At this point this little habit of wasting pages is feeling a little overwhelming, specially after the ninety years in the dark, although I liked the overall context with both Minervas.

The Morrigan's death, although expected, felt rather weak for me. Her final act was supposed to mean Redemption Equals Death but it was too rushed to be felt, and the death shock was already Baph's.

Also, Lucifer, Inanna and Tara are standing in the for audience and their little treatment is surely a And I Must Scream case.

Count the number of pages in this last issue. Guess what: You still got the same number of drawn pages as any other issue. They didn't waste a single page. Those black pages were extra pages included for free.

Yeah, I know. In the last Writer's Notes, Kieron mentioned these pages were free. With "wasted" I mean the very fact that these are extras. They add literally nothing to the story itself. I got that it was meant to give us the exact feeling Minerva felt, but since it was already used as a plot device, it felt little more than nuisance.

Well, it was just one of those artistic flourishes, really.

Also, I was rereading some of the earlier chapters and I noticed how Baal describing what god he is to Cassandra and Laura comes off like a sort of Suspiciously Specific Denial, which now seems like a great bit of foreshadowing.

Wicked + Divine 1373: If serial murder every 90 years isn't bad enough, now Ananke is responsible for the bubonic plague. Also Lucifer 1373 is a real bummer.

It comes as no surprise but Ananke up to no good. None good. She's been feeding Baal a load of bull to trick him into killing people so she can create a zombie apocalypse for reasons.

I’m curious what her endgame here is. What’s in this for her? Do we know?

Also, Laura’s great.

I think I need to go reread the Ananke origins issue because I have no clue. And maybe the medieval Lucifer issue.

and the various different era specials become a sort of required reading after all when not-Frankenstein turns out to be the battery for the Great Darkness. All just another one of Ananke’s ruses to manipulate the pantheon. The specifics of the Ananke/Minerva thing are explained and then anyone who needed that explanation is secondhand mocked. And Wodan being a shithead has screwed over Laura one last time.

Surprised that Woden went down this early - he’s not gonna be there for the finale. I suppose it’s a fitting anticlimax for him, though a small part of me is gonna kind of miss the asshole. Not THAT much, though.

Penultimate issue. Hell of a gap between issues.

The gods renounce their godhood which depowers Ananke Minerva for Reasons. I think I’ve lost the track and need to do some rereads. In a broad sense they just refuse to play her game anymore. Valentine ex Baal does one more child murder. And everybody gets arrested for the everything that’s been going on. And Laura and ex Lucifer are maybe girlfriends now. It’s hard to say what with the arrested forever.

Next time is the finale.

I read the first book of this, and I cannot decide if I liked it or thought it was a half-baked American Gods knockoff written by an old dude trying to sound young and hip.

Well, Gillen if nothing else finds youth culture to be very interesting and worth exploring, if this and Young Avengers is anything to go by.

And I've already decided that even though I'm nearly 25, I have no real right to judge about people write people my age when honestly I myself don't have the best grip on that.

I'm sure Gillen would say it can be both.

But it does get better, for the record. I mean, I loved it from the start, but just the same, it continues to get better as it goes on.
