That is, the money was faithfully placed into the relevant intermediary-organisation's account, as part of the process.

And then just left to sit there. Without actually being passed on to the indicated charity/charities.

Okay, that clears things up now.

Now the only thing I'm curious about now is how in the world did they keep that money for over 10 years without anybody noticing that over $600K hasn't been sent to these charities?

His advertisements of said charity events said it was donated, no one bothered to actually check the paperwork till recently.

A big question is how did those charities never notice they had never received anything from him?

Like, scope wise, The Completionist's charity thing is very small? Like 600k sounds huge to you and me, but that's over 10 years.

Compare with LoadingReadyRun's Desert Bus For Hope, who gathered 1,193,560.00 this year only.

Compared to that The Completionist's Indieland is quite minor. Why would the research organizations have even heard for it. Especially since he stopped publicly mentioning the total money gathered AND wasnt actually in contact with them to give them anything.

Wow. What a surprising and bizarre turn of events. I was only ever a casual fan of Jirard at best, but he always seemed like a nice and normal dude, and his videos were fun and entertaining and informative. And then this bombshell comes to light.

I actually feel bad for Jirard right now. That's not me defending him in any way; just that, the sheer magnitude of how badly he messed up here is just... yikes! Or maybe the source of this is moreso someone in his family, and he's been left to try and cover for them? Either way, I do not envy his position right now.

The thing I'm most confused about is, if that money was just sitting there for 10 years... like, why? If Jirard and/or his family were secretly planning to use that money for themselves, would they not have done so sooner? Why do absolutely nothing with it for all those years? Were they going to wait a little longer, and then use it sometime later, perhaps? But if so, again, why wait so long in the first place? It's an awful situation nonetheless, but hopefully the coming months can provide some clarity on what exactly is going on here.

That's the big elephant in the room here. There's absolutely no way that nobody wouldn't noticed that $600K was missing from the charity drives. Somebody would have noticed within the first few years.

also he offered Karl and Mutahar hush money in that call. Not blatantly, but he kind of clumsily tried to float the idea. Not to fault someone for saying something stupid in a panic, but considering how he's handled things overall...

It’s like a cornered fox situation. I feel like you can assess the true character of a person in those kinds of scenarios and… yeah, I shouldnt go namecalling for a meticulous situation.

Wonder how incentivized the Youtuber drama scene will be on “personal investigations” like these since it really is a big takedown on a Youtuber. I believe Mutahar is now featured regular on a podcast where he and others diss on who they call “lolcows” which reminds me the worse dramatubers have to offer is to perpetuate beef.

Nah, the problem with takedowns like this and James Somerton is that they take a large amount of research, knowledge, and effort to prove wrongdoing, and only actually work when there actually was wrongdoing. I've already seen posts from antis that were like "Oh we can do the same thing to cancel this guy we hate with this!...wait it looks like their charities were legit." You can't just will someone into being a felon by disliking them, and actually proving it takes a huge amount of evidence.

It's a lot harder than a drama channel just looking up old tweets to find a bad take.

Jocat just became the victim of the week by the same twitter mob that attacks every queer, female, or other minority creator that gets popular. The fact that it was over something like changing the lyrics to a Lizzo song to be about girls just because Jocat's avatar is a bit of a femboy just shows how little it takes to rile that group up.

And while Jocat's harassment is real and that's terrible it's also going to blow over when the mob moves on. With James Somerton or the Completionist, it sticks.

He literally got doxxed and sent suspicious packages from the same people and is now quitting over saftey issues which he hinted to be the same people that harrassed him online.

It is horrible what happened to him, but I agree that the work of a few anonymous psychoes harassing someone is different than a thorough exposé of actual crimes. Comparing them is like comparing someone who had to leave their career as an athlete because they were injured, and someone who had to leave after getting busted for using steroids.

The former is superficial, in that it's attacking what they are on the surface (Jocat is cringe, Jocat is fem, etc)

The latter is digging deeper, attacking their character and claiming they're not who they seem to be (a plagiarist, a fraud, a liar, etc).

Dang I saw the discord call. Muta and Karl were trying really hard to calmly learn what happened and didn't accuse him of anything.

And he responds by trying to sue them.

What's kind of notable to me is that, at one point, Jirard discussed how he's been trying to distance himself from other Normal Boots creators that have been hit with controversy. He names ProJared in the same breath as JonTron, being incidentally his friend "while he was [known to be] a racist" (6:03).

ProJared, most likely out of sympathy, was one of the first people who tried to defend Jirard from the initial accusations when they became public. So it hasn't aged well that Jirard implicitly threw him under the bus prior to it.
