It may be a kid's book but it pulls the same trick that Rowling pulled with Harry Potter in that it isn't JUST a kid's book. Probably better, actually, in how it does it. I hope the sequel is just as good.

The initial draft of the sequel it is complete!

However there is still on official confirmation of a publication date just yet.

Interesting point he let slip in the first post though... The Inscrutable Machine series is now planned as a five part series.

YAY!grin

Nice I read somewhere it was planned to be a trilogy. And I was a little worried that we would only end up with two books of TIM as villains.

Also my university library just got in a copy of this after my request. Time to badger my friends into reading it!

I hope it comes out in time for Christmas, like he thought. Is there any word on that movie that was rumored to be in talks?

[up] I've heard nothing, but that means nothing. The process if fairly opaque at this point in production.

According to his AMA on Reddit, he doesn't want Disney anywhere near his work.

Of course, Disney's been doing pretty well with superhero movies recently, but I still respect his desire to keep control of his own work.

I personally think that the book would be a better fit at Warner Brothers. They have form what with the Potterverse films and all, and I have yet to see anyone seriously criticize their casting of the main roles in those.

My one wish if this is made into a movie is for the setting to retain the "game-like" motivations that are implied to be the main reasons for most of the villains and heroes. Also I hope they keep in the mentions of Mourning Dove.

I finally got my physical copy of this a little while ago so I decided to re-re-read it. :)

Overall I'm mostly ambivalent towards the romance in this series. I mean I really like how out of the way the interactions between Penny and Rayare. But after noticing certain quotes in the book I really get why some people on the YMMV page think Claire / Penny could be a thing.

She leaned in, resting her forehead against mine, our glasses clinking together. Very softly, she said, "Then let me worry if it's right or wrong. Do this for me. Please?"

As the very least I do think the Minx would be ecstatic at how good Claire is at manipulating people at her age.

Update on the status of the sequel. Editing should start soon, and it's probably gonna end up called "Please Don't Tell My Parents I Blew Up The Moon" for series recognition purposes. He also mentions that they've edited the first book. I said multiple times he needed an editor; apparently someone agreed with me, because he got one. Mostly just the minor typos and word choice issues here and there, but it seems he's going to add more explanation for why the Audit is completely blind to what's happening right under her nose, as well as Claire's shapeshifting.

The shape-shifting power thing is nice. I assumed it was some sort of glamour.

It also seems I din't pick the best time to purchase a physical copy. I hope the Kindle edition updates though so I can read the extra extrapolation on the explanation for the Audit's ignorance.

Edit: According to the author in the comments the Kindle Edition should update.

And the publication is aimed for Christmas! I know what I'm buying this year

Zounds! An update!

Short version: First round editing is done, aiming for a December 31st release date but that may not be possible. It depends on how long the proofreading part takes.

I feel bad for him getting so overwhelmed so suddenly, but I suppose that's the price of success. Still, if he needs extra time, I think everyone's willing to be patient.

Yeah. I would like them to get it right.

edit.

It seems like the edits to the first book won't come out until the second one has been done and dusted. Just in case there's been any dubiety.

Anyway, on to the additions:

I stared. I was being treated to what should have been a close-up of Claire as she and Gabriel chatted, but it wasn’t. Who was this girl? Claire didn’t have a dimple. I’d been seeing Claire’s smile most of our lives, and she didn’t.

Or did she, with her power turned up high? What exactly did she look like then? All I could remember were eyes and a mouth, those oh-so-serious expressions she was giving Gabriel.

My stupid mouth acted on automatic. “She almost looks like Claire.”

Dad just chuckled. “She does, doesn't she? I think it was a half-hearted attempt to frame Claire. The name is deliberate, and the costume is a reference to her power. I say 'half-hearted', because if E-Claire were really trying she would hide her face. The first words out of your mother's mouth were 'Her cheekbones are wrong', and her body language was wrong in the first video. She can't even claim to be Claire in makeup.”

Claire Lutra, you little vixen. You knew all along your secret identity was completely safe. Your Mom must have known as well. And if E-Claire couldn't possibly be Claire, then her teammates couldn't be me and Ray. You devious shape-changing vixen, Claire. You'd covered us all.

So that's one explanation down.

This does lend a lot more credence to the reason her parents haven't figured anything out yet. Also Day 1 purchase for me.

From what the author has said about Remmy and the weird stuff in book two, I hope the sequel ends up focusing more outside the main characters's group.

Pre-ordered. Would be rude not to, given that I nearly read the pixels off of my handy's Kindle app version of the first book. tongue

I'll most likely do the same thing I did for the first and buy the ebook then get the physical copy later in the year as a gift from someone.
