Best trades that I have read lately:
- Hawkeye vol 1: My Life as a Weapon
- Captain Marvel vol 2: Down
- Saga vol 1 and vol 2
- Avengers Assemble: Science Bros
- Avengers: Absolute Vision vol 1
And those would just be the recent trades that I have considered out-of-this-world good.
1. Put on hold! :) 2. Put on hold! :) 3. Who's the author? I'm having a wee bit of trouble finding it. 4. Can't put it on hold. Putting it on a list of books to read. 5. Can't find it. Are the issues in a different volume?
Saga is by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.
Absolute Vision is probably just not offered by the library. The author is Roger Stern (mostly), and in fact its material is not collected elsewhere at the moment. It's some old-school 80's Avengers stuff, just thought I'd recommend it since the trade was recent.
Saga Vol. 1 is on hold, the second one is unavailable. I've found other Roger Stern Avengers books, but not that one.
EDIT: Oh, well. I'll put some other books by him on hold.

Journey Into Mystery by Kathryn Immonen. Especially the first volume.
Actually, if you can, check out Kieron Gillen's Journey Into Mystery, too. The whole thing.
While I'm on the topic of Kieron Gillen, his Young Avengers run was fantastic, worth checking out. And both volumes of Phonogram are great.
Edit: Oh, I almost forgot. The six volumes of Scott Pilgrim, by Brian Lee O'Malley. Read them. Read them all.

X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Argh, how did I forget Gillen Young Avengers.
(Just got my own copy of Phonogram today, actually. Will give that a read soon.)
Some of those aren't available, but I'm trying my best.
Kingdom Come if you haven't read it already.
How could I forget? Putting it on hold! :)
EDIT: Parts 1/2 of the JSA version are on hold, along with the original. I may have accidentally put the prose version on hold, but, oh well.

Seconding Kingdom Come.
Also get The Killing Joke I will fight tooth and nail and say that it is the best Batman story ever written
Oh really when?Done! Also, I remembered an episode of Atop The Fourth Wall that I watched. The Technis Imperative is now on hold! :)
Just remembered something, if you do get The Killing Joke make doubly sure it's the 20th anniversary edition.
The art is indescribably better in that one, just trust me
Oh really when?i highly recommend All-Star Superman.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.I'm not sure if it is. I am sorry.
EDIT: The Superman tale has been put on hold.

Seconding All Star Superman
Oh really when?Older stuff that I would recommend...most of this is obscure or out of print, so I am more hesitant.
- Demon Knights: Seven Against the Dark (OK, this one's a strong rec and a recent print)
- The Incredible Hercules: Love and War
- The Incredible Hercules: The Mighty Thorcules
- Blue Beetle: Reach for the Stars
- Blue Beetle: Endgame
- Wonder Woman: The Circle
- Secret Six: Unhinged
- Dungeons and Dragons: Shadowplague
- Dungeons and Dragons: First Encounters
- Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers
I actually already put the Secret Six on hold. TIME FOR THE OTHERS! Thanks for the help, everyone! I now have thirty-five Mel Cat items on hold.
EDIT: I have officially reached my limit for number of Mel Cat items on hold. Poop. I will put this on my list of things to read. EDIT 2: You can still recommend items, if you want to.

To go a little outside those, I recommend The Life and Times of Scrooge Mc Duck, a biography of the Disney Comics character, and anything from the EC Library collection (horror, crime, science fiction, all the good stuff.)
I read that. I liked it.
So, just figured I'd throw in a little more, since I've basically recommended every prize of my comic collection in this thread...
- Astro City: Life in the Big City
- Astro City: Confession
- Astro City: Local Heroes
- Atomic Robo and Other Strangeness
- Atomic Robo and the Shadow from Beyond Time
- Atomic Robo and the Ghost of Station X
- Hellboy: The Chained Coffin and Other Stories
- Thunderbolts Classic volume 2 by Kurt Busiek
These are from series that I'd recommend in a heartbeat in full (except Hellboy, I'm pretty lukewarm on that series), but I figured I'd give the cherry-picked best volumes a nod in this thread - especially since each can be read in isolation without any problem.
Full series that I would recommend:
- She-Hulk by Dan Slott (is getting a brand-new printing, even, as a two-volume set)
- Ex Machina by Brian K. Vaughan (10 volumes)
- Avengers Assemble by Kurt Busiek (5 volumes - volumes 1 and 2 are the best of the lot by a wide margin, though)
- Nextwave: Agents of HATE by Warren Ellis (either 1 volume or 2, depending on which printing)
- Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye by James Roberts (5 volumes so far, which comprise a complete "season")

Thanks!
I'm seconding anything Atomic Robo
Oh really when?Okay. I will use TV Tropes to research it.
Seconding. IDW's Dungeons and Dragons series was a fantastic and fun book that was unjustly cancelled "put on indefinite hiatus" after less than 20 issues. Read it.
Hello, my friends! Firstly, I checked and this has not been made. Secondly, I love to read. I will read anything, but I have recently put a batch of comic items on inter-library loan. But, I'm not done! Can you recommend any good comics? (Comic collections, because I can't put individual ones on hold. Ex: Superior Spider-Man Vol. 1) You can also discuss it for yourselves. Have an excellent day!
