So I fought a Lair Boss while replaying chapter 1 to visit more Hero Shrines. I visited the Sprawl first, so the Librarian was it. Since my whole party had no real issue hitting the back rows he was a pushover. He only managed to burn up one stack of books before dying.

And then when I went to the Tangle I figured “screw it” and tackled the Lair Boss there too. The General was more tedious and not having a Jester for better Stress removal hurt, but he also went down.

And THEN I figured I might as well see the run through to the end and refought the Denial boss. If anything it was even easier than the first time. It helped that my Grave Robber and Highwayman got a lot of critical hits.

I should probably try Chapter 2 for real after I finish up Runaway’s Hero Shrine.

Btw…anyone think Bleed damage is a bit hard to inflict in this game? I don’t think any Hero specializes in it. By contrast we have a Burn Hero (Runaway) and two Heroes who specialize in Blight (Plague Doctor and Flagellant).

I like the Orphan Wolf Cub because he's a good boy

The Cub's boost is one of the better ones among the pets too. Though Shambler Spawn's arguably the best one.

Welp, got my first party wipe against the Seething Sigh.

The run was going pretty well too — I had taken out three Lair bosses on the way. Unfortunately, Seething Sigh kept applying Blind to my party, meaning I couldn't stop it from getting off Sundering Breaths.

Next time I'll prioritize Debuff Resistance.

Beat Seething Sigh. Party I used was Man at Arms, Highwayman, Plague Doctor, and Graverobber. Made sure to raise debuff resistance and brought a bunch of the item that cures Blind. I ended up killing both lungs before taking out the actual boss.

The Lair Boss I beat was the Harvest child, with the trophy being the one that gave 25 extra inventory slots. IMHO that is probably the most useful trophy.

Edit:

And that's Focused Fault down. Same as the above party but switched out Graverobber for Jester. Standard strategy applied: made sure all of the tokens were on Man at Arms so he could tank every attack.

It was a close call admittedly — even with the trophy from the Harvest child that boosted max health by 50%, Barristan still ended up at Death's Door.

Ravenous Reach down. I used my standard party of Man at Arms, Highwayman, Plague Doctor, and Jester. This one took one try, but it was a close call. I lost two party members in its last phase. But the Highwayman and Man at Arms pulled through.

Getting to the Ravenous Reach was the hard part. Due to all of the Oblivion Tears, I ended up fighting through three Lair Bosses to clear the Loathing. I ended up going through the Tangle twice too.

Oh, and the Trophy I used was the one from the Dreaming General that locks your party's positions.

In hindsight, a Leper would have been useful due to his skill that ignores Blocks.

Does anyone think they could help me scan the main DDII page for any remaining artifact tropes of people's thinly-veiled complaints about stuff from Early Access that isn't in the game any more? I think I got most of them but I want to be sure.

Bumping this thread because there is an announcement about an upcoming free update. The link goes to the Steam page for said announcement, but I've also listed the key points below:

  • The Collector will be returning to this game.
  • A new enemy known as the Gaunt Chirugeon will be added to the game. This monster was created by a fan of the game through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and it will provide unique awards when beaten.
  • New elite enemies will randomly appear in battles.
  • The devs also plan to update the Infernal Flame and the overall torch system, stating they want to provide additional flavor, identity, and strategy for players wanting more of a challenge.

The Gaunt Chirurgeon looks pretty cool as an undead enemy. With de-chibified art style of the sequel, I'm starting to think that any potential miniatures based on the newer art-style might look even better. The current minis for the board-game are excellent renditions of the sprites into 3D, though with slightly different proportions they would work well even outside of the DD-context.

I was literally praying that they added a Gaunt boss, since they're the only enemy group without one. I'm really hoping that's what the Chirurgeon is.

Changes coming up in September:

  • Death's Door will be changed to a token system. So, the more basic enemies that have Death's Door will resist one deathblow and then be guaranteed to die to the next lethal attack.
  • You'll be able to choose your dead hero replacements at the Inn.
  • You'll be able to pay with a currency to change your heroes' path at the Inn.
  • Factions will be back in road fights to make them more variable.
  • And changes to Act 3's boss. No, nothing specific on it.

If the Crusader gets brought back, then that Corrupted Templar would seem like a good arch-enemy for them.

Death Blow Resistance for enemies has been changed into "Death Armor" tokens. You can also change hero paths at the inn and choose your fatality replacements.

DADDY REYNAULD CAME BACK FROM THE STORE!The Crusader is returned for II and it appears a new lady with a rapier, named the Duelist, will be joining the roster as well.

Nice to see the Crusader come back, and I'm curious to see what this new character can do.

I'm also looking forward to seeing if any new monsters will appear, though I suspect I probably will not look forward to actually fighting them.

Whenever a new character gets introduced, it's usually accompanied by new powerful monster(s) that are best handled with said character's kit.

Kind of like how the first game's Flagellant was released at the same time as the Crimson Court dlc, which featured a whole bunch of enemies vulnerable to Bleed.

The Crusader could be tied strongly to the undead army in the Tangle. The Fallen Templar in particular seems like he could be a corrupted former comrade of Reynald's.

Has the Duelist been confirmed to be female? They don't appear to have any sexual characteristics and I initially assumed Red Hook was adding their first nonbinary character to the cast before thinking maybe they were male?

[up]This is from the DLC's description on Steam.

The Duelist is a disciplined and deadly combatant who can tactically switch between Defensive and Aggressive stances. A formidable presence in any lineup, she is able to ignore enemy defenses, and strike back with Riposte. Her pursuit of perfection means she will demand the best of her team and command them to victory by wiping out cooldown times and providing both offensive and defensive buffs. The Duelist is able to move between ranks with ease, attacking from both the front and back ranks, dispatching her enemies with ruthless efficiency.
