Twitch

Looking at the help pages I feel even more confused because it seems what they really mean is that Korean streamers and viewers won't be able to use monetization features anymore. I see nothing about the service shutting down besides that, and I don't think I'd call that a shutdown when to my knowledge there's nothing preventing Koreans from continuing to stream and watch streams, just without the monetization?

"After February 27th, 2024, streamer monetization tools (Subs, Bits, Ads) will be disabled in Korea and for any streamers who have selected Korea as their country of residence during onboarding. On June 4th, 2024, existing Affiliates and Partners in Korea will be off-boarded from the Affiliate or Partner Programs."

I see nothing about them not being able to stream on the platform.

What a weird choice of wording from that main article.

Who do you all normally watch on Twitch? Mine are typically, Nocturnal Hanna, Fickle Freak, Locke Or Zelda, and Always Monica.

I wonder why Twitch is shutting down the monetization system in South Korea?

I mostly watch ConnorEatsPants, Slimecicle, JOKO, traves, Sneegsnag, hunter_hhhh, some others from time to time.

If I feel like catching a QSMP stream I'll occasionally watch Ironmouse, Quackity, FitMC or BadBoyHalo. I also sometimes watch Krinios or Michaelmcchill for MCC.

I'm more of a "I'll watch the VOD/highlights" guy TBH

My wife and I follow several gamers, and if we're not watching YouTube, we're watching them...network shows almost never play on our TV unless it's sports of some kind.

So, Twitch is off to a rough start in 2024 as they had to lay off several employees. It makes me wonder how Twitch can still turn a profit in 2024?
