Judging by the comments, the Archie fans aren't too happy. Some of them sound like the 1 Million moms to be frank.
Al Hartley is spinning in his grave.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."From what I've seen, it's one part normal Adaptation Decay criers and another part people turned off by the focus on homosexuality.

Boo hoo. The best Archie comic in the last decade was Afterlife with Archie. If this is anything at all like that, it should be awesome.
They should adapt the one where Punisher guest stars.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!thats not archie vs predator.
One Million Moms? Oh, I've even heard of those idiots over here.
More like Fifty Thousand Moms And Associated Hangers On, and that's on their very best day.
I have no brief for this show, for or against. I'm just tickled that the above mentioned group are pissed at it (and they are, if you go online and search for this topic).
This sounds like a huge case of In Name Only. I don't care to watch it at all anyway as I'm not an Archie fan, plus sounds like standard CW teen drama fare, but given certain experiences I've had, I sympathize with those who are upset about this. While I'm all good with reinventing what needs to be, a good adaption expresses the spirit of the original and this sounds more like stupid fanfiction.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.Have you heard of modern Archie comics? This stuff isn't much different from what's happening now in those. What with them having an actual gay character.
The head of Archie Comics is one of the producers of the show.
So Archie Comics is signing off on everything on this show.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureActual gay character isn't what I'm commenting on nor do I see why someone being gay is relevant. I mean more whole having sex with a teacher while blackmailing them, rainbow parties, Veronica looks for some random fling, etc.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.I just hope this is the universe where Betty and Veronica admit they want each other just as much as they want Archie.
I was disturbed by the description of Jughead as a "heartthrob". He's classically a "woman-hater", more modernly recast as an asexual.
Trump delenda estyeah jughead should only be non sexual not a hearthrob.
This sounds interesting I'll definitely give it a chance. I haven't read many Archie comics recently, but I have a stack of 1990's ones + a few from the mid 2000's in my cupboard (which I got given) which I really liked reading when I was younger.
Despite the darker nature it should be a fun nostalgia trip.
I have very mixed feelings about this. On one hand it has Aguirre-Sacasa, who is a great writer and behind both Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. On the other hand, it's on The CW and produced by Greg Berlanti, who has backed nothing but crap shows his entire career. Also the cast looks absolutely atrocious. They're obviously based on the reboot, which has a good story but awful character designs.
As a huge fan of Archie, I will hope for the best but expect the worst.
My god both actresses are remarkably beautiful. Color me shocked. Also, they made Jughead not Asexual? RUINED FOREVER!
Riverdale is premiering midseason, not in the Fall. Also: http://goo.gl/9jKXC8 This promo art is very atmospheric. I like it. I don't normally involve myself into the Archie franchise (I think my first real introduction was a rerun of Archie's Weird Mysteries when I was really young), but looking up the pilot script and grabbing a copy of the FCBD comic has gotten me very interested.

@Gozer: Speak for yourself. I love both The Flash and Supergirl.
The trailer for this leaked on Youtube
So, I read the synopsis of the show on the Mary Sue and...well it seems like it's trying to be Twin Peaks.
What I'm wondering is if this show will include the whole Archieverse. Josie and the gang wouldn't be so hard to fit in, but wouldn't it be awesome and hilarious to see Wendy or Casper somewhere down the line?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.
Making a thread about this to talk about the leaked pilot script. Beware of spoilers for the show of course.

From what I've read of the leaked Pilot script, the show kinda sounds amazing. It seems like both a modernization of the Archie comics and an examination of its tropes.
