Good lord, it was such a mistake to read today's issue in my school library. I could barely keep myself from laughing out loud! Holy crap!
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Oh my god that Star Wars gag in the Howard crossover. I'm actually dead now.
So anyone still reading and subscribed here, what did you think of Erica's last issue?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat was hilarious and weirdly sweet? Especially at the end, when Nancy and Doreen realize they won't be able to remember their time in hypertime. Also I was highly amused at how much stuff they "borrowed" from Tony. And it was really cool that Doreen and Nancy got to spend a lifetime together, even if they won't remember it now.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.I don't know that it was an intentional homage but it put me in mind of the last episode of Futurama
It was very sweet. Since this was Erica's last issue I wonder if this story was a way for her to do a story she really wanted to do but couldn't except through a high concept adventure
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat seems pretty likely, which would be a really sweet parting gift for Erica if that's the case.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself. The next arc was originally solicited as being drawn by Henderson, so I suspect she simply chose a good issue to go out on.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The series is ending in an issue, and I think this was a really good way for it to go out on. It also makes me realize that I like this Kraven a lot more than the one in Hunted, if we're being totally honest.
I added a subpage for both of the Squirrel Girl Novels, if anyone wants to help flesh that out.
Here’s what I have so far:
A series of middle grade books written By Shannon Hale and Dean Hale, based on Ryan North’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. The books follow Doreen Green, (Age Fourteen) an optimistic, energetic, and nutty fourteen year old, who just so happens to have a squirrel tail.
Adaptation Distillation: Set in an Alternate Universe mostly based off 616 while incorporating certain elements from the MCU
Alternate Continuity: Ryan North, the writer of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl book, has said that the books take place in an Alternate Continuity, heavily inspired by, but not identical to his comic
Badass Adorable: Squirrel Girl, as usual
Clark Kenting: Naturally, most people don't recognize Doreen when her tail is showing.
Footnote Fever: Squirrel Girl keeps a running commentary throughout in footnotes
Long List: both books have two whole pages of listing of various squirrel names.
Mythology Gag: Many
Non-Human Sidekick: Tippy-Toe of course
Reading Lips: Portrayed very realistically with Ana Sofia Arcos Romero
- she uses a combination of Lip Reading, a Hearing Aid and ASL
Signed Language: although neither are fluent, Anna Sophia and Doreen sometimes use ASL to supplement lip reading
Switching P.O.V.: the chapters switch between the perspectives of Doreen, her friend Ana Sofia Arcos Romero, and Tippy Toe
Wake Up, Go to School, Save the World (or Shady Oaks New Jersey at least): Doreen has to deal with a new school, new friends, and saving her town from the local supervillains

Well, there goes one of my favorite comics. It ended on a high note, if a bit anticlimactic. Not sure what Kraven's deal is, but hope it leads to something.

Likely, it was a way of lining up his appearance here with his death in ASM.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I'm gonna miss this comic so much.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.I mean all the had to do was say the usg kraven was a good clone who the new one didnt kill
Doesn't really have the same emotional weight if it's not the same guy.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. No have it been a good clone the whole time.
All the meta stuff about how the book was ending and how the characters would be different handled by a different creative team but you could always go back and read this series was exceptionally unsubtly on the nose. And still incredibly poignant
Forever liveblogging the AvengersDamn, I loved the ending. Galactus and Doreen sitting on the moon. Doreen deciding to live without a secret identity — and with the way she was holding Nancy on the last page, probably had a Relationship Upgrade, too.
In a way, the last issue also reminded me of The Good Place. Because Doreen admitted that everyone deserved a chance, even supervillains, even supervillains who hated her guts. Because one day, they might not. The book was always about that, about trying to see the good in everyone — from Brain Drain having his circuits fixed and becoming a friend to Ultron becoming a tree to even Galactus showing his heroic side.
And damn, I'm going to miss it.
I wonder, since I know the trades sold really well in the Scholastic market, if Marvel is going to try and get another writer to write another Squirrel Girl series? Perhaps the same writers as the books?
the final not tweets at the end certainly hinted that with nancy saying they would face the future together with a heart at the end
Yeah. I think they were just explicit enough for people to understand without outright stating it. Like the ending to Legend of Korra.
Another article and full conversation with Ryan North.
And a great Twitter thread by Shannon Hale, who is the co-author of those Squirrel Girl books.
Also, we almost got an Unbeatable Squirrel Girl/Unstoppable Wasp crossover. Damn you, Marvel, for cancelling the Wasp's books so soon.

It is perhaps something like this.
