Yep, some of them certainly. I don't why exactly. Maybe it's because it's so cathartic.

Anyway, that being the case, let's move on to the next batch. Since there's only one 8PM slot novela left that I have seen and not talked about yet, I will be also talking about from the 7PM slot. Which I realized have not watched many of thosein recent years, so this is a relatively old one.

Paraiso Tropical - The main love story is between Daniel, who is the intended heir to a powerful commercial despite only being the son of an employee at the group's CEO's house and Paula, a sweet girl that he met while on a business trip. Opposing are Olavo, a powerful and ambitious executive from the same group who will do everything in his power to prevent a mere employee's son from taking control over it and later on, Paula's Evil Twin.

Beleza Pura - Guilherme is a brilliant aeronautic engineer who has designed a new model of helicopter called Carcará. Before one such chopter is flown on the way to an expedition to the Amazonian rain forest, however, it was sabotaged by a jealous co-worker who had been romantically rejected by him. As such, the helicopter ended malfunctioning and crashing on the forest.

Joana is a woman that grew up in an orphanage. She had finally managed to save enough money by working as a doctor to hire an investigato to find her birth mother. However, her mother, a woman called Sonia, was one of the presumed vitims of the helicopter's crash.

Joana ends up meeting Guilherme when she finds out that her two younger siblings are under his care. With him feeling guilty over the accideny, he decides to adopt the children and fulfill Sonia's dream to open a beauty clinic, all the while trying to hide from Joana that he was the one who designed the helicopter that killed her mother.

Did I ever tell you a Brazilian Novela helped me ace an exam? I was stunted with a question about how "Television could be used to influence politics" and then I remembered that a Russian politician used the novela Tropicaliente to ensure his voters would stay home instead of travelling. I put that and I got full marks LOL.

Can you tell me about that novela if you can please?

Really!? That's just awesome![awesome] But sorry, haven't seen it. Apparently it's from the late 90's. I don't know if there ever was a re-run on Globo, but there is this channel on cable tv called Viva, which focus precisely on re-running old stuff, and apparently there was a re-run of it there last year. But didn't see it.

But, could tell me more about this situation with the Russian politician using it in such a manner? What was he using it to warn against, exactly?

I dunno more than that. He just wanted his voters to stay home and vote LOL.

I wish I could have seen the Helicopter Novela. Back when I was in Foz do Iguazu I rode one for the first and last time. I HATE HELICOPTERS LOL. But still that Novela sounded the most interesting to me.

Yeah, I tried googling it, but the only thing that came up that matched didn't elaborate on it much. I guess we will never know ... tongue

Well, I have never been on one, but they generally sound like they are more scary to ride than planes, so I get what you are saying. But yeah, the novela was indeed awesome!tongue

In any case, while I have technically watching Globo novelas from as early as 2006, it seems that I have missed a lot of them in recent years. I don't I have any more 7, 8 or 9PM novelas to talk about and I don't think I have watched that much 6PM slot novelas either. But here is one I definitely remember. Concidentally, it is from 2006! Though I have to admit that since it is from so long ago, I did have to look up some details in order to properly remember them.

O Profeta - It is the story of a young man called Marcos it was set in the 50's. The main premise is that he has the gift of seeing the future, hence the title, He becomes in love with Sonia, who at the start of the novela is engaged to another guy and later on ends falling in the claws of the main villain. With the help of two villainess, the later hatches a scheme to separate the couple. Essentially, the villainess Sabine gets Marcos to open a business where he would make predictions. And while he iniatilly asserts that he would give consults to just about anyone, she prevents anyone who can pay for it from seeing him. And thus he ends up falling in greed and losing touch with the rightous path and therefore his gift, though he of course later manages to recover and earn his destined love.

I read this artcile on Wired that says Globo has never given Netflix access to any of its shows...and its been 5 years since...I dunno, since it came to Brazil? I really dont know. But I really hope they do one day. I WANT TO SEE TERRA NOSTRA AND AMAR A VIDA AGAIN LOL.

Huh ... That's a very interesting article![awesome] But yeah, I hope that someday they will too, even if I kinda understand why they aren't doing right now. I LOVE to re-watch some novelas and watch even older ones for the first time.

Honestly, it is about time that people realized that the New Media is not Evil and is not completely destroy the Old Media. Haven't we been through this enough with things like cinema and TV, cinema, TV and VHS, TV and DVD etc, for them to realize that yet?tongue

But anyway, any other novela that you remember you like to discuss right now? I'm stumped on that department right now ...

