Overwatch Fanfiction Thread

Talk about fanfictions on Overwatch here.

I recently started to play this game and my God, what a goldmine for fanfic materials this game is, despite its lack of campaign.

At first I was disappointed because there is barely a 1000 fanfics on Fanfiction.net...then I noticed how Archive of Our Own have somewhere around 4000 fanfics. Nice!

So, anyone got a good Overwatch fanfic, or better yet, written one?

Mercy has been popularly shipped with 4 characters: Soldier 76, Genji, Pharah and Dva.

So what are your opinions about these ships? I'm kinda torn between Genji and 76.

I'm a primarily Soldier 76/Mercy shipper, but I do think that Genji/Mercy ship is a damn good one. I'm actually surprised that there are so little fanworks on them, compared to Mercy with Soldier, Pharah, etc.

I like D.Va and Lucio. That's pretty much about it

Speaking of Lucio, due to my own gameplay experience, I like non-romantic pairing between Lucio and Reinhardt.

When it comes to escort maps, it's typically me playing as Lucio and some other guy as Reinhardt nostly pushing the payload. XD

Besides, Reinhardt is the oldest but also the tallest human character while Lucio is one of the youngest and the shortest human character. I'm pretty sure Torbjorn is a dwarf.

From what I've seen there's barely any of this, but a Mc Cree/Pharah ship seems logical. Both of them were part of Overwatch when they were younger, and they are all about justice (i.e. Mc Cree's entrance line, Pharah's ult line)

It would be interesting to see more of this.

All right. In a way, I do have some sort of big Overwatch fic in plans, but I really think I need to polish them up a lot before it goes on. It will be separated within arcs. Help will be much appreciated.

I already got Arc 1 prepared on draft. Do you want me to post them?

Also Pharah may be Ana's daughter, but she was never part of Overwatch, she was kind of the Tagalong Kid. In fact, being too late to be a part of Overwatch was her issue and it was right there on her lore.

I've been writing one for over a year now, a -rather ambitious- crossover with Mass Effect. It starts shortly before the First Contact War.

You can look it up on fanfiction.net as Starwatch. (I don't get any points for originality, I suppose.) I've also posted some chapters on Archive of our Own.

And, to be embarrassingly honest, I yearn for it to be featured on the Fanfic Recs pages for either franchise...

So what do you guys think with the recent revelation that Soldier 76 aka Jack Morrison is Gay?

I should have seen the clue long ago since a picture of him and his ex-boyfriend was seen in the Reflection comic 2 years ago.

Still, it must be a surprise for fanfic writers who portray 76 as a Straight man and shipping him with either Ana, Mercy(Team Mom and Dad) or any other female character for a long time, then to suddenly learn the guy who look like a typical straight white male lead from every first person shooter game is actually Straight Gay.

As for me? I fine with Jack's sexuality and don't mind if fanfic writers want to portrayed him as straight, gay, bisexual or asexual as long as their story is good. Plus, he's not the first Overwatch character that fans have portrayed differently from Canon. Eg, Tracer, whose a lesbian and has a girlfriend named Emily but fans like to ship her with her archenemy, the straight Windowmaker or make Tracer bi and ship her with other guys like Brain, the teen that helped her in the 1st Overwatch Cinematic Trailer.

Hey, if fanfics on Archive of Our Own are anything to go by, he was already gay.

As for me, well, I'm bummed it sunk my 76 X Mercy ship, but oh well, what am I gonna do anyway. Besides, there was always Genji X Mercy.

Since the introduction of Kiriko from Overwatch 2, fans have ship her with D.Va. I wonder if fans did it due to their ages (early 20s and 19 respectively) or did it for irony since they're both from countries that don't get along in Real Life?
