Brainscratch Commentaries

I haven't found a topic about this game commentary group, so I decided to make one.

What is your favorite playthrough of theirs? Mine right now would be either the Various Versus vids, or the classic Sonic playthroughs.

Was that really necessary?

I really enjoyed the Sonic Genesis(the awful GBA port) playthrough.

Agreed...I've seen bits and pieces of Game Grumps and I love BSC

I really enjoyed that one too, I also enjoy all their Mega Man playthroughs (Although in 3, we can't forget Ryan grinding for energy for an entire part)

I love most of their commentaries that I've seen, though I really couldn't stand the Sonic 3 and Knuckles one. The playthrough was awful, and that guest they had in it was just obnoxious. (They had the same guy in the Sonic Colors and Wreck It Ralph commentaries as well, and though he was a little better in WIR, I couldn't stand him in the Sonic Colors one, to the point where I couldn't even watch more than the first one or two videos.)

I prefer SGB myself. Mostly because aside from Johnny I find most of the Brainscratch cast to be dull, honestly.

Elliot and Matt are more entertaining to me.

I really couldn't get into there Sonic Adventure DX commentary.Lewis bitching about the tiniest details was getting on my last nerve.I don't even hate Lewis that much.

My personal ranking of the main BSC crew.

I have to agree.I do enjoy Brainscratch,but besides Johnny,the rest of the crew can be annoying.Elliot is hilarious(esp. when he fucks up.The entirety of the Crash 3 playthrough is a good example.) as well as Matt(but his sheer enjoyment of abusing Chaos in SA 2 got a little too disturbing and the whole "raging clue" running gag in Sly 2 gets annoying).

Doesn't help that a lot of their guest commentators(like Chuggaconroy,Gareth,Masae,and Clement) can be much more entertaining than the others(besides Johnny)

My ranking is:

1. Johnny

2. Ryan

3. Lewis

4. Ted

Ted can get a bit annoying, usually if the game that's being played has Batman...I don't like his reasoning for disliking Batman (Just because most superheroes are lighthearted and fight robots and aliens doesn't mean all of them have to be light or fight robots/aliens), plus his bitching at Johnny for not getting weapon energy in Wily Wars when John didn't need the energy.

I put Ryan as my number two as I find him very informative...albeit a bit biased. Lewis is funny, though. I almost considered having him and Ryan tied for second place.

I honestly find Ryan to be really boring at times.Mostly because of his dull sounding voice.

But I do agree with Ted being all bitchy about Bats and DC.Its why I couldn't get into the Injustice playthrough as well as why I don't have plans to watch the Arkham playthroughs.

Asylum actually doesn't have Ted in it. He didn't "officially" become a full on member until when they did FFVI, almost a year after they did the Asylum playthrough.

I liked the Injustice playthrough just fine, but goddamn Ted needs to let go of his Marvel bias and look into with an open mind.

I enjoyed their Batman The Animated Series commentaries.

I gotta say,really getting annoyed with Ted in the Sonic Boom playthrough so far.I get that he doesn't hate the game as much as others,but he's seriously coming off as a contrarian and an ass(like when tries to excuse the game as "its bad because its a licensed game".In which Johnny responds with "not all licensed games are bad".So Ted asks them to name a few good ones.They do and Ted says they're exceptions,contradicting himself which even Gareth points out).

A bit of a new topic: what do you guys think of N Tom 64 in the Majora's Mask commentary? As someone who doesn't watch HFC and thus has never really heard him before, I'm actually quite enjoying his commentary. I think he and Johnny work very well together. I will also say he's miles more entertaining than Ryan and Lewis for the most part.

He and HFC are both pretty swell. Johnny, Ryan, and Lewis have also joined Tom for the Super Mario Galaxy commentary over at HFC.

The guys are going to have to take a little break due to a manual copyright strike.

The strike? On Catherine part 3. Why? Because of a short film which has no relation to the game or Atlus.

Fuck Youtube's copyright system.

The ten year video was pretty sweet. It's nice to see the group grow closer over the years and for a group of guys that normally rib on each other a lot and don't get very sappy, all admit they've had a great time over the years.
