@Cail: At least once a day unless my brain is too tired to think straight.
@Madprophet: Are you Victor Wooten?
The possum is a potential perpetrator; he did place possum poo in the plum pot.Hello! I'm a singer/drummer looking to get into musical theatre, but it seems I've taken a turn into writing my own plays as opposed to auditioning or formal training. Voice-wise, I'm a really bluesy mezzo who's vastly more comfortable singing alto (and it REALLY doesn't match my appearance, which is why I'm writing my own plays now). Drumming-wise, I mostly participate in drum circles, but I'm starting to incorporate more drumming into my plays.
I love musical theater! I used to do a ton of shows. Not so much anymore, and as a result I'm really out of practice, especially with dancing sine I barely work out anymore. I still have my encyclopedic knowledge of musicals though
It's more fun when you don't look your voice part. You get to surprise people! I'm tall and have a pretty low speaking voice, so it always surprises people when I sing the tip-top soprano part. Though that does lead to problems in musical theater, when people are typecast to look and sound a specific part, so not looking the archetype for your voice part (the young blonde maiden who sings soprano, the heavyset woman who sings a booming alto) can be a problem, but that's what costumes and makeup are for!
What kind of play are you working on now Sharysa?
I'm trying to work on getting more things performance ready, since every now and again I have to perform somewhere with no warning (or someone decided not to put the flyers about an open mic up until the day of the event). Right now I'm working on Smile by Nat King Cole. The version I'm doing is most similar to the Judy Garland version, probably transposed up a key or two. The end keeps tripping me up, for obvious reasons.
My idiotic failings on a DAW. Feedback wanted and appreciated.

Take all my advice with a truckload and a half of salt, since I don't know a thing about DAW. "Bandharp" was my favorite, because I sounded the most melodic, but that's just a personal preference. I think "Fear the Void" would sound better with more layering, with harmonies or overtones maybe. I like the way you did layering in "Jazzman" and it'd be cool if you could experiment with more of that
Also, if you didn't know, I released an album a while back. It has a bit of everything - electronica, post-rock, metal, and jazz fusion, all drenched in effects, synthesizers, and orchestration.
I'm also planning on releasing an EP sometime either this month or next month.
Honestly, I had a couple of problems with these three tracks, namely the lack of an ear for melody, a couple grating noises (specifically the ending to Fear the Void), and the inability to stick to one idea for even a little bit. However, I did enjoy the almost chiptune quality of it, giving off a drill-like sound that actually works a bit for the composition.

"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"My new EP, titled The Time to Shoot You Down, can be found here. It's got elements of progressive rock, metal, electronica, and post rock, all backed by symphonic pieces. There's technically a concept in the production where it has hints of a concert sound, but that's mainly found in the final main track, "Song for Walt."
I say main because, if you download the EP, you get two free outtakes. Any critiques will be appreciated!
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"I have a choir audition some time next week I'm doing "Danny Boy" as my classical technique piece (cause I don't feel like learning an aria) I'm currently brushing up my sight reading, which has always been terrible :/
I'll just give the auditioners my sob story- I've always sung soprano I, so I never learned to sight read
I made my college's chamber choir!
Congrats.
I play guitar and bass. I also sing baritone although almost all the music I've written so far has been instrumental since I'm rarely satisfied with my lyrics. I'm considering investing in FL Studio since I do appreciate a lot of electronic music and it seems relatively straightforward from the demo, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to take that plunge just yet..
One of the pieces we're doing in choir this semester is Haydn's "Mass in Time of War". The whole thing. I've never done an entire mass before (they have several movements, and I've only ever done a movement or two). It's 41 minutes. And that's not even the only piece we're learning.
But on the bright side, I'm getting my Palestrina fix this semester. Palestrina is best Renaissance composer

Just be glad you're not doing an a cappella version of The Rite of Spring.
In other news, I'm experimenting with noise rock, industrial metal, art rock, and krautrock lately. Can't wait to see where this leaves me.
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"Breaking news: William's school has a jam session club whose first meeting is today.

Hello, all. I'm not sure if I really count, since I'm more of a vocalist, but I also play flute.
Anyway, i recently joined the school band for flute, so there's that.
Oh look, a ghost! That totally counts.
Oh goodie. So, this is the music talk thread. Performances, practices, gripes about instrument-cleaning, all that stuff, right?
Oh look, a ghost!Pretty much. I (completely fail to be consistent but I will occasionally) post pieces that I've written. I imagine discussion about anything related to making music is a good fit for this thread.
They're putting on an opera at my school. Auditions are coming up soon. I don't have enough free time in my schedule to do it, but I think it's so cool that they're offering that. I'm definitely getting a ticket to the performance.
I recorded a video of myself playing a couple Neil Young songs, and I got a lot of good response from people on Facebook about it.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?My friend in choir sent this to me. It's so accurate it hurts I haven't done any major auditions in a while, and while it can be crazy stressful I have to say I miss it
Hello, my name is madprophet. I usually feel overshadowed by the rest of my family, as I am a middling-to-decent precussionist where as my mother is a flutist who used to run a music school, my father is a bassist, my grandfather is a guitarist for a popular local band and my sister plays every instrument she can get her hands on beautifully. However, after a quick and probably over-eleborate bit of scheming with insane end-goals, I've decided take on the stage-name of Redjack and to work in the realm of Electronic Music (And its relatives). I know I put this in another thread, but does anybody have suggestions for good free VS Ts and other advice? I think I'm gonna need all the help I can get.
I also am an amuteur music theorist with access to Google, so if somebody needs some help with low-level questions on music theory, I'd be happy to oblige.
