The Owl House: a horror-comedy Disney series

I recall Dana Terrace saying something about doing a secret project on her Twitter...

And something tells me this is that "secret project" of hers.

From an article:

The Owl House is a horror-comedy series that follows Luz, a self-assured teenage human girl who accidentally stumbles upon a portal to the Demon Realm where she befriends a rebellious witch, Eda, and an adorably tiny warrior, King. Despite not having magical abilities, Luz pursues her dream of becoming a witch by serving as Eda's apprentice at the Owl House and ultimately finds a new family in an unlikely setting. Executive produced by Terrace.

Calling it a horror-comedy series is piquing my interest since "horror" is not something that springs to mind when one thinks of Disney (The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Haunted Mansion notwithstanding). And these character designs are downright eye-catching as well!

Also, if this "King" character is indeed the little creature next to who appears to be the main character, does anyone else think he looks like Stitch if the top part of his head was a skull?

[up][up][up] Disney tried their hand at YA horror in the early 80's, with stuff like The Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked This Way Comes (and, some would say, Return to Oz).

I'm just glad to see a series with appealing character designs. The trend in recent years has seemed to be to make characters look like something an elementary school kid would doodle in the margins of a notebook.

I think I'm pretty excited about this. The style looks great and (presumably not-terribly-gory) horror-comedy? Hell yeah.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

I'm on board with this show, now I can watch this along with Star and Amphibia all on the same channel (Disney Channel) which I hadn't watched actively since they moved Wander Over Yonder! Now Disney please move Ducktales to Disney Channel. It seriously needs more attention. smile

Necroing this thread, because:

Dana Terrace is teaming up with Alex Hirsch and Daron Nefcy for a charity livestream on Twitch June 26th!

They'll take cartoon requests to raise money for RAICES, said to be "the largest immigration legal services non-profit in TX, focusing on under-served immigrant children, families and refugees!"

Sounds like it's for a great cause! waii Just one thing: What conditions do these things usually have? It's not like these requests can be made for free, right?

I like how the villain looks. Gives me an old Victorian goth crossed with an Owl feel.

[up] Yeah, no, that character you're thinking of is the mentor character.

I like that then, usually characters like that are potrayed as villains unless its The Addams Family or Hotel Transylvania

Glad to see Perky Goth characters are still running strong.

More LGBT folk working at Disney, then again Disney always had a long relationship with the gay community. I mean in Beauty and the Beast there was a load of gay people who worked on there from Andrea Deja to Howard Ashman.

The Owl House (among other upcoming Disney shows) will be shown off at the CTN Animation Expo on November 18th, 2018!

EDIT: [up][up] Way overdue in responding, but I didn't even know Howard Ashman was queer until I read that. The more you know...
