Well it kinda sorta depends? william king feel nicer in general since the lore wasnt so complex, gotrek become more stoic and at times is hard to get why they are parner, also nathan long was a screenwriter and you can feel that at times since his book have a movie like quality of set pieces he wanted to get across, I will said his best book is zombieslayer were they face henrich kimmler himself and damn that feel brutal.

So yeah, read it, they are not so bad just diferent, you should also read josh reynold books.

Alright. I'll track the books down and start by re-reading from the beginning. I'll see if there are any thicker editions that lump together more than one book.

There are definitely omnibus editions of the Gotrek and Felix books, though I can't recall if they are fully up to date yet

Well, I read the dark eldar trilogy and is.....kinda okey? I dont like how they tease a plotline(they are going to revive a ancient vect rival who use chaos) and them ditched at the end, I feel the other two books feel to weak because of it.

I will give it 6 or 7 to 10.

I dont know if I can make a double post but I just finished reading the eldar path trilogy and I will said I like it, probably because it does what it should do and expand the eldar sociaty a lot, we see more or less how a craftworld look like, how they interact each other, we also see that warrior path isnt just "take arms to defend the craftworlds" but a psychological need to vent violent desires, as we see with their first protagonist who join the warrior path because he get insulted by is friend and get rejected by the girl he likes(and by the way, said girl like him too but he want all for him).

I will said I like the first two novel, path of the seer really see us more or less about the runes and ardyan we see more of the galaxy and seriously I like both a lot.

The only boring part hilariously enough is big battle that happen in Aliatoc, probably because the imperium is just cast as this big bloc army that just fall for every trick, the finally is intersting and I didnt expect that but is good, good enough.

So far I will give it a solid 8, I recomended.

Yeah, the Eldar fanbase collectively hates that battle.

Yeah, I get why but I dont think is so bad? for me it was boring and I just mostly skip to it.

Anyway I read the great betrayal, a fantasy story set mostly before(and during) the war of the beard and I have to said its quite good, once you pass the lord of the ring esque prologue the story tell a lot of thing of dwarft in their power and how Gotrek really try to mantain peace.

Also we finally see caledor II and....well the best way to describe is pretty much all the steriotype of european kings into one: uncarnig of the world beside his proximity, jelous of his brothers, vain, cruel and very racist.

I will said his best book is zombieslayer

I loved how that one heavily went into how other Slayers view Gotrek. [lol]

And the zombies just amass another force with days.

I was like "damn, this motherfucker is holding all the cards, isnt?".

Mostly because it involves one of the big 5 craftworlds being seriously threatened by what should be a minor speedbump.

a speedbumb? that seen weird, the invasion while speak in somewhat ill defined terms it consist of imperial guards, sons of orar and imperial navy, saying is a speedbumbs sound...off.

That's one of the big craftworlds with support from one of the others going up against what's a tiny force by galactic standards.

Compared to stuff like Fabius wondering if his legion in it's prime could have actually taken Lugganath it doesn't mesh well

I think the issue is we dont know how big imperial forces is since it from the point of view of the eldar and is mostly describe as shapeless horde, is funny seen the imperium that way.

A whole bunch of 40K audiobooks are on sale on Audible right now. Are any of them good? I've read Ciaphas Cain, but I don't know if Crisis of Faith (the Tau book) or The Twice-Dead King (Necrons) are worth listening to.

The Twice Dead King books are absolutely worth listening to.

I've recently started reading Black Library books again and finished Spear of the Emperor by Aaron Dembski-Bowden today. It was quite a good book, if a little predictable. It is interesting to see the Marines from the perspective of a serf/helot for a change (even if it is a Mentors Helot who apparently do a lot more than the serfs of other Chapters). Hopefully there will be a sequel at some point.

The last 40K book I think I read was Dead Men Walking. I ought to pick up the Gaunt's Ghosts books again, maybe try and start the Horus Heresy again.

I finished reading The Infinite & the Divine a few weeks ago and it is probably up there with Storm of Iron and the original Space Marine as one of my favourite Warhammer 40,000 books. The relationship between Trazyn and Orikan is great.

I recently started Huron Blackheart: Master of the Maelstrom. He has always been one of my favourite Chaos Marine characters and the book does seem to do him justice.

On a different note, I posted this in the 40k thread but thought I would post it here as well as it involves the Horus Heresy series of novels: The Horus Heresy in 60 seconds (contains spoilers)

This year's Black Library Reader's Choice is up. Pick two books (1 for 40K, 1 for WFB or AoS) to get a paperback reissue. The choices are:

  • Warhammer 40,000:
    • The Mecharian Crusade: Angel of Fire by William King - Lord Commander Macharius clashes with the dreaded Angel of Fire, who holds dominion over the city of Irongrad
    • Rebel Winter by Steve Parker - Vostroyan Firstborn against hordes of bloodthirsty Orks, and a bunch of traitorous rebels.
    • Hammer of Daemons by Ben Counter - Part 3 of the Grey Knights trilogy where the Grey Knight Alaric away into the Eye of Terror, where he is forced to fight in a daemonic gladiatorial arena for the amusement of the dark powers of the Immaterium.
    • Space Marine Battles Series: The Gildar Rift by Sarah Cawkwell - Silver Skulls vs. the Red Coursers
    • Space Marine Battle Series: Wrath of Iron by Chris Wraight - Iron Hands vs. Slaanesh

  • The Old World/Age of Sigmar:
    • War Storm by Nick Kyme, Guy Haley, and Josh Reynolds - The first book in the Realmgate Wars series.
    • Hamilcar: Champion of The Gods - The unconventional Stormcast Eternal vs. Skaven
    • The Return of Nagash by Josh Reynolds - The first book in the End Times series.
    • Skarsnik by Guy Haley - The backstory for the most powerful Night Goblin in the Old World
    • Sigvald by Darius Hinks - The Pretty Boy trying to steal the Brass Skull of Khorne.

I voted for Angel of Fire and Skarsnik

So I finish re-reading the Malus darkblade series and I most said it was as fun a It was last time almost 10 years ago, the pacing is fast and engaging and I like tzarn and malus back and for, also Hauclir is the best I feel him like a evil sam to malus evil frodo(of sorts).

But it is intersting how some of the things are dated: if I remenber this was made between 6 and 7 edition and it show since four novel warpsword cannot exist as it is as Malus talk with the high ranking people of temple of khaine and hellbron or tullaris dosent show up at all. It get really funny because in deathsword the end time novel Malus does see him and it get a little bit awkard.

I also bad they never make another books that concluded malus story like in the comics, it feel....odd.