OK, so about that novela that talk about in our messages, Beto Rockfeller ... After having both the Portuguese and English articles ... I'm not sure if I have all that much to add, actually. The Portuguese article may be a bit longer, but even stubby English covers a lot of important points, even if more briefly, that are in the former as well, such as: That it was the first to include characters speaking in coloquial languague, thr first to festure actors improvising lines instead of stricly following the script all the time, the first to feature an anti-hero main character etc

Some new information would that it was the first to include shots filmed from a helicopter and also to feature merchandising. It seems that due to issues with the production, that it include a lot of filler as well.

The article also expanded a little bit on the plot as well. The name of the novela comes from the fact that the way Beto cons his way into high society was by impersonation a distant relative of the megarich American Rockfeller family. A huge deal of the plot was about him trying to avoid being discovered.

There was also a Betty and Veronica situation where he was attracted both to a girl fromthe high society, who later came to suspect about his true identity and also to a girk from his humble neighboorhood.

WOW! That sure is a lot more information, I wonder if they improvised on Amor a Vida too. I would love to see what was improvised. I loved the MARICA fight between Eron and Niko. That was so funny. Marica is such a terrible word but its really funny when said.

Oh, hey, It has been a long time since we posted here, huh? Which is really my fault, since I forgot that you had posted already a long time ago.tongue

But yeah, I hope that they get over that flop and we get back on track with Globo novelas soon, for your sake.

I bet there are thousands of Globo fans in Paraguay. There are a total of below 2 million TV's in Paraguay and 500K watch Globo novelas. I hope we do get to see the new Globo stuff.

BTW have you seen Velho Chico? I heard its terrific. AND its a multigenerational epic. Those are always good. And I cant wait for Regra do Jogo lol.

Well, with those kind of numbers, I think that there should be no problem with them coming back eventually or at least I hope so.

I have seen some of it, though not often. I was rather busy until recently, with college and all, but I'm on a break now. But from what I have seen, it does seem great, yes.

I hope La Esclava Blanca will end soon, It just begun sure, but I want to see Regra Do Jogo.

BTW I saw that Rede Record aired Biblical Novelas. I guess they are kind of nice but I prefer Globo novelas. LOL.

Also I love Leo's theme from O Clone.

I also hope that you succeed in your efforts and studies.

Yeah, I hope so too, for your sake.

Well, Record is associated with a pretty major evangelical church, so that's to be expected.

And don't worry, I did rather well and the semester is over already, so I can rest for now.

Yeah, but I heard their novelas are pretty damn well made AND they are massively popular. Not as much as Globo but still. They ARE outpacing Globo in Argentina though.

LOL I dont get why Bruno ALWAYS WITHOUT FAIL grabbed Paloma to prevent her from beating the tar out of the villains, both Felix and Aline. Even he tried to Save Aline when Cesar tried to kill her. He is such a pacifist, lol.

Yeah, I suppose that's true enough. They are the only channel on Brazilian open tv capable of really competing with Globo on an even level. But yeah, as good as those may be, I prefer Globo novelas as well.

And yeah, that did keep just happening, didn't it? Guess the guy really doesn't like conflict all that much, even when the person almost getting beating up has been revealed as outrighy evil. He really is such a nice guy, huh?

Aline DID get beat up, also I saw the Brazilian Original of Aline's beating, and its amazing how many loanwords we share...that got removed from the dub. LOL. Like Burra, that's a word that's used a lot in Paraguay and Argentina. But since the dub must be neutral. (That's a thing with dubs made in Latin America, they must have ZERO accents and ZERO localisms or local slang from any country, especially those in Mexico)

I wonder if Paola really did hit Vanessa. She was MAD.

Yeah, I know, but it sure wasn't from lack of trying on Bruno to prevent it, I can tell you that much.

Huh, that's strange. I wonder if we ever got affected by that as well ...

I don't know, I mean, that scene was well done and all, so it's a possibility. Probably not hit to that extent though

So sorry to interrupt, but this entire thread is just pages of you two geeking out over Brazilian soap operas, and it's kinda adorable. It's literally just the two of you.

[up] And your avatar looks like she's making a high pitched"EEEEEE!" sound, so I imagine her on her couch, clutching a pillow, making that sound while kicking her feet in the air as a plot twist happens or something.

This shit is cuter than two kittens trying to fit into the same slipper.

Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.

@Aegis: Still ocasionally, I'm afraid. As much as I love Globo novellas, there a number of other programs that I usually end watching with my family at the same time as it hours.

@Nman: No need to say sorry for it. As much as I love Aegis' company, and I do love it a lot, it tends to feel sort of lonely sometimes with just the two of us here, so it's nice to have someone else show up here after all. And thank you. What can I say? I just love this stuff and I was really glad to find someone like Aegis to discuss it with this much.
