So, here's bad news; apparently, the charity The Completionist helped found and has run events for for close to 10 years hasn't actually been donating anything to charity, like, at all. Ever. The money's just been sitting there accumulating since the beginning.

GODDAMN IT, JIRARD!

I only watched a few Shovel Knight vids and a review on The Messenger, but you had ONE JOB! JUST THE ONE!

And that job was being a f*cking decent human being! Damn it, man!

Well that is just horrible to hear. The worse thing about it was he started that charity after his mother died from Dementia and wanted to help research on Dementia. That is a slap to his mother's memory.

It's awful. Heck, that first charity he did, 10 years ago. It's lost 30% of its value thanks to inflation by now? It's staggering to imagine how much money they've basically burned by just not giving it, for 10 years. Like, even if they've not taken any of the money and really have just been leaving it in a bank account, and they decided to give away now, they've effectively wasted a ton of it.

And that's the best case scenario.

I've really enjoyed this channel for a long time but this has essentially killed it for me. Even the best case scenario is pretty damning. I'm curious what Jirard's response will be but I can't imagine it will be adequate. Very disappointing.

I cannot wait to see how one tries to spin "I admit I learned about it 1 year ago and then continued Indy Land where I claimed we were giving money to a place I fully admit I knew we never did" into a positive.

As someone who is really pissed off by taking advantage of someone's kindness, this is extremely disappointing to see from a creator I have followed for almost a decade. In my eyes, if it involves the misuse of charity funds, it's a scam as far as I am concerned.

Even if he can somehow excuse away not doing anything with it for the last 8 years, it's been a year since he claims to have found out. Some comments on Karl's video from actual scientists mention they'd gladly just take the donation for their labs, no charities required, so I can't see any way to weasel out of it.

Its particularly damning they can't even bring themselves to issue even an apology, don't be surprised if there's a whole load of other questionable behaviver that's taken until now to come into the light.

I assure you, it takes more than a couple days to formulate an apology that people will dismiss as insufficient and insincere anyway.

It might not even be deemed worth the effort by the greater company the completionist is under, so who knows?

The damage has, probably, been done at this point.

The obvious retort is he had 10 years to prepare it.

Does legit make one wonder if the money's even all there at this point.

He skipped his usual weekend video. Honestly the longer this silence goes on, the more I'm wondering if they even still have the money. He's also taken a break from the Friends Per Seconds Podcast (The other co-hosts go out of their way to say that the allegation are grave but they want Jirard give his response before they pass judgement)

Coz like, the two big questions is "why didn't you donate the money" and "Do you at least still have the money and can you show that you do?"

Making up some excuse to the former doesn't take that long. The later though, especially if the answer is "no", is something that you can't make an excuse for. And that's without going into how if there's money missing, you go from "Make a youtube response" territory to "Get a Lawyer who will ask you to please make no comment" territory.

Gonna say his subreddit is weird. To their credit, the majority of his fans are clearly upset by this.

But then you get weirdos posting stuff, and I quote, accusing Karl Jobst of having "pried into the public documents" lol.

[up] Yeah, at this point I'm not assuming that the money is still in the account. At least not all of it. Even if it is I have no idea what excuse could possibly justify this.

I've seen some fans defend not donating the money because Open Hand must not have found a good enough charity yet. Which is total bullshit, it shouldn't take ten years to find an acceptable place to send the money. Nevermind that researching and establishing contact with organizations that fight Alzheimer's should have been done before asking for money in the first place.

To say nothing that the major problem with that excuse is that he kept saying he was donating to those specific charities. "They don't meet our standards to get the money but they sure meet our standards to give ourselves legitimacy"

probably the cherry is Projared's comment showing he hasnt watched either video, which like, if anyone should know more than jumping to conclusion, it's him.

So, let me see if I understand this situation correctly. So, the Completionist started a charity drive 10 years ago and apparently, the money that was supposed to go to the charity drive never made it to the charity drive? So that means that the Completionist either kept the money for over 10 years or something happened to the money that he didn't know about until 10 years later?

He started a a non-profit organization whose purpose was to gather money for research organizations, namedropping one in particular he said they were working with and who was gonna get the money. To raise money for the nonprofit organization he held a charity event once a year for 10 years.

Their tax statement shows that their NPO never gave money to the research organization. And in fact one of the people mentioned as working for that research org had left the org before even the first charity event. They confronted Jirard with this info in 2022. He claimed he didn't know the money had languished there for a decade. But kept in the following charity event claiming he was donating for that organization.

As the new video shows, their tax statements in general are very messy and poorly done, which raises alot of questions about the state of the money. Also to be clear, Jirard is not the only one working for the NPO, nor even the one with the most time on the book for it.

[up] If I'm reading this right, Ghilz is referring to a quote on the Open Hand webpage from the Dean of UCSF School of Medicine, thanking them for their help. Thing is, the Dean they're quoting was fired from that School in 2007, over half a decade before Open Hand existed.

But the School of Medicine was never actively involved in the charity drive. That was the idea — the drive would raise money for Open Hand, a non-profit organization which would divy out the money to SoM and other worthy causes.

You would think Projared would be the first person to scrutinize the fuck out of the evidence against Jirahd, but there's a reason I stopped following him even after he proved his innocence. At the end of the day it looks like Greg got the last laugh after all.

So those that mean Jirad was involved in some sort Tax dodging using the charity drive but to avoid suspicion, never used the money that was donated to keep up the scheme?
