Crazy cat people, unite!

Oh hey, a cat coven! I myself have two cats - one is this big black and white cat named Melody, the other is a little Russian blue/grey tabby hybrid named Grizabella (yes, the latter after the character from Cats). The former likes to sit in boxes; the latter likes to... chew on them? Grizabella is also sitting on my lap as I'm typing this.

Basic characteristics of Melody:

• Large cat with soft purrs and very melodic meows/chirps (hence her name)
• Enjoys licking people, especially if they're wearing lotion
• Friendly around new people
• Likes being picked up
• Likes to play with string
• Lies on the pillow behind my head when I sleep
• Likes to paw at food on my plate but not eat it

Basic characteristics of Grizabella:

• Small cat with loud purrs and rusty-door meows; very talkative
• Enjoys rolling around on the floor
• Instantly flees when a new person arrives
• Hates being picked up
• Likes to play with laser pointers
• Sits right on top of me when I sleep
• Loves bacon and cheese

So yeah, opposite in a lot of ways.

I have a small white cat named Seven (a mispronunciation of Sven)

To actually describe Eddie: Big black and white kitty. White socks. Deep, deeeeep meow. Silent purr. Prone to random biting two seconds after buddying up with you. Likes to be squished. Likes to be carried. Refuses to sit on laps.

Big, grumpy weirdo.

Dusty:

• averageish size gray mackerel tabby
• very kittenish face (round cheeks, big round eyes, small nose)
• LOUD purrs.
• kittenish mew (kinda high pitched, sometimes small, sometimes very loud but still high pitched)
• likes being picked up and snuggled, this will get her purring immediately
• loves her ears being touched/played with/scratched, this will also bring on the purrs
• loves chin scritches
• will tolerate tummy rubs
• likes to curl up on my cable box, on my bed, or by the space heaters
• loves boxes
• loves those cardboard scratch pad things
• loves to chase toy mice and crinkle balls
• still bites my ankle sometimes
• has taken to sitting in my bathroom and staring at the toilet sometimes, I do not know why.

Oh Seven loves his ears being scratched and will occasionally move my hand accordingly. Also bites ankles he's still young granted (he's 3).

Dusty is four and a half.

I can't believe she is already four and a half, it seems like yesterday she was a teeny ball of floof I could hold in one hand.

While we're describing our various cats, I'll tell you all about one cat who isn't mine, but is still great.

Curtis, the mouser at the farm shop.

• Smallish, skinny brown tabby
• Very tip of tail is permanently held crooked due to a car accident when he was young
• Very loud purr which he will launch into as soon as you start patting
• Loves head pats and chin scritches
• Has known me since he was a kitten, so will rush up meowing whenever he sees me

Awww, he sounds like a sweetie. (I don't think the mice would agree, but they wouldn't agree on Dusty being sweet either.)

Today I introduce Bear, the other mouser at the farm shop.

• Little white female
• Fluffy
• Loves to nap in the sun in a patch of dirt, leaving her permanently looking a little scruffy.
• Friendly, but nips when excited
• Eyes nearly always almost shut

I have no other cats to introduce, but Dusty has been super snuggly and purry lately.

Odd question: What's the sound you make to call a cat to you? I've always gone "pusspusspuss" but I have been informed in some places that will get you funny looks...

I just kind of hold my fingers out and make a clicking sound with my tongue, or say "kittykittykittykitty"

Unless I know the cat's name, so if I'm calling my cat I say "Dustydustydustydusty"

For Eddie I go "Eddie Eddie puss puss!"

My friend has a cat called "Kitty C'mere" because that's how they kept calling her. So for actual naming purposes she's called Kiki.

She's a smallish tortoiseshell cat. She's cute but fairly aloof.

I keep calling cats I talk about small, but I think that's actually just because Eddie is a big boy and he makes most cats look small by comparison...

Makes sense.

My dad's cat is tiny so he seems to think most other cats are large; meanwhile someone I know has a huge cat and thinks mine is tiny.

Mine is just a pretty average sized cat.

I love cats but my mum is allergic :( I will probably get one when I'm older though

Crazy? Cat? People?

I have no cat as of now, and have no particular preference for said species, however for reasons unfathomable to my limited mind, these small cute graceful predators seem to consider me their kind of human. And they can’t eat me, as of yet.

And I’m not the sanest man around… Close enough then.

And kitties tend to like me too, I think they can sense that I love them.

Same with me. I find cats often just walk up to me and rub themselves on me.

I love when they do that, it's very cute.

I heard it's them rubbing their scent on you, claiming you as 'their' property/territory. It is cute nonetheless.
