We don't know whats happened with the money so atm anything is speculation.

It's also worth nothing that there's other people involved with Open Hand than Jirard and his Brother (though all the other people are members of their family), so who did what is also unclear.

People have also expressed confusion over why they just let the money sit there, not using it for anything. Spending it for themselves would be reprehensible, but at least more understandable then just letting it rot unused for 10 years.

Yeah. It's the big question. Like, we don't know someone used the money, but the absence of another believable reason, and the protracted silence ain't looking good.

Like I guess the hope is they did actually give money and turns out they just were really bad at filling tax forms? But that ain't looking likely considering they've all but admitted not giving money.

Second week where the completionist skips a weekend upload.

Karl Jobst mentions on twitter someone claiming to be the Open Hand Foundation tried to have the video exposing the money thing taken down for privacy reason. In a rare moment of doing the correct thing, Youtube rejected the request

Speaking of Jobst, his new video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ6tYkStri4) adds some more evidence of wrongdoing. TLDR is that he found more inconsistencies in fundraising coming from IndieLand and a golf tournament that Jirard's father runs (that has a ton of corporate sponsors and supposedly gave money to Open Hand). The tax filings report way less money raised than the events should be pulling in, both by looking at historical data and looking at statements from people involved in the event.

To me this is bad even if there is a reasonable explanation for all this, since it adds more people that should have noticed that the charity hadn't actually donated any money.

Like I said before, at this point the lack of statement definitely makes me think they've moved to the lawyering up stage.

in before they use the money they've raised to pay the lawyer!

So is this a greater fall from grace than the whole change the channel thing that Channel Awesome went through?

It would be the one smart decision. If you did fraud the stupidest thing is to go talk about it on video.

Jamie Lee Curtis being a probable victim is not something I was expecting from this at all.

Yeah, I'm sorry if I seem unsympathetic here, but this is the difference between the two situations.

For Channel Awesome, the victims were the few dozen public figures who attempted to use the brand to further their own careers. They were stuck under a shitty boss who didn't give them the advancement they would want, and that sucks.

For the Open Hand Foundation, it's however many thousands of people decided to anonymously pledge money to what they thought was a good cause without any thought of a return. It seems that, pending further information, Jirard chose to accept donations without any plan to donate them to the causes that he said he would, and that he is only furthering the history of members of his family similarly taking money that they claimed would go to charity.

One is a good reason not to go to work somewhere, and the other is fucking criminal fraud.

Like, I know this wiki once loved Nostalgia Critic and feels betrayed, but GOOD LORD can't y'all draw some lines in terms of severity.

No, it is not a gotcha moment that they didn't reveal a sex offender's crimes against the wishes of his victims before or after he committed suicide. I trust that nobody here is one of those people, but they linger still so let me just say...PLEASE RECONSIDER.

You're not wrong that these are very different situations and this here effects a much larger number of people and thus is more severe. But this

But that's gonna get us off topic. Back on topic, I would assume that the silence may well be due to Jirard and whatever other parties involved consulting a lawyer and being told not to talk publicly at this time. I suppose silence is preferable to one of those disingenuous performative "apology" statements.

There was small issue I had with the Completionist that gets more exemplified as this goes on. I didnt gravitate to him even though I could contend with wacky opinions from critics (Nostalgia Critic, Cosmonaut, etc) as he was opinionated in his completionist vids. But I could recall a video that rubbed me wrong way. It was his top 3DS games vid where it was respectable list but the reasons a A Link Between Worlds being number one was off to me.

I have no issue with that game being number one since its amazing but his reasons were because it kickstarted his relationship with Nintendo which he appreciates the game for starting. If you know the history of this time, Nintendo was not a very welcome company they it used the highly exploitative Creators program to force creators to five their revenue to Nintendo and force exclusively coverage to use perms for any Nintendo game. I know there is looking back at goodness in any circumstance and I dont even know if he was even in the program, though it was happening around this time. In hindsight, I found the reason that it was problematic for me is that Jirard implying he does not mind an entity doing something exploitative against people around him. Who knew that small moment saved me a lot of headache.

I havent really followed his content that much, but I still have to say that this whole revalation was rather shocking to me.

I have heard other content creators that worked with Jirard in the past talk about how impressed they were with him going out of his way that everybody he works with is fairly compensated even if it means the video wont make a profit because of it. So I really dindt take him for the kind of person that would pull something this scummy.

Honestly I only know jirad from skill up's podcast. So it's rather shocking as he seemed a nice friendly guy passionate abut games.

Looks as though they finally donated the money. I don’t think they’re completely absolved of any wrongdoing as of yet. There’s still the question of why it took so long in the first place and if they even would have donated it if not for Karl and Muta.

Pleasantly surprised they hadn't just used all the money. Still should've been paid much earlier and without two youtubers investigating them.
