in the middle of February, CBR went over a list of characters that were expected to show up in this season. You can take some of these with a grain of salt, but apparantly the showrunner Jeremy Carver dropped a bombshell over at a press tour.
Honestly, I'm kind of trying to figure out what tropes for Elasti-Girl/Woman because she's a very different character from the comics. Lots of Adaptational Angst there because one of the central parts of her character is that her size-changing and stretchability WEREN'T a Body Horror issue.
It was all in her head.
Show Rita? Not so much.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. Her Power Incontinence doesn’t even let her use proper size changing, come to think of it.
Maybe it's just me but I think this is actually an improvement. Comics Rita didn't really feel as much of a 'freak' as the others. When you got down to it, she wasn't any different than any other Superhero back then, at least in terms of her powerset. Once she got her powers under control, she could live in society just fine. Not so much with this Rita.

This is probably one of the reasons Comics Rita wasn't able to return in the Morrison run.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI also think Byrne and Giffen introduced the blob thing to try and make her fit better with the rest of the group. So I'm pretty sure they still kept her growing and shrinking powers.

Finished Episode 4. Probably the best ep so far. It's a straight adapation of 'The Book of the Unwritten Word' from Morrison's run, though there's still another ep to go before it's done.
This show is amazing.

"Cult Patrol" was so good, I'm amazed. I'm just...amazed that they are going so deep into Morrison weirdness, they brought Willoughby goddamn Kipling (played to perfection by Mark Sheppard) and the Cult of the Unwritten Book with Our Lady of the Straight Razor and the Dry Bachelors and the Archons of Nurnheim and oh my god I love it all so much, it's so good.
The best moment was when the Mother made Cliff and Jane/Penny Farthing change perspectives. From how they see themselves to how they see each other to how they actually are, it was amazing. I don't know who that actress who played the Mother is, but she's goddamn awesome.
god it was good seeing the dry bachalors and the archeons straight up more or less out of the book
wish we saw fear the sky though guess that would have really broke the budget xd
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."I kind of regret they didn't just get Matt Ryan because the Constantine Expy matter doesn't need to be put into the shows.
I also feel like saving the world so early in their career is a mistake narratively.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Willoughby Kipling was actually visually based on Richard E. Grant from Withnail and I. So I was hoping they would get Grant himself to play him. But Mark Sheppard was pretty fantastic in the role, too.
God, I love the line from next episode's trailer:
LARRY: How much time to do we before the world ends?
KIPLING: Nineteen minutes.
RITA: Really?
KIPLING: I DON'T FUCKING KNOW!
Haven't even watched the new Ep of Doom Patrol yet, but this is the synopsis for the next one:
I'm pretty sure I mentioned that Tempest, Lodestone, Celsius, and Mento were supposed to show up at one point.
Finished the latest ep. It was fantastic.
God I love this show.
Also saw the trailer for the next ep. Yes folks, we are getting Mento. At the very least.
One thing Mr Nobody and Batman have in common.
They both hate punk.
What's amazing is they actually improved and MADE WEIRDER how Grant Morrison wrote the original story.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Saw the latest episode. On the one hand it's a very good ep.
On the other hand diehard fans of the comics are gonna be pissed.
Speaking as a longtime Doom Patrol fan...not really.
Mento is a character that is almost always there but I've rarely run into anyone who actually likes him anywhere near the top of the list. He always overshadows and takes Rita's (or the Chiefs) role without much of the charisma.
It's kind of like the Fantastic Four with everyone's favorite characters being the Thing, Sue Richards, Johnny Storm, DOCTOR DOOM, Franklin and Valeria, then Reed Richards at the back.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. This show is clearly doing it's own thing (with a Grant Morrison vibe), anyway. The episode was effective and the show continues to draw me in.
I do wonder if their little reference in the trophy room will have any follow-up.
Well that was certainly a creative way to have on-screen cannibalism without doing anything too graphic.
Well, they went there with Hawk and the original Dove.
