Well, you don't have to be a child to join in.

Are you the sort of person who constantly facepalms at their friends' stupidity? The one who got straight A's in school? The one constantly correcting the supply teacher? If so, you might be a 'gifted child'!

Here, we can discuss many things. Planning to take over the world and rule over the imbeciles? Feel free to discuss! Using your extraordinary intelligence to help those less intelligent? Go right on and tell us about it! This is a place for the smart people to talk.

I bought myself a gift once.

Also, I have an IQ of at least 140 iirc.

I think my IQ is actually around the 160 area but I'm not sure how high that actually is.

Also, it used to be higher, but stress has taken a bit of a mental toll on me.

I dunno what my IQ level is, but on the placement test I scored 99.8 percent, so there's that as a measure.

I guess I'm gifted. That what's most people say. Not sure what the IQ is though.

In Ontario, people identified as gifted are put in a special program. Is that what happened?

It's been like that for me since I was five or six years old. This, of course, led to me becoming a social mess later on, but who was to know except for a school psychologist OH WAIT

i did get to go to dauphin island, alabama for three days and learn a lot about marine biology. that was cool.

and i learned arpeggios. on an electronic keyboard. in kindergarten. man i miss my old town. it wasn't awful.

Oh dear...

It was like this for me since I was, I think four? Some lady from the school asked me to sort my toys and my method was... complicated, for a four year old.

What about you? What antics have your big brains gotten you into, gifted tropers?

I was awkward in this sense, I was a terrible student yet when I was younger especially I just Aced everything academic I did. Like I didn't study for my physics exam at all and got 100% on the hardest paper of the year... I don't even know how I did that, I had delegated myself to a B grade

I think these high expectations placed on me because of my intelligence has taken its toll on me. I care less about my work, and for the longest time, I didn't even try, thinking I'd just ace everything I would come across.

And then the Bs began rolling in and I got yelled at constantly. At first, I agreed that a B wasn't that great of work, until I found out no one made an A that quarter in those two classes. But to this day, my mother still thinks "you have high intelligence, thus you should do better than people with equal intelligence."

That's not how giftedness works- my science teacher will tell you that anytime.

If only he taught me that before my mom and dad told all my relatives about their 'genius child'

I am also gifted. But I don't make "straight" As like a lot of people who are considered "gifted" are supposed to do. But thats just me not turning in my papers on time even if I've had them done days before hand. I'm terrible at keeping my work orginized properly.

And here's a story for all of you. In second grade my class had a list for how many book reports we had to do a month up in the middle of classroom. One day we had a sub who sat me down and showed me that I had finished almost the whole entire list for the year. Then she ordered me to stop reading and to start playing with my classmates and not to read another book for the rest of the day.

Welcome! Terrible at organizing should be a coven.

If my teacher ordered me to stop reading, I'd probably say 'But you teach us that reading is cool and fun!'

A test in third grade said I'm gifted (it was for one of these special programs, which I left after two weeks). I learned to read in kindergarten and I remember how boring the beginning of school was because of it. And hey, I was also told by my teacher to stop reading and go play outside! I'm relatively good at math but the good grades I graduated with came from tons of work (and since that was two years ago, I've forgoten most of it tongue ). I think it's the language-related things that put me in the "gifted" category. Unfortunately, my school was pretty good at helping weaker students but bad at developing the potential of gifted ones . I grew up feeling that the things I was good at didn't count.

I'm not in school anymore, but when I was I was in a "gifted" class...Which was fine, since I'm told I'm smart, so it was nice to have work that challenged me. But I've got a question for you guys.

I had to go to another school to attend it. And it was really isolating. Um....we were kinda brats? We were in this one class, and we only ever had the one teacher, and we never had to share our class with the other kids at that school. Result? Our one teacher was the only one we ever listened to. I didn't even learn most of the other teachers at school's names. And if we mucked up, they would just go get our teacher rather than try to keep us under control themselves. Once or twice we had a substitute teacher, and we gave her hell simply because she wasn't our main teacher.

We didn't meet other students, so we didn't try to talk to them even if given the opportunity. And they avoided us like the plague because they thought we were stuck up. It didn't help that they saw their teachers ignoring our bad behaviour rather than telling us off, and resented it. If a student ever came into our classroom for any reason, they tended to be met with a sea of blank stares as we all tried to work out why on earth this kid none of us knew was coming into our space.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the class, but I didn't realise until I went to high school how bratty we were all being. So my question is, are they all like this, or was this one just bad at integrating?

[up] That, fellow troper, is an experience I can relate to. I had more than just one teacher, and while at my school, we're not really avoided. But one class filed a complaint against us for bullying them, for seemingly no reason. I guess they simply went off one isolated incident and confirmation bias took over from there.

That sucks :/

Sounds like they made more of an effort at integrating you guys, though, which is good.
